Another Yelp score! We were looking for a casual place with home cooking and this place fit the bill. We were here on a Friday and they had all you can eat fish. Had both the fried and the grilled pollock and we each enjoyed what we chose. Optional onion rings instead of fries at no extra charge. They might have been the best onion rings I have ever had! Stopped here on our way home back from Las Vegas, NV for brunch. The prices were reasonable. The food was mediocre. Huge portions though! I guess this is one of the best restaurants here considering there was only a handful in this rural area. The service was okay. There was a little bit of a wait on our food. During our visit, the toilet was clogged, but they quickly fixed it after they were informed. I wouldn't stop by to this exit again for food. We stopped here on our 4th day of a 5-day road trip. Eating at restaurants and diners the whole way. This was by far best restaurant of of all. A notch above every other place we ate. We could not have been happier after striking out really bad with some of our choices on previous days. This place is clean. The waitresses were cool. The food was excellent. Hats off to the cook. You're suppose to say "how can I make this right?" Just imagine when you have only 2 servers for 40 customers, and more people coming in. Thanks Yelp for steering us here. Stayed down the street at travelodge. The staff here is so nice, appears to be a family biz. Had the breakfast burrito with chorizo. Huge as are drinks but they have to go cups. Would stop again. They also sell some jackets and blankets at really reasonable prices. We chose this place based on Yelp and the surrounding food joints. This one had ok reviews and better pictures. I'm sure this is a prime place for this town, but don't expect a lot. The food is mostly fried or microwaved. We stuck with Mexican and had tacos, enchiladas and chile relleno. No Bueno. The tacos were soggy, the chile relleno was a fried mess. The enchilada was ok. Warning, the salsa and enchilada sauce are a little spicy. The place was fairly clean and the staff are nice. I did overhear several locals raving about the food so my guess this place is one of the better local places. I don't like fast food so this is the place we chose. Keep driving. Service is horrible and the food is not that good. I have no idea what the other folks who gave this a high rating were thinking about but this place sucks. It in desperate need of either restaurant impossible to show up or to be closed! We are literally standing in line to pay our check because we've seen our waitress 3 times all evening. Once to take a drink order, 10 mins after we sat, once for our order, and once to drop it off. Awful service. We stopped by for dinner and were very disappointed. Our expectations were high based on the 5 star reviews previously given. After leaving we thought this place deserved a 2 or maybe 3 star review. When we first walked in the whole place smelled like fish which may or may not be a good thing. We promptly were seated by a kind server and given chips and salsa. The salsa tasted like a combination of pizza sauce and regular salsa. I ordered the green chile chicken enchiladas which were not too shabby. Just your run of the mill enchiladas. My wife ordered the chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were not terrible but I'd say they are definitely not restaurant quality. It appeared that the tenders came from a frozen food bag that I could have prepared at home. When broken apart the inside did not look like chicken but was rather sponge-like. This is very baffling to me since I saw other customers eating fried chicken which was made from real chicken. The restaurant should not be serving tenders that look like they are from a high school cafeteria. All in all I would not recommend this restaurant for those who are looking for a home cooked, scrumptious meal. However the staff is very friendly and the prices are very low. So if you just want some grub for a low price and a free smile then stop on by. read more

When you're traveling and stop in small towns to eat and crash for the evening, I find it very effective to ask locals where the best places are to eat. The last thing we want to do is drive all day only to pay for a lousy meal when you finally stop. That being said, I asked the manager if the Wigwams (our bed for the night) where the best breakfast in town is. She recommended the Chameleon restaurant which was just minutes away. After a nice stay in our Tee Pee, we made our way over. Like most places in small towns, the signage isn't big so you have to keep your eyes open to find it. There were several cars in their amply sized parking lot which is always a good sign. We were greeted by a very friendly staff member who invited us in and to choose any table. The tables and chairs were clean and the locals were all chatting and seamed to be enjoying their food. The menu consists of Mexican and traditional American food. I ordered a traditional breakfast including two over- medium eggs, bacon, home fries and an English muffin. My wife ordered the vegetarian omelet. While waiting for our food (which came fast) a girl sitting at the table next to us received her breakfast burrito that was slightly smaller than an official NFL football. It looked delightful! When our food arrived, I was jealous of my wife's omelet but thoroughly enjoyed the food I ordered. I received 4 pieces of bacon and my eggs were cooked perfectly. The coffee was good and our waitress offered refills on the regular. We will definitely return to the Chameleon any time we're passing through Holbrook AZ. read more

The exterior doesn't really live up to it's name. The inside, the hometown feel of The Camaleon, tipped the star chart to a full 5. Not too much to choose from when in Holbrook but we were driving to the Petrified Forest and needed a place to eat. We saw a bunch of cop cars outside so we figured if local police eat here then it must be descent. The place was small but big enough to seat a party of 6. Holbrook is not restaurant heaven but this place was sparkling clean at 7 am with a $5 breakfast special that hit the spot. Great coffee and tasty pancakes, eggs, and bacon for two for under $15. I truly don't get all these 4-star reviews. I get that Holbrook isn't restaurant Nirvana, so maybe it's relative to what's available. But my partner's chile relleno was tiny and overcooked. The waiter said they were pre-made and just reheated. My BLT and coleslaw were good though. The dessert menu consisted of 3 flavors of pie. My blueberry pie was filled with cornstarch and blueberry juice. I finished it because I'd ordered it, but immediately wished I hadn't. I will say the waiter was attentive and service was quick and place was clean. I imagine it's hard to make a go of it in a place this small which is probably why they also has a corner of the shop selling clothing too. read more

Was looking for something with a varied menu as we could not decide on what sounded good. Went here and we were pleasantly surprised. We both had the omelets for our dinner and they were amazing. Mine was the ham and cheese, hers was the mushroom and cheese. We were thrilled with our choices, and to think we got out of there for under $20 is incredible considering the quality of food.
