I can't come here and spend less than 30 minutes or $40. It's one of my favorite stores to wander around, but that can definitely get pricey. I've been coming here since the store opened (early 2000s? I can't remember). So glad that they are off to the side of Fashion Valley because sometimes parking can be a nightmare in the mall-- especially dinner time since they are right next to PF Changs, so be sure to avoid it then. I love all things organizing and finding cool gadgets for stuff. On my last trip, I came in for a wreath hook for my door. I ordered online and after waiting months to receive the in stock file box/folders, I tried to return the items. I could not get through to anyone to return it. And there is no information on the order slip, in the box, or online for a return. Buyer beware. They will make it a hassle for you to return your things. The Elfa system that Container Store sells is enough to make it awesome. I never really paid attention to it until my bf convinced me to let him install one and it was great. So simple, so useful, so versatile. Now we think about using Elfas for everything. They aren't really cheap, but I think Container Store has at least one big sale a year where all Elfa stuff is 30% off. (You can also find many of the same components at Home Depot under another brand name for cheaper or comparable prices. The wood shelves are much cheaper at HD). The employees will help you design your space as well. You can even call ahead for an appointment. Anytime I want something to help me get organized, I can find it at Container Store. I went to Container Store to get their elfa closet kit after having custom closet company come in for estimate (and didn't like their heavy unhip style) and checking out what other solutions are out there. I'm glad I did! For about $300 excluding demolition and drywall work done prior to installation, I was able to create my custom closet. I got lucky that I purchased the kit during their annual 30% off sale... what a great timing. Designing process was fun and easy, installation took less than 3 hours by myself. This is the only place you need to go to get organized. I have been trying to clean up and stay organized for a year now and I never quite get there. My life has been a bad infomercial on all the organizational faux pas one can make. Clutter, mess, piles of clutter and mess - me. I have been scavenging organizational items from Target, Marshall's, etc. without really adding any value to my goals of getting clean. Fast forward to my visit to the Container Store - I saw the light. It has so many of the "hard-to-get" specialty items consolidated in one store from adhesive hooks to spice racks and of course containers. The store is conveniently split into sections that correspond to your house, so you have a section for the closet, kitchen, bathroom and office. In each aisle, you will find everything and anything to get you organized. It will have stuff that you did not even know you needed or existed. I suggest going onto their website and looking through their inventory to come up with a list of all the items you need, otherwise you will get sidetracked and buy stuff you do not need, ending up with more clutter (how ironic). The customer service is superb. I went in with my list and a few minutes later, an employee approached me to help me find half of the items on my list and gave me several options for each. When I was checking out, another employee started asking me about my items and offered advice on how to stay organized. Their prices are slightly higher than Target or Marshall's, but still very reasonable. I love this place. We just moved into a place that has a "hall closet" that is abnormally deep with absolutely nothing in it....no rod or anything. We took the dimensions into the Container Store with an idea of what we wanted and they took care of everything. They were so nice and helpful. The man entered the dimensions into his computer and it printed out an exact diagram of what we wanted (from all angles). Like many women, I'm a sucker for organization and this is the place to come to. Since San Diego still doesn't have a Muji store, this is the second best thing for an organizing addict (not that I'm complaining). If you have a good sized makeup collection, come here! They have such a wide array of acrylic organizers to choose from. Acrylic organizers aren't exactly cheap, but they look nice and it allows you to see what you have in your collection. They also sell a terrific acrylic container cleanser that's definitely worth picking up! Apart from my love for acrylic containers, there's also a great selection of office supplies and kitchen items. You also have so many things to make chores so much better like the mesh bags for bras. Another thing that I love is their reward program which I recently discovered thanks to a very persistent employee who talked me into signing up. Thanks to him I have three different coupons in my account ready for me to spend more money in the store. Oh my goodness. This place is more calming than a spa. Seriously, if you're crazy about organization (read: OCD), and want a compartment for everything, then this is your place. Thankfully, this place isn't INSIDE the mall, but just on the outskirts, which prevents you from entering the chaos that is the Fashion Valley parking lot. There's literally something for any type of organizational need here, and usually in various styles and colors. I'm a big fan of their bathroom section, and office sections (if only I had a home office). I would also love to have a custom-designed closet, but as a renter, I don't think they would like me building out my closest. Love the concept of this store. For many years while I lived in San Diego I would drive on the 163S and wonder what a store dedicated to containers would look like. The concept seemed ridiculously specialized and the space oversized. Then one day my boyfriend and I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised. While they offer a unique selection of containers, trash cans, and random home organization solutions (and great Christmas knick knacks) at a price that is well, uummm...pricey (but sometimes affordable), many of their items are cute and unique. I wonder how many potential clients go in to get ideas and then make their purchase off Amazon for a more competitive price (if such items are not a must-have right away) or for choose to go with containers and bins for a much more reasonable price at Costco, Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Marshalls, TJ Maxx or Big Lots, that all offer generic bins that go on sale a few times a year. In the few occassions in which I visited, I've found customer service strange. First, where are the sales assistants? If you do manage to spot one, they are often quite aloof and unfriendly. I like my customer service with a smile, cheery, helpful, and well-sprinkled throughout the store. My instinct is that they really try to target the housewife in her 30s, 40s, and 50s at this store so that they can sell them their ELFA system. Now, the ELFA system, isn't that a wonderful system? The prices are ridiculous, however, they do go on sale about the first quarter of the year. But who can really afford them? What I would really like for TCS to do is advertise more. One of the ways I see the container store improving their business is by pairing up and collaborating with Airbnb property owners, they can give them free stuff to advertise their wares to help them drive up sales. All they would have to do it put QR codes on home organizing solutions and knick knacks that would allow Airbnb guests to scan those codes and order those items online if they see something they like while staying at an Airbnb property. This would also require TCS to improve their site, come on, it's 2017 and your site seems slow and boring. Overall, I would really like to see TCS stay operational for many more years to come, but I think it's going to have to step up its game, otherwise where am I to spend an afternoon browsing tea organization goodies? read more

My husband and I have shopped here for several years. They designed a couple of Elfa closets for us, which, living in an old house with tiny closets, changed our lives for the better. I'm writing this review now because we just had them design a large wall in our house with Elfa, and we had a little bit of a customer service issue (which I won't bother going into). I typed up an email online, through their corporate site, on a Saturday, and got a call from this store the next day. I spoke to Noel, who handled the situation gracefully, and left my husband and me very happy. So thank you Noel, and Container Store, for another positive shopping experience. Overall, the store is organized and clean. My girlfriends that love this store say they can go in and walk around for hours. Items range in price, but you can find great deals. The website is helpful as you can see the accurate prices and the general area in the store to find items, but be prepared to find those items yourself, as you will see in my experience. I had done all my research at home, so that I could measure the spaces I needed containers for and select them online, easily find the containers at the store, and be in and out. I had a list of 8 items, consisting of three different brands of bins, WITH their container store ID number! I walked in and was greeted by a woman that pointed the way to the first type of bin. Having never been to the store, I followed her instructions and found the bins. One style down, three to go! I then look around for another associate because I can't find the next set. The tall gentleman working the floor was on the phone with a customer, so I waited my turn from a distance. When he was finished, I told him I was looking for these bins and noted I had the ID numbers (he had one of those sales guns, so I thought he might be able to help find the exact aisle. Again, I'm told that he "thinks those will be in the kitchen aisle with the three drawer stackers, but just to go and look and have fun." And if he remembers where they are he'll come find me. I told him that I had never been to the store and really just want what's on my list, and he nods and smiles. (I have no idea which way kitchen stuff is!) I say so kitchens are...? and he gestures toward the other side of the store and walks off. He thought he had helped!! I decided to take his advice, and walked up and down the entire kitchen section keeping my eyes peeled for another sales associate to help with no luck. My darling husband waiting in the car as I was sure this will just take a minute because I have a specific list!! No one else is around to help, and when I scour the store to find someone, there's no one! After being in the store for almost 20 minutes, I decided to checkout with my one type of bins, thoroughly unimpressed. I kindly noted to the cashier that the staff was not very helpful even though I had IDs for the items I still needed (5 items, 2 bin types!!!!). She was kind, like the others before her, but completely not helpful, telling me she's sorry that was my experience and that sometimes the floor staff can get over busy--it was 3pm on a Wednesday. The only people there are the meanderers like my girlfriends! She didn't offer to get someone to help me nor was she interested to see the list or helping me (there was no one else in line). The Container Store has tons of containers! ....... I think if they had a Container Store for my life, my life would be a lot more organized. So instead of that, the next best thing is containers for everything that I own or we own, since I do have a better half. When you gather a lot of stuff over the years you need a way to compact it and store it. Yes, you can go to Uhaul/Home Depot/Lowe's and get cardboard boxes to store things, but who wants to be organized with a bunch of BLAH? That's right, this place is packed full of ideas on how to uniquely store your stuff. Fancy we needed to come here today, since I've only been here maybe twice in my life. We are taking down the Christmas tree and sure enough, we wanted to be able to store our ornaments properly and with ease. There's lots of different ways and it could have been super confusing had it not been for a girl that helped us out. Come to find out there are a lot more ways to store ornaments that I originally thought. We walked out of there with a standard 24 gallon container, ornament organizer to put inside, a container for our jasmine rice, two holiday cookie containers(50% off) for next year and a doggy poop bag container(on sale and totally random). We honestly could have been there longer had it not been for the fact we really needed to go grocery shopping. If you are a little bit of a organizer, you may want to stop by for a look see. The staff is really friendly and helped us out. We couldn't find what we were looking for, but we still had a good shopping experience due to friendly employees. Very poor customer service. For a store that will be obsolete within a few years, you would think that customer service would be a priority. Everything in this store can be purchased online for far better prices. A woman in this store treated me as if I was a shoplifter because I had a bag with items that I was planning on returning and did not want to give her my bag as I was shopping. She gave me a dirty look as I politely declined to give her my bag. It was so disgusting, I immediately decided to return my purchases with no exchanges or further purchases. This is my first time to the Container Store, and while there are a ton of things here, there was nobody to help me. There was one person working the register who took forever checking out one person with 5 items. No one was walking around the floor to help me take something off of the high shelf.
