So I live in the area and went to check it out since I usually like specialty shops and noticed it while driving back home from Redmond. They lady that works there is very nice, and I liked the openess of the store, but that's about what I liked. Their beer selection is pretty good, but their wine selection is pretty awful. The wine person there is not very knowledgeable about his selection and he is very smug. He very arrogantly claims to have a unique selection that you can't find anywhere else, but I can find the same wines at QFC or Safeway for much much cheaper. Kendall Jackson is not an exclusive wine. I tried telling him I can find these wines at grocery stores for much much cheaper, but he said that's not true. Feel kind of bad for him. Besides that the selection is very limited and only domestic wines so I hope it improves but until then I will go to the other specialty shops with much better selections in Kirkland. read more

Came here with a couple of my buddies to check out their selection of beer, and was pleasantly surprised at the assortment they have in stock! Even though I am very particular with the type of beer I buy, I was able to find many of the brands I love. This shop also has a very spacious and comforting feel to it, which made the atmosphere very welcoming. It also helped that the owner was extremely nice. Excellent little shop. Has a ton of great craft beers in the large single bottles, and inside the cooler are six-packs of other great craft beers from all over the world. It can be a pain to get across 85th St during heavy traffic, but I'll still make the effort to go by there. Every time I go in they have some new selections from around the world. The craft beers on tap are a nice touch as well! Looking forward to seeing them grow over the years. read more

I've been looking all over for this one specific beer that someone said would be perfect for me. They have it. I tried a beer on vacation and have not been able to find it anywhere since. They had that,too. I was looking for something weird, how about a Butterfinger brown ale? That's my kind of weird. My wife doesn't drink beer, but she would have a hard time finding a cider she didn't like. I didn't know there were so many choices of cider. The guy behind the counter was nice. The folks walked in and they seemed cool, too. I am not a tobacco fan, but their cigar, oils and loose tobacco seemed pretty substantial. It's not near my house, but it's going to be a necessary pit stop when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Awesome bottle shop. Found it just driving by. Although hubby is a beer drinker, I was here to browse the ciders. There was a few cider varieties I hadn't seen before, even at Total Wine. Friendly & helpful staff. They even have beer & cider on tap, or will open up a bottle for you to drink while browsing. I think they will need more seating options & stuff to do (such as a tv or board games) before folks will take them up on that. Although there are some high tops by the window, it wasn't the most inviting place to actually stay and drink at (vs. other bottle shops we've been to), although that could have been because it was the middle of the day, not the evening, and completely empty besides us. I'd suggest they sell samples of the beers & ciders on tap for a reasonable price if they don't already, as folks may be willing to do that even if they don't want to have an entire pint. Most everything is cold, most everything is singles (although you can also buy 6 packs), and prices were quite reasonable (even compared to high volume places). Definitely my kind of place. I bought a cider I had never seen before for several dollars less than that brand typically runs for (maybe it was a sale though as it was the last one left, by the cash register, despite it being newly released). Hubby bought a couple beers. Looking forward to coming back when we're in the area. read more

Wow! I just had my worst customer experience I think I've ever had, and I'm not speaking in hyperbole. I've had better experiences with Comcast, and we all know how everyone loves to hate Comcast. I purchased their $25 Groupon option on May 31st (with an expiration date of 9/28) to include a pint, a flight, a growler fill, and a Signature Sandwich (?) for dine-in or takeout. Being the procrastinator that I am, I had a friend meet me there on the afternoon of 9/26 to get in under the wire. Upon mentioning the Groupon, the lady working there (seemingly the only employee there at the time) told me bluntly, "we don't do the Groupon any more." Well, uhhh, you did the Groupon back in May, and this hasn't expired yet. That was of no significance to her. She only argued with me for the next 10 minutes as to why they wouldn't honor the Groupon, and claimed that it was bad for business. NEWSFLASH: Groupon has a wide reach and a large audience, and it's bound to bring more people into your business. The only thing about The Cave that was "bad for business" was this lady's attitude and her unwillingness to honor a valid, unexpired coupon or provide any concessions as an alternative. People, there are so many better nearby places to go that will actually appreciate you as a customer. In order of distance from the Cave, here are some quality options for craft beers that won't make you feel like you're an inconvenience to the owner's day: 1. Pub 85 (literally across the street) 2. Thirsty Hop (1.2 mi, South on 132nd, West on Old Redmond Road) 3. Flatstick Pub (1.9 mi, West on 85th St, down into the Kirkland Marina) 4. Black Raven Brewing (2.2 mi, East on 85th, left on 148th, left on Willows) 5. Malt and Vine (2.7 mi, East on 85th, onto Redmond Way, in shopping plaza before you reach McD's) 6. My house. I keep an impressive assortment of craft beers on hand to share with friends. Pretty disappointed with the ownership of this establishment. My husband, my dad and I worked hard all day in the back yard in 85 degree weather. In honor of that and our love for craft beer, he surprised me with an awesome Groupon for The Cave. So, after all our work, we changed, grabbed our dog and walked down to the store. They have an okay selection of local brews and a shaded outdoor seating area, which was perfect. We get there, go inside to redeem our Groupon and the owner refused to honor it or make any concessions for us. In a rude and smug demeanor, she said that Groupon should just give us our money back. We left empty handed and disappointed. The only positive was that our dog got in a great walk! read more

I came here to get some work done at a dog friendly spot during the few hours I have free between jobs. After purchasing a $6 beer and paying tip, I'm about to get kicked out because the woman working needs to pick her kids up from school. What??? This place is supposed to be open until 9. I'm not pleased about being kicked out mid $7 beer. Now what do I do? Risk a DUI because some lady decided to have kids and her kids can't take a school bus home? Great. Thanks, guys. I love the selection. I always find rare stouts which I love. I make sure to stop in to check out what they have in the fridge every time I am visiting from the Bay Area. I heard that originally the cigar portion of the store was larger but they modified it for the customers. I met the couple who run the place and they are very nice. They listen to the customer's wants. Last time my mom and I had beers from the tap while lounging in their sitting area. The games are a great touch. I hope they do well for many years to come. Been here many times. Great selection, great service, good prices. I'm glad it's by my home. I'll likely be buying most of my beer from this place from here on out (especially if I'm looking for a variety, which I usually am). Their semi-recent remodel/upgrade has made the place even better, with food options and growler fills and a seating area with TV etc. I've been asked several times if there's anything I'd like to see on the shelves that they don't already have. Seems they actually care about catering to the needs/desires of their community. I remember one time I asked the clerk for a recommendation, told him I prefer IPAs on the fruity side, and he recommended one that is now among my top 4 favorite IPAs. My *only* "complaint" is that a few times I've gone in looking for a specific brew, only to find that they no longer have it in single bottles (only 6-pack). However, I don't necessarily blame them for this: they are a business, and part of their goal is to introduce people to new beers, so they don't have room in their display fridge for EVERY single label. I can't really fault them for this. They still get 5 stars from me. Bottom line, they've earned my business. Update: 7/9/17: Seems they're having problems with their Groupon: I went in today with a friend who had the Groupon, and they said they're no longer honoring the Groupon - and, yet, they're still selling the Groupon...........um.......am I missing something?!? Bartender said something about the Groupon being bad for business, unhappy customers, etc. Others have commented on how the groupon is a bait-and-switch. I don't necessarily disagree with this. I was content with the Mac n Jack fill (the only that that was 100% covered by the groupon), but anyone looking for a different beer would have to pay more, which I can see as deceiving (even if the business did not intend to deceive). I understand that a Groupon campaign may end up being bad for business (especially if people don't come back), but I have been to this place many times and have given them a fair amount of business, so it's disappointing to be refused. Plus, on a more objective note, a great way to lose customers and have your business go under is to not take care of your customers and not honor their legitimate coupons, Groupons, etc. Because of this, I'm lowering my score to 2/5. read more

Personally, I would say stay clear to go there for a beer on tap or customer service. I'm not sure about their selection as I had the most rude person help me I refused to look around and give them any more money. But even then, based on their ethics, I wouldn't go there at all. I came here with a groupon. It was for a pint of beer, a flight, a sandwich, and a growler fill to go. Like I said, the person working the bar was one of the most rude people I have ever encountered. While I was telling her what I wanted in my flight, she literally turned and had a full on conversation with her friends that walked in, leaving me mid sentence. This happened multi times. I redeemed my groupon first for my flight and sandwich, thinking what I get in my pint will be what I liked best in my flight. After she poured my flight (which was half foam, horrible pours) and ordered my sandwich, I went to bring my flight to my table. I can't even being to express the tone that came out of the ladies mouth at this point but she very rudely said "you don't expect me to bring you your sandwich, right?". I replied with no, I was just bringing my flight to my table. Uhhhh. Also, the least of the problem at this place, that sandwich was the most dry stale thing ever presented to me. After I finished my flight, I went up for my pint. Again I was greeted with someone more interested in her friends there and extreme attitude thrown my way. I am a very patient person, but at this point, I was pissed. After my pint I went up to fill my growler when she told me it only covers up to 9.99 for the fill. NO WHERE in the groupon does it state that, so I question her. She flat out said "I make up the terms and conditions once you are in front of me, groupon doesn't want to know these limitations" I again questioned her saying there are plenty of groups that will state up to a certain amount (and mind you, all the growlers were 19.99 or more so either way, if I wanted the fill, I would be paying more), and she started to straight up ARGUE with me. She said they have some fills that are 29.99, and there is "no way in hell you would get that for free". It's not for free, I paid at a discount. She also continued to say she doesn't need to include these limitations because "they don't warn you that you will be paying tax, but you do." Overall, the entirely experience was extremely frustrating. I would never support a company with such low ethic business practices. First time in tonight. Love IPAs, they have 2 on tap. I ask beertender his opinion and said I'll try it. I didn't like it at all ( and I will drink almost any IPA). Asked for a sample and then a pint of the other which was awesome! Got my check with both beers on, though it was clear I only had 2 sips of the first and said I really didn't like it. I paid for both, saying "nice 1st impression"! There are too many good places to drink good beer! I Will not be back and will tell friends to skip as well! read more

I feel like the owners hand pick the beers and really give a crap about getting good stuff. It's not huge, it's not BevMo, but if you like craft beer you should have no issue finding something here you like. Just had an overall very poor experience here. Was looking for something interesting to check out with a friend and we also wanted to pick up some cigars since my buddy had never had one before. He's really hot craft beer so we figured we'd kill two birds with one stone. The sign still says "craft beer & smoke" even though I guess they haven't been selling cigars for a long time. They just have a humidor filled with tap handles now. The selection was good but the prices were just average or worse. I picked up a rice stout in a can and my friend ended up getting a beer on tap. We sat down at the bar and I opened my beer only to be immediately told AFTER I'd opened the beer by the bartender that I'd have to pay an uncorking fee. Ended up just feeling like a really cheap way to get $2 out of a customer. Ended up just paying it but was very tempted to leave the barren cave with my opened beer instead. Kinda just hope this place goes under. read more

This is a very fun place. Took me a while to decide to stop in, but I'm so glad I did! The employees (owner?) could not have been more friendly and fun to chat with while we were enjoying a "sampler" of their beers and ciders. If you want a "complaint" it's that they have SO many options in there it's hard to know what to buy! Just more of a reason to keep going back I guess! You should definitely check them out! read more
