HORRIBLE customer service! Lady who answered the phone was extremely abrupt. I asked simple questions about what they carried and she said she wasn't willing to give information about what they keep in stock over the phone. I asked if I could find what they offer on their website and was told no. I asked if she could email me information and she said no. I asked if there was someone else who could help me, she said no that she was the only one who worked there and that even if I called back at a different time, I would get her. I then called back a couple days later and she instantly put me on hold and actually hung up on me. I tried calling back numerous times but the phone was constantly busy. read more

Do NOT disregard the other bad reviews... take heed, as they are an accurate representation of the greedy and dishonest business practices of this store. If you walk into this place and need a black and white copy, self service, the price is 15 cents per page. However, if the item you are making a copy of is YOUR OWN CALIFORNIA ID, the price is $1 per copy. So, why is that, you ask? GREED! The US Post Office is right across the street and people come into the BOX STORE to make copies of their ID in a hurry (a copy is required for application of a US Passport, which is processed across the street). The BOX STORE recognizes that people come in for copies of their ID in a hurry and so they have jacked the price for a copy of an ID up to 666% of its normal price of 15 cents. What a despicable way to "earn" money. The owner claims to be a "Christian" in his rebuttal to another bad review... is he suggesting that his religious status somehow exempts him from dishonesty and greed? Not in my book, in fact it makes me far more suspect of what you have to hide. My experience doing business with people who proclaim their faith as proof that they are "good" usually have the most to hide. It is certainly true in this case... what a greedy, horrible excuse for a business. I hope you enjoy the additional $8 you shamefully took from me in exchange for the copies. After last minute shopping at 3 other stores, I ended up at the Box Store while in a desperate search for bubble wrap. Not just any bubble wrap, but the kind that has the big air filled bubbles that are fun to pop, just to hear the sound or to take your frustrations out on. The roll of wrap had to be as wide as my butt and lengthy enough for my boyfriend and I to make him a vest and me a skirt. Why you ask? Well, we were going to the Yelp "White Hot Bubble Party". The theme was to come in white clothing, but we wanted to also accessorize our looks with some bubble wear. I didn't think it would be that hard to find this kind of bubble wrap, but the places we went to only had Styrofoam or tiny bubbles. Anyway, upon entering this store, I found it had a large selection of boxes in all shapes and sizes! Besides various types of packing materials in small to large quantities. I had to take a quick look down the aisles for future reference. Never thought I would be this impressed! Heavy duty boxes that have individual compartments for storing glassware, dishes, and other breakables. Tubes for storing posters. Even garment boxes. If you need something protected while you travel, this place might have what you're looking for! I read the review of another Yelper who came here, and had a bad experience with the owner of the store. Fortunately, we didn't see him. The young girl who helped us was very nice and laughed at our jokes about the party we were going to. I did find it humorous that when we first walked in to the store, a very satisfied customer was leaving and announced for all to hear that this is the only store he goes to when he needs boxes! Went here to find a large packing box. I was standing in line waiting for assistance but the boy who was working (he had brown hair and blue eyes) decided to walk away even though he looked at me and didn't care to acknowledge me. therefore, i went and helped myself and I picked one from off the shelf (since the boy that was working wasn't of any assistance) and i gently opened it to see the depth and he yells "don't open the boxes because it's hard to put back on the shelf once it loses its shape". I went ahead and decided to purchase it anyway since i really needed a box and the conversation was very short. the price for the boxes in there are OVERPRICED for sure. if you're able to, I would just ask retail or grocery stores if they have any extra boxes left over or just try the UHaul store. I'll never come here again since his attitude was disgusting and the lack of customer service is pitiful. Avoid this store until they clean up their disgusting act. read more

I really like these guys. It is nice to go and have the option of shipping both USPS and FedEx from the same place and know I am getting the price/timeline options. They are friendly as long as you don't walk in and act like you don't know how to tape a box together for shipping (I am there a lot, so I have seen all sorts of customer types come in). The only downfall is, and I understand it based on shipping rules, they will not help you pack something up for shipping because if something gets crushed or broke in transport, they get blamed by the customer and the shipping company being the middle man. If you show up, prepared, with a well taped box ready for shipping you will be fine. If you show up with a music box in one hand and the thumb of your other hand shoved up your ass because you waited til the last minute to ship your friend a present for her birthday that was two days prior and you have to get it there right away, you will be treated like a person who waited til the last minute to do something with their thumb shoved up their ass. I got there about 1006am on Sunday to return a trailer so I could unload the 26 ft uhaul. I had just drove 36 hours straight from Dallas. The person asked me to back the truck up and the trailer. Well anyone that knows anything about backing up a trailer knows you can not back it up straight and the trailer backs up straight. So after I told him I wouldn't be able to do it and said they'd have to be sent out another person with a wooden stick as if that was going to magically help me back the trailer up. I told them I can't that they work here they'd need to do it. So supposedly neither of them drive the trucks or back the trailers up.... So the lady and I took the trailer off and I left it in the middle of there driveway. When I went to return the truck on Monday, the door on the parking lot aide was locked so I walked around. As I opened the door the young kid was locking it and shook his head no. I wasn't happy to say the least. He came out and told me that there was a drop box. I needed help printing a shipping label from my iPhone. Guy (employee)was super nice trying to help me. I knew she'd say something about it. (I assume owner??) she thought it was taking to long and ask her employee to do something else. I thought it was rude. I double-checked their website to determine whether they were open before I go across town to buy a box. Website says today's hours (it's Saturday) 8:30am-6pm. I arrive at 5:10pm, the Open signs are still on (there's at least two) and the door is unlocked. The guy greets me and then says they are actually closed, closed at 5pm. I tell him the website shows 6pm. He said he couldn't sell me a box. Not a good business model if you aren't willing to sell a box during normal business hours that are still posted on your website 3 hours after you told me you were closed. Bridget not only helped me find the best boxes for this, she helped with the wrapping and packing, and was just awesome with her customer service- not a single customer who came in while I was there went unserved (and she was the only one on duty). During this time I've been able to become friends with Tammy albeit we just talk while she works and during this time I've seen how hard she works as well as brings a great service to the customers. Every time I have been to this store I have had a wonderful experience. Friendly staff and know what they are doing. As for anything I've shipped here it's never gotten lost or messed up to the wrong address. Unfortunately I refuse to go to any of the other UPS Stores in Elk Grove due to either 1. Breaking my package and saying it was my fault. 2. Overcharging without telling me about a surcharge and 3. Sending two packages to the wrong people. Not to mention customer service or being friendly lacks at these three places. Plus the Box Store has a box for everything pretty much even for the bike I had to ship back to Amazon! I have been shipping stuff ups from this location for several years now always purchasing insurance on what ever it is I'm shipping never having to use the insurance but thought it was a good thing to have. Well recently I shipped an 11lbs part to Az. From Ca. Using the box store as usual I the girl behind the counter asked me if I wanted insurance blah blah blah I said yes the part I was shipping is worth about $775 so I bought $400 worth of insurance on it low and behold ups broke the neatly packed box open and the part fell out of the box. They nicely taped the box back up without the part in it. Long and the short of this whole deal is they won't cover the $400 worth of insurance that I purchased because it wasn't in a brand new box. So how does somebody sale you insurance on something they know will not be covered because the box is not brand new I feel this is fraud that's no different than selling you beach front property in Arizona. So Scott the owner filed a claim they denied it so he re filed they denied it again. If I would of known about this had to be in a new box I would of bought one. Scott also Continuously lied to me, impossible to get a hold of, I did get a hold of him he made it sound like it was my fault that I should've known it had to be a new box. Plus it's taking 30 days to go through the process and be denied. In my opinion this is the worst place to use for anything. Holy smokes, I have always had great service at this store. Today I was confronted with a very surly employee. I checked in four things and he told me that one of them had been checked for returns before. In my effort to figure out which one it was, I checked my email on my phone to compare return labels. He told me not to bother to look at my phone for my emails, to go home and call him. Because I was wasting his time. He said I don't make money on any of these returns and I don't have time to sit here and help you. When I asked him if he would just void these so that I could go home and check which ones they were since a few of them were a couple of hundred dollars apiece, he said he would not do it at the time but sometime later during the day because it took too much of his time. He also declared himself to be an accountant and he said he didn't bother to explain things to people that were over their head. Towards the end his tone became less harsh and complaining but honest to God, the worst customer service experience of my life. Oh and he basically accused me of having come in the day before because he recognized me. No sir, you did not. I have never seen you before in my life, I haven't been in to the store for at least 4 to 5 months and I hope never to run into you again. read more

I politely asked to send a box whereupon the lady simply gave me a form instructing me to complete it. She was abrupt and not helpful or polite in any way, shape or form. She said I had used the wrong form when she herself had given it to me! I was getting nowhere with her so I asked to speak with the manager. She said he wasn't available. Later I got a call from him and I explained the situation politely. He said the counter lady was not responsible in any way for the form and it was my error- he said I should've requested the right form and there wouldn't be a problem. Not familiar with the forms, I was caught in a catch-22. Obviously she had clued him in ahead of time to her distorted perception and the manager decided to go with her version. read more

When walking into the store I did notice there were 2 other customers being help. When I approached the desk a young 20 something looked at me and said with some abruptness, "what do you need"? I explained to her I was hoping they could package and ship my 2 framed pictures. She said it was going to be awhile. I replied with, no problem. 5 minutes pass and she asked again what I needed. I again explained what I needed. She then went walking In circles. 5 min pass again and she asked again what I needed. At this time another woman working was now helping a new customer. 4th time the young girl asked what I needed. I at this time explained, I think I would rather wait for the other lady (thinking to myself, the other woman seemed to know what she was doing). The young girl rolled her eyes, said"whatever" and walked to the back of the store. At this point I have felt disrespected and finally said something about her attitude. I gathered the frames and headed out the door saying to her, " you have a really bad attitude and disrespectful. I left and went to competition down the street. Which the competition was polite, smiled and eager to help. By the way they had 4 people ahead of me but they were eager to help me and they greeted me with a "hi! How can I help you. Next time Box Store treat your customers with respect, you may get grateful customers. read more

Extremely poor customer service. Their returns policy is a lie. I had to return a box I never even used, and the girl would not accept it, actually claiming (i.e. lying) that she was not authorized in the system to accept returns. She was abrupt, rude, and had no people skills whatsoever. This is not the place to go to if you are looking for pleasant workers who actually want and care about having your business. I don't understand how you can be in business helping people, and have a bad attitude, let alone lie to the people, who are the reason you have a job. read more

Stay Away from this Business!!! I had a mailbox through this business's broadway location, paid all my dues timely, and used this box for my business address for almost 2 years with no problems, then, suddenly within one week in October the place is closed down, with no warning, and with a letter in my box saying that I could use my optional key (that I didn't have) to access building for one more month and refunds would be dispersed that following month (November) for the remainder of my box's rental fee for the year, (which I paid in July). Finally after no contact, money, or returned phone calls about my refund and why I had not received it, I had to try to personally go into the elk grove store to find the owner to see what happened. He was never available, and I was always turned away by the clerk with a shrug, but then she cut me a key to the building so I could check my mail. He called me once in november to talk to me about my key issue, but that was already solved, (which happened because they closed a day earlier than they said in their letter! btw) and I figured my refund would still come soon. Later I went back again in person to see what happened to my refund when I was not contacted by the owner when I left a message in January. This happened a few times, until finally in MARCH I told the clerk to tell him l would take him to court for the money if he did not have it by the end of the week. I told her this calmly and said that I was not directing my issue towards her and was trying to talk solely with the owner she said that was fine but he wasn't there at the store. Suddenly within five minutes of leaving, Scott the owner miraculously called me and said I would never receive my money and that I was threatening him, which was false. He said my money meant nothing to him, I was a "complainer" and he had plenty of business and he didn't need mine, and said he only offered to pay my money in the letter out of the KINDNESS of his heart, as if he was doing me a favor offering to return the money I was OWED. He said he sent his clients back money orders in January(which is two months late if this is even true), then tried to claim that I had problably cashed it and was now trying to cheat him, which is false since I received nothing. I told him to check his records and see if I had cashed it, which I knew of course I had nothing from him, and asked him why he didn't just cut me a check so he could have cancelled it if there was an error, and he said to protect himself from "people like me" (I'm guessing he meant honest people, since I've been straightforward from the beginning and he hasnt)? He said to never come back to his store again, and if I "threatened" him again, he would contact authorities (which is hilarious since there was no threats), and said he would never pay me my owed money. I told him if he would have bothered to call me back and tell me what was going on or paid me my money I wouldn't have had to come in there in the first place!!!! Anyway, I think telling someone you are going to seek legal action for what you are owed five months after it is promised is pretty natural? Don't you all? DONT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS DISHONEST MAN! I have to see him in court, but you don't! STAY AWAY! In my opinion this guy has a problem, and as much damage control as his wife is trying to do, I'm going to have to agree with the ninja guy on this one because he was a total inconsiderate jerk to me. I'm speaking the truth on this and how it happened! Guess, what Scott? I took business law myself!!! But, you missed the class on CUSTOMER SERVICE apparently.
