Came here for dinner on Wednesday night with a party of 7 (some of which are very picky). The ambiance was nice, busy, lively conversations and big screen tvs throughout restaurant. We were able to make a reservation a few hours before we got there and were seated right away. Our table ordered a variety of dishes; for apps we had calamari and chicken wings (crispy and with a delish garlic/parmesan/cilantro sauce) that we also dipped our table bread in. For entrees, we had the star of the show, the mocajete dish, steak tips, chicken caprese dish, chicken parm dishes, scallops w/pasta and salmon and risotto dishes. All were delicious and devoured. The service was good and tap water taste a little different, not sure if that's a Cape Cod thing. The entrees did seem to take a little long to come out and not all at the same time. This spot is near where I sometimes stay on the Cape, so I've been here a couple of times. It's fine, but I think there are better options around. I did takeout here when it was still the pandemic days. The lobster and clams linguine was generously portioned with a full lobster, lots of clams, and an abundance of linguini. The fisherman's stew was chock full of fish and other seafood, with a flavorful and briny broth. I came here for in-person dining recently and it seemed like the portions were smaller than before I suppose it's shrinkflation but not the most pleasant. The shrimp scampi was fine but nothing to write home about. I think the best part was the pasta, which was homemade. The seafood bowl special had scallops on the half-shell but they were definitely bay scallops, which was disappointing. Service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant is not a bad choice but if you're here on vacay, you can (and should) find something better. read more

Bread not served till halfway into meal after asking twice. Lobster w garlic and saffron sauce and boiled lobster way overcooked with tough stringy meat and very small lobster. Fried calamari overcooked and greasy. Push fancy strong drinks to numb people to bad food. Only had sprite, ginger ale and cranberry juice for kids, which they have for mixing drinks. read more

Cape Cod's food scene seems to be a lot like Nantucket's (though with some fast food places present -- so perhaps more like Martha's Vineyard). Food seems lean either very casual (read: hot dogs, lobster rolls, burgers) or very upscale. The Island Blue Crab is one of those few in-between places. On a Monday night in August, the restaurant was bustling, but happily, we did not have to wait to be seated. Our server, Obrien, was gracious and lovely and detail oriented, present but never obtrusive. Food was a mixed bag. Half a dozen oysters -- described as "local" on the menu, but not Wellfleet -- came at more than $3 a pop, which is probably on the spendier side. Or maybe I'm a cheapskate and overly used to the magnificent oyster happy hours we have in NYC. :) But they were small (probably a year old at most), fresh, briny as is typical of east coast oysters, well shucked. These were served with lemon and standard issue cocktail sauce from a jar -- perfect with just the lemon in my book. A lobster summer roll was mixed. As an Asian food snot, I will honestly say that the flavors were delicious, at least when we asked for it without the aioli, and there was a generous amount of lobster included, even if it was unevenly distributed. Structurally, however, the "roll" was a bit of a fail. When you make summer rolls, you have to seal the rice wrapper closed with a few drops of water on a brush or finger, not unlike how you seal old school envelopes. (Well, I guess some people used to lick those envelopes closed. Don't do that with a summer roll.) Blue Crab's "roll" was more like a heap of salad-like ingredients gently blanketed with a soft and pliant rice wrapper. Delicious, but definitively not a roll. The kiddo enjoyed his jerk chicken, which was competent, if not 100% authentic. It was juicy and moist -- but skinless breast meat is too lean to get the real jerk treatment and survive to tell the tale. It came with some utilitarian broccoli and rice. The Pardner got the steak tips, which came with the same utilitarian broccoli and rice. I heard no complaints from his quarters, so am assuming they were fine. :) Inexpensive but banal wines by the glass. We wouldn't mind coming back, but also wouldn't cry if we couldn't. Not destination dining for us. read more

First time here while visiting the cape. This use to be a Mexican restaurant. They have a couple of Mexican dishes. They made Paella with seafood. The dish includes lobster, scallops, mussels, clams, calamari, and shrimp. The sauce was so tasty. The service was great! Nice casual setting, we sat in a booth. THE SERVICE IS AMAZING! We came in right before closing time and they treated us with the utmost respect. Took their time with us and were just so kind. Even though they were closing, waited for us to be ready to leave before taking away dishes, and even kept refilling our glasses of water and asked if we wanted more drinks. We all loved the food. We have been going to Blue Crab for years - always enjoyed. Last night, totally different experience. We were seated and it was 20 min until anyone came to check on us - very rude when he did! No hello, no nothing!! Another 40 min until food came out, that was adequate at best. It was SO loud in there that we couldn't hear each other speak! This unassuming restaurant on 6A in Brewster exceeded our expectations and we ended up eating there 3 times in 2 weeks. Plenty of parking. Decor is pretty basic Cape Cod although there are some colors with a Latin flair. Several large screen TVs with sports on but volume low or off do not intrusive. Bar area was pretty busy in a good way. Menu is nicely varied and includes many dishes with either Italian or Mexican flair. Lobster ravioli was excellent and has more lobster meat than any other I've ever tried. Lobster quesadilla was excellent as were the lobster spring rolls. Island scallops were delish and served w steamed rice and fresh broccoli which isn't soggy. Caesar salads were fresh and crisp. We asked for lite on the dressing after first time was a little heavy on it for our taste. Cocktails were very well made and refreshing. Particularly pleasant and attentive service on all 3 nights we dined there. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a delicious meal with great service and reasonable prices. read more

We've been to The Island Blue Crab 3 times during the past year. I have a couple of observations. This restaurant is busy and seems to be doing quite well. Generally speaking the food is quite good. On our first visit last summer, we had a reservation for 6, but we still had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. The other two times we only waited about 5 minutes for our table. This restaurant is noisy. Not the place to go for a romantic dinner or if you plan to have serious conversation. We prefer to sit in a booth, but were only able to get one once. The other times we were sat at a noisy table more in the middle. On this last visit my wife and I ordered Martinis and they were quite good. My wife ordered salmon piccata and liked it a lot. I ordered scallops florentine. The flavors in my dish were very good, but I was disappointed with the scallops. There were exactly 4 sea scallops of medium to small size. I live on Cape Cod and buy my scallops at the dock in Harwich, Chatham, or at the farmer's market in Orleans on Saturday. I know that large, beautiful, local sea scallops are readily available on Cape Cod. The scallops in my dish unfortunately were not those. That was disappointing. So my summary is mostly good food and drink, at pretty noisy restaurant. read more

We dined at The Island Blue Crab last night and had a great experience. The food was great but the service was even better! We knew very little about this restaurant before dining. We ordered drinks and wings appetizers to start. Husband loves wings and usually I don't but these were excellent! Bread served was tasty! Entrees...we ordered the special Trout and the Molcajete. The Molcajete is the best thing I have had on Cape this week!! They had two options and I selected the menu item which had chicken, beef and shrimp. It is served with homemade tortilla and rice. The rice with the sauce was off the charts good. The shrimp in this was AMAZING!! They had a seafood version on special which looked great at the next table. The staff is truly amazing here! All of them!! Our server especially was fantastic but you could see the genuine care and attention they all gave to the customers. After a short hike and visit to a beautiful beach in Brewster, we were now ready for dinner. But where to go? We wanted seafood but nothing fancy. After a couple of false starts, we ended up here. Good choice! The place was pretty busy when we arrived, so always a good sign. We elected to sit at a high top in the bar area, and the bar tender came around to serve us. He acted like he knew us, which was nice. Pretty sure he didn't because it was our first time here. But no matter, nice to be recognized. My wife and I each ordered a beer. We then ordered a calamari appetizer to split. And unbeknownst to us, a seamen's stew to split as well. Glad we did because the seamen's stew was huge. Plenty for the two of us. We found a restaurant on Cape Cod that's open past 9 PM! We walked in at 9:10 pm and it was a vibrant hopping intimate little place. My husband had fish and chips, he loved it! I had lobster ravioli - it was the best lobster ravioli I have ever had! Our waitress was friendly attentive, and quick. I didn't bring my phone but was able to remember the following: Chardonnay or Malbec, or cold drinks Apps such as clam chowder, salad, measles, crab cake or calamari Dessert vanilla ice cream Main - clam Florentine, short ribs, seafood pasta I opted for take out and got scallop spinach pasta and short ribs in gingery sauce. I expected the ribs to be boned in but they were in brisket form. Flavorful but gamey for me. Loved the fresh made pasta and I finally found a place that makes saucy white sauce!
