We liked the atmosphere and the person working there was very friendly. We got some brisket and two sides. Unfortunately the brisket was not what I expected, it was too tough. I wish you could write a 6 star review! My wife and I had an unbelievable first time experience as we happened to pass this butcher shop on our way back from OO Denny Park. The owner Muhammad answered all of my wife's questions regarding gluten free and Celiac friendly products. He gave us a pound of short ribs for free out of the freezer for being first-time customers! He also charged us $4.99 a pound for grass-fed 90% 10% ground beef. While ringing it up, he actually charged us only $4 for each of those two pounds. He then weighed up 1.78 lb of fresh short ribs that he quoted us at $9.99 a pound and only charged us $10. He then had his co-worker in the back serve up 4.3 lbs of ready to eat ribs, soups, curry rice and beef stew samples for free! Holy crap! He has earned a customer FOR LIFE! Stopped by to try to find a good cut for partners bday steak. It was a bit limited when we went on a Sunday and it sounded like they maybe would have gotten more variety on wed or Thursday. But we tried the closest to recommend for a lean cut and ended with this sirloin cut. It was alright but didn't fit what my partner was looking for but really looking forward to trying other options next time. While I was there I got some of the beef ribs ($19 a pound) and they were delicious. Super tender and had a lovely smoked smell and flavor. The sauce was not as strong of a bbq flavor as I expected but honestly the meat was so goooood. That alone is enough for me to want to come back. Plus I think he gave me a little bit extra and that was super nice. All in all worth the visit and worth another. read more

Walking up to the place I was a bit skeptical at first. but once I walked in and was greeted by the friendly butcher. They have food cooked and ready to go or you can order a burger and they'll cook it with their fresh Kobe ground beef. Their produce is fresh and local. I have to give it to them for being around so long and providing fresh and locally sourced meat and produce. They even have homemade hummus and potato salad I'll have to try next time. I also picked up some wild bore bacon but I'm flying back to so cal tonight. So I told the butcher that and he double packed it in ice for me to take in the plane. Now the price are really good because everything is organic or all natural. They also have more exotic meats if you like to try new things. I would definitely go back and try more things. read more

Went here for lunch today, and everything was delicious. The café had a choice between a hamburger (plain or bacon bleu cheese) and a chicken burger. We ordered two bacon bleu cheese burgers and one of the chicken burgers, and the food did not disappoint. The meat was juicy and cooked perfectly. The fries were crispy and homemade. Both sandwiches came with a lot of toppings, but I would have added a few to make the burgers perfect. I haven't tried the meat yet, but they had an impressive selection. I will be going back to get some! read more

We stopped in to see what they had after seeing some posts on Facebook that they were struggling and we are glad we did! We came in on a Sunday early afternoon and had an array of chicken and beef to choose from. Because they are closed on Monday, the nice gentleman behind the counter gave us a deal. We walked away with a flank steak, 2lb of wagyu ground beef, some chicken wings and a hefty amount of beef short ribs. We can't wait until they start making their ready to go food again, the roasted chicken looked like a killer deal! We visited yesterday to pick up 3.5lbs of butterflied bone out leg of lamb. They didn't have any readily available so charged us a dollar more per lb...! Your job is to be a butcher right? Which involves cutting meat to order, or am I wrong? Apparently most of their meat is factory cut and any cuts on site require an additional fee. Fine - no worries! But then this is what I opened today for a total cost of $50! It looks like a lamb that's been attacked by wolves. There's dozens of random cuts over the meat, parts of it are so thick they won't cook and other parts are so thin I can't do what I need. Alas, 2* because hopefully it will at least taste good even if they butchered the meat, no pun intended! read more

I am leaving 1 star because there is no option to leave 0. The meat was good, but it was not good enough to salvage our experience at this place. This place is a joke...GROUPON users be warned! Read on if interested... We found this place through GROUPON, so we decided to take advantage of the good deal that was being offered. Pulling up to the place, we were a bit worried; but the smell of smoked meat drew us in. Beforehand, you must NOT mentally picture this as a local fancy supermarket butcher shop, otherwise you'll be disappointed. The place was a little grubby with flies being frequent guests...even INSIDE the meat cases - pretty gross, but whatever...I got past that part pretty quickly. We were the only customers there, so the guy just kind of stood there awkwardly staring at us as my wife and I hashed out our desires. Some of the chicken had some slime-like junk on it from sitting out too long. Knowing that it was most likely spoiled, we decided to pick out some tasty looking beef and sausages instead. Getting ready to pay... I don't know what it is about some of these places; but every once in a while you face that awkward moment when doing the official GROUPON exchange. THIS WAS ONE OF THOSE PLACES! They guy was not too pleased that we had it - he immediately began complaining about the ridiculously high percentage that GROUPON takes from his business for using the feature. He then begins to complain that his company would not stay in business for these GROUPON prices, as if WE were the ones who setup the GROUPON account for HIS business. After ranting for a minute, trying to make us feel bad for using HIS coupon...the ol' bait & switch was on... In the middle of his rant he proceeded to tell us the pricing breakdowns. Ummm...come again? "This is the regular price (pointing to a LOWER price point)...and this is the price for people who are using a GROUPON (pointing to a HIGHER price point)." Are you freaking kidding me? You setup a GROUPON to draw customers in with a "good deal", and then you pull the ol' bait & switch by telling them that they have to pay a higher price because they are using a GROUPON???...consequently, you end up paying the full walk-in price anyways?? What kind of "business" does that??? The entire purpose of a GROUPON is to provide discounts to draw in new traffic. Instead, since we purchased the GROUPON already, WE became the suckers and decided to just buy anyways from this snake oil salesman, who freely admits to screwing all of his GROUPON customers. I would have given these guys 3 stars, since the location is a bit obscure and let's face it, they could use a remodel. BUT, I came in looking for beef jerky (sadly they had none), and ended up getting some slab bacon, a few links of house made chorizo and andouille sausage. Wow! My grill and my belly were so happy once I cooked my purchase over an open flame! Who doesn't like grilled bacon??? I don't think I need to add any descriptions here. I will say this though: butcher shop slab applewood smoked bacon is fantastic, and is much leaner then any bacon you can get at a grocery store. QFC has some decent slab bacon, but these guys blow it out of the water with flavor. Both kinds of sausage pleasantly surprised me with the balance of spices and lack of salt (thank you!) You can taste the unique flavors without the sodium, which really brings out the flavor of the meat itself. I still want some JERKY, so please bring it back soon, I will be back for more meat. P.S. The Butcher Shop also offers a wide range of cuts of natural beef, pork, as well as fowl. read more

I take it back about Collins Pub having the best Reuben. I still love it, but the Butcher Shop cafe takes the freakin' cake. Their corned beef is KOBE and out of this world. Sauerkraut, thousand island, dark rye, kobe corned beef, grilled panini style. It's a foodgasm and I can only hope to limit myself to one a week so as to not fatten my belly or ruin my taste for everything else. Oh yeah, everything else is primo too. EDIT 7/14/2016 - Got a call from the new manager. Very polite professional guy. He totally understood the facts and made no excuses. Heard the story again, and we worked it out. Based on my interactions with him, I'd be happy to return to this shop again. -------------------------------------------- I had been a loyal customer. Here's what happened last... Bought 10.5 lbs TRIMMED Kobe Brisket. Got home, and had to trim 5.5 lbs. of fat off the brisket. I literally threw away $75 worth of fat off of a $150 TRIMMED (supposedly) brisket. I didn't get mad, I wasn't impolite. I went back to them, explained it, showed a picture of the pile of fat, and purchased a few New York steaks to shore up as I was going to be short on meat. I only asked that they contact me to work something out for the fact that I didn't exactly get a right product for my money. Even the manager agreed, upon looking at the photo, that this was not OK. He said the owner would call me. They took my number. All I wanted was a $60 in-store credit, explaining that I wouldn't be upset if I had to touch up a trimmed brisket to the tune of 1 lb of fat, but not 5.5 lbs... that's not unfair or unreasonable, right? One week later, no one called. I called them and left a voicemail. It's now been 3 weeks, and no one has called. I walked in today and was told, "owner's got your number, but he's busy". Have you ever noticed how supermarket meat pales in comparison to the thick, marbled cuts of beef you see on Food Network shows? Ever wonder where you can find those choice cuts of meat? Look no further. The Butcher Shop Cafe is a non-descript white-washed shack connected to a commercial freezer, but don't let the exterior fool you: the quality of meat and meals is worthy of a starring role on any cable network show. The shop is first and foremost a distributor of meat, game and birds to Seattle's finest restaurants (including Willows Lodge, all of Tom Douglas' restaurants, Sarafina, etc.). The cuts displayed in the case, on the fresh board, and available for special order are the same ones selected by local chefs. Trust me, you'll never buy meat from a supermarket again. There's simply no comparison! My first purchase, a Kobe top sirloin, was the best steak I've ever cooked at home. I've since tried the marinated Kobe skewers (outstanding), organic chicken skewers (wow), apple-smoked bacon (drool), and lamb chops (I'm running out of superlatives). The cafe offerings are just as delightful - the sandwiches and salad bar offerings are incredible - and the cafe will gladly grill any cut from the case right on the spot. Really, it's a meat-lover's paradise. Kudos to Bill, the manager/butcher, who enthusiastically shares his deep knowledge about cuts and cooking methods,from chops to marinades. Went to this place because of the Groupon I had purchased, unlike others, I knew it was for sit down food only, not on butcher shop items. First, it has only 2 small tables in the place. The menu is quite limited, we had the choice of a Reuben, Hamburger, or Philly Steak sandwich. The reuben was good but had a lot of fat on the meat. The Philly was good. Had fries that were wide cute but thinly sliced, they were very good. Potato salad was good, not your store bought kind, made fresh at the cafe. This is a tiny place that was quite busy. They could benefit from expanding the size of their "cafe". It you are looking for a butcher shop, Double D meats in Mountlake Terrace is much bigger with a better selection and cleaner appearance. Bottom line, would I go back to eat lunch? No. Although it was good, I would much rather go to someplace with more ambiance and a cleaner environment. read more

UPDATE: They don't know how to call back people that leave messages. I don't live in the neighborhood anymore but am more than willing to drive for good meat. They have been open for less than a month and share the building with Select Gourmet Meats. We stopped in here for lunch on Sunday. They have pre-cooked whole chickens, Suasage Sandwiches or will cook any of the butcher shop meat selections to order. We had a whole herb roasted chicken with a side of Mac and Cheese. My wife sampled the Couscous and thought there was too much red pepper for her taste (she is a -1 star person for hotness.). I took a bite, but it was couscous and I HATE it no matter how good it might be. The Chicken was great! It tasted much better and was a bit less in price than any of the local grocery store roasted chickens. I would recommend stopping here for a roasted chicken over any of them. The Mac and Cheese was a rigatoni and didn't have a real cheese type sauce, but it was tasty. We didn't try the other side which was roasted(?) potatoes. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I just want to preface this with, I know how to cook great, but I'm by no means a meat or butcher expert. I ordered a Prime Rib for Christmas, and I was looking for about 6 bones. When asked if I wanted tomahawk, standard, or boneless, I told them standard. The next day I called back and asked if they could French it and tie the bones to the meat for me as I didn't want to have to worry about carving it myself. The guy said, "I think what you're looking for is a tomahawk." Knowing that wasn't really what I wanted, I clarified over the phone that what I was looking for was having the roast removed from the bones and tied back on. He said he could do that and it'd be ready in an hour. A few minutes later he called back and said that with those types of roasts they could only do the full 7 bone prime ribs, but that he'd drop the price from $15.99 lb to $13.99 lb. Sure, that's fine. I go to pick it up and he brings out a full tomahawk roast. I asked if it was removed from the bones and tied back, and he told me no it wasn't and that his butcher had instructed that it shouldn't be done with tomahawk roasts, and that he forgot to call me back and tell me that. The price drop that sounded like it was a deal was simply because he was giving me a roast with more bone. I'll accept blame for this next part: I shouldn't have bought it, but I did. I needed a prime rib and I don't have a lot of time to pick it up later in the week, so I just settled when I should have spoke up. I accept that. While I'm sure it's a great piece of meat, it's not what I was looking for or what I said I wanted. Now since it's a tomahawk I'm unable to cook it the method I was wanting to cook it and it's actually making Christmas dinner a pain because I'm having to plan around a completely different cooking method. I'm disappointed. It looks like a great cut of meat, but customer service was lacking gave me what they thought I wanted rather than what I was saying I wanted. read more

Their fries were very unique, thin and airy, but VERY good. The cole slaw and the level of service when eating IN left something to be desired, but keep in mind, they're first and foremost a butcher shop. It's a small shop with a family-owned feeling to it. There were two people working when I came in on my first visit last night; a man who seemed to be the owner was busy working away in back, and a kind, although not very knowledgeable staff-member in the front. Their cooked meats looked good (we didn't try any as we just wanted some meat for home). Their layout isn't pretty. It's meat. It's in a case. They had a limited grass-fed selection which was primarily what I was looking for. I was able to buy some grass-fed NY Strip steaks and a couple Ribeye. The steaks tasted great! They didn't have any grass-fed ground beef fresh; they did have some frozen. The man in back was the knowledgeable staff member, unfortunately, he was in back most of the time. He was able to answer a couple questions that the front girl didn't know the answer to. I'll say again she was nice, but not very helpful. I wouldn't shy away from going back here, but it's not going to be my first choice. I'm still searching for a quality butcher in the Kenmore/Woodinville/Bothell area that has a good selection of grass-fed/pastured meats and dairy. read more

We had a groupon so went there for lunch on a Saturday. We arrived shortly after they opened. We ordered the Reuben, pulled pork and Philly cheese with fries, onion rings and potato salad as sides. The Philly cheese and the onion rings were the family favorites. The pulled pork's BBQ sauce lacked flavor and the Reuben a bit cold. The fries were limp but still tasty. The potato salad was ok. We chose to wait and eat in the shop. The place was cold (well it's a butcher shop), the refrigerators were loud (it was had to have a conversation) and the place was not the cleanest (again, it's a butcher shop). There was also a lack of service. The orders took a long time to come out (30+ mins). And when it did, she came to our table, dumped the three styrofoam containers on the table, turned around and quickly walked away. There was no water and I don't see them selling drinks. We did buy some stew meat in the end and they were of average quality but pretty fresh. In all, if you are getting food, prepare to wait and take out. read more

I live not far away from this place, and have been going there recently for the butcher shop which is the best in the area. Tonight, the girlfriend and I decided to try the restaurant. I got the prime rib dip and she had the sausage pita sandwich. Both came with a bowl of chickpea and lamb soup, and they brought out a hummus, pita, and olive tray as a starter that was simply delicious. The food was excellent, though the prime rib sandwich would benefit from a heartier bread that can stand up to so much prime kobe beef and au jus. The atmosphere is definitely not what you'd expect of a regular restaurant, as the "restaurant" area is just a few tables in front of the meat cases. However it has its charms, and the owner and chef were very friendly and talkative. We came in about an hour before close on a Saturday and there was still a steady stream of butcher shop customers coming and going that added to the overall vibe. Delicious food, the best meats in all of Washington, a friendly atmosphere, and very close to home. I expect we'll be back many times. read more

The smoker brought my attention when driving by. Turned in their parking lot and talked with the counter guys. They were very nice and explained their product. Had a brisket sandwich... it wasn't to my liking so they had me tried their sausage links. Winner was the one with garlic and cheese. Bought all three because they were so nice to give me a sample. The jalapeño had a kick and the kobe one was a bit on the dryer side for me. Bought a piece of Rib-Eye steak, Flank steak, and a NY Steak. They recommended a Berkshire pork, never tried before (and never did because we were too full after cooking the Rib-Eye and Flank Steak). Three days later... tossing the pork... so sad. The NY steak never made it into the bag, so I think they left it in the fridge when I asked them to hold on to my order while I go shopping. I never went shopping, had a great chit chat with the owner and time went by. Picked up my order and went home. I will definitely go back and purchase a NY Steak and other meats. So far I've been here twice. I absolutely love this place! I drove past this place for years as a vegetarian. If I had tried their bacon earlier, I would've become the voracious carnivore I am now. So far I have tried their bacon (obviously), their sausages (freshly made chorizo? Hell yes), their grass-fed Oregon ribeye, their potato salad, and the foie gras. Everything has been so ridiculously good. I thought for a long time that I didn't like steak, turns out I just don't like the steaks we get at the grocery store. The ribeye last night was absolutely delicious, we didn't even need to season it. I live in Redmond now, but they've made a Butcher Shop Cafe addict out of me, and it is well worth the drive out to the Juanita/Kenmore area. This place is AMAZING! You need to go here. Their meat is beautiful and they have a bunch of meat you can't easily find (fois gras, lambs tongue etc). If you don't see it in the case, ask.
