I had lunch more than several times and had dinner a few times with my family and friends at this restaurant. Minimalistic decor in light browns and beige. Very cool and hip. The food was not what I expected according to the descriptions. Menu was creative and give the chef credit. When I saw Clam Chowder ($12) in a bowl; Crab Louie ($15,50) I was expecting the traditional versions but more refined. It was not traditional. The Clam Chowder had a citrus kick to it, though creamy, with disc shaped potatoes slices and artichoke chunks. The Crab Louie was smaller than a traditional one with a balsamic, sesame sauce. If the descriptions were detailed, I may have chosen differently. My wife ordered the Oysters ($16) four Miyagi topped with tuna and tomato dices. Very tasty. She also ordered the Lobster Risotto ($39,50) which was a nice portion. Every bite had a lobster piece. A glass of Ch. St Jean Cab ($13,50) 2005 needed another year or two. It was a tight tasting. Ate here twice and loved it both times! The first time I had breakfast here. I had the heuvos rancheros. They were amazing! Everyone else at my table liked their food too. Dinner was also amazing. We got a tasting of four different champagnes. I have never done a side by side tasting of champagne before. Fun times! If you get there before seven it is only eight dollars! Very well appointed dining room - we were seated at a booth and it was slightly uncomfortable for the two of us who are over 6 foot. We asked to be moved to a regular table. Two of us had the asparagus salad to start - excellent. The tapenade was a little salty, but overall, the dish was super tasty. The other two had the sashimi - I don't like sushi, but they raved about the dish. OK funny moment was when member of the party asked a waiter to describe the dish and it went like this: 'Sashimi is a raw fish dish'... 'what kind of fish is it'...'O, I don't know'.... We had the following main dishes: Cioppino - excellent. Our friend asked for it without mussels and they obliged. Pan Seared Morro Bay Sable Fish with Brussels Sprouts, Fingerling Potatoes, Smoked Bacon, Black Truffle Vinaigrette. To die for! For dinner I had Mary's Free Range Chicken with wild mushroom risotto and grilled kale with truffled jus. The chicken was moist and flavorful, and the risotto one of the best I've ever had! The grilled kale was crispy with a distinct smoky flavor. It was the only part of the meal that I didn't care for. Just a personal preference but it was a little bitter and chewy, next time I would ask to substitute another vegetable. My husband had the Hawaiian Swordfish with roasted potato fingerlings, broccoli rabe, and a white wine caper sauce. The swordfish was cooked perfectly, although the caper sauce was a little salty for his taste, again a matter of personal preference. (He had asked to substitute Swiss chard for the broccoli rabe, but somehow the message was lost in translation, but he reported that the broccoli was also delicious.) We returned for lunch the next day for the roasted beet carpaccio (delicious!), and rock cod tacos (loved the cilantro slaw and papilla salsa, although the cod itself was fairly bland). Service was good (more attentive at dinner than at lunch) and the setting beautiful. We had Living Social discounts as a part of our hotel stay, which made the convenience of dining in the hotel that much more appealing, as the menu is pricey. read more

This place was great. The food was good, I had a ceasar salad with rosemary chicken. The ceasar salad wasn't too fishy and the chicken was cooked perfectly with great taste and very tender and juicy. The calamari was also very tasty, well seasoned and perfect crunch! It was accompanied with battered green beans that were absolutely delicious! I was very appreciative of the accommodations to kids and strollers this is what sold us on the restaurant. We have 3 year old triplets and a 6 month old so it's hard to find places that can accommodate a quad stroller but they did. The best part of the restaurant is the view! The view is breathtaking and my kids really enjoyed eating and looking out onto the water. It was very calming and relaxing. My husband and I are very much interested in coming back alone to enjoy the ambiance a little better. The restaurant is very modern looking with great decor and color scheme. The bathrooms are surprisingly very clean, probably the cleanest public restroom ever! I also loved the hand towels instead of paper towels! I love that they are environment friendly and trying to help out by saving trees! Huge plus!!!! We stayed at the hotel a few days and dined her for lunch and dinner. Parking could be a problem if you weren't staying here. I'd recommend you valet park here. The restaurant has an outstanding view of the bay. The food was awesome every time we ate here. The staff was always prompt and friendly. The menu was a bit pricey but that's to be expected being your dining at probably the best hotel in Cannery Row. My only negative about this place was that it is kind of plain. The REST: The waiter or host (unclear) cut us off when ordering an appetizer and said he'd come back for that, and we felt rushed to give our drink order because he obviously had better things to do. We asked to be seated indoors when a table became available, which apparently they forgot. (The heat lamps weren't quite warm enough on a chilly December night.) he then took the entire order of another table seated after us and then when he came back we thought we had ordered the calamari, apparently OUR mistake. We left feeling we had "put them out" by dining there. The waiter who delivered our calamari was polite and warm, as was the new server who oddly showed up to collect our money for the bill. Another disappointing place!!!! We've lived here for 17 years, we've watched the hotel being built, we always walked by and wondered how good the restaurant is with all of the reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor. Today my wife and I went down walking on the row to enjoy the excellent weather, the activities and to have something to eat. We were in our way to the First Awakining when we passed bu the hotel again, they had their menus out and were trying to attracted tourists by giving half off a second entre. So, we decided to finally giving a try eventhough noting really popped out on the menu.....BIG MISTAKE we should've kept on walking. It started with the host, he didn't give us the choice of outside or inside seating like most places here would do, he simply proceeded to seat us. When we asked for an outside table, he replied that they were all taken except the communal seating, didn't even offer us the choice to wait if we wanted to....not a big deal. We were seated, in the middle of a restaurant, when a window seat came available next to us almost immediately after we were seated, we asked our waitress if we can move to this table, she replied sure and put a reserved sign on it until it was bused, then we moved to it. That was about the only positive thing in our experience. When she took our orders, I ordered for both my wife and myself, I clearly stated that both my wife and I will have ice tea, she came back with one drink!!!!!!!!! I ordered the skirt steak sandwich on ciabatta, I wasn't asked how I want my steak cooked, fish tacos (Rock Cod) for my wife, and calamari for appetizer. First comes the calamari, nothing special, no flavor at all, even the garlic aioli it was served with didn't help. As I said I'm local and this is a calamari fishing town, I know how it's fished, proses S and distributed to the local restaurant, you get the same taste in all of them but it never lack freshness nor flavor. The one I tried in this place lacks big time in the flavor category. Then come to the entrees, my steak came cold medium rare, yet it want even cocked evenly as some spots were cocked well, caramelized onion wasn't caramelized at all rather sweeted with no flavor, I struggled to taste the blue cheese. My wifegot two fish tacos was fishy (Rock Cod is a clean tasting fish, not a fishy fish), no flavor whatsoever, small crumpled pieces of fish smothered in shredded cabbage and two kind of out of the jar salsa!!!! SERIOUSLY it takes a lot to screw fish tacos, I'm not Latino and I make a killer fish tacos at home. In a very competitive market, specially for steak, seafood and Mexican food such as Monterey, you need to do a lot better to stay in business, especially with their prices. I could've walked down the row to any of the Mexican restaurants (and they're a dime a dozen here) and had a killer tacos for fraction of the prices. For Peet's sake I could've went to Bubba Gumbs next door and had a killer tacos and enjoyed the same scene. Same thing applies when it comes to steak, I could've went the Chart House and got a killer steak for the same price and the same view. Well, you get the idea. We were greeted by 2 hostesses and I had requested to sit by the water and we did not want to sit outside. They only had a high table which I did not want to sit at so my kids and I sat in the back in a somewhat private area. I asked for water all around and initially the person who sat us was hesitant but she said she would get us water and ice tea for me as well. Out server did not come for a while and I was a little concerned. The person who gave us water also took our app order (shrimp cocktail and fried calamari). Finally she server came and checked in and I expressed my concern somewhat jokingly. We ordered and we enjoyed our food (swordfish sandwich, steak sandwich, cheeseburgers). We had several people come and check on us and bring us food. I was a little surprised but thats fine as long as I receive good service we will not have any issues. We ordered dessert and it took a while for them to come out but when they brought the two desserts out mine had a candle in it. I was very thankful and we all in all enjoyed our dining experience. I wanted to take a picture with my kids since we were celebrating my birthday and the staff were more than happy to snap a couple of pictures for us. They also validated my valet parking. We had a very disappointing experience here. The menu advertises that it can accommodate gluten free diet so we decided to grab dinner as a family. Our son breaks gets painful eczema/psoriasis from gluten so we have to do our best to accommodate. Anyhow, we tried to confirm with host before seating (he wasn't sure about the offerings) so we then asked the server who had to ask another and another and then finally a Manager came by to say they only had a pasta option. However they were all out of at that time so actually had nothing for my son. So after 15min of trying to answer what should have been a simple question we left to find another restaurant. This is an international 4+ star hotel restaurant - pretty pathetic. Obviously we won't go back again. read more

The food was fantastic and the entertainment rivaled it. The service was tolerable at best. I'm so bummed because the last time I was here was a few years ago and the mashed potatoes were gorgeous! This time it was a big meh. The steak was very good so no complaints on that. The waiter was awful I asked him if there was an in between of rare and medium rare his words "absolutely not". We had to pour our own fluids despite of how many times he walked by our table. His assistants were way nicer and accommodating. Still I had to beg for limes for my oysters which I can't stand having weird sauces with. All I do is ask for limes and salt. What do I get? 2 lemon slices and a prayer apparently. I ask for limes again and I get a plate of them but they are pruned up. Our meal was really good once you got past the server issues. It was a Saturday night so I would think they would have the best of the best vanguarding the place. Something is up because the last time I was here the restaurant left a huge impression with a positive note. This time the best part was the food and the musician playing who was entertaining the the guests . I got his info to make sure he is acknowledged Zack Freita is his name and if it wasn't for him we would have left earlier. He played some original music and some hits. The oldie that I am I asked for Nirvana, The Doors, The Smiths and NIN and he was so kind indulging me. Not with NIN but with the other bands and anyone that can acoustically merge Nirvana and Right Said Fred is A-Ok with me. Otherwise this place in my opinion which doesn't mean I'm right at all but it is my experience. The service was awful so the next time I'm in town I will make sure to avoid it. read more

I was happy to learn that The C served breakfast starting as early as 6:30 every morning. Being an occasional golfer, I enjoy having something to eat before heading out to the greens and I found myself enjoying breakfast with my son at the C. The hostess, Torrey was warm and welcoming and brought us to a great table with a spectacular view of the bay. Our waitress Amber, for being so early in the morning was very cheerful and bright, wonderful to meet at 6:45 am. We had the C omelet and the Belgium waffles. The omelet was perfect to order and the waitress even stressed that if they had it in the kitchen and you wanted it on your omelet, it was no problem. My sons waffles were perfectly done as well. Overall, we had a wonderful breakfast and the perfect start to our day of golf. I would definitely recommend it for other occasions! This was a fantastic place for dinner. Waves rolling under the boards, cozy blankets and heaters to keep the night chill, and outstanding food. We had a calamari that was light and crispy and beautifully charred peppers to start. The macaroni and cheese is creamy and absolutely sinful. We also tried the clam chowder which was a complete surprise. It had the plumpest clams with thinly sliced leeks in a luscious chowder. There was a varied breakfast menu and great ambiance and spectacular view of the bay. I had a great arctic char omelet. This is a great place in Monterey for a the view while you eat. I have been down here a few times now and everytime I seem to hit it when it is empty, but don't let that stop from trying the drinks and food. Try and go during happy hour half off everything. Excellent gluten free options! And the food was actually good, not just "good for gluten free." Yes, that even includes the gluten-free bread. Very family friendly for an upscale restaurant. They even have a sign welcoming families and strollers and hand out non-toxic crayons. Maybe not surprising given that it's walking distance to the aquarium, but still very welcome. If you're in Monterey and need quality gluten free and/or have kids in tow, it's a no-brainer. The only caveat is that it's not cheap (though, given the food, still a good value). read more

I personally would have liked more Brussels sprouts and potatoes (the only accompaniments for the fish) bc that portion seemed very scant, but didn't leave me starving. May be due to lunch menu?
