We were really impressed with the whole experience at The Cider Mill. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time, and so glad we went! Loved the soft lit ambiance and fun music- the atmosphere was very romantic. For drinks, I started with the Cider Mill Manhattan and I also had a Paloma. Both drinks were really well made and tasted delicious. For food, he started with a house salad that he said was good. They gave us some bread and oil with herbs that was super flavorful, but a bit salty for me. I ordered the chicken thighs that were made with molasses and cinnamon and served with mac and cheese and veggies. I thought it was delicious- very flavorful and the Mac and cheese was creamy and fabulous. My boyfriend got the swordfish special and he loved it. I snagged a taste and the fish was perfectly cooked and nice and fresh. The server was fabulous and never missed a beat, and she even offered to snap some pics for us. This was one of the best dinners I had in Syracuse! It's an unassuming location on the outside, but when you enter, you're greeted with gorgeous new American decor, all candlelit tables and incandescent bulbs, and a wide open seating area. They are offering dine-in seating during this time with all tables spaced far apart, and we felt perfectly safe during dinner. We were served by Ashley who was super warm and quick. We ordered the Heavenly Thighs and the Cider Pork Chops. My friend was wayyy too hungry and tempted by the chicken thighs to take a good picture and dove in haha. The chicken thighs hit all the right savory herb notes, and the pork chops were the exact combination of slightly sweet and meaty. The sides for the dishes were also amazing. I loved the mashed potatoes, and normally I'm not a fan of cabbage or mac and cheese, but I loved both. I kept stealing bites of my friend's mac and cheese! The portions are huge too. Best pork tenderloin I've ever had. I wish I could make a thick cut like that at home. Apple glazed flavor was awesome. All four of us enjoyed our meals. New York strip, another pork tenderloin and salmon. A bit more expensive than any type of chain restaurant but it was worth the little extra. This has been on my radar for some time. We went on grad weekend, so they had a fixed, Limited menu. My husband ordered the scallops. The table next to us also got them and my husband got about 1/2 the weight in scallops as the other person, so he wasn't happy about that. They both had 3 scallops but a big size difference. One would think that they would go by weight vs placing just 3 on the plate. I had the lamb chops. They were good but fatty. We started with the tuna tartare and the tuna was phenomenal. The sushi rice tots were a little too crispy without a sauce for me. This was a yummy meal which had some parts it lacked a little in, like the polenta could have been more flavorful, the pork could have been a bit more tender. The outside looks like a barn but the inside is very warm, inviting, and cozy. There are two rooms- one larger dining room and one with the bar. There was plenty of room between the tables and candles at each one. I started with the blackberry cider. It was so delicious! Very sweet! Our waitress brought us focaccia bread with oil. The portions were large and well presented. I felt that each dish was unique. The strip steak was very large and cooked well. The mashed potatoes were also really delicious. Our waitress was very nice and took the time to split the check amongst us. There were a lot of delicious dessert options such as creme brûlée and donut a la mode. However, we were stuffed. I've been here twice and both times the food and service has been fantastic. A little pricier than a chain restaurant but not overly expensive by any means, and you get large portions. Inside is cute and quiet with plenty of seating. They also have a nice outdoor patio area if the weather is cooperating. I've sat in both spaces and they are both equally nice. You have to try their appetizer Sammy's Sprouts, which is their take on Brussel Sprouts as Buffalo wings. Have had that both times and it's amazing! We made reservations arrived a few minutes early and our table was ready for us. We were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere with a Christmas tree in the middle of the dining area and tasteful decorations around. Family and friends holiday dinner together was relaxing and enjoyable. Two of us had the paella and loved every bit of it from the mussels to the artichoke, calamari, shrimp, scallops,and rice ( we both took some home), one had the lamb chops very much enjoyed and take home too, one had the prime rib which was running out by 6:30 due to popularity according to our waitress, and was very pleased with the temperature and size. 5 stars to this sweet joint! A great little spot for an elevated dinner if you want to get away from main Syracuse downtown/Westcott area. My aunt, her bf and I all went to a nice Saturday evening dinner @ this lovely joint. Reservations were easy to make- just follow their website! COVID precautions: outdoor seating available, servers all wearing masks, indoor seating was definitely distanced well from other tables. Parking: plenty of parking available. Got pretty busy Saturday evening and many spots were taken up. Ambience: I'd call it "cozy romantic" in a lodgey type space. The outdoor space has sweet lights placed up and outdoor heaters for chillier nights. For attire, seems like you can dress up or down. I'd recommend dressy casual. Menu: apps range from $7-$13, main plates from $15-$30. The menu had a few plates but seemed to have something that would fulfill anyone's tastes including chicken, beef, steak, salmon, pasta, burger, and a vegan option. We ordered the hummus of the day (beetroot), brussel sprouts, heavenly chicken thighs, chicken riggies, and creme brûlée and those famous apple cider donuts for dessert! I personally was a bigger fan of the deserts and apps than the main entrees but then again, I'm an apps and desserts kinda gal. Here's a breakdown for what we ordered: Apps: The beetroot hummus ($7): fresh and well seasoned, good texture, and the tastiest fried pita bread to pair with it. Brussel sprouts: in a sweet/spicy chipotle sauce, deep fried, and paired with blue cheese. Delicious! Entrees: chicken riggies with roasted chicken ($16): tasty pasta in a cream tomato sauce but nothing specifically to write home about. Heavenly chicken thighs ($19): came with gouda mac and cheese and tomato stewed greens. Personally, chicken thighs are a bit too soft for me so I wasn't blown away but the flavor profile was incredible! Beef brisket: came with a side of veggies and Mac n cheese. Aunt said it was incredible! Desserts: all I can say is *chefs kiss* creme brûlée: perfectly done, not too sweet with the perfect burnt sugar top. Apple cider donuts: GET THESE! I'm not a huge cider donuts person but they come out warm and toasty. Cocktails: can't remember the name of the first two but they were average. The pomegranate mule, however! It was refreshing and a lovely start to our palates. The total bill for 3 drinks, 2 apps, 3 plates, and 2 desserts came to just over $150 with tip. I was very impressed right from the start. We entered with a friendly welcome and my table of 12 were seated right away. Atmosphere is very cool. Everyone there were enjoying themselves. We started with a couple bottles of wine and some really nice cocktails. We then ordered some outstanding appetizers. Fresh garlic breads and oil for dipping arrived as well. We ordered some Arancini balls with pesto sauce and some of their famous Brussel sprouts. So tasty!! For dinner a bunch of us ordered their famous cheeseburgers. All were impressed. This is a hidden gem right outside the city of Syracuse! It is set back on backroads where you can take in the beautiful greenery of upstate NY. Inside it is very cozy and comforting. Our waitress was slow with the water, but made up for it with her fabulous, friendly service! The homemade bread served with olive oil is to die for, sad you get charged if you order more, but I understand. We ordered the hummus and Brussel sprouts for apps. the pita was perfectly warm with a nice grill on the outside and soft on the inside, best pita ever! The Brussel sprouts had me asking the waiter for the recipe they were so good! My mom and I ordered the scallops with crab and lobster risotto special, which was perfectly cooked all around which is hard to do with scallops and risotto. They were generous with the portion and the amount of crab and lobster chunks in the risotto. My dad got the chicken which he really liked too. We ended it with dessert of course: apple donut and flourless chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was alright, the raspberry sorbet on too saved it because it was kind of too chocolatey and a little dry. This was a great find on a Friday night. We had the deviled eggs to start which were amazing. My husband had the smokehouse sandwich which he loved and I had lobster mac and cheese. We finished with the donuts which were delicious. My only problem with my dinner was the pasta was good but way too many bread crumbs. Other than that everything was great and our waiter mike was amazing. Def give this place a try. Update: went again for our anniversary last night and it was amazing as always. Ask if some of the non-gf plates can be made gf (some of the plates are only non-gf due to a sauce or topping). We got 2 cocktails (Blackberry Marg and Purple Drink). With 3 tables open in the main dining area, our hostess decided to seat us in the back room with a large party of 20 people in what looked like a private dining room. Not sure what the thought process was, but after asking to be reseated in the main dining area; which btw still had the 3 tables unclaimed, our dining experience went from "we can deal with this" to "WTF just happened". 1. Wasn't given a cocktail menu 2. Waitress didn't ask if we wanted drinks 3. Our entrees didn't show up until 1hr after our order was taken! Food was delicious. Mismatched tables and plates, etc. They ran out of most of their specials of course I didn't know and they had to come back and let me know after I ordered. So then I had to pick something on the fly. Never a good start. I had a Milano Mule that was delicious and expertly crafted. I should have quit while I was ahead. We ordered the focaccia. It was fine. But it wasn't focaccia, it was cold pillowy bread. It tasted okay. I had the house salad that was jammed into a weird little bowl/dish. The balsamic vinaigrette was bland. I wound up ordering the cheeseburger since I wanted one of the specials and ordered the pasta special and was then told later it was sold out. So I had to pick something quickly. The burger was tasteless and I don't think French fries were made there. They tasted like frozen fries from home. My date had the strip steak. He said it was just okay. He did say that the baked potato was exceptional. We were in and out of there in like 40 minutes. For the money, it just didn't feel worth it. We wanted to like it. Maybe it was an off night? We have had very good meals here previously. My husband ordered the BBQ Platter - 1/4 chicken + 1/4 rack ribs, corn on the cob, salt potatoes. The picture on the website displays a very plump chicken portion, possibly a drumstick and thigh and 2 half ears of corn. The meal he was served was maybe 2-3 oz chicken meat at most - teeny drumstick and something attached - should have triggered someone to question even sending out such paltry poultry. There was one half ear corn. He said it tasted fine - but if this was a 'quarter' chicken, it was the runt of the litter for sure! Just incase anyone isn't sure, the Cider Mill HAS BEEN REOPENED. My wife and I went this weekend after finding out it was officially reopened. We wanted to make reservations, but they only take them for parties of 6 or more. It was a Saturday night, around 6 PM and the parking lot was completely full. Not one parking space available, so my wife and I basically made our own at the end of a row. We went in, and though the parking lot was full, our wait only lasted about 20 minutes. We looked at the menu before we sat, and there were a lot of tasty sounding options. Some are meals you would only see made at home, not really in a restaurant, so that was interesting. Everything is reasonably priced, affordable and nothing outrageous. The hostess was very nice, but the rest of the seating staff seemed a bit confused about where to go with customers - they've only been reopened for about two weeks, so we chalked it up to that. We were first sat at a high seated two person table, but then they switched us to a normal table, after the server suggested it'd be uncomfortable for us. The place is nicely decorated, but is basically a renovated house, so some tables are separated in different rooms and it makes the layout a bit odd and cramped for some of the tables. It's also EXTREMELY dim in the place. They keep the lights turned down VERY low, so it can be tough on the eyes. My wife and I both ordered bugers. She had a Carolina burger, topped with pulled pork, and I had a Hell Fire burger, with pickled peppers, spicy sauce, and fried banana peppers. They were both delicious and perfectly cooked. They came with fries, which were alright, nothing special. We also had their glazed apple tart for desert, which was tasty, but kinda lukewarm. Would've been better hot, but it was also HUGE. Plenty for two people to share and my wife and I couldn't even finish it. The service was good, our server apologized several times for the long wait, which wasn't long at all, by the way. Our food was on the table within maybe 15 minutes of ordering, so it was a completely acceptable amount of time to wait for a meal to be cooked. So everything's good for the reopened Cider Mill. Wish they'd turn the lights up, but that's just my preference. They definitely had a number of dishes that we want to try, so we'll be returning. read more

However, for some reason they have kinda annoying rap/techno/punk playing as atmosphere music. It makes for a disruptive talking environment. At one point it was loud enough to drown out our server. We went to the bar for a couple of drinks and the bartender recommended the right beer for me when I said I wanted something with a citrus tang! Wow. Where to start. I have now gone two times in one week because I liked it so much. First time my boyfriend made reservations and easy enough our table was ready no wait. Poached pear salad- fresh and delicious with hints of blue cheese and crunchy walnuts for added texture. Pork belly appetizer- wow. Sweet/salty with those pickled veggies and rice crisps. Just layers of flavors that are harmonious! Pork shank- delicious and fell off the bone. Presentation was amazing. The next time I went I got the soup and pork belly app again. This time I got the special which was a prime rib special. Best I've had in Syracuse by far. Wish it was on the regular menu. My sister got the pork chop. Service is attentive! First time I sat in the dining area and second time I sat near the bar. I thought the bar side was less hectic for whatever reason. Parking lot can get full at peak times.
