Tried out this local restaurant in historic downtown Sanford. There is indoor and outdoor seating with friendly staff. Prices are pretty neutral and the serving sizes are filling. We shared the mussels which was served with toasted buttery bread. The sauce that the mussels were cooked in was nice to sop up with the bread. Very tasty. I enjoyed my Jumbo gulf shrimp which I ordered blackened with green beans as my side. The shrimp are huge and the seasoning was great. We also got the shrimp and grits which were great, but if you order grits as your side they serve that literally on the side and not mixed into the dish. Finally we ordered the sidekick steak which we ordered medium with French fries. Unfortunately their medium was too well down for us and it was tough to eat. 2 stars for a disappointing experience. The potential is clearly there. Live music, outside seating, cute downtown Sanford, but this trip was not a good one. I showed up for a birthday dinner on a Friday night. We had a reservation for 8 people called in for 7:30. It took dang near 45 minutes for them to get the table ready. This was not a spur of the moment call ahead thing. The reservation was days old. Once we were seated we were told the server would be there shortly. She was not. Eventually she came and asked us if we wanted any drinks. After placing the order we were left to wonder what was taking so long as she went MIA for a curiously long time. Eventually she came back with menus, which we should have had all along. We ended up ordering muscles and fried mushrooms as appetizer, neither of which were impressive. For an entire I ordered the shrimp and grits, while others got the cheese stake, a friend chicken sandwich, friend shrimp, some sort of chicken pasta and a filet of haddock. Surprise, another EXTREMELY long wait for the food! The Cheese stake was way too dry and was replaced with a decent burger. They took the cheese stake off the bill but really should have completed the burger becuase after that super long wait the 1st time we had to wait again for the burger. The only reason I gave 2 stars and not 1 is because the shrimp and grits were actually pretty good. There were 6 large shrimp and some chopped up sausage of a decent portion of cheese grits. At least those were good. The others in the party did say they though the food was ok, but not worth the wait. With so many other choices in downtown Sanford, you may want to try another spot before you end up here. read more

Breezeway is a local's favorite. Unlike most of the reviews, i believe the service here is actually pretty good, especially considering how busy they always are. Every time I've been seated, within the first couple of minutes the server always gets our drink order and brings it back pretty quickly. Seating inside is limited, but the BREEZEWAY has a pretty good amount of seats and it's pretty cool. The ambiance is almost one of a kind (well in Sanford anyways) Food: it's primarily a seafood restaurant but they have a good mix of American dishes, soups and salads. I wouldn't give it 5 Stars, i tend to reserve that for restaurants that knock my socks off. But the staff and uniqueness gives this place a solid 4 Stars in my book. I have wanted to go by this place for a while, but every time I end up on First St., the place is packed! Today, we were walking around and saw plenty of seats available at lunchtime, so I figured it would be a great opportunity to give it a try. I had my eye on the Mahi with Dirty Rice and it did not disappoint! I chose a side of garlicky green beans with it, and I thought it was terrific! Something I would definitely go back for. One of my favorite things about the restaurant was the Kid Menu. As a single dad, who eats out way too much, I always cringe at most of the kid offerings when we go out. Yes, it drives me nuts that the meal of choice is going to be half a box of Kraft Mac and Cheese! My daughter ordered some Fish Sticks and French Fries. Instead of getting some warmed up Mrs Paul's, they served a plate with two huge homemade fish sticks and thick fries. The food was plenty. The kids meals were good portions for my kids. The kids received a drink included with their meals. The special that my husband tried was the pork tacos. I ended up getting the big fish and it was so big that it laid over the bun. So I shared some with the kids. And shared half the fish with my husband while I stole 1 of his 3 tacos. I got the fish fried. The batter was not anything exciting, but the fish was good. If I were to go there again I probably would get the pork tacos. read more

No Bueno place had a limited menu due to an Art festival going on downtown and was not serving the Sanford Special breaded tenderloin sandwich because they wanted to have the kitchen run faster and due to the size of the tenderloin they make and only having 3 fryers it was not on the menu. With the festival going on it would have been nice they placed a notice on the website as I drove from Lake Mary to check out the BPT and had no idea this was going on guess next time I will call. Having been here a few times, sometimes for lunch and once for dinner, there is one 5 star item on their menu. Its their cobb salad. At a price of $12.99, it literally has everything. And its gigantic. There is lettuce, egg, tomato, onion, olives, bacon, bell pepper, ham, blue cheese crumbles, cheese, and I am sure I am missing somethings. You can add chicken for an additional price. But its so good I really can't express it in words! Went there for lunch. The hostess was charming and very personable. We were seated quickly but had to wait for a waitress. We ordered and my friend chose the tomato and mozzarella caprese salad. When it was served, my friend noted that there wasn't any basil on it. The waitress reply was "we're out of basil" to which my friend replied that would have been nice to know before she ordered it. If you enjoy coconut flavored mouthwash, I suggest you order two. Nothing was bad, but my problem was that nothing was good! Stopped in randomly for lunch, as it was close to our parking spot and looked open and casual enough for a couple of worn-out toddlers. What we found was a hidden gem... love when that happens. We chatted with our server who told us the owner is a big fan of New Orleans cuisine - who can fault a person for that?! - and that he takes the menu very seriously. I had read the reviews and thought a little before comming here. I am from out of state and this place was referred to me by some of those I was working with. I'm all for giving the benefit of the doubt and it paid off. I can only assume like any other restaurants they have their off days. The hosts seem very laid back and in their ways but everyone was pleasent. 1- the restaurant inside is not so spacious but the bar is happening you need wide selection of beer,wine and hard liquor they have it. The decor is nice and the outside seating is perfect. 2-the waitress was very responsive and they were not to busy but she dang well took care of me yeah stephie im talking to you. You were awesome and super friendly thank you. 3-... now if ingot a fish sandwich out in California like this they would of charged me 25 bucks.. which makes me love this place more.they give you what you pay for and then some. The fish had some good flavor and mixed with some lemon and their sauce .. it was delicious. The fries were perfect , brown crunchy with enough seasoning on them. The side salad made easy happy.. the romaine and cucumbers were crunchy along with the veggies ad spinach. The tomatoes were a little squishy but I got over it once I used there balsamic. . For me, The Breezeway was always one of those restaurants that I passed by and wondered about, but never really felt compelled to try. Situated in the heart of downtown Sanford, they have a prime location for both indoor and outdoor dining, with a full outdoor bar that often features live entertainment. I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, and found myself drinking and eating in their outdoor area. Although it was a very hot day, their signature breezeway was shaded and cooled by fans, and it offered the perfect spot to take a break and grab a drink. The service was excellent - we were brought menus and ordered drinks within minutes of seating ourselves, and our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered several different beers, as well as some mixed drinks (The Grand and a Mojito), and I was pleasantly surprised by their strength. The food was standard bar fare, which I expected and was the main reason I'd never really made a point to stop in previously. We ordered fried mushrooms as an appetizer, and they were crispy and flavorful, served with a bold ranch sauce. I understand that a lot of places serve fried foods on a bed of lettuce to soak up some of the grease, but there was a lot of lettuce underneath this dish and it felt kind of wasteful. I ordered the garlic wings as my main dish and was satisfied with them. They were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the garlic flavor was not overpowering. While I can see myself bringing friends here to grab a drink and some standard pub grub, I didn't find the food to be anything to go out of my way for. The location, atmosphere, great drinks and friendly staff definitely put The Breezeway higher on my list for a casual hangout spot, though. read more

I usually always read Yelp reviews beforehand and plan, which restaurant we go to. I didn't with this one, as we happen to walk by and it looked inviting. I agree with previous reviewers, that the service lacks extremely. I don't expect much but certain things are just a given. It took forever for the server to take our drink order, it took forever for him to bring the drinks, it took forever for him to take the food order and over 35 min to bring the food (sandwiches and kids fish sticks). Then he brought the food without silverware and when we asked for ketchup, he brought mayo. By the time he brought the mayo, I had flagged down another server to bring us ketchup and he was even faster than our guy. We never received refills and it also took a long time to get the bill. The food was 4 stars and the two musicians were great. I am just very disappointed in the service and it looks like I am not the only one. There are other great places in Sanford and we will definitely chose somewhere else next time. read more

The food is decent, and the atmosphere is certainly unique. But the best part of the Breezeway is Jess the bartender outside. She is as adorable as she is great at making bar folks, like us happy. It's really a pleasure to come and hangout at the bar when she is in charge. She seems to have a loyal following, and We're certainly among them. We ordered a chicken sandwich, chicken salad sandwich and kids cheese quesadilla. The food was absolutely horrible. Cold with no taste. The kids cheese quesadilla was tiny, had little cheese, tasteless and chewy (and cost $7). The chicken sandwich was slimy. Our waiter was nice but that's about it. Took the wife out for lunch in downtown Sanford and a neighbor had mention this spot to me previously but I showed up on a day they were closed for some remodeling. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is the AC didn't work well to the point it was cooler to sit outside on a late June afternoon. Both my wife and I went with the Big Fish sandwich...she went grilled and I did it blackened. It's a huge portion of haddock and both the Sammy and fries were delicious. After searching high and low for a decent place to eat that is open on a Monday night, we came across this place and decided to give it a try. We'll we were not disappointed one bit. Our waiter was awesome! He made us feel at home and was constantly checking with us to make sure we had everything we needed. Our party was overly hungry, so we by-passed the appetizers. I tried the blackened mahi-mahi over dirty rice. The dish was seasoned to perfection and has decent heat to it. Some of the other orders in our party were the crab cakes, which were delicious, plenty of crab and lite on the filler. The pastrami sandwich and burger over-sized and delicious. Having lived in Tampa for some 20 years and Atlanta for 4, I can say I've been to my share of lousy restaurants. The Breezeway is anything but. Great portions, great service and an amazing atmosphere. Outdoor dining is wonderful here with the Lighting and music. Our server, Jacob, was a genuine treat!
