Found this restaurant over a weekend while I was working on the island. I liked everything that I tried, but my favorite was the veggie hash. Every time I had it, it was different, from what I was told they chose what is in it based on what is available on the island. Everyone working there was very nice, and attentive. If I ever make it back to Whidbey Island, this will be one of 2 places that I will goto again. Charming atmosphere(with a pet friendly outdoor seating area) but placed an order to go instead. We ordered the much raved about corned beef MASH. It comes with 3 eggs and your choice of toast or biscuit. We just wanted to try the corned beef mash and was offered it as a side (without the eggs or biscuit). As the waitress rung it up, it was then that she said it would be the same price as the meal. In that case, I said, we'll have the biscuit then (which seemed to have irritated the waitress). Waited 20 minutes (no big deal as it was slightly crowded; went searching for a geocache nearby). Had a bite in the car: skimped on the actual beef, half a potato unmashed (see photo) hardened melted cheese and it overall had a very chemical taste. The biscuit was dry and had an even worse chemical taste. Something about the whole thing was not right at all. If we had eaten in the restaurant I would definitely have sent it back to the kitchen. My wife and I started coming to The Braeburn long before we lived on Whidbey Island but even now, it's still our favorite breaking spot. I've become such a big fan of their veggie hash (seasonal, local veggies of the day with eggs & toast), it's hard to order anything else. Plus, there's always a special soda or beer available to sample. The service is always friendly, especially the owner, and our dog loves coming with us and sitting on the back patio. read more

Burger was good although there was a bit more mayo than I like. I got a side of fruit which looked rough but tasted good. We also got the root beer pulled pork sandwich which had a unique flavor and was very good. Service was good as well, will be back for breakfast for sure read more

Cute homie place. With that being said, it was very slow. The customer service was sub par, and the food was decent.

Came in late afternoon and immediately smiled at all the pet art work on the walls. We ate outside, even though there was light construction going on, it was still peaceful and a nice quaint setting. We had a light lunch with a spinach salad and half a meat loaf sandwich, both incredibly fresh and flavorful! A true surprise of a place. Server was polite and prompt. Do not recommend. Party of four. Three had poor to bad food. Cowboy Burrito ordered without bacon, came with bacon. $13.00 pancakes were kid sized and hard, for that price we would have expected them fluffy. I ordered biscuits and gravy, nowhere in the description of the meal did they say that it had onions in the gravy. The onions overpowered the gravy and sausage making it inedible. As for the service, I had to go to the front counter to ask for a water refill as our waitress never stopped by our table to check on us, I had asked for some ketchup and waited as our server walked by our table at least four times, even though it was sitting on a table right behind our table, and there was no interaction when she dropped it off, just sat it down on the table and walked away. On their part they did not charge me for the half eaten burrito. I had a very hard time tipping for this meal. I normally am a generous tipper but not today, as the food and service was very underwhelming. read more

Lunch here was quite nice. Quaint little place with a lot of regulars/locals, which is a good sign. Food was great and they were very accomodating. The server was superb -- forgot her name or I'd recommend you ask for her. They only accept cash or checks so make sure you're prepared for that... but it also helps keeps prices down if they're not paying credit card fees! read more

We stumbled into this gem accidentally... Next door's coffee house smelled of burnt toast, and was packed to the brim, so we journeyed over to Braeburn. We sat in an adorable outdoor area, but the highlight was definitely the food! The Bloody Marys were ridiculously good, and next came the bread pudding! The four of us were half-full when our amazing breakfasts arrived... Needless to say, Braeburn filled our bellies, and we waddled away as very happy campers. I thought the wineries would be the highlight of the island, but this place stole the spotlight for us. read more

We also stumbled into this place by accident (as others have stated). Small place, nicely decorated, staff very friendly. We had the Braeburn salad, the Caesar salad, and the Caprese sandwich. All of these were outstanding. The Caesar salad may be the best I have ever eaten (lots of garlic). I would go back to this restaurant without hesitation. Had a super lunch here today. We sat on their side patio and enjoyed the fresh air. I had the Triple Digit sandwich with potato salad. It was tasty! Sweet raisin bread with salty bacon and sharp cheddar. I've never had this combo before and I scarfed it right up. I am a picky potato salad person and I enjoyed their version as well. We like breakfast. We enjoyed our breakfast at the Braeburn. Their potatoes are YUMMY. Coffee was decent, omelets were filling, apple butter was tasty. I asked the waitress for a single blueberry pancake after she finished taking our order, which she acknowledged, but I never got it (and wasn't charged). But I still enjoyed the rest of my breakfast. First let me say that I love breakfast, we went on a very busy Sunday and the food would have been good if it wasn't so cold. Our waiter was MIA and we even had to wait a while for the bill. As a musician, I'm always looking for a hearty breakfast and good service at the right price. You cannot find a cheap meal on the island so don't worry about it. The food was tasty and the service was swift. They skimped on the bacon in the omelette . $24.00 including tip for two plates without coffee. Better than average and not loud at all. My husband and I have a cabin on the island, and go to the braeburn every time we're there. We've had almost everything on the menu, and usually try whatever the special of the day is. It's all good-both breakfast and lunch. The ingredients are fresh, usually local (when available), and we appreciate the high quality meats. My favorite meal is the veggie hash-veggies vary based on what's in season and available. The biscuits are fantastic, especially when covered with any of the local jams! The service is always friendly, and the ambience is comfortable and makes you feel right at home. I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews. Worst. Service. EVER. We were told it was going to take 10 min to be seated. It took 30 minutes and when we went to question what was taking so long they completely ignored us. I always think about ordering something different, but I end up ordering the Cowboy Burritos every time because they are so delicious. And I get them with POTATOES! I have lived on Whidbey my whole life. So when my sister wanted to throw my daughter a baby shower I thought the The Braeburn was a wonderful idea. A staff member assured my sister it would be no problem. She ordered the invitations and was then told by a manager and then the owner that they don't take reservations in the summer at all. Now my sister is out the expense of the original invitations and needs to re-order them as we re-arrange all of the plans. It is a huge inconvenience. I personally will never go to or recommend The Braeburn to anyone ever again. read more

The Braeburn continues to be a fun and delicious breakfast and lunch spot for us. We enjoy the view of town from the front windows. It's hard for me to believe the few bad reviews they have received. Yes, occasionally things go awry and one might have to wait a little longer than normal for food, but part of its charm is that it's not a chain. There are real people serving and making the food and sometimes things go a little haywire. I have never had a bad meal and I always feel I get good value for my money. The staff is always a hoot and so very nice. Lisa is terrific and easy to talk to. This is a must for anyone coming to Langley. Ask any of the locals and they'll all tell you the same thing. read more

I've come here for breakfast for years! Over the last year the quality of the food has greatly decreased. Today we went in for breakfast, we walked through flys spiraling just inside and many dead bugs in the window sill next to our table, this should have been an omen to leave! We ordered stuffed French toast which looked good on the menu, looked good placed at the table, what didn't look or taste good was the 1/2 inch thick literal slab of cold, plain cream cheese between the two pieces of French toast! Couldn't it at least be soft so it melts, or whipped together with other goodies and be piped in between the layers? I ordered the Popeye omelette and like I always do- add spinach and cheddar. Normally this isn't difficult and I never add things if it is busy, today there was only 1 other table besides us. My omelette comes, and the "add spinach" meant to this cook "half ass the omelette and put a massive wad of cold, raw spinach spilling out the front", even the server commented that it looked like a salad. I have never sent a meal back- this was a first! The server said this same issue has come up 3-4 times in the last week... Upon getting the second one, I felt like the cook was mocking me and wilted the spinach on top and below the omelette... What is so hard about putting spinach INSIDE?! We ate what we could of both and asked for the check. This place charged $1.50 for my "add cheddar" which was at best 2 TBLS of pre shredded cheddar! We paid the check, tipped the server and left, we will not be back. read more

When you first walk in you think you're going to get strictly old-fashioned cooking but Lisa, the new owner, is mixing in fresh new items with the old favorites. Since my original review, I've re-tried The Braeburn twice and there is definite improvement. However, it's not enough to dramatically change my original review. The service feels much better (especially the male waiter that's been there at least a year now - very friendly and attentive) and there have been tiny tweaks to the decor that have really refreshed the space. So ... the food. I've been back for breakfast only and ordered the Eggs Benedict each time. Each time I very specifically ordered my eggs "poached hard" and saw the waiter making a note. Each time my eggs have been served runny, making me wonder if the chef has a personal issue with Benedict served without runny yolk and so refuses to do it. Or he/she doesn't know how to do a hard poach? Either way, I have to remove the eggs from the EGGS Benedict as I truly can't stand runny egg yolk. Also, the Hollandaise sauce was served cool both times - not "lukewarm" but cool. I'm not sure how that even happens, especially when the dish is on the Specials menu and the sauce is pretty much the star element. Overall, I don't want to suggest that folks visiting Langley not go to The Braeburn for breakfast; it's a warm and cozy restaurant with a convenient location. It's just my personal opinion that the food isn't excellent and, as a local, it's disappointing that we don't have an awesome breakfast place on the south end. read more

I'm torn leaving this review. We have eaten here before a handful of times over the years and it's been good. This is the first time eating here since their remodel. The place looks great. It was slightly busy but we didnt wait long for a table, waited a little long for the food once ordered. I ordered the eggs Benedict, husband ordered biscuits and gravy, kids had French toast and pancakes. The food looked super delicious but I'm afraid it took a turn for the worst once we began eating. I have no idea if we got a bad batch but the biscuits my husband and I had were inedible. It was as if someone had just mixed flour and water and baked it. They were hard, tasteless, no rise, and had a very unpleasant texture. I find it hard to believe a place like this wouldn't notice such a thing which makes me believe that it was a fluke. We literally could not eat it. The rest of my plate, the eggs, ham, and hollandaise was good, although not very warm by the time it came out. The rest of my husbands meal, the sausage gravy was very good he said. My kids French toast and pancakes came out good, as expected. Bacon was very good, sausage good, and side of fruit very good. But it was disappointing spending over $60 when we each had half a plate that we couldn't eat. I will try it again just to be sure. But seriously, if anyone who works there see's this, please take your biscuits more seriously. It was the base of both of our meals and it can make, or in this case break, the entire meal. read more

My husband and I ate here twice last weekend, once for breakfast, and once for lunch. The staff were very friendly--I forgot my camera at the table, and our waiter ran a couple blocks to return it to us. WOW! I had the stuffed apple french toast for breakfast, yumm, and the BBQ pork made with home-made root beer. Double yumm! I didn't care for the apple potato salad, and normally I eat most potato salads... I also tried their home made root beer in a float. I'm glad the ice cream was there, otherwise I may not have been able to drink it... The root beer was ok, but definitely not Barques or Mug. It made a great BBQ sauce though!! My husband had the Cobb salad, which he loved, and the non-stuffed apple french toast--which he also liked. The prices were a bit on the high end, but so was everywhere else we ate at in Langley. Be sure to bring cash, as they don't take credit cards. For breakfast we sat in the front window, and for lunch we sat outside. The patio seating was quite nice. We'll be back! read more
