I am very disappointed to say my most recent experience was mediocre at best. I paid almost $200 for cupcakes and a top 5 inch cake for my dads 70th birthday, which when I went to pick them up, they looked like my 4 y/o grandson made them. They were very messy, I expressed that at the store before leavening, paid for them one month in advance, even left a photo of what I wanted them to look like; wow. Well, the owner, I presume called me asking for the incorrect person offering to re-frost the cupcakes. It's too late I was full fledge in the middle of putting the final touches on my fathers 70th b-day party. We put them out for the quest and when we finally ate them, the top was like chewing rubber. I don't know if it's because they were too busy, made them and froze them or just didn't care but the effort put into these cupcakes was little or known. I'm sad that I had to serve these disgusting cupcakes at a one time event. I could have gotten better cupcakes from one of the local stores bakery. Better yet could have made them myself, they would not have been rubbery. My dad had a great time despite the cupcakes. read more

I almost didn't come here because some of the reviews were pretty bad. But, my experience with The Cake Shop was great! Not only did they fill an order that I needed for two days later, the lady took her time with us and didn't rush us out even though they were about to close for the night. She was very nice. When I went to pick up the cake it wasn't ready but they immediately finished it and was out of there with my beautiful cake a few minutes later. My daughter and all of her friends loved it. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I would have preferred the cake part to taste more homemade and they are a little pricey. Overall, great experience. They never disappoint! I've purchased a cake from this place for a couple of years now and glad I found this cake shop. Every year I order at least 2 custom cakes and their usual Holiday cakes. The Grinch cake was the most expensive one I've ordered($150) but totally worth it the look/excitement on my kids face are always priceless. The petite older lady with curly hair is usually the one I always order from. She even let me pickup the Clubhouse cake on a Sunday when they were closed because I didn't have a place for it in my fridge and they were suppose to make it so it's detachable and when they didn't she fixed the mistake by opening up on a Sunday just so I can pick it up. While I was there a few customers came in and picked out some festive cakes that were already made for Easter and the employees were able to write on them and customize them. Last weekend I made a trip back home from Las Vegas. We were having a gender reveal party for my sister and brother in law who are expecting. We needed a cake but with last minute plans, I couldn't find a cake shop in Las Vegas that could whip up a quick cake for us, so that's when I called the cake shop and was assisted by Susie. She had told me that normally they would need at least a one week notice for custom cakes which I completely understood so I was going to hang up but then she had asked me what was I looking for and I told her it was just a simple last minute cake for a small gender reveal party with a pineapple theme. Needless to say, she hooked it up and did exactly what I was looking for. It was a nice simple cake and it was delicious and ready in the perfect time for us. Thank you Susie for all of your help. The pastries here are great and I have absolutely no complaints there, however, the attitude of service alone is a far cry from desirable. Unfortunately it has not improved in the 3 visits I've made over the last 5 months. The description of the attitude I've dealt with every time is something in the way of "Oh my god, what the hell do you want, I'm way too busy to deal with you right now, so I'll just frown and behave in a way the clearly exhibits that I am discontent, impatient and not in the mood to sell the very thing that has me so occupied in the back" It's this shitty attitude that has been exuded from two different people working in the back that has hindered what could have otherwise been a good experience. My advice to you as a local business owner myself, "Selling sweets with a shitty attitude makes for bad business, If you are that miserable, do the future of your business a favor and hire an pleasantly demeanored advocate to represent a better idea of your company's core values when dealing with clientele. You are clearly amateurs of the worst kind, that being the type who think they have no room for improvement, or as I like to refer to "Delusional". I came in today looking for a place to order my daughters birthday cake from. I walk in and look at what they have so I can try their cupcakes, first off the lady who was in the front wasn't friendly and seemed irritated I was taking so "Long" picking my choices. It took less than 3 minutes and we were the only people in their sooo I have no idea why she wanted me to rush. I got a blueberry cupcake, cookies and cream cupcake, caramel apple cupcake, red velvet cupcake, a cheesecake, and a chocolate strawberry. All cupcakes were dry except for the red velvet. The cheesecake was nothing special I'd rather go to stator brothers. My daughter liked the chocolate strawberry but how hard is it to mess up a chocolate strawberry. I ordered a dozen of various flavored cupcakes on an apparently very busy Saturday morning as the store opened; unfortunately some of the cupcakes, which were available while my order was being taken, were no longer available immediately after our call ended. I understand why this bakery is busy, and why certain flavors sell out immediately after the shop opens, the cupcakes were absolutely the best. The cupcakes were what I'd call "boutique" or "top shelf"'. Each had a unique flavor combination, they were moist and had just the right ratio of cake to frosting. I was surprised to find a moist and flavorful cake underneath the cute, zoo-themed exterior. I have been to other parties and showers since then and they have had cakes from the Cake Shop. Every single cake has been perfect. They can do anything you can think of! You can bring in a picture and they can replicate it. I love how creative their designers are. In the Cake Shop itself, it is decorate nicely and it's clean. They have an array of sinful sweets to choose from and I have never had a bad treat from the Cake Shop. I also love how they have places to sit in the shop and enjoy your treat. The reason I didn't give the Cake Shop five stars is because the cupcakes are kind of expensive and sometimes the employees are grumpy. read more

I haven't been back since July 2008 (Barstow location--same owners). In celebration of my 40th birthday I ordered a 3 tier Red, white and blue or black cake. Typical of a 4th of July Birthday. After carefully sitting down to outline exactly what I wanted (three tier, 3 flavors, white frosting with red and black or blue trim) I even gave them a sketch of what exactly I was looking for. $70 dollars later I left confident this would be a great birthday. After all I'd been to this bakery twice a month for two years (I'm a big believer in feeding my staff---it keeps them happy). When I arrived for pick up the cake wasn't done---even though they set the time for pick up. So two hours later I had to return.....I almost wish I hadn't. I arrived to a RED and I mean blood RED cake with black trim (lace and stripes). I have never seen anything like it.....it looked like Mae West was their new designer. When I complained and showed them a copy of the drawing I had submitted....they were rude, unapologetic and told me I should be grateful for the cake on a holiday week end. I was ready to walk out and run to Costco (While it would have been cheap and simple at least it wouldn't look like it belonged to a hooker). If you could get by the three tiers of blood red frosting and lace (real lace not piped icing), then you could focus on the cracked icing from lack of stability of the tiers. And the all chocolate cake---I asked for yellow, white and the top tier to be chocolate. What a disaster......NEVER AGAIN !!! But it was a great 40th anyway...wine, good friends, food on the grill and fireworks....and we all got a great laugh on the cake. read more
