I've only been to the Leaf once since my mother in law passed because she (Hiroko) made the best dough ever. I ordered what I used to get back then. Pepperoni, sausage and black olives. I have to say the taste and flavors were pretty much spot on. It brought back a flood of memories. If you've never been give it a shot. It's not like other pizza places because they don't use a conveyor oven it's old school. So don't expect your pie in 13 minutes. My family loves to come here and I never really got it. This last time though, I understood. We got 2 pizzas, one regular and one huge, to split between 5 adults and 2 children and it was perfect. I one I ate was the veggie and it was really good! It had a good amount of topping to crust ratio and the crust was not too thin and not too thick. I am also a sucker for free popcorn. read more

Have been going yo the Cloverleaf Tavern for 54 years and still love their pizza. The prices are reasonable and great service.

My dad grew up in Tacoma going to this place and he just moved back to the area from California. He was super excited to take me and my family here. As soon as we walked into the family side (it was around 8:20 pm) we were greeted by a super pissed off, rude server named Ari who looked like she was coming down off a crack binge. She started yelling "you can't eat here we are closed" and the area was filled with families. She said the other side is open so we started walking over and then she yelled "NO KIDS OVER THERE!! You can order a pizza at the bar and leave I am locking the door". I was honestly legitimately confused at first because she was so frantic that she was hard to understand. I told my dad that I thought it was open until 9 pm. Ari yelled "you need to go on the website or go look at the door!" I ignored her and told my dad that I was on Google and she again interjected into our conversation and I finally told her that I was talking to my dad not her. Mind you my 5 and 9 year old kids are scared at this point due to this chicks ballistic behavior. Ari needs to leave the service industry and go work in a basement away from the general public. It's sad that my dad loves this place so much, hopefully they get some better service so it doesn't go into the ground. I hear it used to be great, but my experience is that it's a total shit hole. read more

The pizza is delicious, highly recommend! The system is less good. First, the order on website doesn't let you do a half and half pizza (like just cheese on one half and pepperoni on the other half) -- you have to call. Second, very silly, "we don't do timed orders." So I had finished telling my whole order on the phone and then said what time I wanted to pick it up. And was told I have to call back 30-40 minutes before I want to pick it up and say the whole order again. Every other pizza place I've ever ordered from takes your order and then asks, what time do you want to pick it up? read more

Let me start out by saying that in the distant past this was my go to pizza joint, so I'm sad to have to write a poor review for a Tacoma icon. As a matter fact, I typically don't write reviews for food, because taste is subjective. But here it goes: I've eaten a lot of pizza throughout Tacoma, University Place, Fircrest and Lakewood, and this has to be the most disappointing pizza I've had in a long time. It tasted like ever topping on our pizza's was rinsed in water before being added. The sausage had no caramelization, but that didn't matter because there was absolutely no spice or zest to it. Did you rinse it before adding it to my pizza? Sausage should be cooked until it's caramelized, and some of the fat should still be present so it's rendered on the pizza. The pineapple should have been sweet and juice, it was dry and flavorless. Every topping eaten by itself was tasteless. I couldn't even taste or notice the pepperoni or salami on the pizza. If you're rinsing your toppings before applying them to the pizza, you really need to stop. Next on my list of disappointments is the mozzarella. You can always taste the difference between whole milk and skim milk mozzarella. And this place is definitely trying to save a few bucks by using skim milk mozzarella. If you've eaten at Half Pint Pizza or Sammys in Fircrest or Tacoma, you know exactly what I'm talking about here. Their cheese is creamy and holds the toppings to the crust. At Cloverleaf, there is no stringiness when you pull a slice from the pie. You could even see it was curdling as it cooled down. I don't know when you stopped using whole milk mozzarella, but you need to start using it again. Lastly, the sauce was extremely bland. I could see the spices, but I couldn't taste them. There was enough sauce on the pizza, but no zing to tastebuds. I could go on and on about how tasteless or flavorless this pizza is, but I think you get the point. I'm going to stop coming here for pizza, at least for a while. Hopefully they'll make some changes on how they prep their toppings and go back to using whole milk mozzarella. Until then, I'll be watching the reviews and hope things get better. read more

Well, I live in Gig Harbor and I asked a friend Carrie " Where is the best Pizza in Tacoma, as you were born here" and I helped her move a few boxes after her move to the North End and she said let's go to lunch at the Cloverleaf & We had the favorite with a great salad and I agreed that the Cloverleaf is the best Pizza in Tacoma.....yummy and the toppings were so plentiful with the freshest you don't get at most places as they really do care as it shows when the beautiful Pie arrives at your table and your eye's say...that's a Pizza.... Someone told me we HAD to try the pizza here. We stopped in on a Saturday night after being out all afternoon. We ordered wings, cheesy garlic bread, french fries, the house favorite pizza, and the nurd pizza. The "spicy" wings you would think come in a sauce? They don't. It's like a dry rub that's a little bit spicy and sweet. They were pretty good, just not what I was expecting. Everything else was pretty bad. No seasoning or flavor for the most part. The bread seemed to just be a sliced baguette that they melted cheese on top of. I didn't taste any garlic. The pizza, while loaded with toppings, lacked any seasoning making it super bland. We didn't even bother taking the leftovers home. The servers were very nice, but everything took quite a while. But that's just the nature of eating out these days, so no impact on the review...that's based on food alone. read more

Oh my goodness! I love, love, love Cloverleaf pizza! I haven't been here in so many years and am so glad we decided to give it a try. I don't know if it has gotten much better or if I just forgot, but this is by far my new Tacoma fave pizza. The crust is delicious. It's thin, but still soft. The flavor is amazing. This pizza parlor has been around for at least 4 decades that I can recall. This is a great style pizza. It's all about the toppings with this pizza place; the sauce is light on these. Cheese is fairly light too. So many topping; you actually get full from a couple slices. The edge of the crust is thin and crispy, and the toppings go to the edge. Yes, it's expensive, but you get a high-quality pizza that will fill you up. Plan ahead as wait is a little longer due to high-demand. I've been coming here x 1990, my husband since the early 80's. I placed phone order yesterday @5:15pm, pizza was Not ready until 7:20pm. I was told 40 minutes. My Husband waited and waited. He was told they were behind, 115 orders, would be another 20 minutes. As he waited, customers picked up their order that was placed at 6 PM. Obvious poor communication among overwhelmed staff. Over the last 1+ yr. service is hit & miss, mostly miss, same w/ pizza, either soggy or overcooked.. I understand equipment issues, however, Not repeated poor service (high staff turner), obvious poor training, poor customer service, snippy attitudes from waitstaff, being forgotten about while staff chats by register. My husband and I have been going to Cloverleaf Pizza for over a decade. We love everything about the establishment... The atmosphere, service is amazing, and pizza has always been one of a kind deliciousness. It's been a couple of years since we made it up here, and the pizza was not the same. The toppings were fantastic, but the bottom of the pizza was not cooked thoroughly and was very white and bread-like, not crispy and delicious at all. I was excited to try out this pub with all the good reviews, but I found it less enthusiastic as other yelpers have commented. Our party ordered a variety of individual to shared pizza sizes. I really liked the option of individual sized pizzas which is about the size of a side plate. We each ordered a side salad to go with our meals. The pizza was average tasting. Nothing dazzled my tastebuds and I compared it similar to frozen pizzas. Side salads were average too which a handful of lettuce croutons and dressing of choice. Really good pizza! We visited for dine-in on the tavern side during the Covid transition. The facilities were clean and well maintained. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered the garlic cheese bread and a Monster pizza. The garlic cheese bread was disappointing (lacked flavor). It was made with very nice bread and cooked well, but it just didn't have any garlic or cheese flavor. The pizza took longer than expected to arrive (almost 30 minutes after we ordered). They have a thin and crispy crust with a very good flavor. I really liked all of the toppings. Their sausage was especially good (and I'm usually not a fan of Italian sausage).
