    Mimosa

I came to The Conservatory for breakfast twice during my stay at the Ritz Carlton. Our stay included $84 credit towards our breakfast. I have to say I was very pleased with the quality of service: there was always someone nearby to ask questions, and each of our servers were beyond welcoming and helpful. Nothing beats an ocean view in Half Moon Bay. I was glad to be seated near the windows to enjoy the ambiance. All of the seats had a good view though. I was excited to try a handful of different breakfast options: berries, belgian waffles, mimosas, oatmeal, hashbrowns, and the lox bagel. I wasn't even hungry but I finished everything. Maybe it was the mimosas I had, but each dish was very appetizing and filling. Our server noticed that I love mimosas, so she personally made me a special one: Kombucha mimosa! I enjoyed everything about this restaurant. The view, the service, the comfortable seats, and the classic options with elevated taste.

We have the clam chowder and it was absolutely supreme! The right amount and size of potatoes and just tons of clams. I think one of my favorite chowders ever. So much flavor

The staff were amazing. They were on point with the coffee refills, water and other needs during the dining experience. The dining experience was relaxing and a perfect pace with a beautiful view.

The crab tartare portion was quite small and mixed with cabbage; the taste was just okay. The clam chowder was a bit too salty, though one positive was that it did not have the sandy texture that chowder at many other places sometimes has. The ribeye, burger, and other meat dishes were all good, and the ribeye in particular was tender and well prepared. The main downside was the service. We were helped by three different staff members--two gentlemen and one lady--and unfortunately none of them made us feel welcomed. Their manner felt robotic, with flat expressions and little warmth. One thing I found especially odd was that the restaurant asked when we made the reservation whether we were celebrating anything, and we told them it was for a birthday. Usually that question suggests some small acknowledgment, such as a complimentary dessert or a warm birthday greeting, but here nothing happened at all. That made me wonder why they asked in the first place.

We were staying at the Ritz-Carlton and this was one of the places to eat. We had breakfast here. No reservations and got seated as soon as she set the table. Right next to the window looking out to the ocean. The place is really nice. There were a lot of people here on a Saturday morning. The staff was really nice and friendly. I ordered a hot chocolate when she took my drink order. I didn't want whipped cream but it came with it as they brought it to the table. Luckily my wife loves whipped cream. I didn't complaint. I got the pancakes with lemon curd and fresh fruit. The pancake was so light and yummy. I really liked it and the fruit was fresh. The wife got the eggs benedict. It was really great too. Loved the food and service here. Top notch.

We came here for breakfast. It was a nice day, and the sun was out, and it brightened up the dining area. We were seated by the window. Our server was friendly. She brought out a complementary little shot of a smoothie. I forget what she called it, but it had orange juice, turmeric, ginger, and I can't remember. It didn't taste great. Not for me. My husband and I decided to order the eggs benedict and pancakes to share. The eggs benedict was good, and it came with house made hashbrowns, which was ok. I've had better. The hashbrown was a little hard, like it was over cooked. It was flat and hardly had potatoes in the middle of it. It was not good. It was more like a big hard chip. The pancakes were very good. They were very fluffy, and the lemon curd gave it a good added flavor. Didn't need syrup. We had a nice breakfast overall.

Super place to grab a great meal! The Conservatory is located near the front desk area and elevators of the hotel here at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay. This entire property is very special to us as is the area since I grew up near here. The employees are some of the best in class, easy to see and feel here. Not only does this apply for this specific area, but the entirety of the property. The food was excellent, which was necessary given the price point here. The Wagyu Bolognese stole the show, just fantastic! The ambiance here speaks for itself. Higher end, on the ocean, and nothing spared in this space that would say anything other than welcome, and enjoy. Dynamic place, top end hotel, a place for wellness of mind and spirit.

Late to review but unforgettable experience. Valet was hilarious and couldn't have been cooler. Waiter was the best. Seriously the best steak I've ever eaten. Half moon bay we miss you already!

The Conservatory is a perfectly adequate hotel restaurant with a lovely ambiance and view. The staff are all friendly and professional. The food won't blow your socks off, especially given the price tag but will suffice if you want to stay on the property. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. The complimentary scallion bread was soft and tasty. My friend and I got the iberico pork loin and the cioppino. The pork loin was juicy and had that nice nutty Iberico flavor but it was a little bland and tougher than expected. I get that the point is to let the pork shine but it was missing a flavor enhancer of some sort. Between the two dishes, I preferred the cioppino. As far as cioppino goes, it was good but would not land in my top 3 cioppino list. I did appreciate that the crab required little work in this presentation.

The Conservatory is basically the only restaurant for dinner at the Ritz, Half Moon Bay. Quite honestly, we wouldn't have even originally chosen to dine here if it weren't for the convenience with that. I had booked a reservation through the hotel concierge, specifically requesting for a window table. You'd think that since we were hotel guests, the request would have been prioritized and honored, but it wasn't. If you're not sitting by the window which overlooks the views of the ocean, it basically just feels like you're at any underwhelming hotel restaurant. Thankfully our server did have wonderful table-side service as he was super on top of checking in on us, water refills, crumb sweeping, etc. For food we ordered 2x cioppino, corn fritters, and 2x strawberry mules which totaled to over $200. Everything was just OK; the cioppino flavors could have been better. Though I did like that it came out and remained piping hot. The strawberry mule tasted a bit watered down and was light on the strawberry part. Overall, everything was definitely overpriced and average at best. I'd skip coming here even if I was a hotel guest next time.

We really enjoyed our day the Ritz Carlton HMB and thoroughly loved the food. Our server, Antonia was very sweet and friendly. Starting from the green onion bread and it's the perfect salty, spreadable butter to the dessert, everything was just delicious. We had the corn fritters, the prawn cocktail (best so far), ahi tuna (good), truffle fries, crispy chicken sandwich, lobster burger, burrata (ok), berry cold press (pretty good), every salad (ok), Branzino (best so far), chocolate cake, signature sundae (really good). Overall loved the experience and the ambience, definitely will return for another occasion soon.

    Coastal Midnight

We came to The Conservatory for a casual Saturday lunch and were seated right away, even as a party of thirteen. They placed us in the private wine room, which was perfect for our group and gave the whole meal an easy, relaxed feel. Service was excellent throughout: waters topped up constantly, dishes cleared smoothly, and the pacing felt natural as we moved from drinks to entrées to dessert. Between kids and adults, we covered a good portion of the lunch menu. The Kale & Sweet Potato Salad had a refreshing mix of greens and soft roasted cubes, finished generously with parmesan. The Pan-Seared Branzino arrived with crisped skin over grilled asparagus and dots of garlic aioli. The Half Moon Bay Cioppino came in a small pot packed with mussels, shrimp, crab, and white fish, with toasted bread on the side to soak up the broth. Several people ordered the Steak Frites, a compact Wagyu strip loin with Café de Paris butter and thick-cut fries. The Boletus Risotto was creamy and full of mushrooms, with a drizzle of aged Modena vinegar. The Westholme Wagyu Burger was solid with melted cheddar, bacon, and fries. The kids' spaghetti with marinara was simple and well-received, and the chocolate chip cookie was warm and (according to the experts) "yummy." Desserts for the adults were nicely done: the Golden Hour Gateau had a polished chocolate finish with light whipped topping, while the Coastal Midnight was an airy mousse with crisp chocolate curls. Drinks were taken care of with equal attention; everything from cold-pressed juices (Earth and Berry Bliss) to the Fitzgerald Old Fashioned, margaritas, hot chocolate, and iced lattes came out in the right rhythm. For a full table, the staff handled it all smoothly. Value-wise, it's in line with what you'd expect at a Ritz-Carlton property. Prices are on the higher end, and while the food is good, it's not aiming for the level of ambition you'd find at Navio next door. But as a relaxed, family-friendly hotel restaurant with attentive service and a comfortable setting, it delivers what it's meant to. Overall, a very pleasant lunch with excellent service, thoughtful pacing, and a menu that works well for groups and kids. It was a positive experience and a place we'd happily return to next time we're back at the resort.

Location wise, short walk to the putting area and club house. The only drawback is it's a 2-story and no elevator. Good old fashion stairs with 2 landings before you reach the top. I watched a guest struggle, carrying HEAVY looking luggages to the second floor. My complimentary glass water bottle fell out of my purse and crash landed on the foyer floor as soon as we entered our room and I had to quickly use towels to sweep the shards and water before I can admire our space. I'm glad there was an abundance of towels as oppose to other hotels where it's an exact set on occupancy. Staff was attentive to get it cleaned up as well as provide an iron and board. They only offer steamer in the room. Our room is well appointed with nice calming colors. Loved how our room had a balcony. Not all upper units have one. A couple of inconveniences: the person below us had their music loud with bass during the day and then again during the evening around 10pm. I didn't call, as I was tempted to but only if it continued. They finally stopped at a decent time. The second was a first floor guest smoking weed. Some permeated through our window because I dropped my spoon on the floor (we ordered room service). It was verified when I opened the balcony door real quick to make sure it's what I smelled. We also experienced some odd protocols after we had a nice lunch at Mullin's (clubhouse). We thought it would be nice to have dessert at the outdoor ocean terrace area. We walked the grounds and asked if we can have a seat with shade. One staff went to check, however once I mentioned we were looking at getting dessert, the hostess turned it around and said for us sit at the bar or seating area beside the hostess stand. What was left were seats in the sun, plus in the seating area folks were sitting here and there. We wanted a table, which I did see there were some closer to the greens. I felt that as an overnight guest, it wouldn't matter dessert or meal, I'm a paying guest, not a visitor. So we left and went to check out The Conservatory. I checked in with the host and mentioned we'd like to have dessert (I was asked if any allergies) and was asked if we'd like the traditional seating area which would be a wait. We waited and got a table in the center. We got the menu and asked for the dessert menu. We were told not in that area, but the next one over. We were confused. I even saw the fake display dessert where we sat. And after all that waiting, we succumbed and just ordered food. Even with these oddities, we still had a great time. Staff provided excellent service. From check-in (Justin), adjusting keys for late check out (Stephen) to staff at Mullin's (we are there again before we left the property), golf staff, room service, to the front greeters at valet. The bag pipe performance, as he walked down the pathway was beautiful. The property views, just amazing!!!! We'd love to come back next year. The Ocean House would be the next spot.

I ordered room service and was overwhelmingly disappointed, every dish just got worse. The Caesar salad could've easily came from a bag, and the dressing was so thick it wouldn't come out of the saucer. The French fries were cold and stale, like they were made earlier and waiting for someone to order. The braised beef was not braised in any way. The beef was so dry it was hard to chew, with minimal sides. After contemplating to DoorDash something else since I was left hungry, still, I decided to give room service a second shot and order dessert. The dessert is what prompted me to leave this review. I've stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Dana point and do not remember such service. The ice cream was nearly melted when arriving to the room if you can't serve it close to frozen then it shouldn't be on the menu. And the cookies 100% came from Costco bakery. I was blown away with how cold they are. How do you serve cold chocolate chip cookies? Again, probably plate it, and then sitting in the fridge. With such a beautiful hotel and location, I would recommend eating elsewhere. $300 wasted on prepackaged food. I'd rather stay at the four seasons.

This typically isn't an issue because half Moon Bay runs cooler and comfortable temperatures for most of the year but my husband and I do prefer a colder room at night time so we slept with the door open. There was no ceiling fan, but they do have a couple of portable fans stored in the closets for use. Shower in our room had low water pressure, so not great for those with longhair. The hotel is right next-door to Sam's chowder House so easy walk. Beach access-there is a beautiful walking path right downstairs, which you can access from the hotel. Venue: We held the ceremony and cocktail hour outside and the reception indoors. Guests loved the deck and waterfront views. It was a bit windy at first, but the deck blocked most of it. Our 3:45 PM May ceremony was shady, so I wouldn't recommend fans or parasols for the main lawn. There's also another ceremony area beyond the trees that looked sunnier, we used that area to take family formals. We had 7 tables inside, but it definitely can fit at least 8, though a few tables must be broken down for the dance floor. We used that space for younger guests, which worked fine. One of the biggest perks was the in-house catering and many inclusions, which made planning much easier. Not having to coordinate multiple vendors kept everything streamlined. From our first tour, Crystal and Lisa were wonderful. Crystal was especially helpful and was basically our wedding planner/day of coordinator. On the wedding day, she and the team even helped set up our DIY décor, which we really appreciated. We brought everything from SF, and they were very accommodating. The venue also has great coastal décor that fit our theme perfectly. Food: The complimentary tasting was fun! Trying the food, drinks, and picking linens made it feel more real. We didn't love the passed appetizers served that day, so we chose different menu items. Guests especially liked the clam chowder, mahi mahi, pesto penne, and hibiscus margarita! The tri-tip was a bit tough, but likely because of us pushing dinner to start a bit later. We also added stationed appetizers for cocktail hour and late-night flatbread. I'd suggest placing the flatbread on the deck instead of near the dance floor so guests can enjoy it more easily. DJ: We loved how connected the deck and reception space felt--you could step outside for a drink, still hear the music, and easily return to the dance floor. We chose Mark Addington from the venue's approved DJ list, and he was fantastic. He kept everything running smoothly and brought great energy to the celebration. Culture & Entertainment: We wanted to include a tea ceremony and lion dancing, and Maverick's House made both easy. The upstairs bridal suite was a peaceful setting for our tea ceremony, and the outdoor space worked perfectly for the lion dance. We were the first couple to have lion dancing at the venue, and we appreciated being able to do that. We're so grateful we chose Maverick's House and couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate our wedding!

The entire team was so in tune with our needs and made the day extra special and fun. Could not recommend this venue and team more highly! We highly recommend going with the preferred vendors for Mavericks House - it was evident how familiar the vendors worked together to create the perfect day for us. Special shoutouts to Kelsey Currier (Coastside Wedding & Events), Mark Addington (DJ), and Julian Bergstein (Little Lightning Photo Booth)! Our wedding was in August, which could mean sunny skies (blue skies) or slightly overcast (coastal ethereal) - although it was slightly overcast on our wedding day, we were happy to have either forecast given how beautiful all the scenery was regardless. The deck at night in particular was incredibly underrated for how romantic it was, with marina lights reflecting off the water like a Van Gogh painting. One thing we were curious about was the table breakdown for the dance floor after dinner, but this was executed seamlessly by the incredible Mavericks House team, allowed our guests a chance to take a reset/break, and ended with all of our guests on the dance floor all night. The venue has so many fun pockets of relaxing indoors, outdoors, and on the lawn - everyone was able to mingle, rest, dance and overall have a wonderful time!

You are allowed to order two items at a time during the 90 minute brunch portion. You then have 30 minutes for the dessert items, though the waiter did say we could order more brunch items during that time too. I maxed out during round 5. Round 1: The MARIN COUNTY CHEESE TASTING and the PAN SEARED SCALLOP. There were three types of cheese on the plate with some fig jam and some raisin bread. Everything was super tasty. Loved the fig jam. The scallop was very nicely cooked. Loved the truffle foam. It was supposedly polenta foam but it was very smooth and not grainy at all. Round 2: CAVATELLI and CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES. I think the pasta was my favorite meal of the day. It had a great truffle and parmesan flavor. Soft pasta. Yum. The pancakes were also delicious. Nice and fluffy with melted chocolate chips. I did hold the ricotta cream from it as I know I don't like it. Round 3: LOBSTER ROLL and WAGYU BEEF SLIDER. The lobster roll was tasty but messy. I don't like caviar so I had that held. The slider was very tasty. The sauce on it was a bit too BBQ-sauce flavor for me but overall not a bad bite. Round 4: I did the ORGANIC MAITAKE MUSHROOM and another scallop. The mushrooms were super flavorful. Loved the crispy rice puffs on them. Round 5: I just did on plate - the BELGIAN WAFFLES. I loved the waffles. Crispy outside, soft inside. Warm apples on top and a big dollop of whipped cream. Yum! Dessert: There were carrot cakes, coconut macaroons, strawberry shortcakes and a chocolate pistachio balls. I only add the carrot cake there and took the rest home for later. The staff was very good. Always taking away empty plates and refilling drinks and water. A splurge of a meal but worth it for good food and service.

Hands down, a must experience! Came for a celebration and the Ritz absolutely delivered. We were…read moreseated by the window (per reservation request), which is probably one of the highlights, watching the waves during the course of the meal. At almost $200 pp, we went in wanting to make sure we could order as much as we could during the time limit of the unlimited brunch. However, we didn't have to worry - the service was so fast, that by the end we were well stuffed that the time restraint was moot. Each person can order 2 dishes at a time, and we had the chance to cover everything we wanted to try off the menu and order our favorites multiple times. Some highlights were definitely the scallop and lamb (even as non-lamb lover). The salad also surprisingly stood out, it was really great to eat this paired with the seafood/meats especially towards the end of the meal. I also really enjoyed trying the different caviars, and always love a solid wagyu slider. Only wished they had cornichons to pair with the slider, but appreciate that the staff tried to find pickles for us in the kitchen. The meal ended with a afternoon tea tower of pastries, which we were at that point way too stuffed to take in. The one pastry I tried though, was really delicious, not too sweet. All in all, 10/10 experience. The cherry on top was the complimentary champagne for our celebration! Truly a splendid experience.
