Really excellent ambiance and a beautiful day in Sanford! We sat on the outside patio relaxing before our flight home to Tn. My husband and I often compare and rate our selections and for once, I won! While his blackened grouper sandwich and home style fries were very good, I ordered the blackened Mahi Mahi tacos and they were spectacular! A very fresh caught meaty blackened fish...and a fresh made mango salsa not even on the menu yet was a excellent offset of taste. We met chef Justin who came out to great us and said that the sauce was actually for a special tonight he was doing. It also had a hint of jalapeño that gave that just the right kick at the end! Amazing sandwich HUGE! Visiting from California and I was pleasantly surprised with the food, service and ambiance. I shared my "Breezeway Special" because there was no way I'd finish it was Breaded to perfection and the pork was not dry, very delicious. The waitresses were very attentive and nice, I didn't catch their names (pretty with long dark hair the other one was cute with foot print tattoos on her neck) I gather they've worked there a bit since my coworker knew them. I will definitely be coming back with friends next time and hopefully catch the night time entertainment. read more

For the most part we managed to stay dry which was a definite W! I started w a Hurricane to drink, kind of fitting due to the weather and just like the storm it was a strong hurricane so strong that I could taste the alcohol on the orange slice! To eat I had medium garlic wings. They were good sized wings with average flavor. Everything that the table ordered looked delicious. This restaurant was recommended by a friend, but unfortunately not a great experience for us. The courtyard seating area is nice enough, but it took a long time to get our food. When it did come, it was luke warm at best so apparently had been sitting around for a while. Also ended up cancelling a drink order since we never received it. BEWARE! I myself am a bartender/server and have been working in the hospitality industry for over ten years in Downtown Orlando. We got such horrible service but we truly felt taken advantage of. How do we get overcharged, told the charge was voided, and here we are two weeks later with two different charges on our account. We got our bill with no itemized copy. The bartender ran our card, and it came back and we noticed it couldn't be correct. We sat there while she was inside for a good 10-15 minutes and she came back already with a voided slip in her hand telling us she "accidentally hit the repeat button for a beer" (which sounds impossible because we didn't order anything else for her to hit the repeat button). How did she even know that's why we were sitting there??? The whole situation was super sketchy. We called a total of THREE different times about our charges. The last time we were just told "my manager said it was voided" and that was it. So, now we are going through our bank to handle this matter. I was told someone would be calling me and "not to worry" but no one ever got back to me. It's just a matter of dishonesty at this point. Not ONE person sounded like they wanted to actually help me or that they cared. Don't you want people coming BACK to your restaurant? This is actually my first Yelp review because it was that BAD. This restaurant is AWESOME!!! It seemed like they put a little love into each of their dishes. We came here on a Sunday afternoon, and they had alive music outside in the, wait for it... BREEZEWAY!!! :) There were beautiful lights strung up and even water misters built into the ceiling in this covered area which really helped keep the temperature comfortable even on the hot July afternoon that it was. Our server was amazing. Very attentive and she made us feel very welcome. This place is extremely dog friendly, and I watched as the servers even made sure the pups had their needs met as well with fresh water. They had a varied and enticing beer selection, filled with some basic domestics and some interesting micro brews. Their mixed drink menu looked great, too. Now onto the important part. The food was delicious. And not only was it delicious, but the Breezeway doesn't skimp on portions. I ordered the Black and Blue burger. Sometimes I hesitate to order blue cheese as the only cheese on a burger because it is usually a light dusting of crumbles, and I really love cheese too much for that to be satisfying. But the Breezeway completely surprised me! The loaded my thick burger up with thick-cut bacon and plenty of creamy blue cheese chunks. It was really rich and amazing. But the real surprise was the Sanford Special sandwich. You MUST check out my picture! That was the biggest sandwich I've ever seen!! (That's what she said... LOL). And it was totally delicious, fortunately even after my husband ate what he could, we had enough leftovers for at least two or three more big sandwiches. The homemade horseradish sauce that comes with the Sanford Special was great on both the pork sandwich and the fries. My last trip here was GREAT but this visit was far from enjoyable. We stopped by on our way back from St. Augustine because I have been here several times with my son-in-law but never with my wife. I told her how good the food and service was so I was really looking forward to her seeing first hand what I have raved about. I ended up with egg on MY face... We chose an outside seat and the server was kind enough to wipe down the table right under the street lamp we wanted to sit at. My wife ordered Hot tea with lemon and iced tea with lime for me as usual. My first clue should have been how slow it was and that it took a while just to get our drinks. It only got worse from there. A few minutes later she took our order and it was the Ahi Tuna appetizer for my wife and the Fried Red Snapper Sandwich with fries for me. Our server let us know a to go order for 14 sandwiches was put in just before ours so we'd have a little wait. REALLY!?! Guests at the table take a back seat to to go orders? 40 minutes later we still have no food. I requested the manager and she told us... "It normally takes 40 minutes to get food because everything is made fresh." I told her that the last time I was her with three others, we had food in less than 20 minutes and it was a lot busier. After hearing that, we just got up and left. We headed to a place we found up the street a week ago called Negril Spice and in less that 20 minutes had a delicious Caribbean dinner in front of us along with great service to boot. It will be a while before I give them another chance after this incident in spite of how good the food is. This is a great example of how the manager and kitchen can undermine a server! read more

I came on a Friday night with my kids for an early mother's Day dinner. I had a porterhouse that was cooked perfectly. My daughter had the French onion soup and firecracker shrimp. She is still talking about that shrimp. She loved it. My son had the mahi over dirty rice and his girlfriend had the tuna. Not a single complaint from any of us. Our waitress, Alex, was so sweet and on top of everything. We sat outside and it was so pretty. Unfortunately, none of us got any pictures. Our large group of us came in for the first time today in hopes of having an early dinner. We ordered drinks, some of us ordered appetizers and salads. An hour and twenty minutes later we inquired about our meals. All of us were quite hungry. Our waitress went back to the kitchen and asked about how much longer until she'd be able to serve us. "It should all be ready in at least 20 more minutes," she said. Beside myself I asked, "Twenty MORE minutes? On top of the hour and twenty minutes we've already waited?! At least three other tables with larger parties were seated well after us and have all gotten their meals?!" The waitress said with a sigh, "Very sorry about this. I wish I had an answer for you. Your meals should be up soon." Exasperated, disappointed and still hungry, we asked for our checks. On our way to a movie, we didn't have another twenty minutes to wait. I requested to speak with the owner, who apparently was the manager on duty. Upon speaking with him, I recounted all that happened up to that point. He had no idea what happened but assured us he would "figure out what happened," and that they "would do better next time." Sorry, sir. For me there will not be a next time. read more

Went here with a group of friends after visiting the zoo and we wanted to grab lunch and a few drinks. Unfortunately we picked the wrong day to come. We were seated after waiting a few minutes and everything seemed to be very chaotic. Upon being seated a few different servers approached our table looking around, and then explained one of the servers had lost their tablet with their tips in it. We told them we had not seen it, and we even moved and helped them look around the area. This is when it started to become uncomfortable, we got our drinks and then the server who lost it kept walking by looking around and eyeing us all up. This continued to happen for about 20 minutes, and during that time NO ONE came to take our order, despite us all having our menus closed and being ready to order. Finally we were able to flag down our server and get our check. We let her know how uncomfortable the other server or busses whatever he was had made us feel, and alerted her how long we had been waiting. She could've cared less. We paid our bill and went across the street to Hollerbach's where we had a MUCH more pleasant experience! Do yourself a favor and skip this place and head across the street! read more

Great place! Wish I was an investor in The Breezeway. This place is going to be a winner - the owners are very savvy about what people like and are hand's-on and local; the servers know everyone in town; the food is very well prepared; the prices are reasonable; the atmosphere is very convivial with both an inside and outside area; there's plenty of easily-accessible parking; the location can't be beat - what's not to like? Try the New Zealand mussels - cooked just right - tender and tasty - prepared and placed in front of you in a large bowl of a to-die-for garlic/butter reduction - ask for extra bread in order to sop up all of the little morsels of amazing flavors enveloped in that delightful and flavorful reduction at the bottom of the bowl. Save room - time to move on to one of the best dinner values in FL - The Mayor. This huge rib-eye steak is advertised on the menu as being 26 oz - at least - and looks awesome when delivered sizzling hot and cooked to perfection to your table. The chef makes magic happen with some secret rub prior to grilling - the delectable, crusty exterior shows perfect grill marks and really adds an amazing mouth-feel to every bite. The medium-rare middle is oh-so-tender - you can almost skip using the large steak knife accompanying your meal. Did I also mention what a bargain this steak is? How about under $30 including a cold, crispy, fresh mixed green salad, a side (potato/twice-baked/greeen of the day), and a basket of hot bread - an incredible value for a steak dinner that will hold its own in comparison to Ruth's, Fleming's, or Morton's - for far less than half the price. One minor quibble - I hope the owners consider upgrading their wine selections - a meal this good deserves an equally impressive wine accompaniment. All in all, a wonderful place - for eats, or just drinks - has finally arrived in downtown Sanford. Had a great experience today and it was our first time here. This is a hidden gem in Sanford and if you haven't been here I highly recommend it. The outdoor seating is really nice and the ambience is perfect. There was a girl singing outside named Alex and she was singing acoustically and it was very enjoyable. The best part of all was our server Ariel she was personable and recommended some great food. The portion sizes are really big and the salad dressings are made in house. Don't come here for food. It's a beautiful place for drinks. Our party of five came here for a late lunch. We were the only people at the restaurant and we sat on the beautiful outdoor patio. The waitress provided us with menus and drink suggestions. I ordered a well margarita and a water. The rest of the party order waters, unsweetened iced teas, and a diet coke in addition to drinks. When the water arrived (well before any alcoholic drinks) the first person who tasted it commented that it tasted "moldy." This of course made everyone rush to taste their own water and we all agreed the water had "fuzzy mouth feel" that you do NOT ever want with water. The waitress laughed and took the drinks away. The other drinks were fine and the margaritas were good. We ordered blackened grouper bites, two clam chowder, fish tacos, french onion soup, and a garden salad. The food took almost an hour. We considered leaving and just paying for the drinks. The waitress claimed the chef just got in or had called out or something. I wasn't quite sure about the story. However, we didn't have anything else to do so we waited. The salad and french onion soup I was told were very good. The clam chowder was also good, though apparently not great. The fish tacos were apparently sub-par. The fish was very soggy tasting (it was broiled) and not good. I also though the fish bites were not good. I was surprised because they noted that the fish was super fresh. I heartily disagree. It smelled slightly and I did not finish my meal. Overall, the food was not good. Also, water with "mouth feel" is always a bad sign. Regrettably, we will not be returning. The place is beautiful and probably a fun bar. However, it does not succeed as a restaurant. read more
