Just stopped in with my wife and another couple as this place was recommended. Took up two seats with four of us and asked to see the menu. Was asked in not told to move over as there are some people who wanted to eat at the bar. Fine with that. After that we were treated like they just want us out of there. Gave the bartender no tip and he came out after we left cursing us. Told him how we felt and he proceeded to come out the back of the building and continue to swear at us. Called up the establishment we left Nas for the owner who told us she was the daughter of the owners. Evidently this is why this place has the reviews it has. Decor seems dated with fake antique lighting from Home Depot and painted floors that would of been better served simple finished with natural tones and urethane. Staff was fine didn't elevate the establishment. Food was mediocre with strange pairings and bland flavors. I grew up on the cape in the restaurant business and have since lived in a few major cities so have been exposed to some great chefs and restaurants and the Brewster fish house used to be one of my favorites. It def feels run of the mill at best now vs a destination for high quality impressive food. Perhaps they are fine to settle in with regular clientele who has a less adventurous palate but was a real disappointment to how I remembered it. read more

Mostly, this place felt like a ripoff. My husband ordered the $44 scallop entree which arrived with four scallops! Ridiculous. I did like my entree quite a bit, the pasta with clams, but we will never go back because of the scallop rip off and the caesar salad was skimpy too. The outside seating is pathetic -scant effort was put into making it nice. I think this restaurant used to have a good reputation but i do not recommend it now. read more

Brewster Fish House is by far one of the best restaurants on the Cape. My duck was cooked to tender perfection and the English peas were delicious. My husbands Lobster pappardelle special was loaded with fresh lobster meat with flavorful cheesy sauce. The lobster Rangoon were perfect! This place is small so get in early!! read more

The best in Brewster! We had heard great things and seen the folks waiting outside. Reservations are just not common on the Cape. This past Sunday @ 7:30 it looked more inviting. Two Morgans parked out front sealed the deal to stop. We were seated immediately and enjoyed an amazing dinner. The food is fabulous and the service is exceptional. Dropped $60 on lunch while enduring glacial service and bland food. I wrote to the owner a few days later and he replied that we should have said something while were there. But here's the thing, we were on vacation and I felt we had devoted enough time and resources for a simple lunch and never considered hanging around after our extended lunch to complain. He replied by saying we were out of luck and he wouldn't consider comping our 60-dollar lunch. In my opinion there are a lot of other places that appreciate your business on the Cape, like Macs Seafood. So why spend your money at a place where the owner doesn't care if you have a bad meal/service or not? read more

One star for very poor service! Very disappointed! One of our party ordered dessert! The others got coffee. We waited and waited for dessert, thinking it was never arriving... we were just about resigned to the fact, the waitress forgot and it wasn't coming, and it did! If you want fish that's fresh, expertly prepared and perfectly cut, look no further than this place. I mean it. You don't need to go anywhere else - this is the best seafood restaurant on Cape Cod. I mean that, too. Brewster Fish House does things a little differently. They're willing to experiment, and serve fare that you don't find in other restaurants on the Cape. It's not a tourist trap - in fact, as a Cape Codder, I can tell you that this is the least touristy eatery on the Cape, yet it may be one of the most successful, as this is where the locals go when we want something special. Locals will accept the sometimes two-hour wait in order to get a table -- it's totally worth it, kids. You can grab a drink at the bar, park your tush on a bench outside and relax until a table in the small, cozy restaurant opens up. No matter what you do, get the oysters to start. I don't care if its two or two-dozen, just do it. They prepare them simply, perfectly shelled and ice-cold. Yum. I've had everything from tuna to monk fish to bass in this joint, and each one has been as elegant as it was delicious. Each dish, from appetizer through the desserts, is thoughtful and scrumptious. The wine list is impressive, and the bartenders know how to pour a drink. The service is top-notch, as are the conditions of the space. The downside is, they don't take reservations and parking can be a pain. However, it's totally worth the wait, so order a drink at the bar and whet that appetite! read more

The food was 'good'. Nothing special. They do a good job of mixing up the dishes, but get a bit too fancy for their own good in regards to the sides/preparation. It is not kid friendly at all. They do not have a kids menu, nor ice cream other than peach. Our kids pallets aren't that sophisticated. They prefer the basic chocolate or vanilla. My wife and I have dined in many fine east coast restaurants from the vineyard to Nantucket to Montauk. We stopped here for lunch while driving through the area, and while we were satisfied with our food, the three-star rating is for the wholly lackluster, slow and vacant servers. It was clear that the LAST thing these two women serving the diners wanted to be doing was waiting tables. Perhaps it was post-season fatigue; perhaps they just don't like people. Regardless, I would NEVER go back given how unwelcoming they were. Perhaps it was the fact that they tried to seat every new party at the VERY worst table in the place, situated within inches of the bathroom door. The waitress/hostess did this THREE times (first to us, then to other parties coming in after us) while we were there even though there were other, more pleasant tables open. Personal revenge? Perhaps it was the fact that we waited over 40 minutes for a tuna burger and fries with no apology for the wait. Or perhaps it was the snooty, surly attitude that we faced every time we asked for anything. The food was acceptable. I had a tuna burger. While the burger was TINY (1/2 the diameter of the bun), it was tasty. It was a lunch special ($12 for the burger and a nice portion of sweet potato fries and a tasty kale cole slaw). I wouldn't rave about it; but we had a decent meal and it wasn't overly expensive. But given the service and the vast array of great places to eat on the Cape (even off-season), we won't be back. read more

The food is generally just OK with a few glimmers of great if you are lucky enough to pick correctly. The calamari app is really great, lightly battered and perfectly cooked. They seem to across the board do well with their scallop dishes. I ordered the shrimp this weekend and, frankly, it was kind of nasty. Flavors were totally unexpected and not in a good way. Not one of the 4 people I was dining with liked it. The fluke was bland and boring. The tuna special was a good version of fairly routine stuff. The lemon blueberry tart was very nice. Stopped in for an early lunch today. Food was very good as usual. We both had the flounder special and it is was light and delicious. Their fish chowder, in my opinion, is the best on the Cape and I have always looked forward to it every time I have come in the past. The young waitress was very sweet and attentive, when serving us. I truly thought this was going to be a usual great meal here, but it turned bad almost immediately. I would have given the restaurant a 5 star review for the food if it were not for the way the staff was behaving. The restaurant was slow when we arrived and their was only two other guests in the restaurant other than us. The staff took this as an opportunity to act like they were the only ones in the restaurant..... laughing very loudly in an incredible uncouth manner. One was discussing how she is cheating on her boyfriend since he cheated on her. Thanks! Good to know. The older, middle aged one, was simply telling stories and laughing in an unbelievably loud manner as if she was home in her den watching a sit com with no-one else around. NON STOP annoying laughter. Like the most annoying exagerated laugh you could conjure up. The bartender was speaking at the top of his voice about nonsense to the waiters non-stop then kept breaking into singing along with the soundtrack that was playing (in this case Stevie Wonder). And ah, let's just say Stevie Wonder? He isn't. It was like a sketch from SNL about bad waiters at a restaurant. This went on the entire time we ate lunch. They had a truly remarkable inability to understand that there were paying guests in the restaurant trying to enjoy their meal and being totally distracted by their gossip and karaoke. It was amazing and so disappointing since it was supposed to be a special lunch on a beautiful sunny Sunday in June (June 3rd to be exact in case the owner cares). The chef or owner should train that staff. His food is very good, but this team ruins the entire experience. Trust me. We're easy-going people who have worked as waiters ourselves in the past. No restaurant I worked at allowed that kind of behavior. This was not normal. I had never had this experience at this restaurant prior. I have no idea what happened to this place. Such a bummer. Tip to staff: If you need to gossip and sing, go into the kitchen. Don't do it all on the dining room floor where your paying customers are trying to enjoy their meal. I had lunch here today as a total fluke. We were trying to go to JT's, but after driving all the way up to the Cape it was closed. Our driving efforts were not in vain, because lunch was delicious. I had a crab cake sandwich. My sandwich was fresh and perfectly cooked. The cole slaw that came with it was delicious. The fries were extra hot, and while not the highlight of the meal, were still pretty tasty. Lunch was reasonable for the Cape. My sandwich was $11. Just had dinner here last night and it was wonderful. The place is family owned and operated and I was actually surprised to find a restaurant of this caliber here in Brewster. Earlier in the week we were in Boston and dined at L'Espalier and Menton and the courses we had here were on par with those restaurants. The place is small and can get crowded very quickly. There is a full bar there but also small. We were seated next to the ladies bathroom, which would not have been my choice but it wasn't that bad. At least no foul odors came from there, which would have spoiled our meal. The chef really pays attention to the dishes and presentation, which I admire. Dishes were not cheap, but well worth it. We would gladly come back next time we are back in town. read more

My husband and I have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world, and I can count on my hand the most memorable meals, including two at Jean-Georges in NYC and the Bahamas. Our meal this past New Year's Eve at the Brewster Fish House is on that small list of Most Memorable - and rivals those two J-G meals! Everything on the prix-fixe menu looked amazing, but I have gluten and dairy allergies, so when I phoned to make our reservation, and asked which options would work best for me, the chef explained that they may not be able to be so accommodating, because it is difficult to make so many meals while bringing elegance and taste on a special night. We understood, and I braced myself for, perhaps a night with Benadryl. Yet, when we arrived we were greeted with such warmth by Katie and the staff! And while sipping our glass of bubbly, we realized that there were options for me in every course. EVERYTHING was AMAZING! The cured egg yolk! The beans wrapped in cabbage! The haddock! The SCALLOPS!!!!! And that coconut sorbet dessert!!!!! Seriously, and my husband's steak - YUM! I did not need an antihistamine, but I'm craving that dinner so much since ... One of the best meals I've had on the cape. The clam chowder is to die for. The best chowder I've ever had. It's not your typically chowder - it's very thin, creamy and really, really rich. Almost more like a delicate soup of some sort. It's fabulous!!! I'd seriously drive all the way back from Boston to the cape just for this chowder. Fish was fabulous, extremely fresh and cooked perfectly!!. Portions were smaller than I like (much like those served at very gourmet restaurants). I will echo earlier complains about the veggie option. A person in our party ordered the veggie dish. It was small and every skimpy on the veggies. More like a fancy appetizer creation with some kind of cheese (maybe cream cheese, or goat cheese...don't remember) in the center and a very, very thin layer of veggies on the outside. Very pretty on the plate but definitely not enough to fill you up & more filling then actual veggies. ;( Still, I'd will definitely be back for the fabulous fish & chowder. A friend and were staying nearby, and I found this place on Yelp. It is a small, cozy place with a bar and hightop tables on one side, and regular seating in the main dining room. Service was impeccable, and the owner/manager immediately tended to us and got us some drinks. The menu is not huge, but there is enough on it to find something interesting. The food was very well-prepared and delicious. My only complaint was that the portion size should have been bigger for the money, and I left a little hungry. Have you ever gone to a place for years and years and then suddenly things same to change? I have gone to this small, cozy restaurant many times. There are limited tables and they don't take reservations. Food has previously been creative and delicious. Today the service was so slow and unfriendly, I was quite surprised. To have to ask the wait staff if you can order seemed strange. The bread I asked for was stale, hard as rock. The menus selections seemed uninspired. Lots of cod and flounder. With all the great fish this summer, Swordfish, Bass, Clams, & Lobster, this was the best they could come up with? This is always one of my favorite restaurants and of course, I will try it again. I understand that these restaurants are doing their best with covid restrictions but people pay good money to eat there. It's not like they're giving the food away. Let's start with the craft drinks - they were good. When we asked for bread, we were told that, due to covid, there would not be bread served. Really? Not even rolls upon request? We found this odd. The appetizers - the crab rangoon and the calamari, were very scant. The calamari was pale, underseasoned, and lacking in flavor and quantity. The crab rangoon and sauce were very tasty though there could have been a few more. As far as the dinners, we had a variety of entrees that were all tasty but literally not enough to feed a small child. When I have to come home to cook after leaving a restaurant it's not a good sign. Btw I am a fit and healthy woman w/a good appetite but not overweight in case you're wondering. My recommendation would be to amp up portions, offer bread upon request, and this restaurant goes from 3 to 5 stars. We were here last year and enjoyed our dining experience. Great fish, seafood a beautiful menu as well as excellent service. Downgraded this year from a 4 star to a two for poor food quality and execution. We ordered two Bass specials, salmon and the lobster. The sea bass was over done and we were also served the thin tail pieces that should go into a chowder or some other application. The salmon was also over cooked. Lobster was excellent. Guests report the frisée salad a bit over dressed. The calamari appetizer was also over cooked, a simple dish and a red flag to signal weather the kitchen is worth it's salt. Lauren the waitperson was perfect and prompt. Sorry we talked the place up so much to our friends. Not sure about another chance for this one. No reservations, maybe not worth the wait. read more

Went here with my partner during an extended vacation during which we stayed in Brewster for three nights. The inn keeper suggested the Fish House and since - if you're by the sea - you need to have fish... The restaurant looks rather unassuming from the outside but the number of cars parked in the lot were saying something. The place was packed/cramped and there is no way to call ahead to make reservations. However we did not have to wait long (with a nice drink) and the wait was worth it. The food was - there is nothing more to say- impeccable! It was one of the best fish restaurants I've ever been to and the service was just great! read more

The ambiance and service in here is commensurate with the price. Great location with plenty of parking. Always full, and there seems to be just enough room to accommodate everyone. Food quality overall is better than good. The chef here knows his consumer base and the dishes are good. Not really a classy place, but the clientele here is definitely the dressy conservative vacation home out of state Cape Codder, judging by the license plates in the parking lot (majority were NY, PA, CT, IL, NJ). Ingredients are always very fresh and organic. The fish is really top notch quality as are the locally grown veggies. I have three very small gripes about our meal that prevented me from giving this place a 4 or 5 star rating. 1. The portions are really small in conjunction with the price point of each dish. It would take me two whole entrees and one appetizer to feel full here. 2. The asparagus that was in the cod dish that I ordered wasn't fully cooked. The tips tasted fine, but the chef or cook included the bottoms and they were inedible. Either cook the asparagus longer, or only use 6 tips instead of the entire spear. For the price and portion of this dish, this shouldn't be an issue. 3. The Cape Cod Beach Blonde Ale draft that I ordered was sour. It must have either been the bottom of the barrel, or they did not properly refrigerate the keg after it was delivered from the distributor. I would definitely come back again, but I really wish they could increase the portion size of the dinner entrees. I am a fit average sized 190 pound guy and I shouldn't have to order two plates to feel full. read more

The Chowder... oh man, the Chowder... Creamy, Rich, Flavorful. I've never had anything like it. And its not just heavy cream, there's something about the texture that is pure heaven. This bowl didn't last long, I wish it wasn't as shallow... I wanted a gallon of this stuff. The Oyster Po Boy... OH BOY! The deep fried oysters were HUGE and plentiful! My husband and I just spent a few days on the Cape and we enjoyed a delicious meal at Brewster Fish House. We didn't have reservations, but we were able to sit at a high top table at the bar. the food was wonderful. We shared the fried calamari as an appetizer and for our entrees, I had a rib eye steak with mashed potatoes and my sweetheart had salmon. The calamari was delicious and the lemon aioli was great too. Also, the portion size was very generous. My steak was one of the most tender steaks I have ever had and the potatoes were super flavorful. My husband loved his salmon, too. The only drawback to this restaurant is the size. It is very small and feels a bit cramped. Especially in the entry way, which leaves virtually no room for more than two guests to wait for a table. However, the food and service were top notch, which is really what matters! read more
