I recently moved to this neighborhood and try this restaurant. I ordered a Peking duck and two another side dish for my dinner. This is the worst restaurant i have ever seen. I am sure there will not be a worse restaurant than this in the future. What i had is definitely not Chinese food. It was even NOT food. It was garbage. The duck is not cheap. But it is little. I ordered half size but I do not believe half duck is so little. It was also over burnt like charcoal. I really doubt if my order is some left over from some other guests. The more ridiculous thing is the cucumber together with the duck is peel of cucumber(2nd photo, the green white thing is scallion. the green thing iis cucumber peel). They should change the name of the dish "Peking duck charcoal (leftover, with surprising cucumber peel)". I am writing this to tell you to avoid them. If you did not dine there, do not believe their fake photos. The awful experience there will ruin your whole day. My photo is the real experience. This is the only Shanghai restaurant in Forest Hills. Unlike the ones in Flushing, this one does it with a modern twist. When I entered, there were two parties inside. Several others were here to do takeout. There was Chinese music playing in the background and a TV showing ESPN basketball. The items here can be expensive. The food took some time to make. We were drawn to The Bund Chinese Cuisine by a recent New York Times article about the surge of quality Chinese restaurants in Forest Hills, NY. Food: OK (3 of 5). The Bund was a decent experience. We had: - Bund Pork Soup Dumplings (福園小籠包) - Crab Meat Pork Soup Dumplings (蟹粉小籠包) - Pan Fried Pork Buns (福園生煎包) - Chicken with Eggplant (茄子雞) We thought the soup dumplings were good, but not great. The soup dumplings here use a regular (thicker) dumpling skin that render the dumplings less susceptible to breakage. The filling in the pork soup dumplings and pan fried pork buns are similar -- flavorful and juicy, but it seemed to have an extra sharpness or tingle that wore out its welcome after a few helpings. This could be MSG, but I'm not sure. The crab meat pork soup dumplings were similar to the pork soup dumplings, but with the addition of some crab meat. The crab meat flavor was less noticeable here than at other establishments. The Chicken with Eggplant was well-executed and very flavorful. It's not a brand new restaurant but it's relatively new. A few years I think. I've only had take out from here so I can really only comment on the food. I guess it would be an Asian Fusion place? The menu is mainly Chinese but they also have Thai and Vietnamese. Impressive selection and I will definitely be back to try different items on the menu. The delivery was quick and I was also impressed with the way it was packed. The Pho was packed vegetables separate from the noodles and the broth. I was also a little nervous about getting the soup dumplings but they packed that well too. Food was delicious and it definitely had a more authentic taste than some other places. So the service was on point and so was the food. My friend recommended this place so I went to try their food. We ordered the steamed chicken with bund special sauce, bund special jumbo shrimp dish with noodles, mapo tofu with rice. The chicken wasnt heated up, but it was on the colder side. But the sauce was pretty good. I was impressed, it reminded me of Hainese chicken that you get at certain Chinese restaurants. Great appetizer! The bund jumbo shrimp dish was alright, it wasn't easy to pick off the shrimp shells with sauce on top of it. The mapo tofu with rice was good too. It had the right amount of spice to it. I was craving Shanghainese food and ordered delivery here for the first time. The food came quicker than expected (which is always a plus) and was still very warm (another plus). I ordered vegetable dumplings, mapo tofu, and eggplant with garlic. Sometimes restaurants will neglect their vegetable dumplings and make them bland and thick skinned. This wasn't the case with these ones. The skin was pretty thin and the filling was flavorful and generous. Overall a very solid dumpling. Next, I tried the eggplant with garlic, with all of its oily goodness. It was flavorful and had a very mild spiciness. I always enjoy eggplant prepared like this, so it's hard to critique. The mapo tofu was a treat as well. I got it mild, but I was still able to taste the citrus tones of the peppercorns. Both of these soupy/oily dishes with rice were very enjoyable. Came here for dinner 2 Sundays ago. Walked over in the blistering cold. Place was relatively empty but they seemed to have a decent amount of deliveries and take out orders. Service was pretty decent, granted there were only 4 tables and 2 waiters on staff and the boss/manager. The pork is really dry, definitely needs sauce. The soup dumplings flavor-wise were ok, the pork one tasted much better. The skin that they use is really thick though, great thing is you can just pick them up with your chopsticks, bad thing is they remind me of the pre-packaged frozen ones. The Shanghai Rice Cake with Chicken looked anemic but was surprisingly tasty. The Special Udon, House Special Tofu and Watercress with garlic were all good. The watercress however was actually water spinach, which I actually like better anyways. This place definitely has some pretty decent food. Look no further if you want to experience delicious Chinese cuisine. Walked in and sat down for an experience to end all in traditional shanghainese fare. Tony (our server) was fantastic, extremely friendly and patient when we made inquiries as to how dishes were prepared (100% service with a smile). The dishes came out promptly and the dining area is very comfortable. We ordered as appetizers: cucumber salad (with a whisper of garlic it was the perfect combo) and Peking duck bao was light and tasty. The main course we ordered: stir fried string beans (never ever have I had string beans that were prepared as superbly as these.... I loved the fact that many of them were actually seared). The braised pork hock (this is surely a meal for 2 people and perhaps even three can split) was bought out next. The pork was tender on the inside with a fantastically crunchy skin and lastly the bund special spicy shrimp. I was a bit reluctant to order the bund shrimp because I wasn't sure how shrimp and ground beef would work together...I'm elated I took a chance. This is from a while back, day before Christmas lunch. Well priced lunch specials with a bunch of food! For apps we got the scallion pancakes and pan fried pork buns, both of which were excellent. Lunch specials came with a soup and the hot and sour that I got was quality! My shrimp with broccoli was pretty average, good veggies and decent sauce but the shrimp were lacking. We also got matcha sesame balls as a treat to try something new. Pretty strong flavor of matcha but a really nice mix of crunch and doughiness from the ball! We ordered -Steamed Chicken with Bund sauce on the side -Salted Crispy Chicken -Wonton in Red Chili Sauce -Bund Pork Soup Dumplings The steamed chicken was a cold appetizer. The chicken was good and cooked just right. I think the bund sauce may just be dumpling sauce though. The wontons weren't too bad, but it's more like Wontons in hot oil than chili sauce. It was swimming in oil. As for the pork soup dumplings, they gave me just regular pork dumplings. When I told the waiter, he said that I ordered the wrong item instead of saying that they misunderstood my order. Funny enough, my friend and his family sat down by us 15 minutes after we ordered. And they gave him pork dumplings instead of soup dumplings too. I guess everyone's ordering wrong here according to the Bund's wait staff. Tldr; foods good, not amazing. This review is for a recent delivery order not a dine in experience. For delivery orders I will only give a max of 4 stars. I was pleasantly surprised that my order was delivered in about 30 minutes from placing my order, much faster than I had expected. My order included pork soup dumplings, pan fried pork soup dumplings, Peking duck buns and crispy duck with rice. The food was still hot when it arrived and the food had good flavors. My one issue was that the crispy duck was a bit on the dry side as if it were sitting under a heat lamp for too long, but otherwise good. I did order in the mid-afternoon so maybe if you order earlier the duck would be fresher and moister. Half star taken off for the slightly dry duck so actual overall rating is 3.5 stars. I order delivery 2 or 3 times a month and noticed that most deliveries arrive at my door without a doorbell ring or knock on my door so my food could be sitting outside my door for a while. However, this delivery person rang my doorbell and personally handed my food order to me. Not really a big deal but a nice courtesy that I appreciate but find less and less often these days. read more

It is all about The Bund! If I could eat Asian cuisine seven days a week, I would. Unfortunately, the there are a lot of not-so-great restaurants in NYC, especially when it comes to soup dumplings and Shanghainese cuisine. I'm not particularly big on cold appetizers. It's not our thing, but if you're going to go for it, then the cucumbers with garlic, the steamed chicken w. the Bund's special sauce or the spiced beef brisket are our faves. And, let's not forget the pan-friend dumplings! I am much more of a hot appetizer kind of guy. I always have the spring rolls. I could eat those every day, twice a day. The pork with pancake wraps, are yum-mmmmmmy! But, the favorite (and close to being tied for first with the spring rolls, is the wonton in chili sauce. The hubby love their soup dumplings. He searches far and wide to find places to get them. Too often, we are disappointed. But, not here. They are perfection. Me, I've been on a Asian noodle soup kick for awhile now. Most of 2017 was all about ramen. Then I somehow made the move to noodle soup. But, the Bund has transformed me into Shanghainese style noodle soup. My absolute favorite is the My favorite is the Shanghainese spicy pork noodle soup, extra spicy. The shredded beef with hot peppers was too woodsy tasting for me. But it was good, just not a favorite. The beef stew was good. What makes this place even better, and more appealing, is the service. They are friendly, knowledgeable and really on top of their game. The Bund serves amazing juicy crabmeat and pork soup dumplings! We went to the Bund because I was craving soup dumplings (XLB). Our first visit to the Bund was Yelp Event and the food was excellent. However, I was a bit apprehensive about the food quality outside of an Yelp event after skimming through the yelp reviews. I'm glad we went back! We ordered crabmeat and pork soup dumplings, stewed Shanghainese pork belly and crispy spare ribs. The soup dumplings were bursts of savory hot soup and nuggets of juicy crab with pork and pork filling. We loved it! The soup dumplings are as good as Shanghai Asian Manor or Kung Fu XLB. The pork belly was half fatty, sweet and tender. Some bits of the pork from the pork belly were a little dry but it was very flavorful. The spare ribs were tender ribs, deep fried. It was good, but I wished we had a sauce to go with it. We were so full from the soup dumplings, we ended up not finishing the pork belly or spare ribs. We will be back! The bund is okay......For authentic shanghainese food on queens boulevard this place does the job, they serve a wide variety of items here that most people would not know what to do with, but for most people who grew up with the stuff would squeal in delight that the items actually do pop up on the menu. I ordered the pork soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, pork buns, beef trip and beef slices, and got a complimentary egg roll for paying in cash. First thing is first stop serving that complimentary egg roll, although it was free and an incentive for a way to pay cash, because we all know how business can report everything and still make ends meet, it just takes away from the experience and leaves an incredibly bad afterthought of the food by serving people something of such low caliber. The egg roll tasted mushy and soft on the inside as well as tasting bland and flavorless, didn't need it and in my opinion detrimented my meal despite being free now that i got that out of the way, beef tripe and slice was dissapointed in didnt come in that delectable spicy sauce that it normally comes in, ask about it, and they came out with the sauce in a separate little dish, when asked why they do this they told me that they didn't want the spices to offput the palate of those who were sensitive to more traditional Chinese tastes......confused me as all hell since by my logic if someone is ordering tripe, chances are they probably aren't there to have their palate catered to, and are looking for a more authentic experience. The hot sauce was not all that great either btw pork bun was a complete ripoff. inredibly small and didnt really have the complexity of flavors that typical baos definitely a must skip Soup dumplings were really good, nothing spectacular, but definitely did the job if thats what you were hankering for. The soup was light yet rich, and the meat was juicy and tender, reminded me a bit of nan xiangs xiao long baos, only weird thing is that they serve it with white vinegar instead of the ginger-black-vinegar-soy sauce that i'm used so, sauce was more sour than what I'm used to, still very good regardless Ordered the pan fried dumplings thinking it was something else, but was pleasantly surprised by the order. the dumplings were filled to the brink with meat, and the condiment that they served it with which was a hearty sweet soy dipping sauce was a great addition, not a bad choice. all in all this place would have probably warranted 4 stars since the soup dumplings and other dumpling items were legit and the authenticity to a degree was spot on, but the tripe and beef, pork buns as well as the complimentary eggroll definitely took it down a peg read more

I was looking forward to a birthday celebration at The Bund. I wanted to test the restaurant out for some time as it is very local and had good reviews. So, my family trekked out in the freezing cold hoping it would live up to the reviews. I say it did. We started with Cold Noodles in Sesame Sauce. I can say it was the best I have ever had. It was not greasy and extremely flavorful. The noodles were cooked to perfection, a different kind than I am accustomed too. Definitely would have this again. We followed it up with Pork w. Shredded Vegetable and Bean Curd Soup . Wow! Silky tasty broth with sliced bean curd and slivers of pork. We all enjoyed the warmth after our walk. I really wanted to try the Soup Dumplings as I have never had that before. I must say it was a little tricky to eat but I definitely will try to perfect my style when I order this again and again. We had the pork ones which had just the right amount of ginger and broth inside. They do tend to be a little messy as the broth squirts out if you are too eager to eat them. Next time slow and steady! For our entrees we had Beef Lo Mein which was a little greasy and from what I sampled had very little beef. The veggies were cooked well and the flavors were good. Kung Po Chicken and Shrimp was next, not spicy as I had expected it to be. Liked this too. My daughter really wanted to try the Green Tea shrimp. Never had it, no idea what to expect. What could be bad. Not bad, interesting is more like it. The Shrimp still had their heads on and were in their shell. It was a little messy to eat as the sauce which was kind of sweet stuck to your fingers. I don't mind finger food but my husband is not a fan. We had to ask for more napkins and wet wipes after would have been nice. Service could have been a little friendlier. We had to ask for clean plates after the Sesame noodles so we would not have the sauce on our dumplings. We also had to ask for glasses of water. Ok, long story short: I want to give them three and a half stars, and normally I'd round down. The food is good, but the service is lacking. The servers are very nice, but seem to be a little oblivious. But for their effort and great attitudes I am going to round up on this one. So onto my actual review: I had heard some unfortunate things about this place, and the reviews were not coming back great, which delayed my initial visit. But as I walked by a couple of weeks ago, a sign was outside that read: "Soup dumplings!" Obviously I had to go check it out ASAP since this area could greatly benefit from having some yummy soup dumplings! The restaurant is new, so everything is clean and updated. The space is very clean and open, not crowded at all. There's plenty of parking on Queens Blvd or the north side. Also, it's literally right outside the 67th Rd train station (seriously, the closest soup dumpling spots are all in Flushing- far up Main St by car or bus, or downtown Main St by the 7 train). The first time, I went with the bf. We were greeted and seated immediately and the staff was very friendly, so I was optimistic despite reading reviews. They asked if we wanted tea or water, and took our orders (a main dish and rice, and two orders of soup dumplings). The food came pretty quickly, so that was nice- but our drinks never came, and they didn't give us the soup spoons for the dumplings. Unfortunately, we had to wave the staff down since they were not paying much attention to the dining area (it was about half full at this point). They apologized and brought us the drinks and the comically small, rounded bottom spoons. We proceeded to inhale the soup dumplings, which nice and porky, with a chewy skin. The main dish of chicken and broccoli (the bf's default choice) was decent, albeit pricey, but they got a pass. I immediately posted an image/tip on the place, that although the soup dumplings are good, the spoons were not. Within a couple of days, I saw a reply from the manager saying that they ordered new, larger spoons! Props to them for paying attention! I came back roughly a week later with some friends who apparently have been going every week. They explained to me all the improvements they noticed since the opening, so again I was optimistic. We were presented with menus and the staff was super friendly, as before. We placed our orders and the food came out pretty quick, considering they were about 75% full this time. They did indeed order new, larger, flat-bottomed soup spoons- which fit the soup dumplings quite nicely. I also think they improved the soup dumplings somehow- it was more flavorful this time, and my dinner party agreed. The larger spoons were very much appreciated all around! I have to mention I tried the pan fried pork buns, which are quite tasty as well. The food was actually pretty good, but we ran into some issues again: The staff forgot the rice we ordered. No big deal, but we had to ask for something we already asked for when we ordered, which annoys me. As we were paying, we needed to break two 20's- the cashier was very nice about this (some places are not). However, for two 20's, she returned to us only 30 in change. It took her all of half a moment to run after my friend and return to him... a five? I looked over and had to make him triple count and go back for the other missing five. The cashier was so nice about it all and apologized, but two mistakes in one transaction- I can't imagine this would be good for their business. Then, we had asked to split the bill- part in cash and part on the card. We asked the server to apply the cash, and put the rest on the card. He asked us to explain again, so we did. He returned the bill to us- with all the cash still in it, and the entire amount charged on the card. I feel like, if they didn't understand, they should have come back to us to confirm that it is ok to charge it all. Overall, the food is great- I mean, where else can you get soup dumplings around here? But, again, the staff is a little bit forgetful. They are all so nice and polite though. I'm not sure what the issue is here, but I really hope that with a few more weeks of experience, they will get the kinks out and service will tighten up. But honestly I would go back regularly just for the soup dumplings and pan fried pork buns. They were pretty damn good. read more

So I finally got around to going to the restaurant in person. The soup dumplings still has the best skin with a lot of juice but the more I eat it, the sweeter it's tasting. The sweet vinegar that is served with it only accentuates the sweetness. So last time, my complaint was that the pan fried dumplings we're sunken in but I thought that was due to having it delivered. However, that is not the case. It looks exactly the same when it was served to me in the restaurant but they were still really juicy. Unfortunately, the bottoms were burnt, border-lining inedible. I didn't feel like making an issue of it since our server was very polite but those buns should have never made it out of the kitchen. Just because you serve it burnt side down doesn't mean I'm not going to notice. And for what they charge for it, I find it unacceptable. Sautéed rice cakes we're OK, al dente, and the veggies were fresh but the pork had an aftertaste like meat starting to go bad. I also didn't like the Szechuan peppercorns that were added and I had to spit out. The shrimp with lobster sauce tasted good, shrimp was fresh, large and properly deveined but the sauce was a little runny. The actual breading for the squid was bland; the peppers and onion mixture that it came with had more flavor than the actual squid. Specs of pepper was no where to be found on the squid - ended up using the sauce from the 3-cups chicken to coat the squid Mapo Tofu: recommend; more of an orangey-red than actual red from the spice, but the flavor of this was good with a hint of the numbing sensation that mapo tofu is known for Shanghainese Sauteed Udon Noodle: 100% recommend, shareable, and very delicious. The plus here is that it is not dripping in grease (better than nan xiang's version which is essentially an oil bomb onto a plate) These 6 dishes, including tax and tip, came out to $17 per person which isn't a bad deal at all and we all left quite full. This restaurant has some hits and some misses in terms of their food, but overall I am happy with this place and will most likely return to try other things on the menu. In the Forest Hills area there is a shortage of good Chinese spots but I'm happy to see Chinese food slowly making their way into this neighborhood. read more

So yeah, ever heard of the Bund? No, not a bunch of German alcoholics debating Nietzsche. It's a Farsi term for an embankment. If you have ever been to Shanghai there is a shoreline along the Huang Pu river in the old city - the area formerly "leased" to the foreign powers, and that waterfront is called the Bund. Back in the 1920s and 30s this waterfront was the face of modern China dominated by foreign hotels, banks, trading houses, and it symbolized western opulence and shadiness. After the commie takeover in 1948 those waterfront properties were nationalized and turned into opulent office space for the local bigwigs. During the 90s the municipal government were tasked with making the city an economic powerhouse, and they developed the other side of the Bund. If you go to the Bund today the emphasis was not the historical facade behind you, but the gigantic skyscrapers on the opposite shore in the Pudong area. So, now that we defined what the namesake was supposed to be, what does that have to do with the restaurant? It serves the same purpose as the modern Bund, impressing the non-Chinese while giving history a precursory nod. Is this a Shanghaiese restaurant, or does it remind you of a fancy sit down version of your local takeout? Let's see. Broccoli beef? General Tso? Shrimp in lobster sauce? Mapo tofu? Those were given more menu space than the Shanghai classics. Judging by the clientele (only 40% Chinese), I would say that a majority of its business comes from takeouts off the co-op buildings on 108th street/Yellowstone Blvd. "But Kevin", Forest Hills is turning into a Chinatown of sorts, just look at all the Chinese in the area". Yes and no. The Chinese who end up buying co-ops in FoHi are professionals who wants to get away from the loud Fobbish roots of their dads, treating the area as stepping stones with the famously good school district before moving eventually to the suburbs (seriously, $2 million for a townhouse in FH is strictly in crack smoking territory, while 500k in Roslyn or Syosset is totally doable). We might want fish market sloppy seconds boiled in spicy slime once in a while, but we also want strict co-op boards, stink-free supermarkets, tree lined boulevards, French bakeries and a place to park our Lexus, so area restaurants better produce acceptable facsimiles when we have cravings. That's why we have places in the area like Spy-C for the hot goo addicts, East Ocean palace for the Cantonese steamed fish crowd, and this place for the Shanghai/Beijing folks. Their cooking might be described as "local utility" compared to joints in Flushing or Elmhurst, but not everyone wants to stomach traveling an extra 30-45 minutes for the sake of some malatang, dimsum or soup dumplings in Fobsville. Were the cooking at the Bund good? It was good-ish. The soup dumplings did not come with the obligatory ravioli-like thin stretchy skin (which is more of a Southern style done in HK/Taiwan) but were rather thicker and more bready (more accurate to the style served in Shanghai). They were decently juicy. The stir fried rice cakes were good-ish. The garlic shrimp were decent but tastes like something off a Cantonese banquet. It has some Shanghaiese classics but it's not entirely Shanghaiese. There are Chinese-American items alongside Szechuan and Cantonese classics mixed in, and yet the walls feature a large mural of Shanghai (and that city isn't as well known for localized fusion like Hong Kong). I am guessing this was done for the sake of serving the most possible customers. I would have no issue coming back if it wasn't for a single major problem - we ordered the pan fried buns...and they served us something that features crispy skin on the outside, and pork tartare on the inside - the fillings were still cool and raw. The waitstaff apologized profusely and got us a fresh order of fried buns (okay but not exemplary), it's still not something that you can excuse away or forget about. That's a cardinal sin of kitchen management here. I have cravings for Shanghaiese once in awhile, but I would jump on the Q46/44 bus for the places in Queensborough Hill, or jump on the Q65 bus at 169th street in Jamaica and hit You Garden at Kissena and Holly. That is not to say that the Bund is a terrible place to have a meal, but it'll be really tough for me to manage a revisit any time soon.
