Enjoyed my first visit here today for Sunday brunch. The staff was super friendly and took extra care to help accommodate the needs of my elderly mother which I really appreciated. Food was good overall. I really enjoyed the smash burger special they had today and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the potato salad side was. The Rueben sandwich was also quite good. Before visiting friends in St. Joe, we stopped off for lunch at Phoenix Street in South Haven. My girl ordered the broccoli & cheese omelet (which came with smashed potatoes and toast) and I chose the Reuben sandwich (which came with fries). We were both very pleased with our meals. I remarked at the time that I loved the seasoning on the fries, and that the Reuben was one of the better ones I had eaten recently. It was stuffed with corned beef. I can't say that service was problematic. The server was not the most welcoming person but she was efficient and she stayed busy. It seemed she had the bulk of the tables in the restaurant. On a Wednesday the dining room was less than half full, and we were seated immediately when we walked in. The dining room looked simple in its construction. Blown insulation on the ceiling, a painted concrete floor, and seating that included chairs and benches. My girl, always sensitive to room noise, observed that the chair legs had some sort of cushioning, so that there was none of the scraping sounds that metal chairs on concrete floors make. The server was nice to the table next to us and had charm with them but treated us with no hospitality. Maybe it was because my friend was Mexican and she was racist. She had purple hair. The Hollandaise was very light on flavor and was likely a pre-mix which is to be expected at this type of place. Should have asked for medium poached. We order our meal and waited at least 30 min for our food to come out. We checked out Phoenix Street on an early Saturday morning before hitting the beach and it was perfect! Portions are large, the atmosphere is great and the service is decent...it felt a little slow but hey, some Saturdays are, am I right? Know walking in that this place is going to fill up quick on a weekend! I recommend you get there early and get your breakfast on before the crowd hits. Check out the large chalkboard of specials and what they have going on, we missed this and definitely passed up an awesome omelet by accident. The gyro omelet is AMAZING! Despite pretty great reviews the service was terrible we were called to a table that hadn't been cleaned off yet, the server was working there as a volunteer so I expect that the pandemic staff shortages are a big part of the issues we had here. Long wait times for food, inattentive server that had to be reminded for pretty basic things (we were given one too few pieces of silverware and had to ask a third time when our food came out for it.) Food was tepid temperature wise which made it seem like it had sat in the window for awhile before coming out. Even after cleaning the table it was pretty dirty. We ordered the French toast, chicken and waffles and the California omelet and it all tasted pretty bland for how pricey it was. The chicken on the chicken and waffles could have been Tyson chicken strips and I wouldn't have known the difference. read more

Decent place for breakfast in downtown Southhaven. The staff is kind and service was not slow, we had an attentive server who kept our coffee cups filled. Fabulous! Ok, this place was well organized chaos! We did get seated immediately at a small table almost right next to the restrooms. We scooted over to two empty seats at the counter and I'm glad we did. We were soon waited on by a young man who should have been in the movies. My wife would not admit that this added to her culinary pleasure. What followed was one delicious breakfast. My wife and I both had the standard eggs, toast, potatoes, and sausage. I have no idea how they did it, but with not overly large portions, they managed to make this a most flavorful and satisfying meal we were absolutely stuffed! One piece of thick marbled rye toast, two extremely flavorful sausage patties, and the potatoes could best be described as chunks with the skins on. We didn't eat another meal all day! Although, since we were in the heart of craft beer country, there may have been liquid meals later in the day... South Haven is a great little beach town and this was a great way to start the day. Casual place to get breakfast or lunch. This was our second time here, the first time several years ago. We had an early Sunday lunch today. It looked like most of the other diners were having breakfast. The menu isn't huge and has unique options. I had the turkey cranberry crunch sandwich (pictured). They have a BLT that allegedly comes with 1/2 lb of bacon! Thank goodness for the lunch special (brisket sandwich) otherwise my picky husband would have probably made us leave because there is nothing else on the menu he would touch.
