This place has a really cool history if you take the time to look at it. Not to mention, it has quite possibly the best tasting pizza I've ever had. The crust is crispy and not too thick or too thin.. The sauce/cheese ratio is perfect. By the time you sink your teeth into the cheesy goodness, you get a nice crunchy surprise. They also have this dill-ranch that is phenomenal. I'm kind of a self proclaimed "ranch whore", and I vote this amazing. The atmosphere is fun. They have pub-like popcorn given to you when you sit down. Also, they have different sporting events on on their various big screen TV's. Many beers are on tap, also I see a lot of people that drink wine and soda as well. There is a nice mix of people that show up there. I was introduced to The Leaf years ago... It quickly became my go to joint for Pizza. Sure, the wait may be longer than you would like but that's what beer and bowls of popcorn are for right? My favorite is the "Monster" and frankly I don't think I will ever order anything else when I go here. Moved to Virginia a couple years ago and my quest for a replacement has been met with nothing but disappointment. My company had a dinner-get-together-and-eat-pizza-and-drink-beer shindig not too long ago here and I thought it was pretty good. The pizza is different because its like a mix between crunchy thin crust and pan. At first I wasn't sure how I would like this combo but they seemed to make it work because the flavors were really good. People are huge fans of this place. They love it. They rave about it. They actually eat here. I have been three times and I am still not set. First time I had some beer, salad and pizza and it did not do too much for me...beyond mozzarella cheese on the salad. The next two times I came in I won a over two hundred dollars on pull tabs. The pizza is not bad, the beer is cold, but winning money. Well, that's money. I won't avoid this place, but I won't go out of my way to dine here. Ordered a veggie pizza; really disappointed. Pizza crust was stale, pizza was cold and very bland. In response to the cloverleaf owner - I do not accept the reflection of blame for putting a review on yelp and no phone call?! Really! And to be honest you and the staff should be checking that the pizza was not "up to standards" before it left the store. I love the Cloverleaf. I had a Groupon and my boyfriend and I went to check it out since he had never had it, and it had been years since I had been there. I did exactly what all you Yelpers suggested, and checked the menu online and phoned in my order before I left. Our pizza was ready when we got there, and most important it was delicious. My boyfriend ate all but 3 pieces of the large pizza and would have finished it if I hadn't said something. The drink prices are very reasonable, and the staff was friendly. We went on a weeknight and it wasn't too packed, and there is a seperate family friendly area for the kiddos or the bar to sit in. There is even a little patio to sit on. I went in for the Groupon, but it definately got moved to my list of regular places to go. Thanks Cloverleaf, your pride shows in everything you do. read more

Called to place an order and was told if using a card we would have to order online. No problem. Ordered online and received a confirmation that the order went through. We were told that our order would be an hour or so which is totally fine and what we expected. After an hour and a half we called to check on our order and we were told that our order had a technical issue and the order didn't go through. Our experience mirrored everyone else's (5-stars to my fellow yelpers for being right, as usual). We found ourselves in the "family section" -- not the quietest place, but not a pit either. As great as the pizza was and I will given credit for comping the meal, after being told an hour and a half for delivery (on a Friday night during the huskies game which is understandable) my roommates and I began to get frustrated at the 1 hour and 45 mark and called only to be told they tried coming to the door and calling (they didn't, they said they tried the apartments, we live in a house so there was no apartment number given) and they just sent the driver out again, twenty minutes and another phone call later with an employee who gave off a no-shits-given attitude, once the driver showed we were on the porch and he just came up not saying a word and nelt down and dropped the pizza on the porch and turned around and proceeded to walk to his car. I wish you could sort out anyone not from the NY area or Chicago when looking at pizza reviews on here. This is NOT a pizza place (it's a bar) and this pizza is NOT New York style pizza. Just because it has a thin crust, doesn't mean it is New York style. I'm a little unsure this pizza fits a particular style, but whatever it is they have here is actually very tasty. The crust is unlike anything I've ever tried. It is thin and crispy and, in many ways, more like a crunchy yet chewy cracker than a pizza. The sauce is pretty good, which makes the overall flavor pop. There is no ambience and the service was fine. People on here complain it takes too long to make, but that's just because the pizza needs to cook much, much longer than a normal pizza. I think it's the crust. However, you can call ahead if you don't want to wait, so it isn't a problem. At any rate, I'd rather have a good NY pizza any day over this, but Tacoma is a long way from NY and I'd rather have this than a lot of other non-NY pizzas. I'll be back. read more

Being from Philly and enjoy NY style pizza, I was recommended Cloverleaf. Its not Philly style but it is the best pizza I have had in a 100 mile radius. Great quality ingredients are used and you will definitely taste the difference from the major pizza chains. This is now my go to for pizza! read more

Although not my preferred style of pizza, this was another good suggestion. The place looks like a real dive though (so if this is a problem for you, move on)...full of tough looking people...or people who look like they are about to gamble away their last dollar on the table slots... But if you can get past that, the pizza is pretty interesting. We got the "Huge" size, Turco pizza which is a meatlover...your basic pepperoni, bacon, hamburger, sausage combo. The pizza took a while to get which was aggravating considering we were starving and about to eat our own paw, but once it came out, it was smolderingly hot. The cheese was bubbling. Tonight was my first time there, and I had a great experience. Sat in the family cavern. As soon as I walked in, I was awash in nostalgia. The smell (pizza, a good smell). The lighting. The video games. I felt right at home, and about 8 years old. Having been warned about slowness, called in the pizza order ahead of time. (The guy on the phone was nice.) It was on our table 10 minutes after arrival, too soon to finish the popcorn that came to the table first. (Bliss!!) The pizza was really good--crispy thin crust, nicely browned cheese on the edges. Plentiful toppings. $2 mug of rootbeer and a free refill. The service was friendly. Some kid kept bringing my daughter stuffed animals he won from the toy claw machine. Overall, really swell. Cloverleaf, I love you. Please don't ever change a thing! The pizza here is hands down my favorite pie I've ever had, and I'm not even exaggerating. If anyone ever suggests pizza, Cloverleaf is my go-to. The sauce is great, not overly rich, not runny and wimpy... the toppings are REAL, almost excessive, and CHUNKY... the crust is a uniquely thin, almost cracker like style instead of gigantic thick bread (personally, I prefer thin crusts pizzas anyway).. the sizes are perfect - you can go big if you're starving, or get just enough to share with another person.. the cheese is plentiful and not generic tasting.. ... and to top it all off... ALL MEAT PIZZA. with huge chunks of real meat! I'm in heaven! Oh, and plan on calling ahead. The pizzas take a good 30-45 minutes. If you have time to kill though, hang out and have a beer or play some pool while you wait. read more

WOW!!! We have a pizza joint in North Tacoma that makes wonderful pizza. They have dine in (90% of the time the service is great), take out and delivery. The last 3 times we ordered delivery, the pie was cool, soggy and sticking to the paper on the bottom. At $27 plus tip per pizza, I had enough and called Zac who was the manager at this time. He was full of excuses to the point of acting like it was my fault because I ordered ingredients that "don't do well when they sit in a box for a long time", also they cannot guarantee any pizza be crispy when it is delivered. I was given the option to have another pie delivered or get a refund. Zac was very rude throughout the conversation with his attitude and slight comments, and acted like I was nothing but an annoyance to him. Did I mention that I am the client? Customers are the reason he has a paycheck? I told him I wanted a refund mainly because of his rudeness. To be honest, I didn't even expect anything, just to have him understand that I was frustrated and hope he would do better the next time. With that, he explained I needed to have the pizza ready for the delivery guy to pick it back up. Yes, you heard right. He wanted his disgusting pie back. Okay, no problem. 15 minutes after my pathetic conversation with Zac, he had the delivery guy call me and tell me they can't give me a refund. They can only comp with another pie or send another one out (NOT). I thought it was just another example of Zac's unprofessionalism when he couldn't even talk to me. He had the delivery man call me. If I owned this business, Zac would be out of a job because no client should be treated like they are an irritation and aren't worth the time for a conversation about the quality of my company's product. Fortunately Zac does not own the company. And I will have a conversation with the owner. The pizzas at Cloverleaf are wonderful and on the whole, my family has had good service. This is definitely some of the worst service I've ever had. So bad, in fact, that I've never actually been able to try their pizza! The first time my husband and I tried, we had out toddler with us. We walked in and were told in no uncertain terms to leave. It was the middle of the day. Apparently they're a bar during the day. We weren't even allowed to order take out while one of waited in the car with our toddler. Then we tried again tonight, for delivery this time. The first time I called, the guy on the phone wouldn't talk to me until I called back from an "unblocked" number. I was calling from my cell phone, which I don't have number blocking on. Luckily I was at home, so used my house phone. Then we went through the rigamarole of name, phone number, address and he asked me if I wanted it delivered. Apparently, I'm outside of their delivery area, despite being only 4 miles from the restaurant. After that I was done. Three strikes, you're out, Cloverleaf. From the reviews I've read, it seems this service is typical, so I'm not sorry. We won't be trying again. We'll stick with Sammy's. read more

First of all I appreciate that this is not a chain and I think it shows in the final product and in the service. If you judge a pizza place by how much it costs compared to Little Caesars or Dominos then that is such a narrow view and unfortunately is a reflection of far too many Yelp reviews in general and how unrealistic they are. I loved the trademark crispy crust on my Larsen (with added pineapple) and the freshness and quality of the generous toppings was unmistakable. I am also a fan of the relaxed and inviting atmosphere. One delivery almost resulted in a call to 911 after a scarey 15 minute incident and 2 calls to Cloverleaf. Would never have known about this place but my aunt and uncle have been coming here for about 40 years and think it's by far the best pizza around, so what a better way to celebrate my birthday and end of our 1000 mile roadtrip than with a lunch gathering there? We went straight for the Bud and pizza, and Chris and I went for the regular when we should have gotten a small (oh we finished it, dontcha worry). I can see how people either love it or hate it. It is greasy and did take a while, but that crust is like no other. It's sorta like a crispy parmesan shell/bread. I wanted to eat just one slice, but noooooo. My boyfriend has been a die hard Cloverleaf fan for years. He said his parents used to take him here when he was young and he loved it ever since. I was a bit skeptical. I mean he gushed and gushed about this pizza. We live in Gig Harbor and there is a pizza place in town so I really didn't see what he need was to drive across the bridge. I mean it is just pizza right? Boy was I wrong! The pizza is fantastic, the crust? OMG so good!! The service is always great with a very friendly staff. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait, but I have waited just as long for delivery pizza that was so not worth it. We went in to watch the race one day and since the place was quiet, not that many customers, they turned up the volume so we could hear the race. We didn't even have to ask, they just did it for us.
