My husband and I had high hopes for this place because we've seen videos on social media about their food and it looked delicious. I guess I should have read the Yelp reviews first. My husband and I got the seafood combo which comes with two pieces of fish, one jumbo shrimp and fries. My husband was looking forward to the shrimp and has been craving fries. These were a big let down. The fries, you could tell were frozen and were soggy. Again the shrimp, you can tell was frozen. And then when fried, it became overcooked so it was tough and chewy to eat. We both enjoyed the fish. I saw them actually dip the fish in the batter then fry it. So at least we know it wasn't one of those frozen "fish stick" style stuff you get at the grocery stores and it was prepped to order. The fish was very flavorful. It had good seasoning and the batter had a great crunch to it. The batter wasn't too think. And the fish was a good portion size. Service was good. It took a while for the food to be made. Chill ambiance. It is inside of the Anaheim Packing House so it gets loud. We were able to find seats nearby here. But this place has a lot of seating, so you can take your food and sit downstairs if you'd like. I'd come back here, maybe just for the fish. read more

Hey so, remember that scene from Ratatouille when Remy tries to ignite a spark of inspiration to his brother Emile but ultimately fails? Well that's how I felt with this vendor. I am honestly conflicted which it angers me because of how I LOVE fish n chips but something of how I was served was just... plain! There was no flavor and even bits of the fried batter just falls off. The tartar sauce is really more of a lifeguard than a star, that it saves the fried fish of being just bad, it's not optional, IT'S REQUIRED. Now for the single jumbo shrimp... I saved it for last as the cherry on top, but even that fell short, the shrimp was too tough, as if overcooked, but I'll give benefit of the doubt as honestly frying shrimp while keeping the shrimp itself tender is a challenge on its own. The chips (french fries) are negligible, it's fried well... had to salt it but that is entirely up to the consumer preference (which cannot be the same for fried fish). Now in terms of pricing, it's fairly steep, but when you account for the fries and drink... or sorta evens out? They do give you above average sized fishes so you're not getting skimped out here. The person who took my order seemed very positive and really gave me the reassurance that the food is gonna be great! Which I give benefit of the doubt that maybe I just got the wrong batter. Their vendor is old school cabin looking, it's rather nice, I'm not a drinker but they seems to have a good variety of alcoholic beverages. Oh but speaking of beverages, they mention that their sodas are off brand, so the off taste is negligible for me. I ordered $39 worth of food - 3 pieces of fish and fries, calamari and hush puppies and got two small containers of ketchup, 1 container of malt vinegar and three tartar sauces. Asked for one more ketchup and the lady said it cost $1.00 extra. Ridiculous and won't be returning. We were at the Anaheim Packing District for a reservation at the Blind Rabbit and thought we would eat before at some of the various food places there. I had a rare itch for fish and chips so I chose the Chippy Fish & Grill for my food. They are located upstairs in the middle across from the main front entrance. They have a basic menu including items and combos with fish, shrimp, calamari, BBQ ribs, chicken strips, chips/fries (regular, garlic, or Cajun flavored), hush puppies, onion rings, and wings. They also have clam chowder and cole slaw. I ordered the two piece fish and one jumbo shrimp combo which also comes with fries. It only cost $3.25 extra to upgrade from one piece of fish to two and that seemed like a good deal. They give you a vibrating pager to let you know when to come back and pick up your order. Less than ten minutes later, the pager went off and I picked up my food which is served on a tray. The order pick area is about ten feet to the right of where you order. It came with cocktail sauce for the jumbo shrimp and two containers of tartar sauce for the fish. It does not come with malt vinegar be default, but they gave me two containers when I asked for it. There are a lot of places all over the packing district where you can sit and eat. The two pieces of fish and the jumbo shrimp were a generous size and battered just the right amount. Everything was fried well and cooked throughout. The fries were good although I usually like them a little more on the crispy side. They were fresh fried so I would ask for that next time. The food and sauces all tasted great. The two staff members I interacted with were friendly. read more

Delicious! Before I start taking about the food, a huge shout out to the staff that works here especially the gentleman who was so kind, friendly, and attentive. The food was also great! I ordered something outside my usual scope of orders-- baby back ribs and the meat was nicely cooked and it came off the bone easily. I enjoyed the coleslaw, it was not overly sweet, it just tasted like fresh cabbage and the fries were good as well. We also ordered a side of calamari rings and they were wonderful! Came by tonight since it's been awhile since I've come to the Packing house. I stopped in and decided The Chippy was the place I was gonna chomp on tonight. I got the 1 piece fish and shrimp combo and it did not disappoint. The fish was sooooo crispy. The batter was amazing and not all gross and oily. The fish was flaky and melted in my mouth. When I squeezed a little lemon on that bad boy man o man did it hit the spot!!!! The service was quick and to the point. I didn't have to wait too long even though it was a Saturday night which seemed to be busy. And what better way to eat some fish and chips but with some live entertainment! Stopped in for lunch last week with some work friends. Solid fish & chips. Not as good as in the UK even though they claim to be UK style, but that was already kind of assumed before I went. Hush puppies were great. Everything was served quickly and hot. Only issue was the one person working was just kind of going through the motions at the cash register, but not unfriendly. Good selection of beers. This is located inside a food hall (Anaheim Packing District) so the ambience isn't directly relevant to this restaurant. Very little seating upstairs, and only about 30 or so seats in the main area downstairs, and then a few seats here and there through the rest of the hall. Prepare to stand if you come on the weekends or night time, but for lunch there are plenty of options to sit. read more

In the packing house upstairs towards the middle, we tried this place to celebrate my wife's bday. I got a chicken and basil sandwhich with no tomatoes. The lady was very nice and took my order right away. There weren't a lot of people in line at this place. I asked her what was on the sandwich, and she told me chicken, basil, mayo, tomatoes, and lettuce. I told her no tomatoes and she completed my order. It came out to about $12, and they didn't even ask for tips, which was nice. When I got the chicken sandwich, overall, it just looked okay. The chicken was a bit dry, and I could hardly taste any basil. What I did taste was the mayo. It seemed like they put two big spoonfuls in the sandwhich. It overpowered the sandwhich and almost made it unedible by the second half. Also, the sandwhich was falling apart.. I don't know if I would get that again. Their fish and chips looked bomb.. I was longing for that beer battered cod many of us knew & loved from the old-school "H-Salt" of yesteryear. Hoping for a taste of nostalgia, I rushed over to try "The Chippy Fish & Grill" back in 2014 when they opened on the 2nd Floor of the Anaheim Packing House food hall. Although not exactly like H-Salt, the food was pretty good. Fast forward to 2023: I hadn't been to "The Chippy" in years, but decided to try it again recently. For some reason, their fish & service are now....different....but in a good way! Not sure what happened, but their fish pieces seem a bit larger in size, (not thick, but flat like a filet) & the service is friendlier, as well. Due to our high-risk status, we have been avoiding the crowded Anaheim Packing House for the last 3+ years, due to COVID-19. Instead, whenever the craving hits, we visit during off-peak times, order to-go, & enjoy a nice quiet outdoor "fish picnic" (away from the masses) with "The Chippy" as the star-of-the-show. Although the fries (aka "chips") could be a bit less soggy, the fish is still good. So far, we have found that the friendly owner serves hot, fresh, & delicious food, & it's an enjoyable occasional treat. They battered the fish for my order right in front of me and these portions were big and fresh, not frozen as I assumed that most places that sell fish and chips purchase them from similar distributors that pimp out flash frozen third world aquarium fish. Seems like her mind was somewhere else. She couldn't even remember what I ordered to drink. We really wanted to like this place because we were craving fish and chips. It had been a very long time since I've had good quality fried fish. Our fish and chips order came out really fast. The fish was hot, but the breading was very heavy and bland. Seemed like it needed seasonings. Unfortunately, the fries were super soggy, (which means the oils likely was not hot enough) and there was no crunch to them whatsoever. Also, we were not offered any condiments, and even missed out on lemons, which I saw in Yelp photos afterwards. The food came with ketchup and tartar sauce in small plastic containers. The other person there came up to fix the problem but instead of replacing the order he just put the order we had been served back in oil to crisp up. Needless to say the food wasn't that great. Comparing it to such high standards since The Chippy is from the UK and not an American born fish and chips restaurant. Eaten about 10 minutes from pickup. The fish appeared to be frozen chunks before deep frying, maybe that's why the fish texture was slightly chewy and not soft and fluffy like it should be. Batter was good and crispy, thin and not too oily. Size is about what you would find in the UK. Really wish the they used fresher fish, it would make a huge difference. Whatever happens to the chips in the UK that make them magical does not happen here. These are very good french fries but aren't as big as the ones in the UK and don't follow whatever process they use in the UK to get their chips crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a non-starchy potato taste. The staff here is amazing, super sweet lady when we were there and they hustled with the orders they were getting that evening. My go to place while visiting the Anaheim Packing House is Chippy's Fish & Grill. I'm greeted quickly with a smile and my order of either 1 or 2 pieces of fish and chips or just maybe I toss it up for fish and shrimp is fresh and quickly served. Never had anything grilled. My food is most ofter prepared to my satisfaction way before family and/or friends get their meal from other locations. I love walking through the Anaheim Packing House with memories of driving up out front with my parents to buy cases of Navel Oranges as a child to take as house gifts to relatives as we travelled. Me and a couple of my coworkers were craving fish and chips, so we ended up ordering lunch for a weekday afternoon pickup using the square site via their website. Three meals were ordered with a quoted pickup time 20 minutes later. When we arrived 25-30 minutes later (last minute work-related priorities), we were surprised to find that our meals were not only not ready--but had not yet been started. We sat and waited for our fish to be battered and thrown in the fryer for another 10 minutes. Truthfully, we weren't exceptionally bothered by the wait--but we were not prepared for what we were to experience next. As one employee began to bag our food, a plastic bag containing two of our three meals fell to the kitchen floor. Instead of immediately throwing the food away (and acknowledging the situation, as were all but 3 feet from the disaster, sitting on the other side of the bar), she picked up the bag, put it back on the counter, and mumbled something to her peer in Spanish. Then, the second employee proceeded to remove the paper-wrapped meals from the outer plastic bag, put each in a new paper bag, and placed them in a new plastic bag. My friend and I looked at each other, both confused but curious as to how far this would go (yikes!). We assumed there was no way this person would dare try to send us off with this contaminated food. And then it happened. The woman tried to hand me the bag of "dirty" food! Trying to give her an opportunity to self-recover, I asked, "did you want to re-prepare the food that fell to the floor?" Spoiler alert: her response was NOT "of course, I apologize for the oversight." Instead she responded with "well, the food items themselves didn't make contact with the floor, just the bag." I know what you're thinking--and no, you can't make this stuff up. When I repeated that I would like our food made again, she mumbled a couple more sentences in Spanish to her coworker, after throwing out all of our food (including the 3rd meal that never hit the floor) and then remade everything, which, sadly was not prepared well (soggy fish and fries--and the one order of "garlic fries" we received had about a teaspoon of garlic). I'd like to think the ladies preparing the food weren't retaliating against us but...well...we can't help but think otherwise. Not once was there an apology/acknowledgement for the delay--or their attempt to sell us contaminated food. Before coming here to share our experience, I gave the company's leadership an opportunity to discuss our shortcomings by submitting a message via their website (there, I received an automated notification that I could expect a response in 2 business days). Surprise--no one reached out to me in 2 business days, so here we are. You guys left me no choice. Not only will our entire team not be back, but I worry for the sustainability of a business that hires folks who lack common sense or basic customer service skills. Buy a meal here at your own risk. If they were this blatant with stuff we could see, what's happening in areas for which we don't have a visual? Do not go here. I repeat: do not go here. read more

In the mood for some fish n' chips? The Chippy Fish & Grill is the perfect place! This is my second visit back to The Chippy at the Packing House. It was easy to find and located next to The Kroft and by Mini Monster on the 2nd floor. The parking was the hard part when coming to the Packing House. There is valet, but I prefer to street park whenever possible. I perfect for either dine in or order to go. I recommend getting the 3 piece combo with fried fish, fries and a drink. The fish is fried to perfection and each bite is crispy and crunchy. If you get this to go, make sure to not wait too long. It's best eaten soon while it's still crispy. Also make sure to ask for some tartar sauce. It goes very well with the fried fish and the fries too! Despite the fish being fried it's still pretty moist inside and huge portions too. We had ordered a couple of sandwiches [grilled cheese] near by but we didn't care for one of them and my wife decided to get the fish and chips, crispy shrimp. I wasn't very hungry but I had to taste it and damn if I didn't eat most of the fish. It was huge chucks of clean white cod and was so good. I was super impressed that they would have malted vinegar in a place like this but they did. My wife ate some with tartar sauce but I swear I went from "no I don't want any" to eating most of the fish. I will definitely come back for the fish. Everything was delicious. We "upgraded" for the garlic chips and glad we did- garlicky goodness! I only remembered to take a picture of the ribs, and some of the other food only in the background- too busy eating. At first I thought the prices were a little high but the portion sizes are good and the food is fresh so it works.
