5 Stars! Absolute great dining experience. It was a last minute pick for a birthday dinner with my family and I kind of chose it because it's listed as a bit cheaper than say Jeff Ruby's. It really isn't and as it turns out, it was worth every penny. Outstanding service throughout, beginning with complimentary valet parking. The entrance opens into a large and spacious interior that's well appointed with classic steakhouse decor, mahogany wood, leather and white linen tablecloths. A warm greeting at the front followed by a duo of waiters at a large round table who served us throughout our meal. The main waiter was slightly condescending though when I ask for the beer list, he stated that "this is a premier steakhouse, our focus is fine wine and cocktails". Please, I've been to fine steakhouses all over the country and most have a great selection of imported and craft beers. That being said I opted for a classic old fashion and well it's probably the best old fashion I've ever had. It's a thing, I looked it up and there it was Capital Grille Old fashion recipe. They started off with a basket of bread with a variety of choices, served along with our cocktails and wine. We chose the grand plateau of seafood, with oysters, lobster, shrimp, and lump crab. It was served with; cocktail, mignonette and mustard sauce. The seafood was fresh and delicious, though drawn butter would have been a nice touch. My wife and youngest split the filet, my older daughter got the bone in ribeye and I got the lamb rib chops. I got to sample a nice piece of the ribeye and filet and have to say that both steaks were exquisite and equaled the best steaks I've eaten. We finished with a dessert of cheese cake and coconut cream pie which was just the cherry on the top of an already great meal. I tried the lobster Mac and cheese which was underwhelming , the mashed potatoes were great and my asparagus was burned but not too bad. The lobster crab cakes were the best thing I had all night . In town for dinner on UC Parents Weekend. No reservations (mistake on our part), but John, the GM, was happy to accommodate us. While waiting for our table, Stacy in the bar was super friendly! Seated quickly. Christopher was our waiter and took excellent care of us. Knew the menu forward and back. New York Strip with the Courvoisier sauce was cooked perfectly, and may be the best steak I've had. SO had the Caeser Sallad with chicken and had no complaints. The service is top notch. We were never wanting for water or beverage refills. Christopher was knowledgeable on the wine list and was a pleasant personality. Chardonnay suggestion he made was perfect for the SO. Honestly, when we return, we will request him. The atmosphere here is spectacular. In my opinion, for what I think of a steak house and the quality of food, this would be considered lower end for me compared to what's in the city. It had your typical sourdough dinner rolls with what looked like everything seasoning. It also had a blueberry bread. Both breads were good. My 1-year-old devoured the blueberry bread. Next we had glasses of wine. I had a sweet wine (don't remember which type) and my husband had Pinot Noir. The wines were good. My husband and I also each had a side salad. I had the Wedge and he had the Caesar Salad. The Wedge was decent but not what I expected. It was drenched in the Peppercorn dressing. I like extra dressing but this was a bit too much. Once I ate all of the bacon I was done. My husband said this Caesar Salad was not good. He ate it but said he has had better. Considering this to be a steak house, one would assume the steak is stellar! I ordered the Mother's Day special which was a Petite Filet Oscar Style (Asparagus, Crab Meat and Bearnaise sauce). My husband ordered the Halibut, and we ordered Creamed Spinach and Mashed Potatoes to share. I ordered my steak Medium + and it came out a little closer to medium well. I was a little annoyed by this but nonetheless I ate it anyway. The flavor of the steak was just blah. It wasn't bad but it wasn't impressive. I've certainly had better. It did not wow me, at all. My boyfriend took me to the Capital Grille for my birthday last night and upon walking into the restaurant I immediately felt welcomed. The hostess walked us to our table which was already ready even though we arrived a half hour early. When we got to our table it was covered in "happy birthday" confetti with a card from The Capital Grille. Our waitress, Valerie, was OUTSTANDING! She answered all of our questions pertaining to the food and drink menus and was extremely thorough in explaining what the restaurant had to offer. To start off we each ordered a cocktail the Capital Cosmo and In-Fashion were both perfect. In addition we ordered the prosciutto and fresh mozzarella as a light appetizer. The tomatoes on the plate were extremely fresh and the drizzled balsamic was the perfect dressing. For our main course, we ordered the 10oz filet mignon and the 14oz New York strip. While I ordered mine medium it wasn't as pink as I was expecting and I would definitely recommend ordering medium rare if you want more of a pink center as the ends of my steak were a little dry. We also shared the lobster mac and cheese to share which was to DIE for! It was creamy, flavorful, and absolutely perfect in every single way. We were too full for dessert and even had leftover mac but Valerie surprised us with a Happy Birthday dessert and glasses of champagne on her! I am lowering my review after tonight's dinner. Too rushed! Meals came out while we were still eating our soups and salads. Also my wife's swordfish was lukewarm and my steak was just a little hotter. My son's steak was fine. My wife ended up taking her salad home. The manager stopped by and ask how it was. My wife told him and he said we could warm it up. I didnt want my steak warmed up. My wife was afraid to send back. The manager should have replaced it. He never came back. For a 350 dollar meal we should have at minimum been comped for our 1 dessert. My caesar salad was also below par. I have been here many times in several cities. We had such a wonderful time at The Capital Grille this weekend! Some family members took my fiancé and me out to celebrate our engagement. Everything was spectacular from the moment we walked in. We were immediately escorted to a table sprinkled with congratulatory confetti! Not only that, but there was a hand-written card sealed in an envelope congratulating us on our occasion. We were so impressed! We have celebrated our engagement at a couple other restaurants (each with different friends/family members), and no other establishment has been this personal or thoughtful. Our server was Ann, and she was very sweet. She also congratulated us as she introduced herself and informed us of the specials. Our drinks were never less than half-full; someone always topped them off, which was so nice. I was so happy with the bread that came to our table! There were four different types. My favorite was the white onion bread. It was SO good!! Everyone else said the brown bread (maybe rye) was delicious, but I didn't try it. We all ordered filets, and we shared the potatoes au gratin and the brussels sprouts. All of our steaks were cooked perfectly, and we enjoyed the potatoes. They were crispy on top and cheesy in the middle! The Brussels sprouts were AMAZING!! They had a soy glaze and hunks of thick-cut bacon. The bacon was so thick that it almost seemed like pork belly! Seriously, I could eat these Brussels sprouts every night. Even my brussels-sprout-hating fiancé enjoyed them. We were eager to order dessert. My aunt and uncle ordered the creme brûlée and the coconut cream pie. My fiancé and I were planning on ordering something else, but Ann came by and said that she had a special dessert coming for us. I was a mixture of confused and excited. But when I saw what came to the table, I was absolutely floored! A rectangle plate sat in front of us with espresso chocolate flourless torte, raspberry sauce, whipped cream, brûléed cheesecake, strawberry sauce, and the word "CONGRATULATIONS" spelled out in edible chocolate!! What?!?! Y'all, I about cried. It was SO thoughtful. And not only that, but it was delicious. The chocolate torte was rich and decadent, and the brûlée cheesecake was to-die-for. It was smooth and creamy, with a perfect brûléed sugar topping. The crust was perfect. This was the cheesecake of my dreams! For the record, the creme brûlée was also incredible--one of the best I've ever had! I'm not a fan of coconut, so I didn't try the pie, but I was told that it was good. Once our dessert was delivered, Ann took our picture with a digital camera. A few moments later, she delivered a card to the table with our picture in it, so that we could remember our night! It was so fun. There was one hiccup of the night--we ordered 2 soups, and they never came. We informed our server, and she thoroughly apologized. She took the soup off the bill, and also gave us dessert on the house--super generous! Though they made a mistake, but they more than made up for it. I was so happy with everything else we had experienced that night, I didn't even have a second to be upset about the soup (although, I would like to try it next time). I might've enjoyed my experience a little more if my first visit here was not with a large group. We had a room reserved with a pre-set menu, so I couldn't really choose my meal as I normally would. My biggest complaint would be the value, since I couldn't eat much of each course (there were several), my plates were still pretty full when they cleared them away. Call me cheap but I would have liked to take my leftovers home to enjoy later! The staff was great and really took care of us. Also that bread basket - amazing!! I would come back just to take those breads home with me. Calamari was good, love the addition of peppers. Salads were very fresh but too large to be a side. All of the sides for the table were delicious, but very fatty (buttery, creamy, oily.) My main course was the sea bass, which came highly recommended by friends, and it did not disappoint. Typically I go for a white fish when I'm looking for a "leaner" option, but this one was sitting in butter. Ate there last night to celebrate my wife's birthday, which between this location and the one in Troy Michigan we have celebrated most birthdays and anniversaries since 2004. Service is always great (5 star) but the quality of the food was a 0.5. I ordered a Chef Special which has been a special every time I've been there. Fillet with Crab on top. I ordered it medium and what I got was a fillet sliced by the cook and stacked back together? I can go to Outback and have a cook that can cook a steak medium. I should have known something has gone down hill when I ordered a Wedge salad and basically got a chopped salad as was explained "we saved you the effort of cutting it up yourself"? I guess they must have thought I was four and needed my food cut up four me. I guess they are experiencing difficulty getting help. Decided to have dinner here for date night and was very disappointed with the decision. Food was good and server was good, but couldn't shake the horrible start to our evening. We checked in at the host stand to let them know we were there for our reservation. Full disclosure, we were 4 minutes late for a 6:45 reservation, but no one else was waiting. We stood to the side and watched the hostess ponder for eternity over where to seat us. Meanwhile, a couple comes in behind us, announced they didn't have reservations and were told that any of the open spots in the bar were open seating. From out of no where, another person comes from the back of the bar, greets the couple, announces that the man's favorite table is table 85 and guides them to a large booth in the corner of the dinning room. I only know this because we were still waiting for the host to decide where we would sit and finally passed the information along to her assistant standing by for the information. The best service starting with a welcoming hostess (I note because unfortunately it is so rare to be genuinely greeted) and Sam, our waitress was so excellent. I was with family for dinner on MLK Jr. Day and we were so wrapped up in conversation that Sam was intuitive and let us order piece by price and not all at once (probably annoying to most servers). She was on top of refills and clearing plates as we emptied them since we ordered a few appetizers so the table filled up quickly. So good! Since covid we haven't done much outside of our house other than ordering food to go. The Hubby and I decided to order Capital Grille for our anniversary dinner and eat it at home. We placed our order online and they were prompt with delivering it to our car once I arrived. Definitely did not disappoint. The steak was amazing and cooked exactly like we wanted and our sides (mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and lobster Mac was amazing). I had lobster tails that came with my steak and the sauce was so flavorful. We also over indulged and got desserts. We tried Capital Grille for the first time because both my friend and I had never been and they were featured on restaurant week. We had 6:30 reservations, I was about 5 minutes late because there was no parking so I had to go over to the garage but no big deal! They do have complimentary valet but the line was very long. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable but was either extremely busy or distracted. After our initial drink order it took a very long time for him to come back to take our order, which was the preset menu for restaurant week. It took us an hour and a half from the time we sat down to get our main course. I will say the food was prepared perfectly and was delicious! Hats off to the chef, well done! I got the NY strip, flavor was great as they dry age them. I also got the creme brulee for dessert which was amazing! The manager also comp'd my wine because there was food left over on the seat that I did not see when we sat down and it got all over my pants. Let's just say for one glass of wine and a preset menu we were at the restaurant for 2.5 hours, 6:30-9 and had to ask the manager for our check. The food was very good but the service does not match. For a high price restaurant you expect the service to be good. My friend mentioned she would try the restaurant again but I think I'd dine elsewhere. Bummed because this is so close to home and really wanted to be able to rave about this place. Also- what is with the female workers attire? My mother and I came in tonight for Mother's Day and had a terrible experience. We waited over an hour for the food, which didn't bother me as much as her, because they were busy, but we were hungry. When the food came, it wasn't good. I ordered my filet medium well and it came charred black. The mushrooms were also charred black. My mother's asparagus on the other hand was raw. She couldn't even cut it with a steak knife. They did pay for our steaks, which was nice, but what they paid for was essentially inedible, it's going to the dogs. Wowza! My husband made dinner reservations last night for our wedding anniversary. I didn't know what to expect going in , but saw that it was rated 4.7/5 stars. We were seated at a booth that had little red hearts and a hand written card. That kind of attention to detail really blew me away! Before I tell you how great everything else is, I'll tell you the one thing that I was not very impressed with. The Fiji water that they bring out is $7 a bottle. Call me crazy, but I went there for good food-not $14 worth of water that I can't buy from a gas station for $4 total. Free water is more my thing. It is restaurant week, so they are offering a 3 course menu for $35 a person which is an INSANE deal. I chose the 8 oz filet mignon and my husband the 14 oz NY Strip Steak. My steaks are rarely cooked how I actually like them, but this one was by far the best ever. He got a shallot butter and I got jumbo herb butter shrimp to top. The shrimp was good, and worth the extra $10. We shared potatoes and green beans. Those potatoes are so gosh darn good! For dessert we ordered creme brulee, but they brought us a sample of the chocolate espresso cake and wrote 'HAPPY ANNIVERSARY' on it as well. The creme brulee was also the best I've had anywhere! The chocolate espresso cake was very rich, so I only did a few bites but SO GOOD. After our server, Lindsey, brought the check she came back to me with 3 roses for our 3 year anniversary. I thanked her again for the best service that we have ever received and shook the manager's hand on the way out. Such an impressive menu and the above top notch service.
