    Texas burrito
    Nikki N.

    I ordered the Texas burrito with asada and a hibiscus agua fresca. The burrito portion was generous, and I liked that it was served wet-- something I usually enjoy. The beef was tender with just the right seasoning, though overall the burrito was good rather than memorable. The chips were just okay, tasting a bit bland, and the agua fresca was far too sweet for my taste. Service, however, was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself felt clean and bright. Overall, a decent meal at a fair price. Not outstanding, but solid enough if you are in the area. I ordered the Texas burrito with asada and a hibiscus agua fresca. I walked (1.3mi) into this place after a recommendation from hotel staff. I HATE to give this place a low score because I believe it CAN be better! I ordered the Barbacoa, the portions were rather large (a little stingy with the tortillas though), but the meat (while tender and perfect texture) was very bland. I knew I was in trouble when I saw the bottles of Tapatio sauce on the tables. Like seriously? I'm not Mexican or nothing, but you are NOT invited to the Carne Asada!!! Get me some REAL (hot/flavorful) salsa! I read a review just before writing mine and am CONVINCED it should do better unlike other venues I've had the misfortune of visiting. I hope you improve!

    @alifeofeats - Steak Picado ($19.95 as of Jan 2025)

    Honestly, it was easy to understand the low ratings from afar before going here. Not much of a vibe or niche, with Tex-Mex-y fare that seems more of the standard grade Mexican offerings you'd find outside of California and a decor that feels a bit beige. However, having been invited to La Casa Garcia selected for an extended family catch-up, I was forced to walk in with an open mind. Would it be possible to escape with a decent order for the evening? Happy to report that my order of a steak picador ($19.95) definitely made for a salvaged meal. This entree comes with a salad, and a rather sizable one. The main dish itself was everything I hoped for, with beef that was not overcooked, decently portioned, and reasonably flavored thanks to the pool of sauce it swam in. Rice and beans (topped with some cheese) made for a nice round out. In brief, it seems possible to eat perfectly decently here, though I don't find myself rushing back on my own volition with the quality and quantity of Mexican options around north OC

    We've been here a few times with family and it never disappoints, service is great and plenty of seating for easily 20+ people parties. Now onto the food, we ordered a mix of American and Mexican food lol but wow was it good! Some of our family did the refillable Menudo and I'll be ordering that for sure next time. We love this place, bar area was big and I'm sure if you're craving something, they'll have it on the menu here for you!

    La Casa Garcia they treat you like family. Best menudo in town! We ordered Chilaquiles, Chorizo and eggs, pancakes, and of course the all you can eat Menudo, We were greeted by the Garcia Family welcome her wherever we are in town. The Barbacoa is also delicious.

    This was the closest to the Mexican food I'm used to eating back home. I'm from McAllen, Texas. The menudo and the chorizo and egg plate was made like the restaurants back in the valley. Thanks, I was in the mood for this type of breakfast and It was only a four minute walk from the Hyatt regency.

Upon parking and walking it, I couldn't believe how wide open and large it is. With seatings inside and outside, high ceiling and a bar in the middle of the restaurant, it's quite a modern decor restaurant. They have a HH from 2-5pm or so, we took advantage of it. We also ordered a few things from their regular menu as well. Service was great. Not a lot of ppl at the time we sat but I actually can see the restaurant and the staff's interaction. Very attentive and all the waiters seem to help other tables and not just their assigned tables, so we appreciate it when we didn't see our waitress. Lychee martinis, dangerously good. We had a few. All the food items are all fresh and tasted great. I actually enjoyed the truffles chicken salad a lot. The fries were amazing. Dim sum items were good too. Food prices are on a higher end but you babe to realized it's not a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant you're going to eat. It's a nice modern spot we enjoyed a good meal and nice conversation.

The best part of Strong Water is the immersive experience you feel sitting inside. We sat in the Captain's quarters which was an intimate spot for great conversation. Our waiter was very friendly and gave plenty of options. We opted for the Crispy Tuna Appetizer which unfortunately was not good at all. The tuna and toppings were okay but the crispy rice tasted like fried fair food almost with the texture of a rice cake. Hopefully, their other dishes are better. For drinks, the waiter helped select the Banana Batida for me which was very lovely! I love how customized the recommendations were. My partner ordered a rum drink which he enjoyed as well. We finished off with a brownie dessert. I really enjoyed the passion fruit puree and kiwi topping. The brownie tasted good but was very dense which isn't my preference. Overall, would recommend. Prioritize the drinks over the food in my opinion

I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. Thank you to Christina and Brandon for always having amazing pictures, decor, and fun events at 616 that help introduce new folks into this great spot. Time is short. Learn about Root Beer Whiskey.
