The location and view of the water are decent. We choose to sit at the upper deck bar where the bartender walk by us multiple times without any acknowledgement and the bar wasn't even full. Corey has no personality and should not be a bar tender. As far as food goes, it wasn't amazing or anything special as we had peel and eat shrimp and New York strips. If you don't care about having kind and attentive service and amazing food this is your place. Otherwise there are so many other options in Saugatuck. read more

I sent our daughter there Saturday June 8th. She was visiting Michigan with her boyfriend. They sat outside, ordered drinks and their dinner. Two soups and two cheeseburgers. Soup came out right away. The burger took 2 hours. I just found out about this yesterday. I called today to speak to the manager. He said yeah he heard it was bad. I told him our daughter didn't leave because she kept being told their food was coming right up. Seriously? Both people are Type 1 Diabetics, so once they ordered they took their shots. We're visiting Saugatuck for the first time and we were taking a walk along the pier and we saw a cute restaurant with outdoor seating and decided to try it. Very pretty scenery no matter where you sit. We only had appetizers & drinks but they were all great. Had the chicken wings, chilled peel n eat shrimp, the summer spritzer and zombie dust beer on tap. What was nice about the Butler is that we got there Sunday night at almost 9 o'clock at night and we were still able to get dinner. We ordered clam chowder cheeseburgers and a kids meal. We dined at The Butler last week and had a great experience! We had a large group of 11 and they were very accommodating with a minimal wait time, which surprised me considering how busy they were. We asked to have our group of adolescent boys seated at a separate table nearby and they made it happen. The boys had a different waiter, and he was especially good with them. My 10-year-old son's feedback: "I liked how hospitable they were and how even though they didn't know how to make a Roy Rogers I told them how and it turned out great!" We are from the South! Our food was outstanding! What stood out to me was the whipped feta dip appetizer served with pita chips and garlic cloves. Also, the walleye was delicious and perfectly cooked with light breading. Our server was attentive and had some great drink suggestions for our group. Feedback from another satisfied person in our party: That place was amazing! Perfect Atmosphere with the live music. Very friendly staff and the food! I didn't know what Walleye was, but it was delicious with their dill cream sauce. This has been on their menu forever; it was changed a bit once RedWater Restaurants Group bought it, but it's still delicious. They have consistently tasty specialty cocktails; tonight my mom and I had Raspberry Lemon Drops and a Summer Spritz. We loved them both. We sat inside at a window table and enjoyed the views of the marina. Our server was Gayle and she was wonderful. We wanted to enjoy our drinks and have a relaxed dinner. Took 2 hours to get our food. Then it came out cold. On top of that, they forgot 2 of the 8 meals when the food was initially delivered. The other 2 meals didn't come until 30 minutes later. Their server was apparently down and they were unable to use credit card machine, so they needed to write the info down, which is less than optimal. Even still though the most frustrating part of the meal was that were half a dozen servers standing around chatting at the bottom of the stairs. I had to interrupt their conversation to get by and even then, they didn't actually move much, I had to side step through them. My sweet potato fries were cold and also had a hair in them so I didn't eat them. After waiting 45 minutes for food I wasn't about to try and send anything back. When we walked in, there was a sign that said "SOUP OF THE DAY LOBSTER BISQUE" when I ordered that I was immediately told there was none available. So I got the daily usual clam chowder. We placed our orders, and it seemed a bit weird. Our waitress seemed uninterested in her job and us. Minimal facial expression, interaction. Very short and impatient. While waiting for our food, we noticed all the people coming in and being seated by the windows immediately. The man behind us decided to talk on facetime for several minutes very loud and distracting. When the table behind us got to place their order we noticed their waitress was very upbeat and nice. But we also noticed they got way more options than us! We were offered "chips or fries" with burgers. The waitress behind us offered chips OR......like 5 different types or fries. AND! lobster bisque soup. Everyone around us got the soup special and the fries options. When we got our food, I was given the wrong burger. I nicely was telling the waitress but she became defensive and said give me your plate I'm sure the cook just grabbed the wrong burger. She took my plain cheese burger on another plate and brought back the same burger dressed as the Signature Burger I originally order. But it was all cold. I ate anyway. Maybe served with half a handful of fries. For the expensive cost It was just very disappointing. The atmosphere was beautiful though. Despite the bad reviews, we had hope for this place. From the outside it looks like a vibrant restaurant with a great ambience so how could there be so many negative reviews? Most of the staff we encountered were not very welcoming/friendly (with the exception of a young gentleman at the host stand when we left). The hostess couldn't have been more disappointed that we had a party of 10. I told her we would be willing to wait and happy to break into 2 tables near each other. They were busy but still seating everyone right away. She said we would have to wait up to 30 minutes. It seemed as though she was trying to talk us out of eating there due to our party size. We agreed to wait and eventually seated. The waitress was just ok. Not very friendly and because we had a large party 20% gratuity was already added. It felt like she really didn't have to work for her tip. The worst part was the food. The food did take forever and some things came out hot which is great (if I'm going to wait that long for food as long a it's fresh that's ok) but some things you could tell were sitting around and not platted at the same time and been sitting likely since we ordered. My husband's burger was great but sweet potato's fries were literally cold. My nephew ordered a pepperoni pizza, the crust in the middle of the pizza was complete soggy and the taste was off as several of us tried it. My daughter and I ordered Caesar salad and fries. The fries were delicious and piping hot but the salad was soggy, warm, wilted and the croutons were soft and full of moisture. This is hand down the worst salad either of us have ever had. We definitely wouldn't have left a 20% too for this food or service. We will not be returning. read more

The reasoning for my 2 star review is the service and the nearly hour wait we had to do for our food to come to our table. There were several tables around us that sat after we did and they were able to get their food in a timely manner. The place wasn't so busy and our waitress showed herself once in between to check in on drinks. Once in the last hour. We did enjoy our food after we got it but the overall experience wasn't good.
