ONE OF THE RUDEST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCES EVER! I am a regular customer here and decided to come here tonight with my Wife, Son, Nephew and Brother In Law at 6:30pm. After a rather long wait to be seated we were escorted by a tall guy with blonde hair and a man bun to a table in a small room even though we asked for a booth. On the way to that area we noticed many open booths we could sit at and wondered why they didn't sit us at a booth. When we said we wanted a booth he brought us back to the hallway of the dining room. This is where Kathy (brunette older lady with glasses) said to us that we "wouldn't fit." After she went back and forth with my brother in law that we wouldn't fit about three times she rudely said give it a try. She was very rude looking at my wife and I from head to toe with disgust implying that we wouldn't fit because we were "too fat". I'm a big guy (but no where near needing doorways cut open or Richard Simmons coming to see me) but I have never had a problem fitting in a booth with all the same people we were with tonight. My wife is also pregnant and she felt humiliated by Kathy's snarky and judgmental comments, tone and body language. We were sat at a booth and guess what Kathy.....? We FIT comfortably with room to spare! But you knew that... because you magically ghosted from the dining room for quite some time. When you finally came back out to the dining room we could see you giving us dirty looks after one of your coworkers told you that we were upset by your poor interaction with our party. Working in a restaurant isn't easy I get it. But you are in a hospitality business and that means you treat your customers with respect and kindness. Instead of your coworker coming over and trying to make excuses for your judgmental comments and unprofessional behavior you should have just apologized to our party and I wouldn't have made this a public issue. I'm not one to want free food or anything like that.... All we wanted was an apology from YOU Kathy. No excuses from your coworkers. This location lost us as customers for good. If you are pregnant, chubby or big and tall and don't want to be judged I recommend going elsewhere to spend your money to dine out. Kathy's fat shaming attitude should be avoided at all costs. read more

Wow. I am disappointed. Went to the chateau for Valentine's Day dinner tonight. Have been here many times before, and was great. Our waitress (don't know her name as she never introduced herself) was rushed, rude, and all over the place. Older woman with long dark hair, probably 5 ft tall. She messed up our drink orders, forgot a dessert even though she said back to us "two lava cakes" and when I tried to tell her all we wanted at once, ex: two refills on water, boxes, and the check, she said "well I'll get the drinks and then be back, I can only do one at a time" but then came back with boxes! Food was cold, probably due to sitting waiting for her to deliver it, she kept putting her dirty tray in front of us on the table to deliver things, which left no room for the food to be placed on the table. Also the bottom of her tray was smeared with sauce, and someone else's bar ticket got stuck to our table when she picked up her tray. Gross. Use the tray stands. That's what they're for. And there were several behind us lined up on the wall. She dropped off the bill, then hovered around for the money, I said oh one sec, she came back again two minutes later, while we were still eating out dessert, and had her hand out. I said oh I will be right with you...no, she did not get a good tip. Purposely. Tips are for decent service. She ruined the night. I went to warm the car, my older children (mid 20's) were still talking at the table, she picked up the cash and said "are you kidding me?" Under her breath, and then complained to her co workers she got a small tip. Not sure what her name was, but his is clearly not the job for her. It put a damper on the night. And reflected VERY poorly on the entire business. read more

I went to the Woburn location. The choices were good. Nice Combination choices. Food was good, not great. I would go again as it was easy to get to and had plenty of parking. I enjoy the food more at Polcari's in Woburn. Sabatino's in Medford is much better, but only has street parking read more

The Chateau restaurant used to be a good place to get takeout but lately it has been horrible. Last saturday we ordered take out and the chicken parmigiana was awful. The pasta was over cooked and the sauce was lousy. My wife ordered chicken supreme and we got half the order. I had to go back and get the sides. This has been the second time we have had a terrible meal. I understand the pandemic pushed everybody back a few steps but I don't think we will be back. read more

Completely rude and unaccommodating staff. Went to dinner there this evening and the place was pretty much empty at 4:30. We soon found out why. Asked the hostess for a seat by the windows and she flat out said no. So she very smugly sat us in a section right next to the kitchen and began talking smack about my partner and me with her fellow waitstaff, right within earshot of our table. If she was a guy I'd probably have thrown a punch. It was that rude and homophobic. We didn't even wait to see how horrible the food and other service might be. The other reviewers weren't lying--everything at Chateau comes swimming in a red sauce. I went recently with a group of 7 after 2pm, when the restaurant was pretty empty. The server asked us if we had a reservation--we told her we didn't. "Wait here," she said, leaving us exchanging glances, wondering if they would seat us or not. She finally returned, grabbed some menus and sat us at one of several large tables. After taking the first person's order, our waitress abruptly dashed away, saying another table's food was up. We waited, again exchanging confused glances. She came back and continued taking our orders. The food came out quickly--which was surprising. I opted for the eggplant parm and subbed in a side of toasted ravioli. It was.. drowning in the red sauce. Our group left stuffed, though not satisfied. Ergh. I love the Chateau. BUT every time I do pick up they mess something up. I even check the bags to make sure the food count is correct. No dressing with the salad, I order Trio 3 and got penne instead of a meatball, asked for extra blue cheese with buffalo tenders and got none. Definitely impressed by some of the food here! They have some of the tastiest Fried Calamari ever! It is very non-rubbery and super fresh tasting. It comes served over a bed of jalapeños, banana peppers, and roasted red peppers. Served with a marinara sauce on the side. Get some!! Let me start off by saying I wish I could give 0 stars!! I went here last night with my family and was told it would be a 30-45 minute wait as we had a big party which was fine. We were then seated in a back room and were told our waiter would be right with us. We weren't even being acknowledged after sitting so long, not I'll be right with you, no apology nothing. After 30 minutes we were noticed by the waiter. Then in the middle of taking our drinks another woman interrupted, she then said she needed to be back to serve some hot food to another table and just walked away. At that point it was the last straw! Very rude very unprofessional! I do not recommend going here. This place is legit amazing. We lived in the area for 5 years and never had their pizza. Needless to say when we ordered pizza this summer during their $8 pizza Wednesday specials we've made it our weekly treat to get their pizza. Their dinners are perfect and some are easily shareable as the portions are huge. Their meatballs are truest authentic and their trio's are our favorite. They are super efficient during COVID and have contactless pick up and pay options. Although we haven't ventured into the restaurant to sit and eat since COVID it was always very good experience. I've been a long time customer at The Chateau in Andover. The last couple times the service at the Bar was terrible. We went tonight 08/15, female bartender was terrible, walked by me several times without even looking at me. Male bartender was picking up her slack, so he had difficulty, forgetting to bring my bread after I asked and serving my dinner without utensils. Two other parties were complaining about the same things, one party walked out. I"m not sure I'll be back, better service in the area. The Clam Chowder is second to none. From Ipswitch, MA all the way down to NYC, even Legal Seafood's doesn't compare. My wife Shirley and I have been coming here for years and it's about time we gave a review. We've eaten everything from Lasagna to Sirlion Tips, or Lobster Shrimp and Scallop Diavalo to the Chichen Parmasean. The service is Great the food is Great and the ambiance is Great. Worst takeout ever! We were visiting from out of state and the restaurant was nearby. Overpriced and terrible food. The chicken parm was like rubber, the pasta was over cooked and mushy, the salad didn't include enough dressing and they gave us no utensils! I should include that when I went to pick it up, there were 30-40 people waiting to be seating and there was absolutely no regard for social distancing. The staff did not address this at all. I was in the mood for pasta so a friend let me know about The Chateau. I grew up driving by the Chateau sign on the highway and I had never had the chance to dine in. Overall a good place with decent food. Big sitting areas and a big bar area as well. While it might seem fancy in a way it's a very casual place. For dinner I had "trio #2" which was lasagna, chicken parm, and alfredo. It tasted really good, and very filling! Fried ravioli with the meat sauce was so good as well! Very cheap prices. It has been some time since I'd been to this restaurant ...met up with a friend who suggested we go here. Due to past experiences I would never have made the decision to go to The Chateau... But anyway. A busy Friday after work and as always the parking lot was jam packed. I'm sorry, but I just can't understand why? From the moment I walked in the door the aroma of cooking oil, along with heavy red sauce just completely turned me off. It's happened before & has absolutely killed my appetite. Tonight it happened all over again. Luckily we sat at the bar & the aroma wasn't as bad. A friendly bartender took our drink order. When served I was surprised that mine ( diet cola & Capt Morgan) was served up in such a small glass similar to a dessert one .. strange! Usually I'm given a tall glass. Anyway, there they were. One sip & what? Where , oh where is the alcohol? What can anyone do to such a simple drink? Well.... This one was awful & obviously lacking in rum. My companion ordered a salad... Nothing for me, thank you. Apparently it was ok because it was eaten. We didn't stay for a second round... It just wasn't worth it. I haven't been in a long time, as I've moved out of the area. Last night I was fortunate enough that my husband was taking our 5 kids out, so after my 4th shift in a row as a nurse during this awful pandemic, I decided to take myself to dinner on my way home from Winchester to Nashua. I was promptly seated in the bar as the main dining area was closed. It was a cozy booth and very private. I wish I had caught my server's name, because she made the experience. The Monday night special was chicken Parmesan with pasta and either a soup or salad app with bread and butter. The soup choices were Italian wedding or minestrone. I asked my server how was the Italian wedding soup. She told me it was good, but if I didn't like it, she would be happy to replace it with minestrone or a salad!! Who does that?!? The soup was burning hot and delicious!! So good that I ordered a quart to go for my kids. My chicken parm and pasta was amazing. Al dente pasta, cutlet with crispy edges. Service perfect, drink always filled. When it was time to go, my server went above and beyond packing extra bread as I had told her in conversation that I had 5 kids. It was an amazing, relaxing experience. Whomever served me, I hope you read this you were wonderful!! I sat in the bar section, near the bathrooms. Alone. Listening to my kindle. The food is great and the services is equally great but the reason for this review is because of the way they handled a situation today. I had a large gathering planned for Mother's Day and ordered catering trays of food. A big order. Unfortunately, COVID hit and we discovered it just hours before our pick up time which was 11:45 am. When the restaurant started answering the phone at 10 am I told them the situation expecting to have to pay something because of the unavoidable short notice. Michelle, the general manager, was great! She allowed me to cancel the order and get a full refund on my credit card. I am so relieved... They have a happy loyal customer! Stopped in after a medical appointment in Boston with Ward's Mom (MIL). Haven't been here in forever (2015 according to my last review). Tuesday is "Kids Eat Free Night" we discovered. The place was BUSY. Menu varied, Italian stuff, pizzas, steak tips & seafood. PRO - Seated quickly & they had my favorite kind of wine. They had MIL's as well. She actually said 'this is good". Waitress brought us nice fresh thick cut slices of Scali bread with (sadly)rock hard butter. MIL got a turkey club sandwich. Nothing to write home about with deli turkey but she said it hit the spot. I ordered the "new" Cod Piccatta over angel hair pasta with mushrooms. It was really good! Tasty, lemony sauce, lots of mushrooms & capers & a nice piece of sauteed or baked cod on top. Was enough to take some home for lunch today. CON - See above about it being Kids Night? It was busy & NOISY. Food took a good while to arrive & the fries with turkey club were totally just average. Our waitress was super busy (lots of tables & we were on the furthest edge), so we had to flag another waitress down to get MIL some extra mayo for her sandwich.The bill took a good while as well. The slow service dropped my review down a star. Wasn't her fault, she wasn't goofing off, she was just too busy. Management should put another waitress on. SO - I was pleasantly surprised. That piccata sauce was very tasty. I'll definitely give it another try soon, but not on a Tuesday night. If you got young kids, definitely give it a try. We held my parents' 50th anniversary party in the Tuscany room, which was large enough for our party and felt more elegant than the main restaurant. I believe our servers were Cindy and Becca. They were very helpful when we were setting up and throughout the night. The food was good and everyone had a nice time. If you would like to have a major event ruined, then you need to come to the Chateau for the event. We recently stopped to celebrate the 65th wedding anniversary of my parents. Front desk did a good job of getting our part of 12 seated fairly quickly, unfortunately that was the highlight of the evening. We only had one waitress for such a large party and are requests for extra help was ignored by the waitress that was assigned. It took over 30 minutes just to get our drink orders placed and another 20 for the drinks to start showing up. When the drinks where being delivered the waitress had no clue who ordered what, was throwing napkins all over the place and just totally confused about the whole process. Appetizers and entrée orders where placed as we had already been at the table for over an hour. Of course, they both showed up at the same time, which is a major failure on the staff and kitchen. Have of the appetizers when untouched. The entrees came in stages as again we only had one person to cover the table of 12. For the most part the food was overcooked, bland and of such poor quality, it seemed like it would have been better served and sold in a can at a discount store. It is nothing better than mass produced imitation Italian cuisine being passed off as fine dining. The restaurant delivered a slice of cake to my parents with a candle to acknowledge their 65 years together, as a few others ordered deserts to go, since we had now been at the restaurant for close to three hours. When we completed the meal we waited and waited for the bill to arrive, once it came we reminded the waitress that we wanted the bill to be divided into separate families for payment. The bill came as one total price and we ended up arguing with the waitress for about 20 minutes to get it divided as we asked before the meal. At this point the waitress did not go about splitting the check, a very simple process in a computer system. Instead she started to write out what each person had ordered and then do the math herself. Needless to say this is so unprofessional and her total lack of interest was beyond understanding. She stayed and discussed why they don't breakout the checks, refused to get a manager after we repeated asked for one. On top off this almost three hour nightmare, I noticed that we got charged $4.50 for the cake that was delivered and truly never ordered. For a company to provide a celebration offering and then change it back to the ticket is just further proof that the company has lost its desire to serve customers. My advice for anyone is to avoid this restaurant and do everything possible to warn others of this poor excuse of a restaurant. read more

The food is the quality of any large chain restaurant Its frozen and clearly reheated with a jar of sauce thrown over it to cover up the shoe leather they call veal or chicken...each equally disgusting. Pasta was chewy and not cooked. This was crunchy and hard, not al dente. The fish is watery and dry. I have been for dinner and in a private rom for functions. Bad across the board. This place has become a victim of it's success. A once-really good restaurant has "chained" it's way (like Pizzeria Regina) to being, at best, mediocre. The Chateau started out in Waltham, Mass as a mom-and-pop restaurant serving some of the best and most reasonably priced Italian food in the Boston area. Eating there back in the 1980s, I remember the place being crowded, the food served hot and well above average (almost excellent). The waitstaff was attentive, the scali (Italian) bread was warm, unsliced and made on the premises. People showed up just for the bread. They sold a lot of it "to go." Fast forward to the second decade of the 21st century. The Chateau has multiple locations (each one of the children/grandchildren has their own property?). They have clearly lost their focus (Chicken Teriyaki in an Italian restaurant? Video keno in the bar?). The Andover location is packed with grandmothers dressed in a manner calculated to compete with their granddaughters and the quality of the food has dropped drastically. My dinner last Thursday was a party of four adults. Appetizers were soup, calamari Rhode Island-style (with spicy peppers) and cheesy garlic bread. Two of us ordered seafood, one ordered Fetuccini Alfredo with chicken and the fourth ordered spaghetti w meatsauce. Desserts had were cannoli and ice cream. Taking the lead of my friends, we all had water or soda. Dinner for four (with tip) was $145. Portion sizes were good. However, every item arrived lukewarm to cold; especially the side dishes of green beans and Florentine Rice. The only way the side dishes could have been colder would be to refrigerate them. The cannoli were room temperature. The only item served at the right temperature was the ice cream. Even their once-famous warm bread (now sliced) was cold. Our waitress was very busy but competent. If there were any "specials," she didn't tell us. However, with a menu the size of The Chateau's, I doubt there were any. My advice? Stop trying to be everything to everyone. The menu is at least three times too large. There is no way a menu as large as the one offered by The Chateau can be cooked to order. Go back to the things that made your family's original restaurant a success. I'm pretty sure that Nachos, Mac & Cheese and Chicken Teriyaki were NOT on Nana Nocera's menu. The Andover location, adjacent to I-93, has been many things over the years, including a comedy club. All these previous ventures ended in bankruptcy court. It's my fervent hope the owners are able to restore their restaurant to the quality of food their grandparents/great-grandparents served lest they wake up one day to an empty bar, the dining room a ghost town and find themselves as successful (or lack thereof) as the previous tenants of the space they now occupy. read more

It wasn't until AFTER I had my rehearsal dinner here a few years back for my wedding that I really came to appreciate this restaurant. The bread served before the meal is excellent. Always incredibly fresh, with crispy seseme seed crust. I could come and just eat bread and butter all night. But the best part about it which draws me here every time are the gnocchis in the creamy tomato sauce. I get it every time. I've also had their butternut squash raviolis on special - also delicious. I like this place for a good laid back evening. We opt to sit in the bar room every time because it's lively but surprisingly not overwhelmingly loud. There are TVs at each booth table in the bar that you can control which makes for a more interesting dinner out. I love watching TV from a TV tray at home, so this place is right up my alley. Come early if you're there to catch a seat with a TV during a sports game. Service has always been pretty good, with a few exceptions, but usually pretty fast seating and service. read more
