Our family loves ordering from this restaurant. It's become a go-to for more unique flavors and higher quality dishes offered in the surrounding neighborhoods. A bit more pricey than you may find at your local quick-serve Chinese American restaurant, but in my opinion much better food. Been wanting to come to restaurant for a while and finally checked it out this past weekend since I was craving soup dumplings, pan fried pork buns. We also ordered sticky rice. Everything was well made, tasted fresh and yummy. Not salty at all which I like bc I find most places can be salty. Service was good. Food came rather quick and was pretty busy when we went. The food was kind of cold, I am not sure if that was intentional or not. The dumplings and buns were definitely the way to go, get the crystal shrimp if you're not allergic. The bao buns had a sauce that was a bit overbearing, I would have preferred smeared on the inside instead of right on top because it over powered some really well cooked duck. This review is for their breakfast addition. Foods are great, especially their new lunch addition of the Bund Burger and their Bund chicken umami, must try. Staff are great and always nice. Price is very very affordable if you are only looking for simple breakfast with good portion and good taste. They have a lot of unique breakfast that kind of different with typical dinner such as breakfast club sandwich, breakfast tacos and their breakfast waffle bowl. They give free coffee with some of their special platter. If you prefer a high end breakfast with higher price, there is dinner bar down the block, but I preferred to dine in the Bund. read more

The first time I ate here was around the time they first opened and they hosted a Yelp event here. I was impressed then and have eaten takeout from here multiple times since. They specialize in Shanghainese cuisine though they originally carried more unique dishes, they have adapted over the years to accommodate the non-Chinese clientele in the area. Can't blame'em since they gotta make what sells, though a bit of a shame since it seems the chef, restaurant and Chinese cuisine have so much to showcase outside of the more generic staples* that are popular in the US. That being said I can recommend the following: - Shanghainese lions head meatballs $17.95: they make them large and fluffy here, goes great with rice. They took it off the menu for a couple years though brought them back in the last year and a half. - flounder filets in wine sauce $15.95: tender white fish with woodear mushrooms, a little heavy on the sauce thickener though overall tasty and fish never tastes fishy. - "crispy" deep fried flounder $23.95: kinda an American-Chinese take on battered and fried fish, tasty and a large serving that could feed 3-4. Not actually crispy if you take it to go since it's covered in sweet and sour sauce. - kungpao chicken $13.95: a decent preparation here, fair amount of diced chicken, savory with a hint of spicy. - sautéed spinach w/garlic $12.50 or sautéed water spinach with garlic $13.50: simple leafy veggies cooked well. Overall the serving sizes are reasonable for the price and area. This place is amazing. I come here often with my fiance and his family. Everything I have tried is good. You really can't go wrong. If you like spicy try the dry spicy hot pot. It's mouth numbing in the best way. Cumin beef is also amazing. Alway go for the scallion pancake with beef brisket. Also who doesn't love a soup dumpling? I used to love this place some time ago. It was one of the best Chinese reataurant in the neighborhood. After the chef was changed- the place got so much worse. I ordered crispy chicken today, which used to be great before. Now its not even possible to eat it- so disgusting. I wish old chef would return or somebody else was hired who can cook better. I ordered food delivery for a set time, and the delivery came right on time. The deliveryman was friendly, and it's nice to have such reliable and quick delivery service. It's always so nice to enjoy this food in the comfort of my home. I finally ordered the frozen Pork Dumplings and frozen Crystal Shrimp Dumplings. The pork dumplings had thick skin but was stuffed full of filling. Shrimp dumplings are my favorite order at dim sum, and I have a specific preferred flavor when it comes to crystal shrimp dumplings. These had that exact kind of flavor, so I was happy to find a delivery place that has good ones. There are whole shrimp pieces with skin that wasn't too thick or thin. The Pan Fried Pork Soup Dumplings were just as good as they were last time, but the Pan Fried Pork Buns surprisingly had just as much soup -- or was it just juiciness? -- as the Pan Fried Pork Soup Dumplings. I'm happy to say there is now a consistency with the food we order. Note that we aren't fans of cilantro and I can't tolerate spicy. Here are our go-to recommendations: 1. Xiao long bao: Pork, crab and pork, and shrimp soup dumplings. The wrapper isn't too thick. The filling and soup are very tasty. The vinegar/soy/ginger sauce is perfect. We've had these delivered to places close to Russel Sage and to Halsey MS, and they arrive mostly intact and hot to eat! 2. Pan fried pork buns: crispy on the bottom, pillowy soft with each bite, and tasty filling. 3. Steamed shrimp and pork shumai 4. Peking duck bao/buns 5. Scallion pancakes with beef: my college teen's favorite along with crispy shredded beef 6. Crispy shredded beef or chicken. We like both, but prefer the beef. 7. Crispy flounder with sweet-and-sour sauce: Perfectly crispy. Would prefer sauce on the side. 8. Flounder about in sweet wine sauce: this is perfect on day when you don't want anything overpowering. It's flounder in a sea of white sauce eaten perfectly with rice. 9. Shredded pork with scallions 10. Sautéed water spinach with garlic: delicious! 11. We got their crabmeat & pork soup dumplings, chicken soup dumplings, Peking duck baos, scallion pancakes stuffed with beef brisket, water spinach with garlic, and beef rice cake. They also offer bubble tea, and my friend ordered a passion fruit bubble tea. We stopped in for a late lunch yesterday so there was only one other table of diners while we were there. Scallion Pancake W Beef - this is one of my fave things to get when it's on the menu, and they did a solid job. Satisfying crunch, didn't skimp on the meat, nicely packed together, and warm. Bund Pork Dumplings - good, especially for the area, and 100% authentic. No need to take a hike to Chinatown or Flushing to get your fix - you can come here and get quality soup dumplings. A great option if you live around the area. Double Cooked Pork** really enjoyed this - had a good amount of heat, and the pork slices were thin, tender, fatty, rich, and delicious. Decided to try a new place this week and stopped in this little restaurant. I typically don't see many Chinese restaurants in the area, but the food here was very authentic! The Ox Brisket and Beef Tripe is one of my favorite dishes to order in a chinese restaurant and they definitely carried this one out well. It was super flavorful with a nice kick to it. We also ordered the Scallion Pancake with Beef (not pictured) and it was nice and crispy. The beef with bean curd and watercress were both pretty standard - nothing super outstanding about it. The soup dumplings were pretty good as well - skin was thin, good amount of soup in the dumplings, and overall good flavor. The fish and tofu dish was probably the least impressive. I asked the staffer if this was the truly the item I ordered because of the lack of garlic flavor. She said it was. I pleasantly surprised by the tasty items he chose. Holy cow the spicy pepper chicken is no joke but the crispnesses of the chicken was spot on. Reminded me of Chicharrones. You'll l definitely need water with this dish. The chicken dumplings are yummy. The brown rice is nothing to write home about but it helped with the spicy pepper chicken. I couldn't get past the texture of the Wood Ears. They smelled heavenly but the texture was off putting. Chewy and crunchy. Very strange in my opinion. The soup dumplings are always very good, and if you pay cash, you can get a bonus soup dumpling order if you order over $50. My kids love the pan fried dumplings and really enjoy the soup dumplings too. They recently changed their online menu but the customer service and delivery are way above the other restaurants in the area. The flavor is memorable and very unique. Tons of menu options and I've had almost 30 different menu options and all of them had a great flavor and were delivered hot. Make sure to tip your driver! read more

The Bund would pass my parents' test. That is much more difficult than any assessment I, a native born American, would impose. I refrain from saying "authentic," because that term is rightly contested and fails to account for dynamism of cuisine. Instead, I will report that my late mother would recognize the dishes as those she could copy, and if my father were still traveling I would bring him here. I am tempted to return, and I likely will. The only reason I would not is my one friend in New York City and I are trying restaurants, and to proceed with discipline we have an informal guideline (among friends, one ought not impose formal rules) about no return visits to the same venue. But for that self-imposed exile, this would rank at the top of the list. Mind you, contrary to the reputation of the international metropolis the cuisine represents and the name alludes to, Shanghai, the Bund is unassuming, perfectly suitable for a family gathering or a first date with someone who you need to impress by absurd spending but who would appreciate the fine cuisine at hand. We had lunch. We had only four dishes, which meant ample leftovers for two people. Those items were flawless: the fish with sour cabbage, the lion's head meatballs (more savory than my mother made them, which is by no means a bad thing), string beans, and zhong zhi. The service was attentive, including the warning the zhong zhi would take a bit of time, which means it is fresh (likely from a stockpile that is frozen). The sour was sour -- and spicy. That is an acquired taste. The meatballs were rich. The string beans were classic. The zhong zhi were savory, the brown rice filled with delicacies including the egg (salted duck!). We found the Bund through the NY Times. Nora Lum, aka Awkwafina, recommended it. If you do not put stock in social media, or me, and why would you, take it from Nora. More power to her. Go. I first heard about The Bund about three years ago when I attended a Yelp Elite event here. I remembered the food was pretty delicious. I came back again with other Yelp Elite friends a few weeks later that time and I haven't had a chance to dine-in since then. With the COVID-19 pandemic still being active, I decided to order takeout recently via DoorDash. I wasn't disappointed with my takeout orders. I definitely recommend the Shanghainese rice cake with pork and flounder filets with fried tofu. Their lunch specials (~$9.95) aren't a bad deal either. We went on a Friday night, no reservations needed and plenty of spread out seating available. We also brought our own bottle of wine for only a $5 cork fee. The food!! We were two very hungry folks. We started with three appetizers and one entree, then ordered a second entree to feel satisfied and completely full. We started with the crab meat soup dumplings: they were absolute perfection, thin skin, the broth was potent in flavor. Scallion pancake with beef brisket: the phyllo was crispy and chewy and the beef taste fresh and nicely seasoned. Pecking duck Bao: very delicious, we loved the sauce over the duck. Our 1st entree: Pork sautéed Udon: colorful dish with veggies and plenty of pork, the udons were nice and chewy. Our second entree was the Bund Fried Rice: this was our favorite! Average Shanghainese food, but they curiously market themselves in the broader category of Chinese cuisine on their windows. I'm guessing it's to attract a wider audience and to get those in here that are not familiar with just Shanghainese food, but either way, there's plenty of improvements that can be made. Recently, I came here for an early dinner on a Saturday evening at 6pm and the restaurant surprisingly already had plenty of customers inside. The menu was pretty big for a Shanghainese restaurant, or at least compared to other Shanghainese restaurants that we've been to. There were the usual cold appetizers, regular appetizers, soup dumplings and meat dishes (pork, beef, chicken and seafood). In addition, there were also vegetables, casserole specials, fried rice, noodles, rice cakes and much more. Like I said, the menu was something I could have sat there reading for an hour. However, we sort of just ordered our usual Shanghainese favorites. To keep it simple we ordered a few appetizers, a carb and a bigger casserole type dish. We started off with the spungy gluten (aka Kao Fu) and drunken chicken. The spungy gluten, as disgusting as that always sounds, wasn't bad. Compared to other Shanghainese restaurants it was decent. Good flavor, good texture and good serving size. As for the drunken chicken, freaking delicious. It was one of the best drunken chicken dishes I had in a while. At first, we thought the wine on the chicken was going to be very strong because the aroma really kicked in quick when the dish was set on our table. However, the strength of the wine on the chicken was jusssst right. Although it smelled strong, in actuality, it wasn't when eating the chicken and the chicken was perfectly flavored. For our non-appetizers, we ordered the Bund crab meat pork soup dumplings, pan fried pork buns, Shanghainese sautéed seafood udon noodles and flounder fillet with tofu casserole to share. The soup dumplings were on the sweet side, so we weren't huge fans of it. Texture-wise, I liked the thickness of the skin, the soup was hot and I thought the pork meatball was put together well, but there was a sweetness to the soup that we weren't used to. It definitely needed to be saltier. The pan fried pork buns weren't the greatest in that it was very dry inside where the meatball resided. I would have preferred more sauce inside that could have made the bun more moist. The udon noodles were average and nothing that we were overly impressed about. To be honest, there's not much that can be done for this dish, but when it says seafood, I would expect seafood, which it was overly lacking. Finally, the flounder fillet with tuna lacked flavor. It was sizzling in a clay pot when it came out, which was music to our ears, but there wasn't a whole lot to it. The sauce was bland, which made everything in there taste the same. The service was good throughout and the waiters/waitresses were friendly, so I hate to say the following. The Bund makes for an average local spot, but compared to the restaurants in Flushing, it has a lot of work to do to catch up. The food is by no means terrible, but some of the food can use better flavors and a bit more salt, which is something I typically don't say, but it's definitely something that needs to be mentioned here.
