We have eaten here before and it was always a good casual restaurant with a great view. Last night was not the best. My husband ordered a beer. The waiter brought it and it wasn't the beer my husband ordered. When he called the waiter over to tell him, the waiter said it was the same brewery. No apology or offer to get another beer. Then our food came. My husband's pasta was warm. He asked the waiter to please bring it back hot. It came back warm again. My sandwich was on Squaw bread but it was a bit stale. If you haven't tried the cliff it's definitely worth the trip, it's located right above the beach overlooking Laguna beach. Truly all the beach vibes you need, plus it's surrounded by beautiful jewelry and boutique shops which make it a lot more fun if you want to shop. The service is always friendly and the food is wonderful. Parking can be a pain there is a valet spot right below the restaurant close to the Wayland gallery if that's full there are a few public parking lots nearby. So plan to walk a few minutes. But the street is lined with shops and other restaurants so it's a fun time. Definitely a wonderful time for friends, family or even a moment to yourself. It's an enjoyable restaurant. read more

The orange-fleshed protein arrives blanketed in a dreamy vinaigrette composed of pickled strawberries, accompanied by grilled spears of asparagus. I went for the Cowboy Burger, a half pound bad boy that plates thicker than my gorgeous wife's distinctly Michoacana physique, still stealing scenes and covetous gazes after 28yrs of dealing with Yours Truly. Great outdoors seating overlooking the beach and service was great; our waiter was really laid-back but professional. Before my party got seated, there were a bunch of shops in the little village that we checked out. Little to no wait time since we were there on a weekday before 5PM. Food was ok but a little bit overpriced (you also pay for the view). I was taken aback by the balsamic salmon - I questioned whether strawberries belonged on the dish or if I should even get it, but honestly it was pretty solid + photoworthy. The size of the salmon they give you varies by plate. Seafood carbonara was really creamy and rich. I'm usually not a fan of the sauce but this one was good. Wouldn't mind coming back again. I should note that the valet parking they have on site is now $6 but they take card. Still better than some other parking spots around Laguna Beach. read more

The first time we went here, we were meeting friends for dinner on a weekday and we loved it so much that a year later when my husband asked where I wanted to go for my birthday, it was the Cliff (which is a drive for us, coming from Escondido). Been coming here for a few decades and I've always loved their food and the scenery. I love that the give you the option to add a protein to your salad because I usually don't opt in for a protein! The pear salad is always amazing, soft butter lettuce with thinly slices pears. The Cliff Jumper drink is a favorite because my partner always let's me steal the crab claw, shrimp, and celery haha. It looks like they don't serve oysters anymore but they were great, when they had them. You can't go wrong with this spot. The ambiance is great and it has such a slow and lovely vibe. I'll continue making the long trip down so I can continue stopping by this spot for as long as I can. Three of us went to the restaurant on Thursday at about 1 PM. There were other people who came in and were seated after us that had their order taken before we did. The service was very slow and it took a while for them to deliver our Cobb Salads. We had looked at the menu on yelp prior to going to the restaurant. The menu was very different and the prices had increased dramatically. The waitress told us that they had changed the menu about six months ago because their rent had gone up and they had to increase prices. The website needs to be updated with correct information because instead of $22 for a salad, it was $28 and there was no protein on it and it was $10 to add protein. The food was OK, other than sitting next to the ocean I was not impressed. I don't think I would go back there again. read more

What a beautiful day to come to The Cliff Restaurant for early dinner. We go there around 4 pm, the wait is an hour long. For convenience sake we just valet park since it is so tough to find parking around there on the side street. And it is $6/hr for valet parking. There were live music in the courtyard while we wait, so it is not bad. There were 6 of us, the server was kind enough to set us at a table next to the ocean! It was beautiful. Even though it was warm, but they have giant umbrella covering the patio dining, it was perfect. The service was really good, but there's a time limit of 90 min for each table. Even though we want to stay longer, we couldn't due to the high demand for our table. The food was average. I ordered a Shrimp Ceviche. It was good portion! The half sandwich and soup or salad was a good deal. The Pear Gorgonzola Salad was good. What I really appreciate is that they are very dog friendly. They even have a good menu for dogs!!! The outdoor seating offers an excellent ocean view. They offer indoor seating but there is not a view of the ocean or the pelicans as they fly by. I was shocked at the pricing of the limited menue. As for the carbonara, definitely a creamy dish but has some nice things going on, especially with the smokiness of the bacon that was added to the party. But, can you ever go wrong when bacon is involved? Overall, you're really paying for ambiance, as with most places with a nice view, though the food is decent. Me and my 3 girlfriends came here all together, made an in person reservation for 7 pm for 4 people (everyone was standing right there) and when we came back to check in at 6:50, the girl said she thought it was for 7 people and that we had to wait another 30 minutes! Despite this being their mistake and them already having a table ready, they were trying to make us wait longer for THEIR mistake and miscommunication!!! Absolutely unacceptable. And instead of apologizing for her mistake, the young lady doubled down and didn't even say sorry, I understood 7pm as 7 people, she said "well this changes nothing". We pulled up a couple chairs, went to the bar and ordered a few drinks while we waited. Service was friendly. The atmosphere was casual but nice. Prices are what you would expect for Laguna with an ocean view. But the portions are plentiful. We started w the ahi poke w taro chips that we liked a lot. It was sweeter than most poke (do I taste hoisin?). For entrees we had the mahi mahi fish tacos and the fish & chips. The fish tacos were grilled and a bit dry. The fish & chips was a mixed bag.
