Started going to Tony's more money but a better experience plus I can get a tuna club. To bad I have been going to this place for years through 2 prayer owners. Great local spot since the 60s , authentic seafood you would expect, Quincy is very lucky to have a spot that doesn't take short cuts . You walk in past the patio area across from the bay with a great view. Menu is simple and easy to get through , order then pay and wait for your number to be called. Pick up your delicious food and have a seat. I had the fried fish sandwich platter . Batter was crispy thin and not over or under done . White fish inside was plentiful (cod) it came with generous portions of slaw and thick fries. My son Justin had the steak and cheese hoagie. Was a nice day to get some seafood by the beach. I ordered a two way with whole bellys and scallops and also chicken fingers for the kids, My fiancé also ordered a two way but clam strips and scallops. I seen this place on phantom gourmet years ago and always wanted to try their whole belly's, and guess what? highly disappointed, weren't big at all, which sucked. The scallops were so good and tender. The chicken fingers were interesting, not ordinary ones, the batter was hard and not all that. My fiancé's strips were good, average, and the fries were good, fresh cut, overall it was a nice experience, I would definitely go again, i love the view and the fact there is ice cream next door and also a playground for the kids. First time at the Quincy clam box. I had the lobster salad sandwich and clam chowder. Great portion of lobster and celery and Mayo. I could take or leave the fries. They were to soggy. If yiu do a fresh fry you have to blanch first then freeze then cook to order at 375 degree oil The moisture is still in the fry when you do it only once from a fresh potato The chowder was excellent. Literally the largest whole belly fried clams I may have ever seen- these babies are huuuuuge, fresh, devoid of grit, and fried well. They were missing salt though- they would have been a 4 star dish with just a bit of seasoning. And I thought it was weird that the clam roll one of us got had more clams than the clam dinner plate I got, so portions are kind of off. They have a decent pandemic set-up, only a few people allowed inside at a time and they call your number for pickup over the loudspeaker so you don't have to wait inside either. read more

The service here was excellent and they are taking covid protocols well. They have limited seating and you can wait outside or stand on a yellow x while waiting for your order. I ordered a steak bomb and whole belly clams the clams were awesome but the steak bomb sub was not that great. It was very dry and the sub was very thin. I have actually never seen a sub that thin before. I'm giving this review a four star because the cashier was very nice and I recommend getting seafood here and not the subs. read more

The Most DISRESPECTFUL take out I've ever received. Today is Good Friday, which is most popular for seafood. I bring my family there spend close to $80 and receive this in return. I'm so PISSED off that I didn't check my take out upon leaving this establishment because I would have asked for my money back IMMEDIATELY. I honestly really liked this place. They are super reasonable prices which is very refreshing and it was the first time I'd tried a lot of the seafood I got. I got the seafood platter which was awesome. It's 25$ of a bunch of different seafoods and comes with cole slaw and fries. I've been going here for almost 20 years. I'm from Plymouth so I've always found them over priced but this past two seasons are insane. Tonight was the opening night and we went because it's a family tradition. We laughed at how much we paid for such a small amount of food and it was all over cooked. Please compare the menus between here and the Lobster Hut in Plymouth. It's insanity. When you eat outside here, you're in the middle of traffic. At least in Plymouth there's places to walk to for dessert and drinks and it's beautiful down there. Take the drive and get some great quality food for great prices. read more

I go to the clam box often in the summer. Their seafood is good but the quantity of food varies every time you go there. The last visit I ordered a 3 way with scallops, whole belly clams, and crab cakes ( but got a call back saying they were out of crab cakes so replaced with shrimp). Only a couple big whole bellies rest were small. Scallops were thick and juicy and shrimp was good. I will return just wish I could expect the same thing every time. read more

The whole belly clams here are outstanding, taste great and come in good sized portions at the reasonable price. I also often get the "Piece of Fish", which is just the fried haddock of their "Fish & Chips" minus the "Chips", it's an good sized piece of haddock. The Crap Cakes are delish as well. The food is good but Very disappointed with the small portions on the seafood platter for $32.00. One small piece of fish, 4 clams w belly's, 5 small scallops and 6 shrimps. Well, I stuck to my word and went when it was a little bit more in season. Split the 2 way seafood platter this time with 1 other person, which is any 2 seafood items of your choice with a side of french fries and cole slaw for $19.95. It was a pretty hefty plate so I think the price was reasonable for what we got. We got fried sea scallops and fried whole belly clams. Seasoning is definitely still lacking overall in my opinion. However, this time the fried goods were not an oily mess. Maybe the difference here is that we asked for it to dine-in and last time we asked for it to go (even though we ate it right outside)? Not too sure. Also, I generally prefer clam strips over whole belly clams (yes, I know) but I don't think they were that great this time. I don't order it enough to know what's a good fried whole belly clam but it was really mushy and had a strong ocean flavor. There's 2 clam shacks at Wolly beach. I do visit both; but more often I do come here instead because of the bottomless soda. I'm a very thirsty person, at least one to refills! Their fried food is not that greasy and lightly battered. The fried clams were ginormous yesterday! My main staple is the fried clams. They were scrumptious! Their coleslaw is on the mild side, not a huge punch. People do rave about the lobstah rolls at the beach but that's not where I would go for them. Sitting at the patio can be sandy if the wind picks up since it is literally across the street from the beach and/or the guy just can't keep up on sweeping the floor and cleaning the tables. read more

I love New England seafood! I was born and raised in Boston, so I know a thing or two about whole bellied clams, haddock, lobster, etc. I typically go to Clam Box once a year whenever I'm in town. Recently, I bought a fried seafood plate. It was not crispy, there were five clams, a small piece of fish, and a few shrimp and scallops. All for $28!!! The Clambox is your typical New England beachside greasy spoon restaurant. We are not MA natives (though we are coming onto our first decade here!) and have only lived in Quincy for 4 of those years. You really get the sense of a long running (49 years!) family business. I can see why it's in business too. Great people, perfect location, and as for the food, there's something for everyone. There are also 15 ceiling fans here. This is necessary info if you have a young child who is obsessed with ceiling fans. 8 in the dining area, 5 along the food counter in the kitchen and one in a nook off to the side of the dining room. There may be more in the kitchen but I'm usually chasing the kid around as he counts them. Anyway. The steak tip sandwich is my favorite. I was surprised by how flavorful it was. I am only able to eat half at a time. The flavor is still good warmed Up. I don't care for the fries (I'm incredibly picky...not meant to be a slight). I've also had their steak bomb which also reheats well. But not as flavorful. My husband doesn't yet have a favorite but he always tries something different. He most recently had the fried scallops. He wishes the batter had more seasoning. But he ate every bite! He appreciates they can sub a corn on the cob instead of coleslaw. He thinks coleslaw is evil. I, , on the other hand, love coleslaw. I hate seafood though so he can get his fix here. :) They are also a coke place. Big plus ! :-P While it's cool inside the restaurant, depending on where you sit, the sun coming from the windows near the ceiling cause a greenhouse effect , so I'd actually watch out for that in case you need to wear sunscreen. Especially if you have a window seat. Wolly beach has a wonderful breeze though so the outdoor seating (with umbrellas!) may be a better bet. We love coming here and will be back even when we move to Brookline this summer! read more

My parents absolutely adore this place. We have a local seafood restaurant in town which is overpriced and does not provide nearly as much delicious food as the Clam Box. When family comes to visit from other areas of the U.S. or different countries, they bring them here. It's worth the 40 min drive compared to the 10 min it would take to get to the local restaurant with subpar food, small portions with a fat price and squished seating. Here, you get the airy outdoors on a beautiful day with the gorgeous view of Boston and the beach just a few steps away. You get a mountain of GOOD food for an extremely reasonable price. If the days aren't so nice, you have the option of indoor seating which is spacious and still gives you a view of the ocean and Boston thanks to the dome-like windows all along the shop. Highly recommend: clam chowder, fisherman's platter (great value!) Bonuses on top of bonuses: free ice water (and not in some dinky Dixie cup!), beautiful view, easily accessible (parking, walking, running), great food for an awesome value, outdoor seating allows for your furry friends to tag along This place is no joke, I personally love coleslaw and French fries and usually at a speciality restaurant their attention is directed towards the main dish. But here I've had some of the best fries and coleslaw. You get a lot with the seafood plates but the ratio of seafood to sides is perfect (& and oh so delicious). And if you feel like you indulged too much, you have a convenient sidewalk area to work off some of the (well worth it) guilt. All around a great taste of New England! read more

I used to live right down the street and have been getting lobster rolls here for 11 years. They have always been my favorite. I even have a lobster roll rating page on Instagram, that's how much I love them. I went last night and whoa- I couldn't even choke down the lobster roll. It used to be big chunks of lobster and now, for some reason, it's SHREDDED and flooded with Mayo. Ewww. I've had too many to count and this is the worst I've ever had. I spent way too much money on an inedible lobster roll. I'm so sad. I tried reaching out to them on Facebook to see why they changed it. It's a shame. My first visit of the season. The new owners promised to keep the same menu, but they haven't. The small fish & chips had the 3 pieces as they always have and the fish was OK. The french fries? Horrible. Bland, tasteless, and under cooked. The fries here have always been a great signature dish, loved as much as the seafood. A medium order of onion rings was good, but the portion was puny, the container was barely half full. A cheese burger was beyond overcooked. This is no longer the "Original" Clam Box. It's sad.
