    Garlic burger with fries
    Christina C.

We tried this location for the first time since moving back to the area in 13 years. It's mostly exactly how I remember it- with the addition of self service drink and order stations. It could use a deep clean/sanitization and repairs but for it having been here FOREVER, I'm pleasantly surprised. We ordered 4 meals- kids hot dog, kids cheeseburger, western burger, and garlic burger. The hot dog was sliced down the middle which was great for a 3 year old! She requested relish and ketchup and was very happy. They enjoy the apple sauce pouches and milk to drink. The kids cheeseburger is huge and really should be shared between the kids but they wanted two different things so we caved. Burger was a hit! The western burger was delicious with enough sauce. The chili was delicious and we added onions and oyster crackers which added to it. Very similar tasting to what I remember. The garlic burger was delicious and I enjoy their fries. I added extra sauce this time. I'd stick with just the regular. There wasn't added flavor, rather added mess. But there was nothing wrong with it. I get the soda system but the scanning thing is annoying. We did have to ask them for the kids meal milks, and the extra onion we paid for on the chili but it wasn't an issue. Definitely a nostalgic place with yummy burgers. We will come back for a treat. I'd say the one in Vero was friendlier but not because of anything negative.

Today i went to Steak 'n Shake and got a bacon double burger with a shake and fries. When i got back to my hotel getting ready to eat my food, i only had a top bun, lettuce, sauce and pickles. I drove back to get my order corrected by this point my shake melted. I gave an employee the box with the receipt on top of it. She looked inside and took the order back to be corrected and i asked for another shake. She asked "what's wrong with the shake" i said it was melted. I got my burger back and she brought me my shake in a glass, i let her know that the shake was to go and she said "oh im sorry" and i said "oh don't worry about it" Then another employee comes out with the female and has the shake and said "was there something wrong with the food" i said "it's been fixed already" she then proceeds to say "oh because she said you were being rude and she's a minor" i then asked "how was i being rude?" She responded "oh i don't know but she's a minor and we don't tolerate that" . This entire experience was extremely unprofessional.

This is what a new milkshake looks like. Your uncle and ruffus left his ice cream in a car for 3 hours.

Avoid this place like the plague. I ordered a chocolate milkshake with NO whip cream and NO cherry. They hand me the milkshake with whip cream AND cherry. I let them know I didn't order it this way. The person snatched the drink out of my hand. They scooped the whip cream out in front of me and hand me back this cup of disappointment. If you want a milkshake buy from a small local place who gives more of a crap as this place is equal to banta fodder. Disappointed doesn't even start to describe this cup of sadness. Avoid steak and shake on New Haven.

    A1, anyone?

We have been patrons of Steak 'n Shake for many, many years! In all that time, I regret to say this particular location is THE worst I've ever experienced while dining at any Steak 'n Shake restaurant. After reading the other reviewers comments, I concur that the problem HAS to be management related. My last two previous visits here were almost identical in the types of problems I'm going to write about here. Once inside, I had over a 5 minute wait to be acknowledged or even greeted, even though several servers saw me. They did nothing, as they walked right past me. I finally caught the attention of what I believe was the manager, in a pink shirt. From behind the register, he asked if I was being helped. I replied no and I've been standing here for quite a long time. He seated me. After being seated, I had another 5 minute wait. No one came to welcome me or to take my drink order. I had to catch the attention of a server that was sweeping. She walked towards the kitchen, with hardly a word to me and I could hear her tell someone I was waiting. At 11:30 pm, the place was not busy, only 7 small tables of people eating. 5 tables had not been bussed, plenty of soiled plates, glasses, napkins, etc. The floor, in general, was very messy, including an A1 bottle on it's side, strewn napkins, a partial hot dog, and scatterings of french fries. My two top table was very wobbly. There was a wad of napkins under one leg in an attempt to stabilize it, to no avail. Good thing I don't get seasick.. There was a big greasy spot on the seat, right where I was to be sitting. I had a server bring me some napkins and I wiped the seat clean. A young woman approached and announced she would be my server and would be taking care of me. Her name was Destiny. Once Destiny took over, things went well, surprisingly, since moments before I was ready to walk out! She took my drink and food orders promptly. She correctly brought out my drink and cup of chili first, as I requested. Then she delivered my burger and fries. The food was fairly typical of what you'd expect from ANY Steak 'n Shake. I had no issues with Destiny or my food. Destiny was the ONLY saving grace about this visit, as I was certainly ready to walk out before she took over. This situation really bothers me, for a whole lot of reasons. First, in January, I had occasion to write a stellar review of another Steak 'n Shake location, the store located in Trinity, Florida. I had a wonderful experience there and I wrote quite highly about it! That review is here on Yelp if you'd like to read it! And mainly because the problems at this Melbourne location appear to be ongoing, in spite of multiple complaints and issues from other patrons' reviews. It appears as nothing is being done to rectify the issues. In closing, I'm writing this unbiased and honest review in the hopes that my hometown's Steak 'n Shake can become The Best one around! And, after completing this review, I will be contacting the corporate headquarters, via the phone number listed on my receipt, to voice my concerns. Let's see if anything changes. I hope it does.

The shake came out first and it wowed me. My favorite part is how nice the waitress Donna.

The place so far is fantastic and the burger didn't even came out yet! The shake came out first and it wowed me. My favorite part is how nice the waitress Donna. She was extremely respectful and was ready to get us whatever we needed. She didn't even let us to get up to get our own ketch up. Nuff said.

So, my wife and I had decided to come here since we knew the dining room had finally opened and we were seriously craving a steak burger! (We aren't big fans of drive thrus) We had never been inside of this one and to our surprise we found this one didn't have a waitstaff that we were so accustomed to. It had kiosks to order from! Oh well, we placed our orders. I ordered a double cheese and bacon steak burger with everything, fries, and a bowl of chili, which are my favorites btw. The food order finally came and nothing was on an actual plate or bowl but nonetheless we proceeded to dig in! It just didn't taste the same for some reason. I don't know what's happened to this chain but I left a bit disappointed.

A little slice of Key West right here in Melbourne…read more Hemingway's Tavern absolutely knocked it out of the park. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere pulls you in. The place feels like a blend of an old Key West bar and a cozy island tavern, with warm wood, nautical touches, and Hemingway memorabilia everywhere you look. It has that relaxed island vibe where you immediately want to sit back, slow down, and enjoy the experience. The food was outstanding. We started with a couple small bites and everything came out hot and perfectly prepared. The croquetas were fantastic, crispy on the outside with a creamy, savory ham filling. The empanadas were golden and flaky with a rich filling and a great dipping sauce. For the main course I went with the Cuban sandwich, and it was excellent. Perfectly pressed bread with just the right crunch, stacked with pork, ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard. Exactly what you hope for when ordering a Cuban. Then came dessert, which completely stole the show. The sweet plantain bread pudding was incredible. Warm, rich, and topped with whipped cream and caramel drizzle. It's one of those desserts where you keep saying "just one more bite" until it's gone. I paired it with a café con leche, which was smooth, bold, and the perfect complement to the sweetness. The service was just as impressive. Friendly, attentive, and relaxed without hovering. Drinks stayed filled, food came out quickly, and the whole meal felt easy and enjoyable. Between the great food, welcoming service, and the unique island tavern atmosphere, Hemingway's is easily one of the best dining spots in the area. If you're looking for a place with real character and fantastic food, this one is absolutely worth the visit. We'll definitely be back.

**INITIAL REVIEW**…read more Out of all the restaurants still in business in the Melbourne/Palm Bay area of the Space Coast, the one that has truly lasted the test of time is The Burger Inn. Located on US-1, The Burger Inn is a testament to the city's history as the restaurant was first founded back in 1952. That was a time when Melbourne was the eastern point for cattle herding in Central Florida. US-1 was still a dirt road back then. As a matter of fact, The Burger Inn is one of the five-oldest restaurants still in business in Brevard County. By age, it is the second-youngest (Dixie Crossroads in Titusville, FL is younger while Ashley's, Lone Cabbage Fish Camp, and the Old Fish House Bar & Grille are older). The age The Burger Inn shows is more a testament to its delightfully tacky charm more so than be dated. In short, their age equates to experience and wisdom that still makes them a popular choice amongst restaurant-goers anywhere, both locals and tourists alike. The Burger Inn is located on the eastside of US-1, just a little ways north of the Eau Gallie Art District, but just a little ways south of the Big Orange roadside attraction. Take note that the entrance into The Burger Inn is a "right turn only," so patrons going south will need to turn in at the light before or after The Burger Inn and take the residential roads to it. The Burger Inn, as mentioned earlier, is delightfully tacky in its charm. It has the updated design of a 1960s drive-thru diner with its bright colors of the time. Think of a lot of red and yellow, neon lights, and black-and-white checker floors. If it further helps, think of movies like Grease. The majority of seating is outdoors with stone chairs and tables which were famously used in old-school garden parks of the 1970s with their tile mosaic designs. The seating is shaded and have roll-down canvas covers to block sunlight and wind just in case. The bar area is still intact with all the old-school cookery right in front of you. But take note people were "smaller" back then so if you are bigger or taller person, sitting at the bar will be uncomfortable. This is a burger dive bar so most of your food will be of that preference. But unlike other places, they still place precedence on their classic burgers, sides, and milkshakes. You can truly attest to the rest of their menu if their basics are delicious, and I will say their regular cheeseburger, fries, and shake are more than good, but have that satisfaction from eating a good ole' fast food meal back when such was done with actual care. That doesn't mean The Burger Inn has not kept with the times. They have updated their menu to include present day offerings such as chili-cheese fries, onion rings, mozerella cheese sticks, and much more. Finally on the food, they do have a challenge in which you eat a 10-patty cheeseburger, a large order of chili-cheese fries, and a 32 oz. shake in less than 30 minutes, you will get a free t-shirt and your meal is free. If you fail, you pay $40 for the attempt (which is not bad for a price if you think about it). Actually, everything on their menu is priced decently. A burger is about $5, which is fair given inflation, but worth it when you are eating a wholesome old-fashioned burger. Probably the only Issue worth addressing is the restroom. Remember how I said the bar seems to be made for people at a time when they were smaller. The same goes for the restroom. It is literally only a single unisex room that somehow is smaller than the space in a portable potty. The toilet literally runs under the sink. Talk about a tight squeeze. Despite that minute details, I have never been disappointed eating here at The Burger Inn. They've always been consistent with their food, especially during a time when specialty groups seem to naysay on what we can or cannot eat. Ergo, I am giving them five-out-of-five stars. Definitely give The Burger Inn a chance.
