Two pieces of fish, one jumbo shrimp, and chips combo
    Doug B.

We were at the Anaheim Packing District for a reservation at the Blind Rabbit and thought we would eat before at some of the various food places there. I had a rare itch for fish and chips so I chose the Chippy Fish & Grill for my food. They are located upstairs in the middle across from the main front entrance. They have a basic menu including items and combos with fish, shrimp, calamari, BBQ ribs, chicken strips, chips/fries (regular, garlic, or Cajun flavored), hush puppies, onion rings, and wings. They also have clam chowder and cole slaw. I ordered the two piece fish and one jumbo shrimp combo which also comes with fries. It only cost $3.25 extra to upgrade from one piece of fish to two and that seemed like a good deal. They give you a vibrating pager to let you know when to come back and pick up your order. Less than ten minutes later, the pager went off and I picked up my food which is served on a tray. The order pick area is about ten feet to the right of where you order. It came with cocktail sauce for the jumbo shrimp and two containers of tartar sauce for the fish. It does not come with malt vinegar be default, but they gave me two containers when I asked for it. There are a lot of places all over the packing district where you can sit and eat. The two pieces of fish and the jumbo shrimp were a generous size and battered just the right amount. Everything was fried well and cooked throughout. The fries were good although I usually like them a little more on the crispy side. They were fresh fried so I would ask for that next time. The food and sauces all tasted great. The two staff members I interacted with were friendly.

Decent fish and chip spot. Everything was freshly fried. I had the fish and calamari combo and it was pretty good. Upgraded ($4) to a beer for the combo drink. Some of the fish had a lot of breading. Cool selection of beers. FYI This place is located in the Anaheim Packing House!

Calamari rings were delicious -- lightly battered and fresh

Delicious! Before I start taking about the food, a huge shout out to the staff that works here especially the gentleman who was so kind, friendly, and attentive. The food was also great! I ordered something outside my usual scope of orders-- baby back ribs and the meat was nicely cooked and it came off the bone easily. I enjoyed the coleslaw, it was not overly sweet, it just tasted like fresh cabbage and the fries were good as well. We also ordered a side of calamari rings and they were wonderful! They're lightly battered and fresh. Overall, the portion size is large and I saved this for dinner. Recommend.

Came by tonight since it's been awhile since I've come to the Packing house. I stopped in and decided The Chippy was the place I was gonna chomp on tonight. I got the 1 piece fish and shrimp combo and it did not disappoint. The fish was sooooo crispy. The batter was amazing and not all gross and oily. The fish was flaky and melted in my mouth. When I squeezed a little lemon on that bad boy man o man did it hit the spot!!!! The service was quick and to the point. I didn't have to wait too long even though it was a Saturday night which seemed to be busy. And what better way to eat some fish and chips but with some live entertainment! There happen to be a band playing tonight so it made the vibes perfect! Over all I had some great food, great vibes and I would recommend this place fo'sho!

So good man!!!!! It smells amazing when you walk by! I saw a steady stream of customers walking up to grab their food. The fish looked great. I ordered some hush puppies and they were the best I've ever had! Seriously, the corn meal was so good. They were fried perfectly and very hot. Delicious! I'll be back to try the fried fish too.

I found a bandage in my clam chowder!!!! and I'm really grossed out. The customer service is nice but I'm never going back

Fish chips sounded so good and decided to try it out. Service was quick. The fish and chips were a good snack and I'll try again.

Chicken basil sandwhich with no tomatoes

In the packing house upstairs towards the middle, we tried this place to celebrate my wife's bday. I got a chicken and basil sandwhich with no tomatoes. The lady was very nice and took my order right away. There weren't a lot of people in line at this place. I asked her what was on the sandwich, and she told me chicken, basil, mayo, tomatoes, and lettuce. I told her no tomatoes and she completed my order. It came out to about $12, and they didn't even ask for tips, which was nice. When I got the chicken sandwich, overall, it just looked okay. The chicken was a bit dry, and I could hardly taste any basil. What I did taste was the mayo. It seemed like they put two big spoonfuls in the sandwhich. It overpowered the sandwhich and almost made it unedible by the second half. Also, the sandwhich was falling apart.. I don't know if I would get that again. Their fish and chips looked bomb.. I think if they didn't put so much mayo, the sandwhich would have tasted a lot better.

Enjoying a little "fish picnic" from "The Chippy Fish & Grill" (take-out). Anaheim, CA.

I was longing for that beer battered cod many of us knew & loved from the old-school "H-Salt" of yesteryear. Hoping for a taste of nostalgia, I rushed over to try "The Chippy Fish & Grill" back in 2014 when they opened on the 2nd Floor of the Anaheim Packing House food hall. Although not exactly like H-Salt, the food was pretty good. Fast forward to 2023: I hadn't been to "The Chippy" in years, but decided to try it again recently. For some reason, their fish & service are now....different....but in a good way! Not sure what happened, but their fish pieces seem a bit larger in size, (not thick, but flat like a filet) & the service is friendlier, as well. Due to our high-risk status, we have been avoiding the crowded Anaheim Packing House for the last 3+ years, due to COVID-19. Instead, whenever the craving hits, we visit during off-peak times, order to-go, & enjoy a nice quiet outdoor "fish picnic" (away from the masses) with "The Chippy" as the star-of-the-show. Although the fries (aka "chips") could be a bit less soggy, the fish is still good. So far, we have found that the friendly owner serves hot, fresh, & delicious food, & it's an enjoyable occasional treat. Although "The Chippy" may not be comparable to the fish-&-chips served in the UK, it's one of the better fish-&-chips I have tasted here in the OC area locally. Craving beer-battered fish-&-chips? Check out "The Chippy Fish & Grill." *Tip* For the immunocompromised (or if you just prefer take-out): Let the staff know that you will not be dining onsite, & they will carefully pack your order in special brown bags with holes. This will help to ensure that your seafood does not get quite as soggy by the time you reach your destination.

We came here on a weekday after the lunch rush and was able to walk right up and place our order. The lady who was working there did not seem like she wanted to be there. Seems like her mind was somewhere else. She couldn't even remember what I ordered to drink. We really wanted to like this place because we were craving fish and chips. It had been a very long time since I've had good quality fried fish. Our fish and chips order came out really fast. The fish was hot, but the breading was very heavy and bland. Seemed like it needed seasonings. Unfortunately, the fries were super soggy, (which means the oils likely was not hot enough) and there was no crunch to them whatsoever. Also, we were not offered any condiments, and even missed out on lemons, which I saw in Yelp photos afterwards. The food came with ketchup and tartar sauce in small plastic containers. Even with the sauces, the food was still bland. We will continue to be on the quest for a good fish and chips place!

Many of their dishes include chips, which during my visit, resembled steak fries due to their thickness. You'll also see that curry is a signature dish in the menu, which reflects how Anglo-Indian cuisine has maintained popular influence in the United Kingdom. I ordered Cutty Sark's curry with chicken, rice, and chips at medium spice. The name is derived from a British merchant vessel that operated during the late 1800s. The curry had a mix of savory and sweet flavors, which reminded me of both Japanese and Indian cuisines at the same time. I couldn't say with certainty that the curry fit into just one cuisine. Packed with some heat and bold in spice, it's a delightful and large dish if you desire a lot of flavor. Where the curry went a little off course was the addition of celery. The petiole is strongly flavored and distracts from the curry in my perhaps controversial opinion. Curry seems to better mix with potatoes and carrots. I tried some of the bacon sarnie as well. The word "sarnie" is an affectionate diminutive for "sandwich." American bacon usually comes from pork belly, which provides a flavorful yet oily crispiness. However, the British variant usually comes from the loin, which is meatier and leaner. I thought of the bacon here as similar to a savory ham. The sarnie bread is fried in fat to emphasize buttery flavor. The restaurant, filled with English decorations, has the style of a cozy and dim pub. There's a good amount of small wooden booths with cracked leather seating. Our server was really nice and made sure we got everything we needed despite the busyness of the restaurant. For example, my curry came with a chutney, and I had asked for a lid to take it home. While I forgot to take the chutney home, she went outside as she noticed that we took the back exit to look at their double-decker bus. She even offered to take a picture of us. The service deserves a lot of kudos, and we were grateful for her consideration.

After burning a few calories, we were more than ready to put them all right back. Upon entering, we stood at the front for about a minute before being acknowledged and shown to a booth. Not exactly a dramatic wait, but just enough time for me to start wondering whether we'd accidentally wandered into a museum exhibit instead of a restaurant. And honestly, that wouldn't have been the worst thing. The décor here is fantastic. While waiting, I found myself admiring all the details and soaking in the atmosphere. It genuinely felt like we'd stepped into another country without the hassle of passports, customs, or a 10-hour flight. Having never been to a British pub before, I was excited to experience something different. We were seated in a cozy leather booth that looked straight out of a vintage European train car. "Cozy" is definitely the operative word here. If you're dining with someone, prepare for the possibility of an accidental knee-to-knee alliance. It wasn't an issue for us, but taller guests might find themselves wishing for just a few more inches of legroom. For our meals, I went with one of their signature dishes, the fish and chips, while my girlfriend ordered the seafood platter. Looking to start things off properly, we asked our server for an appetizer recommendation. He suggested the chips with curry sauce, which sounded great at the time. What we didn't realize was that our entrées were already arriving with enough fries to sustain a small village. When the food landed, we suddenly found ourselves in possession of what felt like the restaurant's entire potato inventory. The curry sauce itself was tasty, but in hindsight, something like the garlic mushrooms or vegetarian samosas might have given us a little more variety. I ordered the two-piece cod fish and chips, which came with a mountain of steak fries and a tiny scoop of coleslaw that looked like it had wandered onto the plate by mistake. The fish was good, but the portion was impressively hearty. I made it about halfway through before my body politely informed me that further eating would require a nap. The curry sauce was enjoyable, though not quite the life-changing experience I'd secretly hoped for. The real MVP was our server, who remained friendly and attentive throughout the meal despite looking like he was covering half the restaurant by himself. He checked in regularly and did a great job taking care of us. Overall, the atmosphere was the highlight of the visit. Between the immersive décor, cozy pub vibes, and generous portions, it was a fun and memorable experience. Just be warned: if you order fries as an appetizer, make sure you're prepared to commit to a serious relationship with potatoes.
