Me and my boyfriend (both Hispanic decent) went to the Bowery for a late night drink. Before we could take a foot into the place a heavyset white male with a beard, I guess he was "security", told us that they had already called last call and turned us away.. Very rude. It looked like there were plenty of people in there so I don't understand why last call would be at 12:30. I work in the industry and if it is busy a restaurant won't call last call that early... It was 12:30 and maybe we just wanted to take a look around, obviously we are tourist, but we were shut down before even asked to see ID's. There was no cover on the night we visited and a country band was rocking the stage. We waited in a brief line to order two beers and luckily found a table. The seating area was PACKED to the point the table corners were touching and you had to squeeze sideways to navigate the seating area. Absolutely no social distancing or masks were visible. The air was saturated in cigarette smoke. There was a young server who kept our beers full and brought us whisky shots from the bar. During the show a medical emergency occurred and a women dancing in front of the stage collapsed from a diabetic event. The staff jumped into action to clear entry for the first responders. One over served male guest screamed at the EMT and a bouncer removed the drunk idiot quickly. The band started playing immediately after the EMT exit and didn't skip a beat.What the venue lacks in Covid 19 awareness and personal space they make up for in service and southern hospitality. read more

After a long walk along the oceanfront, and then enjoying the sights of the crammed boardwalk strip on a hot 90 degree summer day, we were in dire need of adult beverages, preferably beers in ice cold glasses. The Bowery to the rescue. My favorite country band, Alabama was the house band here in the late seventies, and this was a perfect place to have a drink. Dark and cool, with peanut shells everywhere, and a very laid-back kind of vibe. Plus country music playing loudly! It looks like the place may have just opened for the day, and it was still a bit dirty from the night before. Or maybe that is the look they are going for. Not that I care, because after a few of their house beers on tap, I could have been on the moon for all I knew. The positives...The drinks are cheap. If you're feeling bad about yourself or where you're at in life you will feel way better when you leave. It's like a trip to Walmart. You have all of your teeth, and you can look directly down and see your feet. The bouncer is actually nice for a bouncer. Kept my friends yeti safe. I mean he definitely looks like one of the perpetrators on SVU but he's a solid guy. The negatives. It's a literal dump. Imagine a large out house in hell with a bar. You're going to need a lot of hand sanitizer if you touch anything. You're going to see many people overserved to the point of soiling themselves but that's Myrtle Beach so when in Rome. Have your cam ready to take some great pictures of crazy piss drunk rednecks in their natural habitat. The food is an absolute joke. The French fries tasted like a raw potato and formed into an indigestible butt plug in my body. I don't know what kind of drugs the people are on that said this has the best food in Myrtle Beach but I really need some of that before I try it again. read more

Not sure what other bad reviews are all about but went there tonite 7/25/2021 with my kids and the food is great, prices are great and good beer was also cold and very cheap. Service not fast but come on busy season and yeah manager could use another waiter during peak hours but may be they have a reason why they do not. Overall, love it and would go back any time. This is a local "dive" bar with no super frills but its a lot of fun. The staff os awesome and on the spot to serve you and make sure that your drinks are full. Bar type food os the regular fair. First you have to remember that the food is from Duffy's and the specialty drinks are from Duffy's. The Bowery only serves beer, wine and a wine spritzer. No food. The Bowery is and always will be a huge part of the heart and soul of Myrtle Beach. I've been coming here for decades and this place is a must see when visiting MB. The band plays covers of country music but also some iconic rock tunes. The have good and bad days like all of us but I personally have NEVER been disappointed i their musical talent. I do miss the singer from a few years ago. He even resembled Randy Owen lol but the band is still really good And like my mama always said....if you can't say something nice shut your pie hole. read more

Quick review because I was only in there for a beer. But based on the establishment, the history and the service I received I'm giving it 4 stars. Country music band Alabama was the house band from 1973-1980 according to a guy behind the bar. A house band (not sure of name) plays Monday through Thursday til the singer or someone passes out ;) they can stay open til 4 am but liquor stops at 2 am. The Bowery beer tastes pretty much like a bud light. It's $2.75 and comes in a little beer mug. I'm not sure if that's the only beer they have. And they only take cash - but there's an ATM. Hubby and I were just looking for a casual burger place on the boardwalk, and settled for The Bowery. We weren't really expecting much in this bar setting, but we were okay with that. However, we weren't expecting to be so surprised. We had a GREAT meal here and left very full and very happy. First of all, I had a delicious cocktail called Pineapple Upside Down Cake. Made with vanilla vodka, pineapple juice and grenadine, it totally hit the spot. Looking through the dinner menu, I realized every burger was a 1/2 pound. I love to eat but I knew I'd never eat something that big. So hubby and I decided to split a Bleu Cheese Burger, onion rings and French fries. It turned out to be plenty of food for both of us. The onion rings were alright. The batter on them was very smooth instead of chunky, and I prefer the latter. Wasn't a bad thing - I still ate them and they tasted just fine. Fries were very good - nothing to complain about here. But it was the burger that bleu (!) us both away. It was just so freaking good. Like the best made burger you can think of (made of Angus) topped with sautéed onions (my fave) and creamy bleu cheese. It was so satisfying and perfect for what we had in mind for the evening. Service was fine. We had a nice server taking care of our table and she was friendly. Our table was seated right next to the bar, and it wasn't necessarily quiet, but it was all a part of the "biker bar" ambiance. After ID checks he then says we can't be the bag in (it is raining good now). How about letting us know right away instead of standing in the rain digging out our IDs? I only gave them one star because I have to select a star in order to rate. However, they're not even worthy of one star. After walking along the beach, I was looking for a nice place to grab a bite to eat. Stopped here and left within minutes. When I walked in, everyone brushed past a few times before someone said "sit wherever you like." I found a place to sit with only one menu on the table (I had a party of 2). The same waitress who told us to sit anywhere passed us several times and said nothing. A family of four walked in and sat down. She grabbed four menus, passed our table, went to their table and began discussing the menu. I hate making things about race so I'll just say the service was poor. The Bowery is a nostalgic gem from a bygone era. In a rapidly developing area (read: nondescript high rises, cheap souvenir stores, arcades, and nightclubs), The Bowery brings back memories of a simpler, less glitzy, but probably more fun, time. My mom likes country music, I can't stand it. But when I read about "the world's most famous honky tonk bar" I figured they had to play at least a little southern rock and blues. My instinct was correct and within moments of arriving, the band was playing a cover of Stevie Ray Vaughan's Pride and Joy. I was happy. It was our last night in Myrtle Beach, my first visit and only my mom's second in 20 years. The place was very different than she remembered and she was a little melancholy because the small Irish bar she loved so much on her first trip was gone. I figured a visit to the 73 year old Bowery might cheer her up. The decor both inside and outside is rustic, like a Wild West Saloon. Admission is $3, free with a Yelp checkin, and beach coupon allegedly, if you sit inside the main music hall where the band plays. But we opted to sit outside on the front patio, next to the inside bar. Since the space was open, we could easily see and hear the (very good) band from where we sat. We'd already eaten dinner so we just ordered drinks and snacks. My salad was fresh and mom's fries tasted homemade. She ordered an amaretto and Coke, I chose one of their fruity specialty cocktails. Here is the only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5: my drink had to be more than 3/4 pineapple juice, even though the server tried to convince me that the rum was just very sweet. Sorry kiddo, I've been drinking rum cocktails like this longer than you've been on this earth. I know a light pour when I taste it. My favorite part of the evening was being carded by the bouncer (who, incidentally, should go to Hollywood. He has this look and demeanor perfect for rugged supporting roles. Seriously. Remember Roadhouse? I'd bet the film was based on him.) And, he had the good sense to tell my mom and I that we both look far younger than our years. Good man. I have lived here for 4 years and have been wanting to go to the Bowery. Finally went with a friend the other night. Food was was not hot. I realize hard to get help these days so tend to overlook that. I figured the band would be great. NOT!!! If they sang as much as they talked then it may have been better. I don't think they have a clue as to what to sing. They are constantly hustling the crowd for money and drinks to sing song request which never get sung. When they chose to sing they had decent voices. This is the house band and they need to be replaced. Bands are for singing and entertaining not hustling the crowd. In the beginning of the week, we had been going to the bars at Broadway on the Beach and were less than impressed. The band played until 2:20, and we had a blast. We went back the next night and it was just as fun. The house band is amazing. They interact with the crowd and take requests. This is a hidden gem in the area that is part of Duffy's. There is separate entrance that will lead you to an area that has a bar and a live band. The bar only serves beer and the band is a country band that plays there every night. This band brings it every night and keeps it fresh. We stayed at a hotel for a week and stopped here three nights because they are just that good! This is coming from someone that does not even like country music so that should tell you a little about why you need to put this place on your list. read more

Every time my boyfriend and I visit Myrtle Beach this is a go to. None of the other restaurants we've visited have been nearly as good. They have the BEST burgers I've ever had. We get the chili cheese fries 30% chili 70% cheese and they come out just perfect. Drinks can add up quick but worth it. Always strong but still tasty. We have a bartender here who remembers us year after year and always gives us top service. Sometimes it can be a little slow but it's definitely worth the wait. We eat here at least 3 times every visit and it's honestly the best restaurant we've been to in Myrtle Beach. If you're weary of coming at least give it a try. read more

The atmosphere of the pub is what makes this place. The food was good and the prices were excellent. They make a really good banana daiquiri. Awesome spot off the boardwalk- had the eighth wonder and lived to tell about it! Our waitress (Belle) was one of the best we have had while in town- super attentive -great conversation skills- helped us thru the menu since it was our first time in-just all around lovely soul and our drinks never went dry. We went next door to listen to the band and same great service! The only incident that rubbed us wrong is another waitress was completely rude to ours within ear shot of the guests. I know it's a bar but that's extremely tacky to act like that in front of paying customers... had Belle not been so great then it would have really killed the mood for us. read more

I've visited Myrtle Beach SC for 40 years and have heard of the Bowery but never visited until this week 5/28/2022. I do not recommend the Bowery as a place to get any type of food. We paid to $5 to park. Walked around a bit and made a bad decision to grab food at the Bowery. The FOOD IS TERRIBLE! We were a party of 3 and paid $55 + not bad for food, but this was NOT!!!! food!!!!!!!! Appetizers ordered - Mac n cheese bits (straight out of the freezer and tasted microwaved - not even deep fried) some were rubbery and some were soggy. Daughter ordered - kids meal chicken fingers (straight out of the freezer and tasted microwaved - they looked very dark/overcooked) but they were so thin and rubbery she couldn't even tear them apart, they just bent over like a wilted flower. Husband ordered - shrimp plate with fries, 6 smaller breaded fantail shrimp (again not crispy, straight from freezer to plate) I ordered Big Daddy burger basket - definitely a frozen patty, bland, no seasoning & bun was soggy. We are not food snobs, we frequent McDonalds out of convenience and I think that would have been better. Atmosphere- we had to sit on the bar side with only (6) 4 seater tables along a wall, very tight. About 2.5 feet from chairs at the bar (it felt like butts were in my face the whole time) No music. No air, no ventilation - except wide open door. read more

First time in Myrtle and found the hot beer, bad food and bad service signs enticing enough to check out what this place had to offer. Not only is the atmosphere stimulating and full of history, the food was fantastic. Chili cheese dog, grilled chicken sandwich and fresh cut fries done all the right ways!
