Can't just take the bread off -for a wheat allergy.
    Stephanie M.

I ordered through Grubhub. Let me just say something. If your going to work in the hospitality industry and you receive an order with "multiple paragraphs" allergy warnings and you as a restaurant don't have time or want to take care of the allergies stated. CALL THE CUSTOMER! Save them AND yourselves the time and effort. I ordered multiple different items and have ordered in the past from here with no problems. At a Thursday @ 1130am. I ordered a burger and specified I did not want a bun. I stated the person ordering the burger has a wheat allergy. When I called to ask what happened the women who answered the phone was finishing a conversation and laughing with someone else. Then She said a distracted hello? I said, haha hello good morning to you. She said, yes? Can I help you? (With an attitude) I said thank you for asking, yes, I ordered from Grubhub and I've ordered from you all before. And you have been great! I have food allergies and so does my boyfriend. I said the burger has a bun on it. I wrote wheat allergy please don't put bun. She yelled back to the kitchen, you put a bun on the burger? She proceeded to tell me that she will have her delivery boy come back pick up the wrong burger (and hand me a new burger with no bun.) I said just please next time read the comments section for allergy's and if you can't handle it please call the customer and tell them. It saves us all the trouble and a possible food allergy episode. She cut me off (I was saying this as nice as possible. I am in the food industry and when an allergy comes in and we think we can't handle it we call the customer and say sorry we are too busy to be super careful for your allergy. That simple)! She said "you have no idea I've had a crazy morning here!! it's super busy when you leave me multiple different paragraphs it's just a lot to read and deal with! Its very overwhelming." I said to her well if you see that there's an allergy and you guys cannot handle it please call the customer and tell them before you just make the order however you want without caring about the persons diatary needs. She again told me that she's going to send the guy back to get the burger and they're going to make me a new one and I said you know what that's a waste of time and energy for the delivery person and for you guys especially since you're having a crazy morning I'll just have someone else eat it that can have wheat and I just won't try to order a burger again. She said no no I'm going to just remake it and send it out. I said I do not want a new burger. I just won't order it again. Everything else looks good! Thanks. (Instead of suggesting I order next time the diet burger which I didn't see on their menu till now ((doesn't contain a bun)) she got all angry with me.) I was trying to explain calmly to her if you don't have time to take care of an allergy call the customer and let them know. That simple. Or say it would be better if you could come into the restaurant next time to order if you have allergy concerns. She proceeded to continue to be rude to me on the phone. Finally I said you know what if your too busy to be careful to make food for someone with an allergy I will have to remember this and not order from you next time. That's too bad. Especially during a pandemic! I also tipped the delivery guy more money after I tipped on Grubhub with a small bottle of hand sanitizer and chocolate. He made out on this failed order. I gave 4 stars because the rest of my order was yummy. Just a little advice to "The coffee club" When you guys answer your phone be prepared to greet the customer with respect and speak professionally. Do not make excuses that your too busy to attend to special needs. If you are - call the customer and tell them before you half ass the order. Not everyone can be in the club. I get it. Thanks.

The coffee club has typical diner fare. The burgers are always made to my liking. Their rolls, bagels, toast, croissants etc are always fresh and never stale. The cobb salad with grilled chicken is really good. The spaghetti and meatballs is pretty tasty if that's what you are in the mood for and can't make it to the nearest Italian restaurant. When we order we usually order breakfast and dinner because they close early. Its worth a shot if your in the mood for some diner food.

The fried calamari could've been less oily, as this took away from the crunch; also slightly overcooked. Baked clams were decent. Salmon was cooked to perfection. Pizza was great! They reheated for us, since our group was too busy chatting. Desserts - phenomenal! Drinks- ehh. Brunch menu - French toast was decent. The salmon over hash brown , was lacking a touch of something , couldn't pinpoint what was lacking. Chicken and waffles, decent, wasn't the best I've had. Service- jonathan was our waiter during brunch and also our bartender. He's GREAT! During service dinner, we had a female waitress and I felt she lacked attention to details and couldn't flag her down when we wanted something. Overall, service is a hit or miss , I guess? I pass this place daily, zoomin' by I'd see Philadelphia something. The video gave a full explanation and why I need to put Philadelphia Grille in my lunch rotation. Walking inside, I know what I want. Steak with white american cheese with the works (onions, peppers, and hot peppers) There's an option for mayo, I'm not sure who's getting mayo on their cheesesteak but hey, you do you! The owner comes to the front and I tell him I saw this spot on social media. Everything looks amazing, I can't wait to try my sandwich. How long have you been in business? I'm expecting 18 months, he tells me over 30 years?? Wow! Not only is Philadelphia Grille a sandwich shop but they're also serving pizza for decades. I must point out, Philadelphia Grille is a very small spot. Walking inside, you're faced with a small counter. Once you have your food, they have tables and chairs in a covered lanai. I'd be a chilly Billy eating my sandwich so I took it to go. Once I get back to my Brooklyn Fortress of Solitude I dig in. The cheesesteak my way? Dynamite. Italian bread from Brooklyn wrapping up a cheesy meat fest. Philadelphia Grille did everything right in Brooklyn! I can't wait to come back and try the roast pork. And then mix it up the following week with a grilled chicken sammy.

The restaurant is not overly expensive -- the $65.00 lunch bill below suggests a high-end selection and/or apps. I had a pineapple mint lemonade, sea bass on saffron risotto, a lovely salad topped with potato gnocchi, and cake dessert for $85 inclusive of 20% tip and tax. Nearly everything tasted fresh and homemade. Worth it. If this were served in Restaurant Row, the bill would be $40 more and the food not nearly as good. Because Beets & Carrots offers something rare and startlingly somehow in decline: food that tastes like food the body happily accepts as such. They serve meals that stand out simply because they taste like food. It was nice to dine outside the home feeling confident no digestive issues, lethargy, brain fog, bloating, etc were around the corner. You can tell that someone health conscious who cares about how ingredients show up in the meal is in the kitchen, someone who thinks food is both very fun and very serious. Least favorite: The lemonade. Mostly personal preference here, as I prefer a much tarter, less watery lemonade with higher lemon:water volume ratio. But I think most people would like it; I would get it again. Favorite: Both the entree and salad (which surprised me with a deliciously simple horseradish dressing) were great, but the bass wins in my book. Skin crisped to perfection...very flavorful fish and a great cut...creamy, perfect risotto. I appreciated that the risotto wasn't too salty as well.

Home is where the heart is and there is nothing quite like a home cooked meal. I have to say most Bay Ridgians enjoy dining local and in our neighborhood. I love to support neighborhood gems because majority of restaurant owners here, love their clients, establish loyalty through cooking delicious food and provide consistent great customer service. I was in the mood for a " comfort food"breakfast, you know, eggs, avocado, mozzarella, tomato, deliciousness and I found it on the menu simply named "Breakfast Sandwich". Which consists of voila: Mozzarella, avocado, tomato jam, arugula, crispy bacon, dijonaise, sunny side up egg between multigrain toasts. I ordered this sans the bacon ( requested turkey bacon which they do not have). What arrived in my plate was this decadent open faced egg sandwich that looked delectable.. and was!! Let's first talk about the wheat toast: I tasted it naked and it simply melted in my mouth. The ingredients worked well together, perfect synchronicity. I used one half of the toast to sop up any fallen ingredients. Highly recommend! For a drink, I wanted something a bit different, thus, ordered the Mango Mint Peach tea, fruity with a hint of mint. Loved it and went well with the Sammy! There are lovely options besides breakfast sandwiches like quinoa, oatmeal, granola, pancakes, French toast.. breakfast is served all day and lunch is served @noon. I arrived before 12 and was told I can order breakfast or lunch. It has a cozy, intimate vibe which I love.. one where you can dine solo, or do work or read or just enjoy the fabulous food. I will make "The Common" my home away from home. We ordered the chicken liver mousse, crispy potato tart, and burger. The chicken liver mousse is a must order and something I get every time I come here, whether it is this location or the Park Slope one. The mousse itself is rich, creamy, savory, and packed with umami. I just wish it came with something better on the side. The pita was a little underwhelming and was not warmed all the way through. The crispy potato tart was excellent. The potato was super crispy, and a bite with the salmon, egg, sour cream, and potato together was perfect. The lightly dressed arugula helped cut through the richness and made for a nice palate cleanser. The burger looked pretty simple when it arrived, but it ended up being surprisingly good. The patty was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Overall, a great neighborhood spot and one I would happily come back to.
