After calling a few restaurants in old town about food preparation for nut allergies, the person who answered the phone at the Burger Stand assured us our food would be prepared safely. we arrived to a dead restaurant and thought we had the wrong place -- the place was completely empty, that should've been our clue! Once we went inside, two people were behind the bar, we approached them and they seemed annoyed at us showing up. The young woman told us to order at the bar and pay. She was curt, short, and rushed us through our order. Her main interest was to upsell our order and explain that the last screen was for her tip. We added fries and I gave a tip. Our order came to $60+ We sat outside to an empty restaurant and eventually, the same two people brought our food with the same enthusiasm of a funeral procession. My teenage sons were equally incredulous at the service. The food was mid for the price but the service just killed the whole experience. We would have been better off ordering and getting our food directly from the kitchen. The back space has dim lighting with lots of picnic benches and tables and even a bar outside. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Green Chile Burger, and instead of a bun, I had mine with a caesar salad, which you can do with any of the salads. They also have a great list of local beers/taps that switch out daily. The burgers were awesome! Our burgers were very juicy, perfectly cooked to a medium-rare as requested, and the melted cheese with the green chiles were so tasty. The green chiles had a good amount of spice, too, which I loved. My caesar salad with was also very good, with the spicy croutons and creamy, lemon dressing. Our only regret is that we didn't get fries, since they have a lot of housemade sauces and dips that you can help yourself to, including an avocado cilantro aioli! Although we didn't have many burgers while we were in New Mexico, I wouldn't be surprised if The Burger Stand was one of the best out there. The downside, though, is that the burger is fried and as a result has a washed-out, watery flavor. The sweet potato fries were tasty and the aioli sauce was a great compliment to the fries.
