My wife couldn't believe I finished it, but it was SO GOOD, I had to. She got the prime rib too and struggle to eat half. Great service too. We were celebrating a milestone and the server brought over a warm churro donut with ice cream and a candle. Very very tasty. My only small quibble (which is more my issue) is that the atmosphere didn't match the food. It was noisy. There were huge windows with a view of traffic and passers-by. We celebrated a couple birthdays here last night for dinner. Ambience was pretty nice. It gave Disneyland vibes for some reason- can't quite explain it haha, but it was nice! The food overall was decent, but I was extremely disappointed in my meal. I ordered the rib eye- medium rare. The plate came out and before I even cut into it- I could tell it was way overcooked. I let the server know and she agreed- and said they'd make a new one. Well the new rib eye came out and well... equally unhappy. It wasn't well done but it was pretty medium. The manager stood there and wanted me to cut into it in front of him to make sure it was cooked right. Well that was awkward and I sat there silent. My friends had to respond and said it was ok. Well it wasn't ok. They were given a second chance to cook it right and failed unfortunately. It was one of the more pricier items on the menu- so my dinner was a big disappointment. read more

We sat on the patio right on Pine Ave, which made it fun to people watch. We ordered delicious drinks and dinner was great. The majority of us ordered the chicken fried chicken or pork chop. Wow. So flavorful!! Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked and a huge portion with a veggie side and mashed potatoes. Oh. The mashed potatoes!! It's a cute place with a warm decor, it's a little small but comfortable. Luckily we beat a crowd and had no wait. We meant to go to another restaurant in the area but it was closed for a private event so we literally just stumbled in. Our server Courtney, live band, drinks and dessert were amazing and the reason why I'm rating it so high. The food was a little bland for the prices. I had the prime rib which was just ok, I've had better but again it could've been worse. The smoked cheddar burger was meh. The best thing our party ordered was actually the Fish & Chips. The batter had a good seasoning and was one of the better tasting tartar sauces in my opinion. I probabaly won't be back but I enjoyed my dining experience. The butter cake was amazing. Prime rib is delicious here. I had been meaning to come to The Carvery for a while and finally visited - twice in the same week. I tried the Beets and Blackberries Quinoa Salad. It came with blackberry, goat cheese, avocado, beets, quinoa and arugula. I added the prime rib for an additional nine bucks. The pale pink prime rib with was delectably tender, had a wonderful smoky flavor and served warm, already pre-cut into bite-sized pieces. The meat was the star of the show, for sure. The Cocktail menu was of interest with drinks containing ingredients such as balsamic reduction, muddled strawberries/peaches, Madagascar vanilla, basil and fresh nutmeg (not all in one drink)... Service was friendly, patio seating also available, but the occasional smell of cigarettes from smokers can be off-putting. On my second visit here, I split the prime rib dinner. It is way too big for one person, 16 ounces is a lot of meat. We were able to swap out the potatoes for some healthier greens, which was nice. We barely were able to finish our portions! Definitely overstuffed... Worth it though, the flavor is exceptional. read more

I love the food at The Carvery. This review is based solely on takeout service. Since the start of the pandemic I've been ordering pretty much the same to-go items from The Carvery and as of late, their takeout portion sizes have been getting smaller and smaller. I ordered a chopped the wedge salad for $12, 2 French Onion Soups for $14, and a Southwestern Cesar Salad $14- totaling $43. The two soup containers were half full, as were the salads. This is a definite change from before. Tonight, I was told it would take 25 minutes for my order (no problem) but when I arrived soup was already cold. Really disappointed with them tonight. Will absolutely not be returning for takeout- I recommend you eat at the restaurant only. read more

This place is so beautiful and would be great except for their bartender on staff, Scott. He was incredibly unprofessional to the staff and myself. When we chatted with the manager about the situation he interrupted our conversation and even mocked my sister. We were shocked he was not fired on the spot. It seems like a great place, but unfortunately we left because of the bartenders conduct. The manager took care of us and handled the situation - we hope to go back after some turnover. read more

Went there for lunch during the week. They have a good outdoor seating and we chose to sit outside. Good selection of wine and beer. I Order the double petit and replaced mashed potato with Gorgonzola potato. Food was on point and nothing to complain about. It's slightly over priced for lunch but the quality is good. We ordered the filet mignon since they had ran out of the prime rib and charged like $28 for a 2oz steak. Although it says on the menu, 4oz, it's actually almost 2oz piece of steak that they put over a piece of bread so it looks big. Asked for it medium but the steak was well done. My husband and I came for their Valentine's Day prie fixe menu ($85 pp) and it was not worth it. For starters, they sat us in the back balcony of the restaurant which we didn't know connected to the next door club, so we had to listen to romantic jazz mixed with Fetty Wap every time the door opened. It was also crusty and dirty there. When we asked to move, they said all the tables were booked (spoiler - they weren't because no one came and we too had a reservation). Then, they ran out of half the things on the menu. From the limited menu, I ordered a salad without nuts due to an allergy and they brought me the WRONG salad WITH NUTS. My entree was good but cold. At the end of the meal, we ordered dessert only for the waiter to bring us a random dessert, saying they ran out of what we ordered and didn't even let us choose if we wanted that. It was not worth the price, the ambiance was terrible, and we got our cocktails at the end of dinner. 1/5 would not recommend! read more

Noticed this place just opened so we have it a try. I ordered a penicillin craft cocktail and loved it! Tasted like I was drinking smoked lemonade. My wife had a glass of cab from Daou that was excellent as well. They have a good selection of wine and big selection of beers that made it difficult to choose between the cocktail or beer. Since I was driving I stuck with the one drink. I had the prime rib sandwich that just melted in my mouth. The beef was medium rare as prime rib should be and the au jus tasted like French onion soup which I love! My wife had the mahi mahi and thoroughly enjoyed it. I should have gotten a picture of the menu but we'll be back soon. Every one of the employees were very friendly and our server Nik was awesome! First off, interesting decor. It's like a hipster industrial vibe with a hint of art deco? I don't know if that's accurate but it works for me. The host and server (Eric) were both nice and attentive. Considering it was their Grand Opening, service was great. Everyone had answers to my questions, service timing was reasonable, live music was great. It might just be me, but the noise volume in there was a little loud for my preference. I had to yell across the table to converse with my dinner date. Spinach artichoke dip: this was phenomenal. Chips and dip were warm. Flavor was great. Not too cheesy. 4.5 stars for this. Only because every so often, I would get a weirdly stale chip-maybe three on my half of the plate. Mahi BLT: my date got this, and I snagged just one bite to taste. I'm not a huge fan of fish like this, but this was not bad. The mahi was not fishy, and the bacon was a little too salty for me. It overpowered the rest of the sandwich. Date really liked the tartar sauce that it came with. Regular fries that it came with were okay. Super crispy on the outside, but some of them seemed a bit undercooked on the inside. Good potential, I think they just need consistency. Filet mignon - medium: I am not much of a meat eater, but I was craving a steak today. My server recommended the sour cream mashed potatoes to go with my steak, so I subbed that in place of the fries. The steak was a bit smaller than I expected. And for the Carvery to call themselves a steakhouse, I expected a little more oomph to the steak. It came with a drizzle of some kind of sauce around the plate. That really made the steak a lot better. The mashed potatoes were definitely sour creamy, but I just was not impressed. The steak also came with onion strings on top. They were perfectly crispy on the outside and the texture of the onion on the inside was perfect and sweet. The only downside to this, was that it was a little too salty on the outside. I felt like I had to take a drink of water after each bite of the onions. No dessert menu yet, so I couldn't try any. I didn't get a chance to try their cocktails either. Next time! read more

Me and my best friend went to the carvery again last week to celebrate a girls night out. We ordered some drinks, Mac and cheese for an app, she ordered the salmon and I ordered the shrimp scampi pasta. All the food was so good! The waitress we had was so inviting and positive it was a great night! She even offered us a little birthday treat because she saw my birthday was coming up! The food was excellent. We had the smoked prime rib. I've never had prime rib like it. It was very, very good. We added the roasted Brussel sprouts and grilled asparagus. Also, very good. My husband had the fish and chips. It was so much he couldn't eat it all. He said the coleslaw was good, also. The only reason 1 gave 4 stars instead of 5 was the atmosphere outside the restaurant. We were looking for a nice upscale restaurant. The street music was very loud. And we witnessed a man passed out in the street. Passersby tried to help until the Paramedics arrived. My wife and I decided to celebrate our anniversary at this restaurant for dinner and overall we had a great time. The drinks were great, the atmosphere was awesome, the live band was great! We ordered the brussel sprouts and ceasar salad as an appetizer. The brussel sprouts was excellent (not a big fan of them) but my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially with the sauce it came with made it even better. My wife and I decided to share the prime rib as the waiter suggested that it would be enough to split between my wife and I knowing that we also were wanting more drinks and desserts so that worked out. The prime rib was okay, nothing to complain or hype about. But I think next time we would definitely come back and try other entrees. As for the drinks they had some seasonal drinks on another paper, the banana nut old fashioned, my wife had their manhattan which were both great. I was worried about my drink thinking the banana would be too overpowering but there was a good balance. They don't have a dessert menu but we asked anyway and they do have desserts which it seems like its going on a trial period to determine to go on the menu. My wife had the creme brulee and even though the top layer of sugar wasn't as "crackily" it was really good. The customer service is great though, our waiter and the manager/owner kept coming over and checking on us and the drinks/dessert we had weren't official either so they asked how we liked it and would we recommend putting it on their menu and we both said yes and yes. So overall we had a great time, good music, drinks, customer service, and for the food we would like to come back and try more. We haven't given up on this place. read more

The good: Very nice atmosphere. Simple and just elegant enough for those discerning customers, but not snobby at all for those who want a simple meal in a nice little place. Also, the food that we had was quite good. No complaints whatsoever, just a commendation for them being well prepared. You get quite a large amount of good quality salmon when you ask for it on a salad! A+ there. The bad: The coffee... Our table ordered a Latte and a Cappuccino. Both lacked any creamy goodness. The cappuccino especially. It should've had a thick layer of froth, but it was brought out identical looking to the latte. In fact, there are NO flavor options when it comes to the coffees available. None. Not even a hazelnut, or any variety of bean. What gives? Both tasted more like a dark roast, almost black coffee. Rather bitter. But, if that's your thing, you may like it just fine. I'm no coffee expert at all. We both had less than half of the coffees we ordered, and won't be ordering again. But! Someone else may love them, so I won't hold it against them too much. The excellent: The service. Our waiter was very very polite, super well mannered, and catered to us more than efficiently. He didn't hover over us, nor did he abandon us for more than 15/20 minutes at a time (out of the 1 hour we spent there). We came here before going to see the Nutcracker. Reservation was early but glad we got one. The place filled up pretty quickly. The service was absolutely perfect. The food was delicious, and we were sad we couldn't finish it all. I asked for a replacement on my fries for my sandwich and chose the rosemary mashed potatoes that Jacob recommended when I asked between the 3. Hands down the best I've ever had anywhere. No cocktails for us, as we had a long night ahead of us but the list looked amazing. We will definitely be going back if we're ever in the area again. For apps we got brussel sprouts, which were very good, and French onion soup, which was less than stellar. It was too peppery; I'm a big pepper fan but I expect French onion to be on the sweeter side. Entrees - My date got the filet mignon and he said it wasn't very good. My husband made last minute birthday reservations on Wednesday for 10 people for Saturday evening dinner. "1890 Manhattan" it too was perfect. Everything I've eaten here has been perfection. This is a small corner Steak house, looks upscale and has a really laidback vibe.
