The cleat was fine, I definitley miss it being JJs. Decor was really cute especially being at the marina. Staff was very friendly. Menu was a little limited on the American part of the cuisine, I'd say it's mainly Mexican. Everything we did have though was delicious! read more

Attractive decor and ambiance with a courteous and attentive staff, too bad the food and drinks don't live up to them. Drinks were lacking...alcohol. Okay, shaving those margins. I get it. But the food, the food was just plain bad. I had fish chowder and my husband had chili. The chowder was off in color and tasted sour, with mushy fish (I suspect they are using uneaten Friday fish fry in the soup) and uncooked potatoes that were definitely frozen hash brown cut potatoes thrown in at the last minute. The chili was weirdly undercooked as well (beans were too firm and didn't cook with the tomato long enough to meld together) and no real flavor. The best thing on the plate were the prepackaged crackers. We didn't partake of the Mexican food, but judging by what I saw on other people's plates around us, it looked pretty much like white people taco night. read more

Horrid margaritas. Bland, mushy food. Small portions. Too loud. There really isn't much else to say, here. The Cleat needs to get its food quality sorted out, and modernize their recipes to actually have some flavor. Something tells me they copied JJ's recipes, which weren't good at the time...but the character of the place made up for it to some degree. The Cleat has no such character to it. It's a white paint taco stand. Management needs to realize they're competing on their food and cocktails, and doing a rather poor job of it. read more

I wanted to love Cleats so badly! We came on a busy Tuesday evening. I was a little confused by what their specialty is because it's a mixture of bar food and Mexican. Our server was sweet but the food and drinks were simply not good. We did enjoy the (purchased) chips and salsa but I had an italian beef special. I could only manage a few bites; the meat was dry and it was served with basically flavorless beef broth from the can. My husband had fish tacos that were just ok. The spicy margarita and spiked Door County lemonade with cherry tasted really watered down. It's a prime location, if they can perfect the food items or remove items that don't work- they'll be set! read more

We stopped at Cleats in Sister Bay during our girls weekend, and it was hands down one of our favorite spots! The drinks were amazing -- the Door County Cherry Mule with a splash of almond syrup was the perfect twist, and the spiked Door County lavender lemonade was so refreshing. The food was absolute perfection. The fish and chips (fresh haddock, lightly breaded) were some of the best we've had. The Buoy Bowl was packed with flavor -- definitely ask for the tomatillo salsa, it takes it to the next level. The fried fish tacos were another hit. Our server, Vicki, was wonderful! She was so kind and gave us honest recommendations that made the whole experience even better. And we cannot forget dessert... the bread pudding made from Grandma's recipe was out of this world -- the perfect sweet ending to an amazing meal. Just had my first meal at The Cleat, and I'm already looking forward to going back. I ordered the chicken noodle soup, and it was absolutely delicious -- rich, flavorful broth with tender chicken and perfectly cooked noodles. You can tell it's made from scratch. The beef sandwich was just as impressive: hearty, juicy, and packed with flavor, served on fresh bread that brought it all together. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff. Trying to be helpful here... Long time summer resident owner in Door County, have seen this building house a few restaurants over my 50 plus years, have entertained here, spent a few bucks. Sigh. The food is just so very marginal. Not a fortune but annoyingly and not anything that would ever, ever bring me or even my young grandchild back. The service was fine, the ambiance meh. What could you improve? Serve a decent basket of seasoned salsa and chips with a meal, pour wine beyond a sad thimble, season your food, use fresh ingredients, don't take your locals for granted. I'll give this place a year and look forward to the next owners...unless they start serving good food. read more

The nachos were great! The staff was extremely friendly, especially Mario. He was very patient and kind to our children. He was very attentive to us adults as well. My 9yo specifically asked me to tip him extra because he was very patient with him. Highly recommend and we will be back! read more

Had been to this location last year in Sister Bay, when was a Mexican restaurant. Worst Mexican food EVER had! Was bit hesitant to give it a second chance but did. Obviously Cleat has figured out how to serve Mexican food and also drinks. Owner Dave was bartender, couldn't have been nicer. Will be back. Wait staff attentive and nice. Go! read more

My wife and I went for dinner the other night and were very pleased. The restaurant has new owners and has done a stunning job remodeling the interior. It is bright and cheery and clean. Very welcoming atmosphere ! The service was friendly, efficient and very attentive . The star of the show was the food. My wife had the fish tacos and talked about them all night! I had the enchiladas and could not have been more pleased! Everything tasted great and the portions were generous! The prices were very reasonable ( except the ice tea which was $4.00). The Cleat. I can say I have eaten in the same spot for at least 30 years. So I can say today? LOVE IT! Mexican REAL salsa to start...I say it is the Mexican taste without the TOO much fat. We had a burrito with chips and salsa. THE Salsa is fresh. Chips were warm. Lunch on ONLY Fridays and Saturdays but we will return. CUTE update on an original DOOR County spot. read more

We loved everything. The basic margarita was perfect not too sweet. We had our two year old with us and the waitress was so nice to him. It was a family friendly environment. The food was great, we had the Mexican bowl and fish tacos. So excited for this place to be a part of sister bay. read more
