My fiance' and I were in the arts district, and I have not had a really poor experience in that area yet, so when we parked we just went for the closest thing possible. BAD choice. The corn was sitting in a pool of nasty hot water, seemed like it had been sitting in the back for a while. The slaw had no spice whatsoever. The sweet potato fries were chewy and seemed frozen and under cooked. The Bahn Mi had absolutely no flavor, the park was dry, and the bread was tough. My salmon was bone dry with no flavor on it whatsoever. It's honestly hard for me to write a review like this. I love food, and I love new experiences. The Brady District in Downtown Tulsa has become home to several excellent choices. I almost missed Caz's walking the district but, couldn't be happier that we found it. An excellent staff of Tattoo'ed Waitresses and Waiters who are attentive and knowledgeable regarding a menu of twisted cajun leaning comfort foods. When you walk into this renovated, I am guessing, machine shop or Garage, everything is perfect. They have spent time assuring the ambience is comfortable enough to give the impression they did not spend any time on it. Everything was perfect, the Spicy Slaw is excellent and, as advertised, perfectly spicy. I can suggest the Pot Roast, Catfish, Meatloaf, Gumbo or any Burger. Came here for dinner @5:30pm before the 100th First Friday event. The place was still pretty empty. I split the country fried steak with a friend, since I figured that's what was good at this place. No. The breading was thick and hard. There wasn't that much gravy. The green beans were reminiscent of the mushy canned beans from elementary school. They added seasoning to amp up the flavor...lemon? It was sour. I also got a side of mac and cheese. It was cold and bland. Only good thing was the mashed potatoes, but how hard is that to mess up!? Our waiter was okay. He was very passionate about the food there, which is good, but service was eh. He refilled everyone's water at the table TWICE and never refilled mine. Really? He did manage to get the (correct) food out to everyone in a timely matter, which I guess is what matters most. Wouldn't come back. No one out of our table of 12 raved about their food. We visited the Chowhouse with a group of nine!! The decor and quaint feeling of this establishment was so refreshing!! It was very clean! The chefs on this night outdid some of the best chefs I have had the pleasure to dine with! The food was exceptional! The PBT Sandwich was a flavourful explosion. So so good! Next to the Chef the next most important part is service.. Our sweet waitress had only been employed there for 3 days.. but she operated like a veteran waitress!! My go-to place to take out of town guests, especially if they aren't used to good Southern cooking! Caz's Chowhouse is not to be confused with the pub across the street, which is related but in a different building. The restaurant has a decent sized bar with TVs throughout as well as a good sized dining room. I've never had to wait, but when I'm bringing a group I also call ahead. Love their support of local breweries and all the different beer options in bottles and on draft! For apps, I definitely recommend making guests try the great balls of fire (Rocky Mountain oysters) and the fried pickles, which are crunchy and salty and delicious! For mains you can't go wrong with a chicken fried steak and veggies, the chicken and waffles, the chicken biscuit or the great cazbah grilled cheese. All super yummy and very filling. Haven't had a chance to try desserts yet, but hopefully one day soon I won't eat my body weight in delicious southern food and will have some room left over. read more

The gentleman at the front desk of our hotel (Residence Inn) recommended Caz's when we inquired about dinner spots. Great recommendation! My husband had the chicken fried steak, I enjoyed the chicken fried chicken. Both were accompanied by mashed red potatoes, gravy and green beans. I am *not* a fried food person, but this was excellent! Perfectly fried, not at all greasy, tasty gravy and green beans and some of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. Ample portion size, neither of us could finish despite our level of enjoyment. Ice water glasses were attentively kept full and we each had local beers. After watching Oscar-nominated Documentary Shorts at the Circle, we were hungry and wanted to go somewhere besides our usual places. Since we hadn't been to the Chowhouse since the remodel, we took a chance, lucked out and got a parking place right outside the front door. Greeted and seated by Beckem. Only two other tables occupied and one person at the bar. All staff were wearing masks. Sanitizer available. Place looked very clean and cared for. I wanted a local draft beer, but was advised that all the beer taps were "frozen" and foamy. That lost a star right off. We settled for iced tea and I was surprised that it tasted like sweet tea. My partner got the Bacon spinach Salad ($9.99) which she said was very good. I got the Santa Fe Salad ($9.99) which was also very good. No crackers, though I'd imagine we could have got some if we asked. Beckem was prompt with drink refills. I couldn't see that the menu had changed very much. I used to love the Pop's Pot Roast and it's still on the menu. There is a Happy Hour from 2 - 6pm with $3.50 Mules, $2 off wine glasses and $4 off wine bottles. We plan to return. read more

Wow! First, the menu is full of comfort food and the prices are extremely reasonable. The service fantastic. I ordered the unusual house salad, their recommended dressing was refreshing. Followed by the Potato soup the waitress recommended- served piping hot, just how I like, with grated cheese that melted nicely. Lots of flavor and not loaded with chunks of potatoes- kudos to the chef. I couldn't resist the slow cooked pot roast, mashed potatoes and carrots on the side. Lots of thick gravy. I've had this place on my radar for years. Why it took me so long to come here I'll never know. What I do know is that I will definitely be coming here more often. When I walked in I immediately loved it. The atmosphere and decor is very cool. I really like it a lot. They have a very high open ceiling and there is a 2nd story seating area. It's just cool. (Shout-out to Hayley, you were awesome!) It was lunch so I decided to order the Chicken Tenders off of the lunch menu. I got the mashed potatoes and gravy for my side and added a cup of Gumbo. The Gumbo came out first....so please don't mind me but I am VERY critical when it comes to Gumbo. My mother is from Southern Louisiana so to pass my Gumbo litmus test your Gumbo has to basically taste like God made it. Well the Gumbo is certainly not authentic Gumbo by any stretch of the imagination. In fact its the most unusual version of Gumbo I have ever had in my life. That being said it was very tasty. Here is how I look at it....If I view it as Gumbo then it was a fail...but if I just view it as some soup then It was very tasty and I enjoyed it. They just need to call it something else haha. Next came my chicken tenders....I thought I ordered the lunch portion....their lunch portions are huge!!! I was very pleased, and very stuffed when I was done. The chicken tenders were awesome. They tasted great and they had just the right amount of breading. I can't stand getting chicken tenders that are all breading and no chicken. This was not the case. They were excellent! As far as the mashed potatoes well the one bite I had was great...I was just too full to finish them. I will definitely be back. Great atmosphere, service and food. Caz's Chowhouse was so good that I ate their twice during my two-week visit to Tulsa. You'll find Caz's in the Brady Arts district section of downtown Tulsa, on Brady Street near Boston Avenue. (That would be across the railroad tracks from the main downtown area). Caz's is a very casual, comfort food-type of place, with a nice variety of soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and entrées to fit all budgets and taste buds. My first night there I ordered a cup of their chicken and sausage gumbo, served over rice, and kicked up with a dash of hot sauce. YUM! For my entrée I had the Chicken-fried chicken breast with mashed potatoes & skillet gravy, and a side of green beans. That was also excellent. When I went back later in the week I had their Chicken & Biscuit for lunch. They called this a chicken biscuit, but it's really more like a chicken pot pie sitting atop a fluffy Southern-style biscuit. It was marinated grilled chicken breast served over mashed red potatoes, and covered with skillet gravy, carrots, mushrooms, and peas -- and the whole thing served atop a buttermilk biscuit. Double Yum! If you prefer, they serve meatloaf, Southern fried catfish, grilled salmon, pot roast, chicken & waffles, and a rib eye steak. The sandwich menu offers several burgers, a Cuban sandwich, pulled pork Banh Mi, pulled pork sliders, grilled cheese with bacon & tomato, and a variety of chicken sandwiches. The sides are Black eyed peas; spicy Cole slaw; corn, bean, and cucumber salad; roasted corn and peppers; fried okra; glazed carrots; Mac 'n Cheese, and more. This place has a great vibe. I used to be forced to eat here three or four times a month by a boss that LOVED the place. Hah Caz's is a great place to enjoy a meal and/or a drink. The employees are usually pretty nice. Some may be eccentric, but give them a chance. Only issue I have ever had was a TERRIBLE service day. And at the end of it all my lunch was like 10.30. The waitress asked if I needed the change from the $20 I left. Me being so out of my mind with frustration said not to worry about the change. I didn't realize she meant the bills too! Hah so I gave one of my better tips to one of the worst waitresses I've ever encountered. Sad day. 2nd visit - first review. Our first trip here wasn't that great. I've heard good things about the place so we always agreed we'd give it another chance. I don't remember what we got the first time but we remembered it wasn't that flavorful nor was it that memorable but the prices are reasonable. This time I got the chicken sandwich. It was actually really good, it's unique because they put cream cheese on it. We had a group of 7, they added the gratuity to the check. Service was good. They have some decent drink options but not a good craft beer list. The rest of the menu seemed pretty predictable. We won't chose to go back on our own but if someone invites us we won't object. Came here with friends before a concert and we were not disappointed! Appetizers were so big we would've been plenty satisfied to just have those! We ordered the fried pickles and our friends ordered the cheese fries and we shared. The pickles had a little bit of a kick to them but it wasn't too much, just enough and they were delicious! The cheese fries were good as well and weren't too greasy as some can be. Some of us had burgers, one had chicken, and another had a sandwich. Caz's is WONDERFUL! Had my daughters 16th birthday party there. Decided to do a Sunday brunch and it was a great decision. We had a little bit of everything on the table and it all looked amazing.
