Definitely a popular local spot. Large restaurant and we had to wait 54 minutes on a Friday night. Reservations recommended. Anyway their Large salad with goat cheese, cranberries was very good. My wife and I split the salad. I selected the Walleye entree, but the end result was something you would get at a fast food joint. Disappointing. My wife had the perch entree, better than the walleye but certainly not the best perch we have ever had. Perhaps we should have selected a burger. Most likely we will never return. read more

This place is a staple in Saugatuck. We were seated immediately and our server, Olivia, was amazing from start to finish. She was attentive and timely, checked on us frequently but not so much she interrupted our time. We had the turkey BLT and the Redwater salad with grilled salmon. Both were great! Ate there yesterday for Father's Day. Not a wait which was great but all 3 mains we got were bland as anything. I would have assumed the spicy shrimp burger was spicy - no, no heat and no real flavor - such a disappointment. My daughter got the avocado burger - she said it had no flavor whatsoever and my other daughter got the walleye basket - too much breading Ames not enough fish. My husband's peel and eat shrimp was fine, although typically I would think there should be some seasoning on that too. We had the best time hanging at The Butler on a hot day!! We sat on the top deck of the patio and the breeze up there made our dinner so enjoyable. We got the street corn bruschetta, stuff mushroom caps and split the bacon jam burger. The bruschetta was SO flavorful and unlike anything I've had before, we almost ordered a second round!! Our server was fantastic also, we didn't even ask for our burger to come on 2 plates but he went ahead and had the kitchen split that and the fries for us which made sharing so much easier. The walleye was amazing, fries were delicious. I didn't care for the coleslaw, it had dill in it, I don't think coleslaw is a dish that should have dill in it. Wish I had known that prior to ordering a dish of it, maybe they should think of putting that in the menu for others to know. Had to wait for our food for over an hour but the drinks were good & the atmosphere in the upper open seating area was nice, this made us not mind the wait so much. Over all I would say it was a good experience & I would maybe go back again for the Walleye but I won't be running back anytime soon. read more

I've gone to the Butler for years. My favorite meal has been the olive burger, which is no longer on the menu. I ordered the Southwest salad, which was missing the avocado. My brother and I ordered margaritas which were like water. I probably won't be back. read more

My wife and two adult kids came for supper on a Monday evening. The patio was full, which we took to be a good sign, but this was not good dining experience for us. Food was fine, not exceptional. Everything tasted good, but seemed like several plates had been under the warmer for quite a while. Service was SLOW. Drinks were slow, kitchen was slow, server coming around to refresh drinks was slow, getting the check was slow. Music was very loud--so loud it was hard to have a conversation. First time eating at The Butler. Atmosphere 10/10 amazing views and outdoor seating right on the water. Food 5/10 ordered the steak frites and couldn't even chew it. I've never seen such an awful piece of steak. Service 0/10 Brought this to our servers attention to which she responded with, "are you ready for your bill?" No, let me get my manager or anything. Our bill was brought over and sure enough the full amount for the meal was on the check. We then asked to speak with a manager. No one came over to our table, however our server informed us that the manager took off 25% of the steak meal. The meal that was not edible, still ended up costing me $21. All said and done we spent $90 for the 2 of us and neither of us had an appetizer, dessert, or anything. Will not be back. My husband said his pizza was wonderful, but due to the manager's lack of concern, we will not be returning again. read more

I will start by saying that our food was excellent, no question there. However, our server was not the most amenable person to work with. We went on a weeknight during the last week of January for the $20 steak dinner. Again...fabulous. We arrived at about 5:18 PM, happy hour ends at 5:30. The couple we were meeting were already there, at our table, with drinks, so we sat down right away. We waved at someone (the manager I guess?) and pointed to our friends to show we knew where we were headed). Our server didn't come to the table until just after 5:30. We said we had arrived before 5:30 and assumed we could get still get a happy hour-priced drink because of that, even though she hadn't come to take our orders yet. She said, no, it's after 5:30. We said, yes, but we were here in time and were just waiting for you to come back to the table (because the other couple had been served drinks at the table, not at the bar). She said she couldn't get there because there was not a food-runner and she herself was busy running food. So we said again, nicely, but we were here in time, even though you couldn't get to us yet. And she said very firmly, "You can talk to the manager." And that was that. To make matters a little worse, when we got it our food it was brought by .... you guessed it... a food runner, which supposedly there wasn't one. Date: 1-2-25 I ordered the special of the new york strip steak. My story follows: I did not receive a steak knife I could not cut the steak with the butter knife. I asked for A-1 sauce. The loaded mashed potatoe was cold. The steak was so tough I cold not chew it. I had ordered it Medium rare. The waitress never showed for over a 25 minutes. The coffee was cold and I never got the A-1 sauce. The restaruant was not busy, many open tables. We drove to the Butler from Grandville hoping for a tasty lunch. After a lovely late-summer day spent at Oval Beach, I decided to wander Downtown Saugatuck in search of a memorable dinner. In a dreamy, vitamin-D fueled high, I strolled along the docks, imagining all the beautiful yachts were mine. Since they weren't, I figured I'd eat my feelings. A delighful local I'd met earlier in the day recommended The Butler - more for its atmosphere than its food. So, in I went. The Butler is not a new restaurant to Saugatuck, but from what I understand, it has a new owner who built its massive outdoor patio overlooking the harbor. There appeared to be plenty of empty tables - in fact, there was an enire level of empty seats. When I approached the host, he told me there would be a 90 minute wait - almost seeming to discourage my business. Since bar seating was open, I waited for 10 minutes before finding a seat. Clearly, The Butler has gotten too big for its britches: there was not enough staff to accomodate diners on the entire upper-level of its patio. The staff were very friendly, and they seemed to be very nice kids. Be that as it may, they were highly stressed kids who were running pell-mell in order to keep up with their customers' demands. The Butler has a large menu, and I knew the food would be worth the wait. After little deliberation, I ordered the fried lake perch sandwich. The staff assured me the perch was straight from Lake Michigan. I paired it with fries. It was a very tasty sandwich, and the fish tasted quite fresh. It was the cherry on top of a wonderful day on the water. Staffing issues aside, I would gladly return to The Butler on my next visit to Saugatuck. read more

I've been to every restaurant in saugutuck multiple times. The Butler consistently has the worst food... every... single... time. Everywhere else downtown is relatively good and I can always find something on the menu... besides the butler. The food is never cooked right. Burgers ordered medium come well done. The whitefish dip is cold (intentionally) so they can just scoop it out of a premade batch in the fridge, usually this is a heated dish but no, not here, too much work. The menu is crafted horribly and the dishes aren't even cohesive on paper. On top of the gross food the seats outside will make your legs go numb, happens to everybody I'm with whenever we go there. Everything about this place is half ass and everyone I talk to agrees. Great location on the water with occasional live music. Other than that its got nothing going for it. Go to Phils, Barge, Lady Bird, Wicks, Bowdies, etc... Anywhere but The Butler read more

My husband and I got dinner at The Butler on a Tuesday evening in the fall and were seated immediately. It was pretty busy even though it is the "off season". Our server was kind and efficient. We ordered the mushroom ravioli, the fungi pizza and the crab stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. We like to order a variety and share. What does a butler do? He buttles! What does this butler do? It serves a pretty damn good fried chicken sandwich. Although I wasn't much of a fan of their Bistro sauce, I did find the chicken breast to be quite moist, breaded well and fried to a light crunch that doesn't overburden the bakery bun. Unfortunately, I found the bistro sauce to closely related to a vinegar base. Unfortunately, with a full house, they seemed to lag behind on the drinks so order accordingly. Cheers! read more

The Butler was recommended to us by someone at Saugatuck Dune Rides, and we were not disappointed. It was a gorgeous day, so we sat outside and enjoyed the view of the water and the pleasant, cool breeze. For my meal, I ordered the Salmon BLT while my husband and son both ordered a burger. The BLT was great, and the hamburgers were huge. To top off the experience, the staff was courteous and friendly, and the service was quick. The next time you're in town, stop in and give it a try. Ok so here we are, a solo traveler in Saugatuk! A little gay wanting to do a simple lake tour! This place has it all! Music, a big open bar, boats, new menu items. I sat at the bar and couldn't help but notice the amount of smiles and interaction from the staff to return customers. Was very nice to see. They were super busy and I have a lot of patience so if your going to sit at the bar be prepared to flag the bartenders down!
