    Basil spaghetti

Enjoyed my trip to the Bower! Stopped in for a late dinner after a long travel day. Was quickly seated. The ambiance is reminiscent of many other trendy contemporary American restaurants. Really loved the open kitchen concept. The food was decent, but not as exciting as I was hoping for. Tried the basil spaghetti, which was fresh and filling but might have benefitted from a little more seasoning and acid. Otherwise worth a try if you're in the area!

If I could give 3.5 stars, I would but rounding up to 4 for the great ambiance and staff! The vibe here is niiice.. cozy, stylish, and perfect for a catch-up or date night. Staff was attentive and super friendly throughout. Happy hour deals? Solid 5/5 -- great value and options. The old fashioned was yummy. As for the food though: mixed feelings. The arancini didn't quite hit the mark for me -- not crispy enough & cold (2.5), and the cacio e pepe was a bit underwhelming compared to very good ones I have had (3). But the truffle bread was a standout--very tasty, wish there was more red pepper so it wasn't so sweet but yumm(4)! It was all just decent food, nothing special or mouthwatering... too bland. Overall, food lands around a ~3.5 to me. Might return for drinks and apps, especially during happy hour.. but not in a rush tbh. Went with friends for Happy Hour - fantastic prices and options! Our server was very friendly and everything was delicious. We sat outside and it was beautiful. Plenty of shade.

The appetizers are a must have. The crispy cauliflower and the whipped feta are some of the best appetizers I've had ever. The chicken Parmesan and the other pasta dish were good but a little disappointing. I would suggest going to the Bauer with a large group so you can do more mixing match with the appetizers and drinks. They also run a fun happy hour so go check them out and they have good seating inside the main Hall as well as a larger back patio seating with an additional bar. Our waitress was so kind and made sure we were having a good time, she gave us some good recommendations on things to eat and made an amazing gin sour.

Beautiful spot on magazine! Great place for celebrations and gatherings. Food came out quickly and was coursed out well. We ordered a few small plates and mains to share and it was the perfect amount. Service was attentive, appreciated them checking in on our table and also making sure we had utensils to share all our dishes with. Food was packed with flavor and was well balanced. Our faves were probably the avocado panzanella and the pasta bolognese. Had high hopes for the pesto pasta but felt some flavor was still lacking. Nonetheless food was great overall! Good drink menu too! Looking forward to our next visit.

    Mood ring cocktail

The appetizers were AMAZING!! The entrees were okay. We got the avocado panzanella and the whipped feta and those were both to die for. For entree we got the basil spaghetti and the crawfish stuffed shells. Both were okay but not great. For drinks we got the crossing the line and the magazine margarita both were good. The mood ring drink was not. Too sweet. The vibes were great! Such a cute place! Would def recommend and go back!

Christmas cocktail, could have been a cuter glass
    Jamie B.

I have been here about 3 times and I am - sadly - never impressed with the food. I am impressed with the cocktails; those drinks are GOOD. The most recent time I dinned here was about 6 months ago during the holidays with all the Christmas decor up and had requested on the reservation to be seated near all the decor and the music. The hostess said there was no room over there but said they can still make Christmas cocktails for our group of 4. I was disappointed since I came all decked out in Christmas gear and was really looking for that ambience, but I settled for the festive cocktails. The cocktail I ordered was the Magazine Street Miracle - a tasty bourbon drink and it did in fact taste like the season. I enjoyed it a lot although I wished it came in a more Christmassy, fun glass. The apps we ordered was the pork belly and scallops. Now the waitress did warn us that the scallops were **VERY** small. And I really appreciated her being honest with us. Sure, enough when they came out --- WOW, it was ridiculously small. The presentation left a lot to be desired as well. But that pork belly was spot on - tasty. Then I ordered the green pest spaghetti - this did make up for the size of those 2 teeny tiny scallops, but I did not love the flavors. It was just ok for me. I think if I come back again, it will be just for a happy hour.

    Tuna Crudo

Service was great, but the food was a bit underwhelming overall. My husband had the skirt steak, which lacked flavor, and I ordered the Gulf shrimp with pepperoni oreganata. The shrimp were large, but the flavor and texture didn't quite work for me. That said, the tuna crudo was delicious and definitely the standout dish. I always feel a little bad being this honest, but hopefully this helps others decide what to order.

Best chicken Parm I've ever had. Basil spaghetti was more subtle than I wanted on the flavor, atmosphere is nice and the staff is great

I came for bar humbug. The bar was decorated so nice. It was super festive. The service was pretty good and the drinks were great. Everyone at the table enjoyed their drinks even the ones that rarely finish their drink. I had 2 appetizers. The truffle bread was ok. There was a sweetness to it that I didn't really care for. The lamb meatballs were really good.

Came to The Bower during a professional development conference. One of the well-known EHR companies hosted a HH for their customers. This was a nice way to be appreciated, not just for spending our hard earned money to ensure clients, business operations, and admin/logistics are handled accordingly, but also to simply recognize how hard mental health clinicians/providers work on a daily basis. I didn't get any pictures of the food that was served but there was a variety of finger foods. Charcuterie boards, hummus, and other dips, crackers, etc. We also indulged in cocktails/wine at the bar. The Bower is a beautiful restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Great location for date night, happy hour with friends/family, and solo dinners. Highly recommend stopping by and I will return when I'm in NOLA!

We preferred the gumbo, which was very flavorful. The jambalaya was a little dry for our preference and the rice and beans lacked flavor. My dad got the gator bites which were also really good! We also appreciated the options they had for vegetarians - my mom got the veggie burger and sweet potato fries and enjoyed both. She also had a shellfish allergy and they took great care regarding cross contamination.

As soon as they arrived, I picked one up and immediately thought, "Wow, this is incredibly light." Anyone who eats crabs regularly knows that's usually a bad sign. When I opened it, it was completely hollow inside--nothing but an empty shell. A crab that is hollow like that was dead before it was cooked. I never took a single bite. I showed it to our server, Remy B., who apologized and said she would let the manager know. She took the plate away, so I assumed the issue was being handled. When the bill arrived, I was still charged for the crabs. I asked to speak with a manager and explained exactly what happened. She confirmed that I had notified the server and that the plate had been taken away. Then she told me that it didn't matter because their policy is to not give refunds or remove food from a check. Let that sink in: they acknowledged that I didn't eat the food, acknowledged that the server removed it, and still charged me for it. A restaurant standing behind its food is the bare minimum. Charging customers for food that was clearly unacceptable and never eaten is ridiculous. The lack of concern from management was even more disappointing than the crab itself. The only reason this review isn't 1 star is because the young man at the host stand was friendly, professional, and the one bright spot of the entire experience.

The grits were quite grainy and didn't taste cheesy as described. They weren't creamy at all and really tasted like plain barely salted grits that could have been cooked a bit longer. The shrimp was flavorful and the sear on the outside was nice, but they were quite overcooked and tough. There was a much higher ratio of grits to shrimp and gravy than you would want, especially given the grits were not that good. However, my husband absolutely loved the chicken pasta and said it was one of the best he has ever had. They definitely can make good food but I would skip the shrimp and grits.
