I've looked at a couple of reviews for this place and really people, are you really weirded out that they fry stuff in fat? Do us all a favor and go to Europe and try some proper chips that are fried in fatty fatty goodness. They're awesome. By no means healthy or good for you but once in a while, they totally hit the spot. I digress though! So this review is for the shop which I've been into a couple of times. The latest visit was about a week ago. The girls working behind the counter are really sweet and helpful. The little old British lady cracked me up! Another girl who had glasses (I think she told me her name but I forgot it!) took me around the entire tea section and talked about which teas she likes and made a lot of good recommendations. I ended up spedning way more than I thought I was going to. Their prices are a bit steep but considering that this stuff has come thousands of miles, ten bucks for a box of Yorkshire Gold Tea ain't so bad. Very nice little tea for a quick afternoon pick-me-up and excellent fish and chips (although I am spoiled by having had tea at the White Heather in Victoria and Queen Mary's n Seattle and nothing compares to high tea there). Good selection of British pastries; a Cornish pastie, a meat pie and an onion-and-cheese puff were all very tasty as a treat to myself whilst DH was off on a hiking trip over the weekend. From the Yelp reviews, it sounds like they have great food, which is what brought me, my husband, and my sister here. Unfortunately, we left before we were even seated due to horrible and rude customer service. We came pretty early, and we noticed that only 2 or 3 tables were taken up, so we waited at the lobby area to be seated. Couple minutes pass, and no one has greeted us or come to us. We thought maybe we should seat ourselves??? But, we decided to just wait a bit more (even though the waitress has clearly seen all three of us just standing there by now). 5 minutes has passed and the lady at the cash register and the waitress walking around has made eye contact will all of us by now and nothing. Not even a "Hello, we'll be right with you" or a "Seat yourselves". At this point, I was getting really frustrated, so I called out to one of them and all the older lady said was, "Did you sign yourself in?" There was no sign that said to sign in, which I told her so. Apparently the white piece of paper on a side table (did not have anything that said sign in list on it) was the sign in sheet. So, of course, I go to it, and say "There's no pen here." The lady loudly sighs and shoves a pen at me. Really? So, I was fed up at this point and left. I don't think I'll ever come back despite the good food reviews. It was that horrible of an experience. read more

This review is for the restaurant not the store which has nice selection and even though some items are far cheaper in world market. Other items in the store are hard to find anywhere else and the tea they stock is some of the best. I still love the pastries and the pasties in the store, but the restaurant has taken a massive dive. They have a younger wait staff, but they were as slow as before (we were the only table). That part never bothered me before, because I loved the fish and chips they had before. It used to be proper pub fare chips. The chips were larger hand cut looking with a soft center and a light crispy outside. This time they seemed just like fries. The tea was one pot filled with just two bags, and when they did a refill they used the same bags...that is just an insult to the crown! One does not order ones tea to get water with a little color to it. But that was not the truly bad part, the fish was horrid. They always had a nice crispy light batter that reminded me of the UK. This time they had some soft fluffy breaded coating that got soggy... like the ones you get from frozen fried fish in the store. I had one piece and gave the other one to someone else along with most of the fries. The bill was about 40 dollars and I had very little to eat. I hate to say I will no longer be going here, I will try the Scottish pub in Ballard now as I have heard some good things about that (scotch eggs). As for this place I would ask them to look at a better high tea menu, Victoria BC has a far better ones they can look at. Stick to traditional food, with more selection, maybe get a real British trained chef in the kitchen. They could also clean the place up a bit more, and for the love of the queen no watery tea...you make me want to Brexit when you serve it. read more

Wow. What happened to this place? The food seems to have gone steadily downhill. The fish and chips were always blah but now they are inedible. Bland, slimy, and cut in rectangles. And do stay away from the "lobster bisque" - it was salty, pink (dye), and devoid of any lobster or any kind of seafood or vegetable. When I spotted a clump, I thought it was a piece of fish. Sadly, it was a clump of flour. It was basically pink, salty bechamel. And the most heartbreaking part? All the bland food cost a whopping $62 without tax. Let me say first, I'm non UK (unfortunately) citizen and no pro in UK food. But! London is my favorite city in the worlds... i used to visit it several times a year and i'm a huge fan of the British charm. British Pantry is one of these places that when you step in, you feel transferred into another era/place. And i am thankful for them for giving me this experience every time i step in for the past 3 years. We probably all gathered here for a food review and i'm mumbling here about UK and "Era" :)) I'll try to make it short: 1. I didn't like fish and chips before i tried it here! (a Must!!!) 2. Thought i love the taste of the burgers around... this is the only one that doesn't give me heartburn or the "heavy feel" after the dinner (not to mentioned that when i order chips they actually bring me chips (fries) and not Pringles)!!!! 3. If i'd have an uncle or and aunt in UK and i went visit them - i think that's how the food would taste. So Thank you British Pantry for being my British aunt and making those incredible home meals that my belly really can call "comfort food". P.S The only reason i gave 4 stars is because i think we all should visit this place more often so they can afford a small renovation. read more

I felt the customer service here was rude. By the time we were sat, which was several minutes after we arrived, we attempted to order breakfast. The waitress even brought breakfast to the table next to us, but promptly told us that the kitchen wasn't serving breakfast anymore. I really only wanted a "full english" breakfast, and the lunch menu is not exciting. The differentiators separating it from American food were boring. Cucumber finger sandwiches (yawn). I would wager this establishment would sell more in a weekend than what it makes during the week if it simply extended breakfast until 2:30pm by offering what the other competitive restaurants offer - BRUNCH. read more

Sure this place is nostalgic and a bit stereotypical, but it also warm and inviting. Things are a bit on the pricey side even when you factor in shipping and markup. The pastry case holds many tempting treats. The chicken curry pasty, sausage roll, and bakewell tarts are my favorites. If you have a chance to sit and eat in the restaurant try the apple blackberry tart with warm custard. Sooo good! read more

I've come here every once in a while since I was a child and I enjoy the food every time! Unfortunately, I have noticed that unless you're a regular and the older servers know who you are, sometimes you won't be served promptly or very well. It's kind of annoying. My husband and I went there for Sunday lunch this past week and it took forever to get out of there while we watched a couple seated after us and served by our waitress come in, get served and get out. I think we were there for a full half hour more than they were! And all because they appeared to be regulars! So I'm not in there every week like they are, but does that really mean I have to be served with a cold shoulder? On the other hand, the food never disappoints! read more

I ADORE the British Pantry! They have the best little bakery and all the food is delicious, especially the shortbread cookies and meat pies. The service is wonderful too, everyone always has a smile and is willing to help. Even though they are about an hour away, I always try to visit when I am near Redmond, or have some time on my hands. I suggested that they post that they ONLY take cash and credit cards on their website, but after a couple of months, I see that it hasn't been accomplished. This place is a disaster of a restaraunt. Sat ourselves in this place and i was in a group of 4 and 2 of us ordered their pub burgers, 1 with a salad w/ranch and the other with fries with no tomato or onions. We recieved our food and the burger with the salad got blue cheese on it instead of ranch and the other came with onions and tomatos on it with a plain salad on the plate. We sent them back and the 1 burger with the salad finally got the right dressing on it and the other burger came back with no tomatos or onions however they didn't put any sauce on it so i sent it back again and got it back with everything on the side so i could make the burger myself WTF????? Service was slow as we were there for over an hour and only got my soda refilled once due to the server never checking up on us. We finally got the bill and they tried charging 1 of the burgers for cheese and bacon which wasn't on the burger, and throughout the whole time not 1 apology from the server but she did say "At least you will have something to write about" so she was right about that as here i am writing to all of you about this terrible place. They also do not serve fresh food as my friends salmon was clearly a cut of frozen salmon as well as the burgers and for a place that charges as much as they do 1 would think the ingredients would be fresh. I will never go back as this place is a joke unless you like overpayng for frozen food and getting crappy service. read more

I like this British place. I like the house tea and the chips here. I feel that the food is of high quality here compared to other American restaurant at the same level that I've been to. The menu also contains traditional British dishes. The servers are quite nice - They give you a feel of British people (e.g. polite and quiet). read more

The food in the restaurant is quite good, and the grocery store has wonderful, authentic British treats, however the service is atrocious due to the unfriendliness and inflexibility of most of the staff. My family's favorite meal there is breakfast, which they advertise as serving until noon. However, the last time we were there, we arrived at 11:50 and were told that the kitchen had already "changed over" and were no longer serving breakfast. We observed that other customers were already seated and were also told that breakfast was unavailable, they too were not pleased. read more

While I don't like they don't make reservations for large groups for afternoon tea (and could improve on their communication skills), my group had a lovely time and enjoyed the food. Doesn't have the frills of the teas I'm used to (tiered trays, selection of sandwiches), the décor was very nice and the servers were pleasant. I would go and have tea with their meat pies instead of the High Tea menu item. Maybe I'll try the quiche. read more

Just this summer I had family visit from England and my spouse and they found this place and came home spending a couple hundred dollars in the shop which they knew I'd love. It's all goof stuff they post to me or I order online. The extremely special thing was their bakery; the pork pies, sausage rolls and tarts are so very good. The pasties I was not as enthused about, bit doughy and dry. On a more recent trip my spouse dropped in and bought out their remaining stock of sausage rolls. As I do with many things, they freeze well.. I like knowing I have some on hand to share with others and that I don't overdo! I only wish I had known about The British Pantry years ago. Looking forward to stopping in for a meal. Re: pricing: Prices will be higher, it's imported. It has to be sourced, shipped, duty paid, etc., also, the costs of running a business. We are long time customers and have always enjoyed this place for a nice week night stop for some reliably good comfort food. I'm sorry to say that the food seems to have taken a down turn.My go to order of Shepherd's Pie last time was obviously made by some one new because the carrots which were always sliced on the diagonal were now diced, the potatoes on top were really dry and almost burned. The last 2 orders of chicken with sherried cream sauce had such a minimal amount of sauce as to be practically non-existent and there was no hint of the sherry. They take the al-dente vegetable idea to the extreme.Tonight the prime rib which is a regular Friday night special was so tough that a table of 4 sent theirs back and ordered something else. We decided against it.The fries which are usually blistering hot were not and we must have gotten the end of the bag because they were mostly little end pieces instead of the nice big fat fries that are so delicious. All of this along with the big jump in prices in the bakery is leaving us feeling really let down. I hope the owner takes these comments to heart as we would hate to give up this charming spot as a our go to alternative for a reliably good dinner. read more

have taken my daughter there several times for the afternoon tea, which she really loved. We were spending mother and daughter time shopping and called the Pantry to see if we could get their afternoon tea at 2:10 pm, it starts at 2:30, We were told there would be no problem. We arrived at 2:10 and waited for the waitress to come over. We explained that we were told that my daughter could get the tea early, This waitress was very rude, she said no that was impossible, that they have rules and that it could not be served till 2:30. She wouldn't even listen to what we had to say she just kept saying they have their regulations and that we could go to another restaurant and they would say the same. I have never been so insulted in a restaurant. All the afternoon tea consisted of was cucumber sandwiches and some pastries with tea, really they couldn't treat their customers better and make a cucumber sandwich 20 minutes early. One of our favorites. The food is good, and most of the time downright tasty. Our favorite thing is the atmosphere. There is no better place to catch up over a cup of tea and a Lancashire pasty. The wood is dark with green trim. Pictures, plates, and other decor reminding of England line the walls. The tables are set up to encourage a cozy chat over a cup of tea with milk. The Lancashire is a favorite, gravy in the middle making it somehow 3x as delicious as the ones you can buy in the case in the store part. Other pastries are also good. Don't neglect the sausage roll, even if you've tried them elsewhere and found them greasy. These have a taste that may start you singing "God Save the Queen." Try the plowman's, or King of cheese, for a feel of the old country. The salmon is good, bangers and mash tasty, leek soup palate pleasing, salad w/ blue cheese welcoming, and desserts all good, from the sherry trifle to the custard-covered pies. The only thing I have not loved was the sandwich- cheese, cucumbers, tomato, all on bland bread that blends with bland cheese. Avoid that one, unless they change their bread or cheese. I'm afraid I've neglected the fish and chips over the years, so I can't say how they are. Cleanse your palate with the house tea. Let it steep, pour, and then add milk for a smooth taste that must be addictive, or is it the atmosphere? We usually buy pastries from the case to freeze for later. Oh, yes! This place makes a rainy day feel charming, just by association. read more
