If you're a vegetarian, you should definitely avoid this place. And if you can't avoid it, you should make sure you check to make sure there is no meat in your food. I've been here a few times, and as far as I can remember, I've had problems with there being bits of meat (or more than bits) in my food. The only time I continued going there is because my parents really liked it for some reason, despite the rather mediocre food. Two experiences were particularly memorable (the first and the last). The first: I ordered the toasted ravioli and asked if it would be possible to get marinara sauce instead of meat sauce. I was told this would be fine. The meal comes out, and the raviolis are quite clearly covered in meat sauce. The waitress told me I ordered meat sauce, but, as my parents could attest to, I clearly did not. Why would I, a vegetarian, order meat sauce anyway? Exactly, I wouldn't. I think I wound up just getting the toasted ravioli without any sauce at all. The last: I had ordered some other things in between (none of them particularly memorable), and decided to try the toasted ravioli again - this time, hopefully, with sauce. I did the same as the first time, ordering the toasted ravioli with marinara sauce. When the raviolis came out, the sauce appeared to be marinara sauce, but I had learned not to trust this place, so I pushed the raviolis around a little just to check and, to no one's surprise, there were several chunks of meat in the sauce. I pointed this out to the waitress and explained that I was a vegetarian, and she was very apologetic, taking the raviolis away to get me a replacement. The replacement came with a visit from the manager, who apologized and said he watched the sauce being put on the raviolis and assured me that it was definitely marinara sauce. Well, as soon as the raviolis were placed in front of me, I saw a chunk of meat. Seriously? My dad was really angry at this point, and he gave the waitress a good rant. The waitress agreed that it was ridiculous that there was still meat in it. We speculated that perhaps the meat sauce was next to the marinara sauce and some sloppy person let some of the meat sauce fall into the marinara. The manager came back and apologized and said he would get us another toasted ravioli, but at that point, both my parents had finished eating and I had lost my appetite. So instead, he gave us a gift card and a free dessert, which is nice, but the gift card was pretty useless, as we're never going back. I think my mom just gave it to a friend. If not for the meat problems, I would be giving this place a three-star review. The food is okay, even pretty good sometimes - but it's just not worth the hassle or the risk for me. read more

It's been a long while since I've dined at The Chateau and during my absense, I had hoped things had improved. They have not. I went here again because my friend insisted that she had eaten a delicious chicken salad here previously. Understanding full-well that the Italian food here is dreadful, I decided to order a salad. To be more specific, I ordered a cobb salad. Where to begin...the eggs were overcooked having that ghastly green-line that indicates that they were boiled by a "cook" having no proper training. The chicken was bland, the avocado was there but barely, the bacon was clearly real but from a container and not freshly-prepared and crumbled, the dressing was some mess of a balsamic conoction which is not traditional or tasty. This restaurant simply cannot pull off a basic salad. The waitress was polite but had little personality and was just going through the motions. On a Wednesday for lunch, being located in a crowded business park the establishment was nearly empty. Is it any wonder why? My husband and I ordered veal parm with toasted ravioli and a side of meatballs and an order of lobster Mac and cheese. As my husband pulled into our driveway a young man from Chateau called to say he was pretty sure the Mac and cheese never made it into the bag. Sure enough it wasn't there. He said as it was paid for by gift card so he would send me a gift card for the $19.35, seriously you couldn't throw in the $0.65 to make it an even $20? The more I thought of it the more upset I got. I had nothing to eat. There were three items and one didn't make it in the bag. Last week we ordered out from Chateau. There was a problem with the computer and our order, as well as anyone else that ordered takeout never made it into the kitchen causing a huge back up. My husband had to wait over an hour for our order. To Chateaus credit they gave us the meal free. But you get what you pay for. In the rush to fix so many problems my haddock St. Germaine was pretty tasteless. I'm very disappointed that my meal didn't make it and that we were just refunded the money we paid. I'm hesitant to order takeout from Chateau again. Reimbursing the money spent for a meal we didn't get is expected, getting nothing for our inconvenience is very disappointing. :-( read more

My "rice Florentine" was a parslied rice (no spinach in sight) and my green beans were more greyish-green from being boiled to death. Can't they at least afford to serve fresh or frozen beans? Fast advice to The Chateau: -- Teach your cooks how to cook steaks to order. -- Take the Penne off the gluten-free menu. Wheat is wheat. -- While you're at it, take the haddock (or seafood) casserole with cracker crust off there, too. Ritz crackers are also made with wheat. We've been here a few times in the past and it's been great. I always get the chicken marsala. However, on this visit it was a not very busy Saturday. We joined the rest of our group who were already seated and it took at least 10 minutes for someone to ask us if we wanted drinks. I could deal with that, but the chicken marsala was not up to par as it has been in the past. The marsala sauce was so thick and cold. It is obviously premade but no one bothered to heat it thoroughly. It looked like refrigerated turkey gravy. I sent it back with the waitress and she brought me a new one. Under the chicken the sauce was the same. I sent it back with the manager who agreed it didn't look right. Didn't bother trying a third time. I didn't have time this weekend so i decided to order the 7oz steak with just broccoli because thats a great option for me. The Chateau is one of the best restaurants off of Exit 45, but then again, it has a near monopoly in the area, with only Chili's in sight. Despite the French name, the Chateau specializes in Italian American fare, of the red sauce variety. In a way, though, it is comforting, as this is the food that many of us grew up on. The special included a greatest hits of Italian American fare and for $12, you got manicotti, a meat ball and chicken parm. It was a lot of food at a low price but not great. Still, I will come here again as there isn't much around and the location is very convenient to the hotels in Andover. read more

When I lived in New Hampshire, I never stopped to eat here, even though we would drive by on our way to Boston all the time. Finally, my husband & I were out there on vacation and I intentionally made the point to go and have dinner there one night after a Red Sox game in Boston. It did not disappoint. I had the chicken parmesan and he had ravioli. The food was excellent as was the service. We went one other time driving home in a pretty bad snowstorm, and they were closing early, but we got there in time to have a late lunch. I had some kind of trio that consisted of chicken parm, a meatball and maybe fried ravioli. Again, everything was DELICIOUS. We pulled in to a full parking lot and we're told that there was a 30 minute wait. We were seated in 10 minutes and there were many empty tables. The waitress brought over cold, hard bread. We placed our orders with the waitress who seamed inconvenienced with our presence. Our food arrived 25 minutes later. My chicken pram, ravioli and fettuccine Alfredo came out freezing cold and tasteless. I waited for our waitress to return to ask how my meal was but she was nowhere to be seen. I finally asked someone else to send the manager over. He gave me a weird look when I complained but promised a new plate. He returned with a hotter meal and a coupon for $10 off. Since my meal was 16.99 that covered a bit of it. The portions were not huge and I now wish we had consulted Yelp first. We were never asked if we needed anything else or received drink refills. Second time here and still don't know what the fuss is about. We went when it first opened and thought it might just be new business jitters. Nope. The food is very American Italian. Think of Chinese American food and this is the equivalent for Italian food. I just don't understand the appeal. The portions aren't huge (usually a draw for some) and the price was not cheap. Comfort Italian food with a very large menu. I have been a patron for years and have had many great experiences there but even I have to admit when something is not the same. I'm not as big of a fan as I used to be. First the good: They have some great core products, such as the tomato sauce, homemade bread, chicken parm, toasted raviolis, etc. Their pizza is also very good. This isn't a chain created from a corporation like Olive Garden...it's a family owned business that started with one location and expanded over the years. It's kind of like how we view Pizzeria Regina as a chain vs. let's say, a Papa Johns. Also their bar area and overall vibe on that side of the restaurant is always an inviting place to be. Lots of TVs. Great bartenders. Like I said good times have been had. The bad: Service and overall management it seems has gone downhill, and consequently, the food quality too. It's sometimes not very hot when you get it or something simple like pasta has been overcooked. Is it under heat lamps back there? I've sometimes wondered if because their menu is so expansive if it has a negative effect on their ability to cook to order. We've also witnessed a couple people in our party get sick all at the same time shortly after eating their meals. Not a great look. And they haven't been back. Lastly, their prices have gotten RIDICULOUSLY expensive for what you are getting. Every time I go it seems I have to get a new takeout menu to bring home. It's to the point it's not worth going anymore despite the fact I love many of their dishes. I only hope they come back around, I miss going there as often as I use to. read more

My family and I decided to try this restaurant after driving by it for years. We ordered garlic bread to go with our meal - basically we received toast, very little garlic. I ordered a caprese salad, I received 2 thin slices of mozzarella, 2 very thin slices of not ripe tomato and 2 or 3 romaine leaves. It was priced at $6.95. A complete and total rip off! Then we ordered a trio that consisted of 3 toasted ravioli, a very small piece of chicken parmigiana and a very small,serving of fettuccine alfredo. They charged us $18.50 and again, RIP OFF!! I have never felt more uncomfortable and disgusted in my life, zero stars for me. To begin the night, my friend and I were being hit on by our server, Dante. Not to mention, I am a minor being sexually hit on and offered a drink. Dante was extremely unprofessional and made myself feel so extremely uncomfortable. I will say, the restaurant itself had delicious food. However, this isn't about the restaurant...this is about my experience with the server. His comments were inappropriate, cocky, and unprofessional. Dante forgot to give us our chicken for our pasta, that's one mistake...forgivable. Then, once dinner was completed and the bill arrived, Dante handed us the wrong bill and walked away. Good thing we looked over the bill, otherwise we would have been paying for 9 red wines, several blue moons and food that we didn't order. Dante never came back for the bill, after about 15 mins we asked another server to please grab Dante so he could give us our actual bill. Again, another mistake and Dante word for word said "I don't make mistakes" after he clearly made a few. We ended up getting the new bill. We handed Dante the bill with the card and he threw/slammed the bill and card back on the table. No exaggerating either, the slam was so loud other customers around looked concerned and scared, as I was. So we took our bill and card up to the manager to pay, then we overhear Dante saying to another worker that we were trying to walk out on our bill when he 1) clearly can see us with the bill and card in hand trying to get a manager to pay the bill to and 2) threw the bill back at us at our table and wouldn't accept it. I have had some bad servers in my life, but Dante was bad. The worst part is he won't be fired for this, but maybe they should check the cameras to see how unprofessional and disrespectful he has treated us. They messed up chicken parmesan not once but Twice. First the chicken was so old and lukewarm I couldn't cut it with a knife. I must admit I was nervous comming here after reading all the reviews, but this is where our family had their holiday get together today. I was impressed with the outside, very nice, can pull up to the door to drop people off. Inside is a little overwhelming simply because of how big it is, decorated very nice. I ordered the baked stuffed scallops, my daughter ordered the fried clams, my husband ordered the trio. The food was AMAZING! We were a party of 16 & we all loved the food! I'm only giving it 1 star because I have to in order to write a review. Had the WORST food poisoning I've had in I don't know how long. Knocked me off my feet for 2 days. Chicken looked cooked but I suspect wasn't. The sauce was heavy even though I'd asked for light. Add the inattentiveness of the wait staff and it wasn't a pleasant experience at all. We are a local family of 4, not someone floating in & out of hotels there. If you want something to eat try a good pizza delivery if you're visiting in the surrounding hotels. With that said, here I sit, clattering away on my iPhone (ok ok, the clattering is imaginary) composing this review in the restaurant to assure you the freshest possible details of my experience (perhaps the freshest thing in this restaurant). Let me start by asking, you the captivated audience of this post, how long would you expect it takes to cook chicken parmigiana, toasted ravioli and fettuccine Alfredo?.. Now I'm no chef, however I (and assuming you as well) may have expected some estimate greater than 5 minutes. I was taken aback by the speed at which my entree arrived I could only assume that my dinner was assembled from heated trays akin to McDonalds methodology. I was surprised to find out that their chef was actually none other than a retired superhero!!.. Ahh, I lied. In (disappointing) fact, as I sampled my "trio" entree I came to realize that I've had better microwaveable TV dinners. I'm sure the restaurant founders (a charming Sicilian couple) would roll over in their graves, zombify, return to the land of the living, see their portrait on the menu, and with a disgusted undead groan, proceed to rip apart and devour every person working in the kitchen. Extreme? I know! How's this for extreme? There's a Chili's next door and I'm kicking myself for not eating there instead. At least they cook their food to order. I expect my dinner may have been plated by a blind person before a quick "nuke" in the "micro" then enjoying a rest under the heat lamp for 4 minutes, prior to being brought to my table. Ok, so the food isn't good. Clear? Any redeeming factors? Well, an attentive waitress and a couple glasses of wine... Sounds about accurate. Even the host staff was miserable (I should have taken the hint). When I walked in there were three hosts, two of which were having a personal conversation about someone (likely a coworker) that they mutually disliked, and didn't get so much as a "yo" from either of them. I've had better Italian food at Caraba's or Macaroni Grill. I know there aren't a lot of choices in this particular part of MA, but in retrospect I may have been more satisfied with chicken Mc nugglets... If you feel I might be a little harsh, biased or what-have-you I'll leave you with this concise final thought: the restaurant is called "The Chateau - Italian Family Dining", so WTF is Chicken Teriyaki doing on the menu? read more

This was by far completely disappointing, you wait forever to get a table, and while waiting we got sass from the bartender, everything needs a major upgrade as this restaurant seems old as dirt, the salad had wilted greens and the pasta was over cooked.
