It's not the most amazing breakfast you'll ever experience, but for a beach/tourist summer spot like South Haven, you'll be surprised by their menu and you won't do better without leaving town. I can recommend the quinoa or New Orleans oatmeal for the healthier folk. The quinoa came with plump ride cherries, brown sugar and a side of milk. The oatmeal is covered with bananas and has the candied pecan option. We also tried the blueberry stuffed French toast, which is quite decadent with it's marvelous blueberry cream cheese. Very very good. But only giving three stars because the eggs Benedict is average in comparison. And I have to second a previous reviewer: the food and menu reach above and beyond but then there are the low quality, pre packaged creamers and jellies on the tables.. And sub average coffee...Kind of half "cafe" and half "greasy spoon"... So ethic fs they do great, others just getting by. read more

Drove into South Haven hungry and came here directly for lunch based on the outstanding reviews. Having completed our meal, this place is over rated. Average at best. On the up side they do have a number of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. Though I am not a vegetarian, I chose the spinach burger. It ended up being fairly strange. Basically, spanakpita filling on a bun. Also, for 50 cents extra I opted for the sweet potato fries. The fries were truly disappointing. Completely flavorless, I think they came frozen out of a bag. Another in our party had the artichoke burger with pretty much the same experience as the spinach. My husband couldn't resist the chicken and waffles. This was also somewhat strange. Served with the chicken and biscuit gravy on top of the waffle with a bourbon maple syrup on the side. With gravy already, why would you also want the syrup?...Unless you are really pushing the heart attack. Service was quite friendly and they were super good at keeping iced teas full. read more

We stumbled upon Phoenix Street on our way back from Douglas this past Sunday. The restaurant was busy but we were seated right away. Fast service and our server anticipated all of our needs. Bloody Marys and mimosas, score! I had the gyro omelet served with a side of tzatziki. Very light, flavorful and I finished the whole plate! Great place to grab breakfast/lunch. The interior had an open but comforting feeling to it and the staff was very nice. Most of the menu consist of breakfast options, but their lunch menu has enough to fill your taste bud needs. I was torn between the crab benedict and the Texas rueben, but I ended up choosing the Texas rueben and was not disappointed. The smoked brisket was nice and tender which came apart easily without taking all the meat with each bite. The BBQ sauce and Swiss cheese complimented the toasted rye bread and brisket exquisitely for an excellent lunch. Sides consisted of a pickle spear and potato salad, cole slaw, or a few other items which was just the right amount of food to fill my belly without over stuffing it. read more

Our server was really sweet, she had two names and I can't remember either, I am sorry. She was very attentive and took good care of us. The food was just ok. I was really excited to try their breakfast and left disappointed. I would have been hungry as well, but my toast filled me up. I ordered the homemade corned beef hash. It was covered in green onion and some other green herb, perhaps parsley. I could not even taste the corned beef. I was trying to pick the corned beef and potatoes out from the green onions. It was nearly inedible. I was so sad. I could not tell you whether the corned beef was good or not. My husband got the pancakes, they were huge, fluffy and delicious. The eggs and bacon and toast were good. If those were bad, we would have had a real problem. I didn't return the hash, because I didn't want them to make me another one. It wasn't an issue with how it was cooked or getting the wrong thing, but just thinking what I got was not enjoyable to eat. I saw a photo of someone else's corned beef hash and it did not have nearly as much green onion as mine did. I thought I just didn't like what they were making, but it appears now that maybe I just got a poorly executed hash. Sad face. read more

3.5 stars is about right for this place. We came here for dinner over Labour Day weekend and were really surprised that it wasn't busier. I'm guessing because it's the wind-down of the season in the area? Anyway, we got there around 8ish and ended up closing the place. I had the pork chop and I think husband had the meat loaf. The food was quite good, and so was the dessert. The price was reasonable, too. We'd be back if we came back to South Haven. read more

The restaurant isn't very big so the tables are fairly close together. We went there with a large party (7 adults and 4 kids) so it's hard to tell if our large party affected the wait times. We had to wait for tables- which is understandable with a large party in a small restaurant. The hostess was very apologetic for the wait time (which didn't seem that long considering our party size) and she offered to seat us separately but quicker if we wanted (which we declined.) It seemed as though it took longer for us to order and get our food. We weren't very hungry before we arrived but by the time our food arrived, we were starving. The people working there were helpful and friendly enough. The waitress wasn't overly friendly and seemed a little frazzled/stressed with our party but she was polite enough and brought us everything we needed/asked for. As for the food, it seems as though breakfast and lunch/dinner are available at the same time. We went around brunch time 11-1 and were able to order from both menus. I'm not sure if it was because we were so hungry or what but everyone at our table seemed to enjoy what they ordered. I had the artichoke burger which I thought was pretty good. The feta taste was very faint. I would've liked more feta but that's because I love feta. I had a taste of the California Benedict and Crab Cake Benedict and they were both delicious. My one complaint would be the bathroom. It's very small and poorly designed. When you use the diaper changing station, no one can come in or out of the bathroom because the changing station blocks the door from opening. It also blocks one of the stalls from opening so if someone is in there, they have to wait until you are done changing the diaper- a bit of an inconvenience for everyone. And since there are only two stalls, using the diaper station causes quite a line. Oh and the banging of the stall door and bathroom door on the changing station scares the baby. read more

This is your typical breakfast hole in the wall but I'm rating based on food and service. I guess we had a little bit of a head start because the waitress caught me timing her. As she place our water glasses after filling our coffee cups she noticed the timer on my phone going....Oops, then she asked, are you timing me. We denied it but I think she knew knew all the better. My wife was taken back by her comment but we waited to see what happened. The reason we had the timer running was because previous reviewers said service was slow. After about 7 minutes from taking our order, the food came. As she set down the plates she said, my timer said 6 1/2 minutes. We just politely giggled. I gotta say, 6 - 7 minutes is quite acceptable. My wife and I both had the boaters breakfast which was ham, sausage, bacon and 3 eggs over easy including fried potatoes. All was very good, considering comparing all hole in the wall breakfast places. The breakfast was very good and the service was timely, I wonder if the running timer had any influence.. We would go back seeing as we have been here just about every time we are in town.. read more

My favorite place to get breakfast in South Haven! Quick service and wait staff are both excellent. Gyro omelet, biscuits and gravy and cinnamon swirl cakes are all very good. It can get busier around 10/11, but for the most part we always get seated right away. read more

The service was great, the server was great at checking on tables, and the food was very well prepared. The only issues that arose was the potatoes and one of the orders. The potatoes were bland, recommend adding a little seasonings for taste, and presented as if tossed into the plate. And one of the orders was prepared wrong but was taken care of on the final bill. My boyfriend and I stopped at Phoenix Street on our way home from the Lake Michigan Circle Tour and were pleasantly surprised after searching for "breakfast near me" on our way out of Holland. It's located in a nice part of the South Haven downtown area surrounded by shops. I expected there to be more coffee choices, but they only do hot coffee with half and half and sugar. Our server was kind enough to offer to put my coffee over ice, but I didn't end up enjoying it. I was underwhelmed by the amount and variety of menu options and ended up ordering the Phoenix Street Breakfast which comes with 2 eggs, bacon or sausage (patty or chicken links), potatoes, toast, and an optional biscuits and gravy for a $3 up-charge. The bacon was thickly cut and cooked perfectly, the potatoes were high quality and thickly cut as well, and the toast was a high quality bread rather than a typical pre-sliced white bread. The biscuits and gravy were incredible; the biscuits tasted homemade and the gravy was seasoned perfectly with a little kick. We will definitely return on our next trip to South Haven! read more

This cafe has a homey feel to it and has the best breakfast in town. And although they don't serve alcohol, it is still a fun restaurant to be in. It is also perfect for families with small children. Had brunch and drinks here all weekend because it was a short walk from the condo we stayed at. The brunch is good. The drinks are hit and miss with who is making them, I guess. They take your number and shoot you a text when your table is ready, which made the hour wait good since the 6 of us could just wait at our condo then when they were ready to seat us walk down. Phoenix Street has been a staple with my family visiting South Haven for 15 years! We love coming here because of the staff and the food! You can never go wrong with The (B.E.L.T) sandwich, it will blow your mind. Biscuits and gravy are great, the specials on the board always have a great twist to them. The Ruben sandwich and Turkey Cranberry sandwich are always great lunch choices as well. The owner and the incredible wait staff are always friendly and helpful. My kids know most of them by name! Good enough that we went twice on our visit! Fresh and delicious. Able to work with GF, gluten free. Shelley is a great server. Checked on us frequently even though the second time we went, they were in the middle of a rush and almost every seat was full with people waiting. I would have had a difficult time not being short with people just due to the stress but she was so kind! Over both visits we had the cinnamon cakes, tofu scramble, corn beef hash, GF pancake and French Toast. All delicious although French Toast a bit small. This is a classic little hometown diner style restaurant. They have a pretty decent menu selection and some additional specialty items. I think that it was slightly over-priced for what it was. I got the California burger, which had good toppings, but the burger itself wasn't that great. The fries were good and my husband reports that the gyro was good.
