chicken brown meat is all i order her which is pretty good, Jessica at the drive through was great and always smiles when i pull up!! Dont bother ordering sides (coleslaw mayo with mayo, mac and cheese thats got ZERO taste aka orange stuff, spuds are ok, macaroni mayo mayo salad) they have day old chicken in fridge fyi which i bought just for making wraps which is inexspensive and tasty . I went to the Chicken Barn for the first time, because I had a Groupon. The certificate notes TWO $10 groupons. I read this as $20 worth of food, but the cashier would only redeem $10. I paid for 2 groupons and that's how it printed out. So I lost $10 worth. As for the food, not exactly the best fried chicken I've had, but isn't terrible either. I found the pricing to be fair, and the Chicken Barn offers daily deals too. In my opinion, the price of the kids' menu is over priced for what is served. My kids didn't seem to like the food as much as I had hoped. They had the nugget, 1 piece chicken, mac n cheese and spuds. The teriyaki bowl was good, but I wouldn't order again. I accept the fact most fast food will more often than not be greasy. I haven't needed to complain about my visits here. There's always a first, right? So I did a drive thru run and ordered the charbroiled chicken sandwich meal. Drove back to my office, opened the wrapper to find an itty bitty portion of chicken inside the large wheat bun. No joke they might as well have put 2 chicken nuggets together. I'm left to wonder 'who, how & why' would this be acceptable to serve to customers. Or maybe those nugget scraps are designated for drive thru only because they know you'll be miles away before you realize they jipped you. As Leo Getz would say, "They f*** you at the drive thru!" Chicken Barn is one of our go to places. The nuggets are my sons favorite. I think they literally drink the valley sauce because we always order extra and yet there's never enough. The staff is friendly and courteous. The only minor complaint I have is sometimes we have to wait awhile but hey for fresh food is that really so bad? read more

One Star is still pretty forgiving. If you want your order wrong and getting talked over and not get assisted then you've stopped by the right location. If you use any delivery services they will blame the delivery company before owning up to their mistakes. The associates were fine but the manager is a joke. He refused to give me his name when I asked and gave me an attitude. The have several menu items that have the same name and that's where it all started. They have two menu items that are different named the same and gave me a wrong order and did nothing to help me. So if you want to waste like $9 and get crappy service you have definitely chose the right location. The only way I knew the managers name was because there was a certificate stating the managers name for that location. Then Wesley, who is the manager, did not want to give me his managers number and said he could take my information down which I did not believe so I called the Oakdale location just to confirm that I did get the correct info. Its sad that this is a family ran business and the workers, sorry managers do not care as this is not this first time I had an issue but when I am talked over on the phone then have to drive over to make a point that is when I've had enough. I shouldn't have to always have my order wrong regardless if I ordered through DoorDash, drive thr or in person. The food is good but honestly the owners should actually find people who are customer service friendly not people who are going to give customers a hard time. So case and point go to Oakdale Rd because if not you'll leave irritated and $10 less rich and wished you would've went somewhere else. So thanks for a crappy lunch. read more

I grew up in the Modesto area going to the Foster Farms restaurants. I can not tell you how relieved I was to see that one store stayed open, renamed the Chicken barn. I live on the Central Coast now but ALWAYS stop at the chicken barn on the way to Mom's. Actually I usually make sure my trip goes through Modesto (even if it is a little out of the way) just to stop by the Chicken barn. Love the spuds and valley sauce and a regular chicken breast. The chicken is always juicy and skin is crispy. My sisters now live in Fresno and when they come up they take home huge orders of spuds. They freeze them and then rewarm them in the oven. So I worked at this place for over two years. This was my first job. And it was the worst experience of my life. I was told to cook food WITH BUGS IN IT. I wish I had quit sooner than I did. Basically I started out as a dishwasher, where you work from about 5:30pm-9:30pm scrubbing the crap out of dishes, using chemicals that adequate protection was not given for. They had paper thin plastic gloves that would rip in two seconds if you used them. I essentially had to get degreaser and oven cleaner all over my hands, which resulted in numerous cuts on my hands that would never go away. I pretty much lost my fingerprint. I never complained, and eventually I moved my way up to a cook position, monday-friday, 8:30-4. This was where the stupidity began. The owners, Roy and Amy, expect you to do backbreaking while they pay minimum wage. One of the main things that caused me to leave was the fact that they made me cook food with bugs in it. Yup. You heard me right. In the breader they used, the shipment was infested with flour bugs called weevils. And I essentially said to the owners that I'm not cooking food with bugs in it, and they told me either I do that or I am going to be fired. Yes. You heard me right. I had bugs all over my hands as I was breading the chicken. And when the food was finished cooking, you could see bugs cooked into the food, and they served it to people. I'm not lying, as farfetched as this sounds. Anybody who wants more information is more than welcome to ask me. After the bug incident, I experienced so much abuse. One of the managers would slam things whenever she would be next to me, and be EXTREMELY passive aggressive toward me. So when I asked the general manager to do something about this, the abusive manager exploded on me with nasty, hateful, personal comments. This ultimately caused me to leave. There were other terrible things I can say, like the fact that they essentially make you work after you clock out so that you get your stuff done. When I would cut myself cutting chicken nuggets and they didn't have any first aid, I would have to risk touching the chicken with bleeding hands/fingers so that I wouldn't be yelled at for not getting my prep work done. the chicken nuggets are advertised as 1 ounce, but I was told to weigh them to 0.9 ounces to save money because "customers can't tell the difference". Crazy stuff like that. The ownership does not care for their employees. They pay managers barely over minimum wage. There are cockroaches ALL OVER THE PLACE. I would NOT recommend this place to anybody. Please stay away. read more

I have been going to The Chicken Barn for over 35 years - since it was Foster Farm's. The food used to be very good - especially the Valley Sauce, which is a dipping sauce for the nuggets and spuds. However, since it has become The Chicken Barn, more specifically, since Wes has become manager, this establishment has been a declining disappointment. I see terrified employees (think class action lawsuit for a hostile work environment) and extreme penny pinching going on - to the point that condiments are behind the counter! It has been established that one would get two sauces for every 5 nuggets ordered, but according to Wes, regular math doesn't work for him and if you order more than 5 nuggets (say 2 meals), you still only get sauces for 1 meal. If you want more sauce, he will charge you. In addition, the menu boards have misleading information posted. On one sign it states that meals come with a side and a drink. On another, it states the meals come with a side and a biscuit. No meal comes with a side and a drink. The nugget meal is served with a side, a biscuit, and a drink. If you want honey with your biscuit, you better ask as they won't give it to you any other way. For those of you wondering what the famous Valley Sauce is (and don't want to have to fork over a small fortune to get what should have come with your order, but didn't, Valley Sauce is equal parts Ranch Dressing and Coleslaw Dressing. The store bought refrigerated kinds work best. Now, let's say you actually do manage to get the sauces you want. You have a really great chance of not getting all the food you ordered - especially if you went through the drive-through. Frequently, after ordering a large amount of food, and driving 30 minutes to get it home, we discover part of our order missing. To ensure you actually get the food you ordered, you probably want to go inside, but then you would get to see Wes glaring at all of the employees from the back. What fun! On to the Deal Saver Coupons! These come out in the Modesto Bee and seem like a great value - except they aren't really. Chicken Barn doesn't really want anyone to use them and makes it extremely inconvenient to do so. First, you may not use them in the drive through. Secondly, you must have all sorts of ID to use them, even if the coupon is a gift and you weren't the one to purchase it, you need to have ID (cash purchases, too)! For a company that seems to want business, they go out of their way to send customers away. read more

Don't really do reviews for fast food restaurants because I've never really though most of them serve anything close to real food. Chicken barn is one of those exceptions. This is real fried chicken. No secret ingredients, just honest fried chicken with crunchy skin that tastes great, and I'm generally not that great a fan of fried chicken. The biscuits are good, the mashed potatoes are good. I haven't really tried anything else. For me, biscuits and mash potatoes with gravy is what you eat with fried chicken. read more

The last time I came here was over 10 years ago when it was Foster Farms. I was craving some barbecue chicken so after reading the reviews, I drove up here from Stockton to eat since there is no place in Stockton that sells barbecue chicken that I know of. I was not disappointed. It was delicious just like I remembered it. I don't think they have changed much here. The chicken was great and so were the spuds. Beats KFC.
