Experience: we had some gift cards so we decided to go try this place. I think I had some years ago, but it was long enough ago that I don't remember what the food is like. Service: It was a Sunday about 11:30... we hit the drive through. Anthony was very patient with us making some ordering mistakes. He was so very kind and polite. Food: Everyone raved about the milkshakes immediately. Also, everyone gave thumbs up for the fries too. They were crispy and thin yet still soft and chewy on the inside. This place used to be so much better. The staff is mostly nonexistent and when you do interact with them, they are completely rude. Things usually take forever to come out whether you're inside or outside and the fact that a classic style diner has no servers anymore and nothing but self service kiosks and the occasional rude stare from somebody in the back playing on their phone is disgusting. We tried this location for the first time since moving back to the area in 13 years. It's mostly exactly how I remember it- with the addition of self service drink and order stations. It could use a deep clean/sanitization and repairs but for it having been here FOREVER, I'm pleasantly surprised. We ordered 4 meals- kids hot dog, kids cheeseburger, western burger, and garlic burger. The hot dog was sliced down the middle which was great for a 3 year old! She requested relish and ketchup and was very happy. They enjoy the apple sauce pouches and milk to drink. The kids cheeseburger is huge and really should be shared between the kids but they wanted two different things so we caved. Burger was a hit! The western burger was delicious with enough sauce. The chili was delicious and we added onions and oyster crackers which added to it. Very similar tasting to what I remember. The garlic burger was delicious and I enjoy their fries. I added extra sauce this time. I'd stick with just the regular. There wasn't added flavor, rather added mess. But there was nothing wrong with it. I get the soda system but the scanning thing is annoying. We did have to ask them for the kids meal milks, and the extra onion we paid for on the chili but it wasn't an issue. I ordered online and got some of the worst service ever. I ordered just a burger and drink and came in 15 minutes later. My order was ready and on the counter. I waited for service. It was busy but there were certain workers just moseying. No host was working either. I tried to grab the attention of anyone and got one teenager who gave me a filthy side eye and walked away when I asked for my food nicely. In fact almost everyone in that place looked 16. No service, use the machine to order & pay. Very confusing. Not user friendly. No employees greeted us. Another customer helped us order. When food was ready, we had to go retrieve it. Today i went to Steak 'n Shake and got a bacon double burger with a shake and fries. When i got back to my hotel getting ready to eat my food, i only had a top bun, lettuce, sauce and pickles. I drove back to get my order corrected by this point my shake melted. I gave an employee the box with the receipt on top of it. She looked inside and took the order back to be corrected and i asked for another shake. She asked "what's wrong with the shake" i said it was melted. I got my burger back and she brought me my shake in a glass, i let her know that the shake was to go and she said "oh im sorry" and i said "oh don't worry about it" Then another employee comes out with the female and has the shake and said "was there something wrong with the food" i said "it's been fixed already" she then proceeds to say "oh because she said you were being rude and she's a minor" i then asked "how was i being rude?" I went to the Melbourne, FL Steak & Shake on US192. I ordered a grilled cheese combo with fries and small soda. The ordering screen processed my order and provided a receipt and scanning sheet to dispense the soda. Scanning never worked and a employee finally came out and said no sodas were available -- only HiC, lemonade and iced teas were available. I'm diabetic, so only choice was unsweetened tea. My order came out with fries that were stuck together badly or tangled. The grilled cheese was poorly assembled so a portion of the bread contained no cheese. Receipt available, if needed as proof. We have been patrons of Steak 'n Shake for many, many years! In all that time, I regret to say this particular location is THE worst I've ever experienced while dining at any Steak 'n Shake restaurant. After reading the other reviewers comments, I concur that the problem HAS to be management related. My last two previous visits here were almost identical in the types of problems I'm going to write about here. Once inside, I had over a 5 minute wait to be acknowledged or even greeted, even though several servers saw me. They did nothing, as they walked right past me. I finally caught the attention of what I believe was the manager, in a pink shirt. From behind the register, he asked if I was being helped. I replied no and I've been standing here for quite a long time. He seated me. After being seated, I had another 5 minute wait. No one came to welcome me or to take my drink order. I had to catch the attention of a server that was sweeping. She walked towards the kitchen, with hardly a word to me and I could hear her tell someone I was waiting. At 11:30 pm, the place was not busy, only 7 small tables of people eating. 5 tables had not been bussed, plenty of soiled plates, glasses, napkins, etc. The floor, in general, was very messy, including an A1 bottle on it's side, strewn napkins, a partial hot dog, and scatterings of french fries. My two top table was very wobbly. There was a wad of napkins under one leg in an attempt to stabilize it, to no avail. Good thing I don't get seasick.. There was a big greasy spot on the seat, right where I was to be sitting. I had a server bring me some napkins and I wiped the seat clean. A young woman approached and announced she would be my server and would be taking care of me. Her name was Destiny. Once Destiny took over, things went well, surprisingly, since moments before I was ready to walk out! She took my drink and food orders promptly. She correctly brought out my drink and cup of chili first, as I requested. Then she delivered my burger and fries. The food was fairly typical of what you'd expect from ANY Steak 'n Shake. I had no issues with Destiny or my food. Destiny was the ONLY saving grace about this visit, as I was certainly ready to walk out before she took over. This situation really bothers me, for a whole lot of reasons. First, in January, I had occasion to write a stellar review of another Steak 'n Shake location, the store located in Trinity, Florida. I had a wonderful experience there and I wrote quite highly about it! That review is here on Yelp if you'd like to read it! And mainly because the problems at this Melbourne location appear to be ongoing, in spite of multiple complaints and issues from other patrons' reviews. It appears as nothing is being done to rectify the issues. In closing, I'm writing this unbiased and honest review in the hopes that my hometown's Steak 'n Shake can become The Best one around! And, after completing this review, I will be contacting the corporate headquarters, via the phone number listed on my receipt, to voice my concerns. Let's see if anything changes. I remember my first steak-burger with my grandfather when I was 7. He told me about when his dad took him to steak n shakes. There was a car show, pretty girls and mint shakes. It was truly a lasting memory. My recent Grubhub order from this location almost erased that memory completely. The story starts 30 mins after I finished consuming the meal...I'm watching a Real Housewives marathon and all of a sudden Stabbing pains Cold sweats Nausea For the next 30 minutes I lay there trying to convince myself everything is fine (idk why!?). Finally I ran to sit on the toilet where I was surprised with pure liquid. For about 10 mins. Despite everything that happened, I experienced little relief. This must've been something I ate yesterday. Not Steak 'n Shake. I went back to bed because I just couldn't sit there anymore. Then about 5 mins later I'm running back to the toilet for a repeat. This time, about 10 mins in, still very little relief what with the stabbing pains still in full swing, an overwhelming feeling of nausea forces me to reactively grab the garbage can and spew my guts into it. There I was, sitting on the throne, garbage can that's filled to the brim in hand, finally feeling slightly better, in complete awe of what had just happened and the sheer amount of what was coming out of me. THIS cannot be Steak 'n Shake's fault. Can it? No. I thought it was finally over. I called the front desk (oh yea, I was in town on business, staying at the Hilton) for help. They sent housekeeping up with a replacement bin. Thankfully so because after falling asleep for about an hour or 2, I was awoken suddenly, when out of pure muscle memory my body lunges onto the floor, hands and knees, over the bin that housekeeping had brought me, and I convulsed the entire contents into it. I was again in awe at the amount that had forced itself out of me. The gift shop was open as I went to buy some water and poweraid (idk why they just didn't have Gatorade) and I slowly replace the lost liquids. By this point it was 4am and figured I could get a solid 2hrs of good sleep. I lay down in the fetal position and pass out. My alarm goes off at 6am and I stand up. SOMEHOW I AM FEELING WORSE. I have no idea how. My colleagues are waiting for me in the lobby as I struggle to shower and brush my teeth for the 55th time and get dressed. I was dizzy, slow and dazed. It was time for round 3. I causally walk over to the throne, because I'm obviously out of trash bins, and kneel down and it goes off without I hitch. Again in complete amazement at HOW MUCH vomit had come out of me. BUT, I FINALLY FELT BETTER. HURRAH!! At this point, I'm STILL sympathizing towards Steak 'n Shake. It wasn't until I had to explain to my colleagues and my client WHY I was late that they told me it was food poisoning. (We aren't big fans of drive thrus) We had never been inside of this one and to our surprise we found this one didn't have a waitstaff that we were so accustomed to. It had kiosks to order from! Here in Melbourne, there are very limited options when it comes to where we can eat after leaving late night movies, strip clubs, and house parties. Omitting the scams known as bottle bars, I would say there are only three places people can eat late at night. One of them is Steak n' Shake and there are two locations I know of. However, the one that gets frequented the most since it is in the heart of Melbourne is located on 192 right across from Melbourne Square Mall. That location has been there forever and though it goes through seasons of phenomenal awesomeness and epic loads of fail, it is generally a more-than-decent place to eat. Starting with the decor, it is what anyone who has stepped into a Steak n' Shake would expect: classic diner. Upon entering, you can see some of wear and tear, surefire signs of aging which calls for an upholstery upgrade or at least change. Thankfully, the place is always clean or as clean as it can be. Also, this location is like any other Steak n' Shake when it comes to its hours: open 24 hours a day. Personally for me, I like to go either breakfast hours (8 a.m. to 10 a.m.) or club closing hours (midnight to 3 a.m.). It usually doesn't get packed during those times. Food is the same as it always is but depending on the time you eat it and who cooks it, it will either be more than okay to WTF. I usually order from the under $4 menu (which is a lie after tax) and to me, the Taco Salad and Chili Mac Supreme are my go-to's. They never fail. However, whenever I become brave and venture past my comfort zone ordering the "burger of the month," I can either be very surprised or very disappointed. The time I went, there was this super cheesy burger in which the cheese just oozed out of it. I get it and it had only sliced cheese. That my friends is false advertising. :( Ultimately, when I take in everything, Steak n' Shake is really not that bad. I consider it an option whenever I am out. It however doesn't stand out compared to other Steak n' Shake restaurants I've been to across Florida (possibly across the nation). Now the Steak n' Shake at Viera, THAT is a Steak n' Shake that Melbourne's store should live up to. Too bad it is out of the way for me. :P read more

This was my 2nd visit to a Steak 'n Shake establishment. So I don't have much sample size to go by but what I've had, has been very good. I believe the 1st time was a sirloin burger w/ everything and those thin shoe string fries I loved growing up. I also remember it being really good and inexpensive. I like that this place is no fills straight to the point with their menu. This visit I had the Frisco Burger on sourdough bread with fries. I asked them to add lettuce and tomato because it seemed so boring and the fact that the bread looked like regular white sliced, I'm glad I did. I didn't love this burger and wouldn't order it again as there are so many tastier options, but it was not bad at all. I felt like living a bit dangerously that day so I ordered the plain vanilla milkshake (I'm a simple guy!). I save one star reviews for a place that makes me sick or is so disappointing there is nothing redeemable about the place. Steaknshake has removed everything that I go in for. Except the shakes, those are still good but the portion is about 20% less than I remember. They have used Covid as an excuse to remove all table service and make you order from a kiosk and pick up your food. My cheese fries didn't even have warm cheese sauce, it just comes cold in tubs. The place is clean, the shakes are good and the food isn't horrible but there isn't anything at steaknshake I cant get better through a drive thru at one of burger chains. This place deserves to go out of business. I feel bad for the few employees that are still working. read more

Over the years, the restaurants in general have gone down hill and a lot of my favorite items have disappeared... then today at this location, my family was served burgers that we're not even sure were safe to eat. Did not taste like meat at all. We didn't even finish our food and threw it away. In addition, our order was not fully correct. Today was the third time I've been to this location in the past six months or so and three strikes and you're definitely out. I won't be back for a good long while. Today my Frisco melt sandwich is barely toasted, the bread one top to one bottom. The meat tastes extremely salty it's literally just a disgusting ball of grease. You could ring the grease out of the bread even though the bread is barely toasted. The last time I went it was a similar situation but the patties weren't even inside the bread they were like hanging out of the bread and the sauce was everywhere in the wrapper. Drove through the day before the tropical storm and they seemed very put out that they had to actually work. The place had 3 cars outside, so it's not like they were too busy, just apathetic. The chunks of onion on my sandwich were the size of my pinkie, my bacon was just about raw and the burger patty was in crumbled pieces. Had to go back as they totally forgot the bacon on my daughters sandwich and I showed my sandwich and how the raw the bacon was, but they were wholly unmoved and just gave my daughter two pieces for her sandwich. I get that there are a lot of dishonest people out there that would do that; but don't act like you saw something that didn't happen, 'cause that didn't happen. When I'm out partying late night and I feel hungry (let's be honest, we're all friends here, I just need something to soak up the alcohol), this is my go to place. The food is standard for what you'd find at any Steak 'n Shake and it's just as greasy as any other Steak 'n Shake (but that's good, we're soaking up alcohol, remember). The milkshakes are good, again standard for what you'd find at any Steak 'n Shake. Unfortunately the service has been hit or miss, sometimes more miss. I'll provide details below... Although most of my dining in experience has been decent, in one instance it wasn't so. After about 5 minutes from being seated, I noticed a table with guests who arrived after me got their drinks another table was about to be service (who also got there after me). I informed the waitress that I arrived before the other two groups an no one's been to my table. Her response, "That's not my section". She didn't even offer to find the waitress for my section. On several occasions, my drive-thru order was incorrect. Unfortunately I didn't notice this until I got home. Sure one could say why didn't I check my order being driving off. Some sandwiches look the same when wrapped up and it's difficult to tell late at night in a car. Placing a takeout order at the bar has been the only way to get a to-go order correct every time.
