There was a scheduled neighborhood power outage at my home so I decided to come here for breakfast and write in my journal/organize my calendar in my weekly planner. The first time I came to this restaurant, I was sorely disappointed that they were a cash only business (I have hardly carried any cash post-pandemic) so I turned around and went to another business. They do have a sign stating they have an ATM machine for those who don't have cash. This time around, I came with cash and excited to try some place new. Upon arrival (Friday morning), I was greeted by such friendly staff. I had my choice to sit anywhere in the restaurant so I opted for a booth in the corner. I had a healthy sandwich with sprouts, avocado, shredded cheddar cheese, bacon, tomato, and cucumber on wheat. I opted for a side salad instead of fries. Everything came within minutes after ordering. The diner was busy but it didn't bother me as I spent time in my journal writing my morning pages. I really enjoyed this place and look forward to coming back. I enjoyed the art display on the walls. Parking wasn't a challenge for me but it wasn't easy. My personal favorite breakfast place in Long Beach Part of me didn't think they needed my yelp review since they do so well and there's a line outside on weekends lot of the time. The photo is a veggie scramble, which was delicious if you want to avoid some meat. Speaking of meat, I love her corn, beef, hash, and eggs, Old-school diner style corned beef hash. I enjoy their black coffee, they use "Boyds" if you're familiar with Boyds, it's pretty good . They serve lunch as well, but I don't think I've ever ordered lunch because I love breakfast and they do breakfast so well. Also, they have three different salsas to choose from that they make in the house which our absolutely delicious. This place always gets so dang crowded on the weekends we generally avoid it unless we can get there before 9am, but since the first place we were going to was unexpectedly closed, we bit the bullet. Luckily, however, since it was around 11:30am and we were ok with the low counter seats (the ones that make you feel like a kindergartner, lol), we didn't have to walk too long. I got the Sal's Enchilada Eggs with Coffee and the hubby got Michelle's Tostadas with a Pepsi. I feel like they'd changed up the menu somewhat since we last visited, perhaps for the better. CASH ONLY!! They do have an ATM machine available but they do not take credit cards!! The wait here isn't too bad compared to other brunch spots in Long Beach and the food is great!! This place a such a gem in Long Beach and arguably the best breakfast in the city! My wife and I have been coming here since we first started dating 12 years ago, and the food is still just as good! We always get the Baja burrito with steak, and it always hits the spot. I enjoy a cup or two of coffee as well, their freshly ground and brewed coffee is always smooth and never burnt. Everyone is always friendly and the service is fast and attentive. The cafe always gives off mom and pop vibes and is well maintained. Mine has always had the browning from the pan in the plate Side leaving the hash chunky looking. Well, I tell you, such a small difference bright the browned flavor out that much more! Very good! This came with home fries, just normal, not my favorite. And sourdough toast. We are all the jams in the table and then I started wondering why in earth they do single use containers when their salsas and syrups are delivered in pouring pitchers? The half and half too. That I can understand better, cuz if they are busy and some one wants creamer it's right there. I'd prefer to ask for milk and so that came in a tiny pitcher. To top off the meal, as we were walking home I was admiring the pruning of a plumeria and the home owner came out to say we could talks both trays of clippings she'd left. Need to update my review. My wife took the day off so we decided to go to breakfast at our favorite spot. We sat at the bar and noticed that my shirt stuck to the edge of the bar. There was sticky syrup on the edge of the bar, so they only wipe the top? I had to ask for a wet rag and my shirt was nasty. Took a while to get the food, but the kitchen was swamped with orders. It wasn't even that busy inside at 8:30am on friday. Some were take out though. We also over heard some heated moments from the managers. There was some tension there and some attitude. I noticed some issues were going on with the managers and the kitchen. But being so close to the kitchen at the bar you over hear everything. When the food arrived it was great, the same food we always get. My fajita omelet and my wife got the hanks chille verde omelet. We noticed right away they put a lot less meat then usual. They were very hallow omelets. Tortillas were soft and warm. But I always get one that is crusty and stale around the edges. When the bill arrived our jaw dropped. The prices have been jacked way up. They now are charging a egg fee because of the "shortage" and 4$ for our coffee's. 2 omelets and 2 coffees was 83$. I kid you not, thats with tip. Don't know if we will return. We been getting this same 2 omelets and coffee for years and walked out paying around 45$. So now its almost double that. Skimping the food, making the consumer pay for the egg shortage, over charging coffee when it should be included with any meal. I dont agree with these prices. read more

Oh the food.... This place used to be the bar set high for every other breakfast lunch / shop in Long Beach and now it's simply garbage. I work in the industry, and have for over 25 years, my wife and I used to eat here sometimes two times a week before the new owners. Now, I do not recommend it as the prices have gone up, service down (except Jose who is and will always be the best server in LBC) and the food...smh BAD. See the attached photo of the burger my wife sent started eating fast because she was on her lunch break from work and it turned out to be bloody raw. Worse part the new owner offered her 50% off her meal the next time she came in. Guess what? She went back, taking a friend and ordered another burger and went to pay the bill. When she reminded them about the 50% comp for the RAW HAMBURGER. When the owner who was taking tickets came back, they only took 10% off and said they didn't remember what happened. Waste of time. Bad food. Bad Service. Bad Ownership and a huge decline from a destination place that we've literally brought dozens of people to over the last ten years. read more

It tasted sour like too much vinegar or something. Portions were decent but not enough to offset the bad taste. Blueberry pancakes: Spongy, not fluffy. Little greasy. Meh at best. The place was empty this morning. I use to love this place but it has fallen into the wrong hands we ordered this morning. Why did it take more than 40 minutes to serve our food on a slow day the service was horrible we ended up leaving without eating. We paid our bill and left. What was upsetting about the situation. The manager took our money without asking what happened instead he bashed us like if it was our fault. He was a rude owner with no management skills With this kind of attitude. We went here for breakfast on a weekday mid morning and it was busy but we got greeted and seated right away in a window booth, perfect! Our waiter was friendly and efficient and service was quick. I ordered the French toast combo with scrambled and bacon. My sister had the eggs Benedict and she said it was great. Our waiter was really on top of things and was refilling our drinks at every turn and checking in on us. The restaurant is cozy and cute in a good way not kitschy overkill or tacky. The people dining were pure LB cool...we are on 4th Street. The couple in the booth behind us were an adorable eclectic pair, dressed to the tee in vintage. Love it! The ambiance here is welcoming, cozy, friendly, hip (but in a non assuming way), and just makes you want to linger a bit longer. I given this place my last chance. Server never came back to check on us after serving our meal. My hamburger meat was raw and I sat there for 10 mins waiting for the server to come back so I could send it back to be cooked. I finally was able to wave her down. They cooked it properly but gave me back the eggs that were served with it and they were stone cold. This is not the first time this happened. That was the last straw. Absolutely loved this place. First of all, I'm not even a pancake person, but I have been dreaming about this pancake since I left. It was perfectly fluffy and so freakin delicious. And of course, the rest of the food was perfect. The bacon was crispy and the eggs were not dry. The stuffed French toast wasn't too sweet (which I appreciated) and the potatoes/home fries were crispy. The coffee was awesome and staff were great at making sure our cups never went half empty. Used to love this place and my usual spot to sit was at the bar. A few months ago I went in solo and headed for my usual barstool, to the right. I was told I could not sit there because ownership had a specific floor plan in place with respect to volume at certain times. The hostess this was more than apologetic and respectful in her request, as I was seated at one of booths- generally seating for up to four; or five with a squeeze. Enough said. One star, never again, thank goodness for many other wonderful breakfast cafés in Long Beach.
