We went down when they first opened for the season. The clam plate the FF were soggy the clams were over cooked and small. The fish plate was not cooked and again the FF were soggy. Overall it was very very bland, seems odd to charge so much for some fried seafood that is not seasoned. Some favor would have definitely helped the taste and the fact that it was very greasy and almost frozen fishy taste to it. Friend ordered a fish sandwich with additional toppings that was never provided or included, sea food platter for $24 only having a limited amount of pieces maybe(15at most including small pieces of fish) and calm chowder was decent. The amount of so-so reviews for this place is making my question the credibility of New England Yelpers. As everyone knows, Miami Yelpers are on point. Anyways, are you people crazy! This place has the best fried clams in Mass. I feel like the people reviewing this place just don't like whole fried clams because these are the best and this place is famous. Yes they are fried and greasy. That's the point. They are gritty and the bellies are big and that's how they're supposed to be. As for the atmosphere, it couldn't get any better. There is a line out the door at 11am. I thought only my grandma was crazy enough to drag me down here before i'd even had my morning coffee but apparently there are lots of other crazy grandma's out there wanting their clams before lunch time. The inside of the place is small and it smells like the sea and I LOVE IT! Fishing nets are the only decor and there are picnic benches outside if you can't take the smell. If you aren't ready for the full bellied clam experience, get the strips (even though it seems wrong) or if you're really afraid of all of it. Get the lobster roll, it's the best I've had and there is just nothing like it down here in Florida. Not even a close second. Also, the CLAM CHOWDER! It's amazing. When at Wolly beach, do as most people from the Quink do. Indulge at The Clam Box and then some more... This place has been there forever and has held on to it's own, despite the competition around everywhere. Which is a win win actually for everyone. I am not a big one on fried anything really. But when I do crave some fried seafood, I do not even blink an eye and wonder where or who or when or why. It is The Clam Box. Period. They are good. Their food is unpretentious. The staff works hard for the money. And it is money so very well spent. Agreed the food goes straight to your waist line if you make this your bi weekly hangout. But given how long a summer we all get to enjoy (sorry, that was a bad joke - I admit!), this place is my once a month worthy go to spot to get myself whatever I fancy and enjoy it under the sun at Wolly beach, bang on the boardwalk watching the sun set or sometimes in the privacy of my own beach - at home. It all depends on time and mood really. Here are my favorite things to get that I have enjoyed over the years and keep getting them over and over again: Fried food boxes: Clams (both whole and strips), Calamari, Oysters, Clam cakes, pop corn shrimp. The Seafood platter is out of this world and worth every single bite of the yummy goodness. Dinner plates: Steak tips (My Favorite!), Wing Dings, Buffalo wings App sides: Onion rings, Buffalo wings & wing dings, Clam chowder, shrimp chowder Rolls: I can go for any of their seafood rolls and really don't have a favorite. If I have to pick only one - it would be the Whole Clams roll. And if I have to drop one, it would be the Tuna salad roll. I have no idea about any other of the items listed on their very huge menu (like sandwiches, soups, etc..). I primarily go here for the fried seafood and the rolls and whenever in the mood for something not fishy, I go for the steak tips or the wing dings. Disclaimer: Weekends in season are crazy busy. Getting a parking spot on the beach or anywhere near the clam box is mind boggling. So good luck on that and really, have no advice on what would be a better option than just park wherever you can get lucky! So going there on a totally off time is recommended (like most locals try to do). Enjoy! read more

Never had a bad meal that I can recall. (I love big bellies, so I always call ahead and get a scouting report.so I'm not disappointed.) I have a healthy, but not extreme, appetite. (6'4", 275 lbs., and I must have gotten there somehow). I find that I can split a two-way meal (clams and scallops, fries plus rings instead of cole slaw - yup, you can do that!). That comes to little over $12 apiece and we may even have a ring left over. Occasional overeating has its pleasurable aspect, so if have the gelt and YOUR big belly will take it, go for it. by yourself. I've done it and. Way too greasy! It was an OK place to go after frolicking on the beach for a few hours, especially since the view is pretty, but the food is not great. I shared some fried shrimp and scallops with a friend and the scallops were actually really tasty- just too much grease. The fries are so so. This place serves fried batter better than any other place I've been. In which I mean, I am surprised by how much they sell of it. The fried clam strips platter i shared was 1/3 clam strips, 1/3 fries and 1/3 coleslaw. Way too few clam strips and Way too much cole slaw. The best way to describe it was eating batter that had been gently rubbed against a clam. The clam cakes were rock solid. I cracked two of them together, and found that inside was just breading. Their wing-dings: Omg it was pretty much chicken wing violation. I have no idea how they managed to turn a tiny chicken wing, into tiny chicken jerky. Absolutely DISGUSTING!! Went there on Mother's Day. It was a beautful day thought it would be a good idea. NO! Ordered a seafood platter. The batter was absolutely gross, bland NO flavor. I dont eat certain things so I asked for an additional piece of fish. When I got the additional piece of fish it was not fully cooked. I brough it back up to the counter saying I could not eat undercooked fish. The staff seemend very annoyed slamming his hands on the counter like an animal. Oh, The Clam Box. I came here with a small group of people so we could get an authentic taste of New England and we were not disappointed. The bellies of our clams were a bit on the small size. Not sure if it was because of the season or because we took a long time deciding what to order and ended up looking like tourists. Still, they were mild and tender, nothing like rubber bands. But the scallops were great, very fresh and juicy. The onion rings were good, too, but I thought the slaw was forgettable. The portions are generous, we had enough leftover to make an entire platter for the one member of our party who could not pay a visit with us. They carry the usual beer and a small wine selection. I'm a lemonade girl at clam shacks, so booze isn't important to me. The service was friendly, our cashier was a total sweetheart. This place is obviously run by a family, I love that vibe. Sorry, but I don't get it. I got the sampler to try a bit of everything (everything fried anyway) and basically nothing was very good. Too greasy overall, but that can be forgiven if the flavor was there. But everything was underseasoned, there were bones (tons) in the fish, virtually no clams to be found and those that were were overcooked, the calamari and scallops were edible but nothing to write home about. Ok if you want limp, greasy fries (which, I'll be honest, sometimes I do) roll up here. I don't eat seafood much, so my opinion of this place is probably somewhat less valid than others since I'm not part of their target audience. Hot dogs served on finger-wetting buttered buns, mediocre cheeseburgers and occasionally appropriate-for-my-food-mood limp, potatoey, grease fries. All for the low, low price of actually pretty expensive. Burger and fries and a drink will easily put you up in the $15 range, but it's the clams and lobster rolls people come here for. One thing I do like is that they have buzzers to tell you when your food is up, so if you want to stroll the beach a bit while you wait, it's convenient. Great location right across the beach. Good spot to grab lunch or dinner in the spring and summer. The food is just ok, nothing special. Definitely more pricey than what it is worth. The fries were very disappointing and soggy. The fish was not great, I've definitely had better. It didn't come with any lemon, and when I went back in to ask for some the owner seemed annoyed that I even asked and only gave me one lemon slice. There were 2 of us and we both got fish, but because of the way I was treated I did not ask for any more lemon. The Greek salad was good, although all the ingredients are piled on top of the salad which makes it a little difficult to dress the salad. If you plan to eat out on the patio, make sure to have something heavy to weigh your plate down because they give you really cheap paper plates and they will fly away if it's the least bit windy. Not only that, but the greasy fries, fish, soak right through the plate. They do have more heavy duty plates but apparently you have to ask for those, and when I did, once again I was met with rudeness. read more

All All the food was incredibly cold, the breading was low quality AND dripping in grease (seriously, my oysters were sitting in a puddle, it was nauseating). Even the fries were soggy. Honestly, when the best thing we ordered were the kid's meal chicken fingers, you know shit's gotten real. I've been here before without issue.
