I arrived at the buttered biscuit with family after 10 AM. Parking around here can be a battle, but we found a spot easily, which set the morning off on a good note. Even with the promising parking situation, we were anticipating the restaurant to be jam packed. Lucky for us, there were enough open tables available. They were able to accommodate our large group of 9 without much hassle. When I've been here in past years, I've had a longer wait for a group around this size. Must have been our lucky day. We started off with biscuits for the table and crumb cake. The biscuits were large but otherwise unremarkable. Decent in terms of taste, with the dryness and crumbly nature expected of a biscuit. What they lack in the biscuits themselves they make up for in the spread they serve alongside them. The spread had a sweet, cinnamon flavor to it. My only complaint is that they didn't give us more! The crumb cake was delicious as well, and not overwhelmingly sweet. We didn't have to wait long for our entrees to arrive. The pacing was perfect, gave us enough time to enjoy our starters without feeling rushed, but didn't leave us waiting long either. I opted for the buttered biscuit scramble, which was scrambled eggs accompanied by goat cheese, bacon, and tomato. It was a great mix of flavors that worked well together. There was a serving of potatoes on the side which were rather lackluster. My wife ordered a lemon mascarpone stuffed french toast with blueberry compote on top, which we both enjoyed. It was very sweet and filling, so not for everyone. I ended up eating about half of her portion (she offered!) I was satisfied with it but I think I would have gotten tired of it, maybe even felt sick, if I had the entire plate to myself. Our waitress was very accommodating of our large group and my young niece, even put her order in first without us asking her to. She came around regularly to check on us and see if anyone needed more coffee. Overall, great breakfast spot for the whole family to enjoy. We hope to continue visiting on our yearly stay down the shore. read more

Packed restaurant but the wait was only a few minutes. The restaurant has a very cute, homey vibe with wood floors, chandeliers, and mirrors. We met Dave, the owner, manager and chief bottle washer, while we were waiting. We took his recommendations and ordered the lemon blueberry mascarpone French toast and Dave's corned beef hash with asparagus, Swiss cheese and hollandaise and it came with a delicious biscuit. It could have used a lot more potatoes and cheese but the corned beef was tasty. We split those 3 ways and had plenty of food. The French toast came out cold and we had to send it back. The kitchen microwaved it and when it got back to us the bread was too tough to chew. Our server, Gabby, offered to get us a new one but we opted not to, so she took it off our check. She was hustling with the packed restaurant, but service was good. I would definitely go back next time I'm in town. read more

Ok so this was a tough review to leave! The Buttered Biscuit has an amazing name and it's in an amazing location in an amazing little town. The offseason parking is good, I'm sure it's terrible during the summer. We came on a Sunday for brunch with the family, pulling in around 10:45am. We were amazed to be seated -party of 6, so 2 tables- almost instantly! The coffee was hot and fresh and the tea service was impeccable. Really, the service was just really good. Clearly a long time waiter who knows how to do what he does and does it WELL. They don't have a kids' menu, so keep that in mind, and the portions are pretty big, my middles went with French toast: Blueberry marscapone was the CLEAR winner, the peanut butter banana was not well received lol. The poblano omelette was absolutely delicious, with roasted poblano peppers, cotija cheese and fresh corn it was SO GOOOD. The house potatoes were well seasoned, crispy and hot sauce arrived without request, so no complaints. The oldest and youngest tried the big G- eggs, a biscuit, and home fries. The oldest added THREE pancakes to his order. The pancakes were scarfed down, the biscuits almost universally discarded, and my husband only ate half of his breakfast burrito. The specials seem to be the way to go here, but the uniform sentiment is that they need another name, or a better biscuit. Maybe they should name themselves the buttered crumpet or the buttered scone, because biscuits they were NOT. They tasted like a mix between Bisquick mix and pancake batter: it was odd and unenjoyable. They should rethink the recipe. The other food was delicious, but if you're southern and have had a proper biscuit, maybe don't eat those!!! Otherwise, we did enjoy our food. The coffee was amazingly hot and delicious and the refills were generous and on time. All in all a solid 8/10 overall dining experience and 5.5/10 for the food but we'd definitely go back if we're ever in the area because there were some clear winners and it's always good to order the RIGHT thing!! lol read more

I've heard lots of good things about The Buttered Biscuit and I must say it didn't disappoint. Large portion of pancakes with crispy edges, which is a plus. I should've ordered the maple syrup, but I'll make sure I do next time. The sausage patties were flavorful and juicy. There was Bigelow Green Tea in the caddy, a big play. Fresh roasted turkey with bacon and avocado with your choice of bread. It was such a large portion I couldn't finish it. My guy had the grilled chicken wrap. It was good, but not the best he ever had. If I'm being honest, it lacked seasoning and didn't have too much chicken in it. Mostly fillers which was a little disappointing. Long lines, and people kept pouring in on a Sunday morning, so it's a popular place, and we went because the host at our hotel raved about it. We couldn't wait to try their buttered biscuits. That said, their name "buttered biscuit" is a misnomer, and a marketing play at best. Couldn't wait to try it - the biscuit is huge but flavorless, dry and did not have a hint of butter or butter flavor in it. I noticed other couples not finishing theirs either. This is not their signature breakfast treat. The winner for me was my dish - the "buttered biscuit scramble" (just a name, there's no buttered biscuit in this dish), a humble looking scrambled eggs dish with goat cheese, tomato and bacon, that was surprisingly delicious! I enjoyed the combination of those flavors: tangy, earthy, savory, slightly sweet from tomatoes. My husband was less impressed with his dish, I think it was 2 eggs any style. If we were to try this place all over again, might go for the muffins instead of biscuits. They do have a lot of big "carby" french toasts, if that's what you want. Extremely Disrespectful and Fatphobic Behavior from Staff I was really excited to visit Buttered Biscuits, but my experience was completely ruined by the waiter's repeated, inappropriate, and fatphobic comments. Throughout our meal, my friends and I were subjected to unsolicited remarks like: "You guys don't need that much food, you aren't that big." "The girls in the back are jealous--you guys are eating like the world is going to end." And as we were finishing, "I'll make sure to bring a bunch of to-go plates for all that food you got." Which hostess proceeded to look and laugh at us after comment was made. These comments were not only unprofessional--they were demeaning and made the entire table deeply uncomfortable. We didn't even order an excessive amount of food, but even if we had, we are paying customers and deserve to enjoy our meal without judgment or harassment. Dining out should never feel humiliating. Buttered Biscuits needs to seriously evaluate how their staff is trained to treat guests. I hope management takes accountability for this behavior, because as it stands, I will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone. read more

We used to LOVE coming to eat here, our food was always good and the staff was nice. This morning we stopped in for a quick breakfast with our 6 week old daughter and were told we could not use a high chair to put her carrier on, which is quite literally what they are made for. We were one of two tables in the restaurant so it was not as if there was no time to wipe the seat down once we were done. Not to mention we had been there two weeks ago and they let us use one. Instead, this morning, we were told to put her carrier on an empty chair which is not safe. I also have to mention the portion sizes have gotten significantly smaller while prices are continuing to get higher. During our half hour breakfast we also overheard the staff continuously talking about customers while standing behind the bar. The supposed bavarian cream was just vanilla Jello pudding and the chocolate shavings were just chocolate powder....a bit disappointed. Walked to this quaint restaurant, no wait and plenty of seating (though a 2 top might be seated next to the serving station like we were...even though there were other open tables). Service was VERY quick and attentive! They were also able to make accommodations to change some things around. Having never been, I was torn between the menu I saw on yelp and mods I was ready for vs the amazing sounding specials. We got the Taylor ham benny...I've had (and made) better hollandaise (it was lacking the lemon and cayenne), plus the biscuit wasn't very buttery (though the name would suggest otherwise) and kind of dry. I got the B.B. scramble but subbed asparagus for the tomatoes. I could definitely taste the herbs de provenance, but my bf thought it lacked flavor. It needed a little salt and pepper, but otherwise I thought it was good (plenty of goat cheese!). Probably the most disappointing food experience we've had in a long time. Steak and eggs - asked for medium rare - got microwaved to reheat 3 times meat. The eggs tasted weird too - like they were old or something. Orange juice was like what you would get in a holiday inn. Chicken wrap hardly any chicken in it. Burger was obviously a cheap frozen patty. The eggs Benedict special with the beef hash was ok though. The biscuits themselves were quite large though. No one ate them though - no flavor. Maybe that's why they give you some flavorless gel food product that's supposed to be butter and honey and cinnamon. Who knows. So for $90 not including tip, it's a challenge to understand why this place is so highly rated. Most NJ diners offer a better experience. Live and learn I guess lol. I ordered the corned beef with 2 poached eggs, asparagus and cheese. A biscuit is accompanied by honey butter and jam. It was a large portion which I was only able to eat 1/4 of it. Great take phone the rest. The space is large and bright with a countertop that is white and long with cake covered in glass reminiscent of nostalgic days. Had brunch here last Sunday right before heading back to the city. The place doesn't take reservations, has indoor and outdoor seating, and is also BYOB. The wait time was extremely long which was a bit frustrating, though food and service was quick once we sat down. I went with the biscuits and gravy and we got some cheesy grits to share. Honestly, the food was pretty lackluster. The gravy wasn't anything spectacular and no one even touched the grits after the first taste. There are tables available on 2 sides of the buildings: 1 side is very sunny and the other very shady, so take your pick for your dog to be comfortable. Been craving southern style biscuits with gravy. What better place to get it. At then a biscuit cafe right? Wrong! Bojangles fast food chicken restaurant in the south makes it 100x's better. The biscuits didn't seem homemade, they were not crumbly and had no taste. The gravy was horrible. It's was very thin and bland. That too had no taste. The staff was nice and I got my food quickly. But I was very disappointed. I do not recommend getting biscuits and gravy here. They need to find a chef that can master the gravy, since it is pretty easy to make. 4-23-22 Came here with my sister for breakfast. She had been here before and was excited to take me here. We parked on the street for free and walked a couple a blocks here. They had a crowd outside and she put our name on the list. It was a thirty minute wait but gave us time to catch up. We sat on the window sill as it is cold and windy outside. Once the table was ready we were directed to a table for two. I ordered a hot tea and was thrilled with the variety I was given to choose from. I had a spicy orange tea with fresh lemon. After reviewing Yelp photos I decided on the French Toast with marscarpone cheese and due to the photos I had seen blueberries on the side. I didn't want to soggy the French Toast. Also I got the Pork Roll on the side. When the serving came it was ginormous but did what I could to eat it as it was "The best French Toast" I have ever eaten in my life! So glad to have the pork roll as it was a nice combo of sweet and savory. As for the blueberries just perfect on the side definitely didn't need so much as I was served. Did I take the rest home? Absolutely! My home of course is in Florida they survived the flight and were eaten the next day. Would definitely come here regularly if I was nearby. Perhaps they will come to South Florida?! I can only hope. They were recognized by New Jersey monthly my Dad loved this publication as do I. Definitely a winner! read more
