I love this specialty store- wish it came here (hint, hint). Ever since the Organized Living store closed in Las Vegas, no other store quite comes close to filling the void. I suppose I could always go online (with a shipping fee). But when we are in San Diego, I just love coming here- so many unique items like cookie/candy containers- it's where we store the M & M's, different colored gift containers (like takeout chinese boxes), and generally, everything to help get you organized. If you like these things, this is the store for you. Everything is addressed/covered. There is also a unique shelving system called Elfa, which you specify to your needs (measurements, gadgets, etc.). Very nice store for organizing & storing items for any room in the house. I went for the very first time on a Thurs afternoon. It wasn't crowded at all, but it was smaller than I thought. I thought it was going to be like an IKEA of organizational items...which I guess it was, but on a smaller scale. This location's in a good location w/ a nice parking lot out front. I was pleased w/ the types of jewelry holders they had . Their prices are pretty high though even w/ my 15% teacher discount. I bought 4 simple items that totalled about $60. read more

I got lost in the store thinking of all of the possibilities and all of the activities that I could accomplish. I was very happy to see they did have the airtight 50 pound food storage containers for $49.00 ... I will probably be back many times. I am very glad I found the store and their stuff was awesome! Cathy however was the star of the store. She was very knowledgeable with the stores stock as well as helping me accomplish a task that I was conquering today. My only complaint was that the signage directing you to the store was a bit confusing. I have not been to Fashion Valley in over five years so I got a bit lost. Monica the manager was the absolute worst. The cashier who was sweet accidentally returned my product to the wrong credit card after I told her I wanted it on a gift card. She got Monica who had such an such an attitude because I wanted The charges reversed and put on a gift card like I had asked for originally. The cashier should be the manager. I get that it's hard to hire people during Covid but she was so disrespectful. She talked over me as I was trying to explain what happened and would not stop talking. She told me she would help me this one time but not to expect it in the future. Like I spend my day is going to the container store trying to return products and reversed charges. It was ridiculous. OVERPRICED, giving it one star because I was in the Recently I spent about 90 minutes in the store looking at all the products and looking at all the prices on the all of the items up and down every aisle, and I just want to say this place is ridiculously overpriced, it's almost just out of control, I got a really bad feeling about this place because the company/Corporation thinks that people are that stupid to pay those ridiculous prices... it's a huge store with lots of products that are just incredibly overpriced. Purchased an online order and waited WEEKS, NO shipping date was given when it was ordered. Also purchased an order for store pickup for an item IN STOCK, and it was 2 weeks before it was available for pickup! Once I finally received my items, I wrote a fair and honest negative review of the product. It was not accepted because "It didn't meet their guidlines". There was nothing inappropriate, it was simply negative and contained my fact based comments why it didn't meet my needs as expected. I depend on reviews to make purchase decisions, and if TCS cancels poor reviews of products, I can't trust to do business with them. I just moved into the most adorable conveniently located condo ever... it is however... miniscule. I mean tiny. I can barely stuff the BF in here and my shoes?! Don't even get me started. Organization is going to be key to survival here. I needed tubs, I needed containers, I need tiny boxes with individual sections: there was only one place to go! I took my my tape measure and jotted down deets for what I needed to fit where, then tally ho! Off to Mission Valley to the container store. Overwhelming! Expensive! They knew I needed those containers and that once they got an OCD lady like myself in the door they could charge whatever they like... and they do, they do. I find it hard to believe that the mark up here isn't excruciating and inflated. It's plastic, like a ton of plastic. I'm sure it's made overseas and could be sold for much less (a la ikea) then the goo gobs of monies I paid for my purchases. Once I was there and after moving all weekend I couldn't care less, I would have given my first born to be able to walk from my kitchen to the bedroom without tripping over crap-Take it ALLLLLL Container Store!! We recently discovered the Eagle Creek packing system for travel. They're phenomenal. They keep things simple, easy & clothes wrinkle-free. I have heard of this as the top 100 places to work and seen it from the freeway for years and FINALLY went in after realizing that that one table with EVERYTHING hiding under it because it has a tablecloth, seriously needed some organizing! Happy to say that by using the website and ordering and then visiting the store, I ended up getting everything I needed. I had a pretty complex check out where I returned some things I ordered online and bought other stuff I found while in the store and the people made it easy for me. The Container Store is dangerous for a super organized, OCD, container happy, type-A personality person like myself. Everything in my home has a place and being the entertaining queen that I am, all of my entertaining items, crafts and misc items need to be organized so I can safely store and find everything easily and quickly. I may or may not have a spreadsheet to track everything too... = ) I've recently had to reignite the crafty, party planning person in me to prepare for my sisters upcoming baby shower. And lets just say that I went a little crazy with some of the crafts and entertainment supplies that I've purchased for this upcoming event. Of course, once these items were purchased, I needed something to store them in....enter The Container Store. = ) I managed to find the perfect storage boxes to store the items that I plan to reuse again; mason jars, milk jars, chargers, linens etc. I've also found that the Container Store has the best tissues to make large tissue pom poms. They are just the right size and width. FYI - you can make 2 per package with their package of 20 sheets (20" x 30") and they look really full. With each visit here, I've found the service to be fantastic. The associates are usually busy stocking shelves but aren't afraid to ask you if you need assistance with anything. They are super helpful too. Yes, some of the containers are pretty pricey but if it keeps my life organized, I'm thrilled to pieces. As stated in my Quick Tip, the Container Store is a neat freak's wet dream come true. I could spend hours here, that's how much of an organization freak I am. Clutter makes me grumpy and I must admit I can be a bit OCD when it comes to keeping a neat space. Ask anyone I work/live with ;) The customer service is amazing here. No matter how stupid a question you may have (yes, there ARE stupid questions out there people) they will be more than happy to help answer them for you. Their selection is overwhelming albeit fascinating at the same time. I'm sure the way I feel about the Container Store is how my hubby feels about Home Depot or Lowe's. From kitchen to bedroom to office, you will find pretty much anything that you can possibly think of to create a zen living space free of clutter. Usually my go to store for home organization and inexpensive (a.k.a: cheap and disposable) furnuture is Ikea, Walmart or Target. But for my bedroom, I needed something very specific. My regular job and freelance gigs require me to own and somehow effectively contain copious amounts of makeup. Originally I had everything thrown into traincases haphazardly since the only area I had to work with was the bathroom. Yeaaaa...not so ideal when you have to share the same space with a guy with just as many man-scaping necessities of his own. Luckily, my man is very handy and built me a vanity area at our new place which spurred my desire to organize my cosmetics like a madwoman as well as free me from using the bathroom countertop as my face-space. Granted, there are much cheaper alternatives elsewhere for storage but I was looking for something very similar to the "Kardashian Cube" which has been a hot commodity amongst the makeup community that I dwell in. It's a whopping $275 for this massive piece of acrylic with drawers that allows you to house your makeup and then some. It's beautiful. But $275?? No thank you. So instead, I picked up two clear 3-drawer boxes (that's all they had left) and ordered 2 more online to form my very own "Kardashian-inspired- cube" when stacked atop each other. Granted the quality is probably not as good but hey, with the money I'm saving I can buy more makeup if I wanted to. Btw, they are $14.99 each amounting to a total of $60 vs. $275. They are on back order and the rep promised they should be back in stock by mid-March so hopefully they will be shipped to me sooner vs. later. For now, the two I have work beautifully. According to my wife, our car is so cluttered that a farm animal of the porcine variety would love to live in it. It's a pigsty. So today, we headed down to Mission Valley and The Container Store which always brings out my inner obsessive-compulsive-anal-retentive to buy an organizer for the back. Who knew people needed to be so organized? Well obviously The Container Store did because they offer organization solutions for every room of your house, your garage, your car and anywhere else that you can store things. Yes, anywhere. Somehow I have a certain fondness for roaming the aisles of this store looking at all of the kitchen containers, bulletin boards, office supplies and closet organizers. What I am not fond of however is the price of some of these items. $69.95 for an auto organizer? Whaaaa? We bought the cheap one for $9.99 and it does the trick. read more

Here's a tip. If you're in search of standard containers to hold your junk, don't go here since you will pay premium to get things that your are likely to find at the 99 cents store or other discount retailer for dirt cheap. Also, you know those shoe boxes that you throw away? Keep em. YOu can throw all your junk in those boxes. Most of those shoe boxes are pretty much the same size, so you can stack em in your closet and save some money and save the planet. If however, you want to find something specially designed box to hold something important, has unique dimensions or just want to browse the collection of knick-knacks to throw more knick-knacks into it, then you might have a field day there. read more

Amazing. Being the organization freak that I am, this store makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. If you are looking to get your household a bit tidier, or even just simply trying to clean up your closet and create more space they have it all. Workers are extremely friendly, and they have anything from hangers all the way up to custom closet and bookshelf designs. They are located on the east end of fashion valley mall, so parking and getting in and out can be a challenge at some times, but realistically I have never had a issue finding parking out front. *** true story*** I really enjoyed the store, lots of solutions for quite a few needs. I went to pay for my items with cash, and they didn't have any cash in the register so they couldn't give me change for the items that I bought. I stood by for five minutes while the manager had to come up to the register listen to the situation and then go get cash. That's after all the other nearby employees also checked the registers for some cash and none of them had change they could give me. True story. Horrific customer service, will likely not go back. A week ago, my wife and I took advantage of a big sale on some shelving, only to change our minds on a portion of the order the next day (requiring the return of some items, the purchase of additional ones, and some additional back orders). This week, I go to pick up a shipment of some of the back-ordered items, and we discover that the previous weekend's returns were not exactly what they should have been. Mind you, I got there at about 15 minutes before they closed, and even I wasn't quite sure what had happened between our initial consultation and tonight! No problem for the good folks at the Container Store. They dug in, and figured it out, and worked well past closing time to make sure that I had all the products that were on hand, and that I had a clear idea of which items had yet to arrive. One of my favorite place but it is so dangerous because you want to buy everything so you can feel super organize at home and in your life. We actually got our custom closet from here according to my love it was an easy install. We have gone back several times to buy other items when they have a sale of course. This place can get extremely pricey so watch out for your wallet. Customer service is hit or miss here. Sometimes, it's great and other time it's not. I think you have an option to make an appointment online if you are looking for anything custom so I highly recommend that. read more

I had a closet system installed in one closet. Installer excellent, virtual designer, excellent, and love the result. However, the installation date was changed 3 times by installation company that Container Store uses. I did not realize I was dealing with two companies. Once my payment was entered, the store immediately posted The charge- no installer for 2 months. Balancing changes with the inconvenience of emptying closet/guests coming/other commitments was not fun. read more

A friend of mine just reviewed a Container Store in Illinois, and it reminded me that I forgot to review the one in San Diego! I was there just a few days ago, and what I found there has helped me with my home organization tremendously! I was able to get a good deal on some glass jars (for my bulk items), and they have these genius labels (that stay on during dishwashing, etc) that you write on with a sharpie & can erase. I LOVE them. Seriously, a must-have item. I also got a couple of odds & ends that I didn't go there for, but decided I needed. Oh, and a big box for my doggies' toys. It looks great! The staff at this location are very friendly & helpful. I think my husband met his guy-soulmate there, too. He was commenting on the "unbreakable" labels, and how it made him want to try to break things. The guy working there TOTALLY understood & even jumped on an "unbreakable" pitcher to try and break it. Lots of over-priced plastic crap, and most of the goods can be found online for cheaper, but this place has it all local if you must have it now. The elfa stuff is pretty good. Nothing special aesthetically, but it does the trick for closet organization and garage shelving. They have a sale once a year and the place turns into a mob scene. Over closet shelves! One complaint: after paying, they ask for your phone number, kind of matter-of-fact-like. I always politely decline, and the once-friendly register small-talk ceases like I've offended them. Their closet organizer system has the Elfa and Elfa decor styles (the decor one has wood facias which actually makes a big difference to the look). In Jan/Feb, they have the 30% off sale so wait for it and if you're too late just live like a slob for a bit.. its ok. The decor wood pieces are relatively expensive and for some reason the clothes don't hang by themselves even after spending all this money. haha p.s. Make sure you measure your closet really well and describe it to the designers down to the little elves that come out at night to shine your shoes. read more

We have only had our Elfa closet system for two weeks but it's already changed our lives -- for the better! I can't say enough positive things about The Container Store and our experience with its employees. In April 2011, we ventured into the San Diego store (at Fashion Valley) to check out shelving options. We were in the early stages of researching closet organization options after finally calling it quits with our sadly overstuffed master bedroom closet. Kandace, an employee in the Elfa section, immediately struck up a conversation with us and invited us to attend a demonstration/tour of Elfa that day. We joined in and were intrigued right away. We knew that this could definitely be an option for us, but still had a long list of questions. After the demo, Kandace spent well over an hour with us laying out our dream closet in the Elfa software and helping us come up with fantastic solutions for our unique setup. It was definitely a bit more than we had originally budgeted for our closet redo, but after doing some comparison shopping we decided it was the best option out there. California Closets has comparable quality, but they don't offer as wide a variety in color/shelving options, and all their pieces are permanent. I've loved being able to move different pieces around when necessary (such as for vacuuming or having carpets replaced, or just changing up the design a bit). I looked at California Closets, Closet World, and another local company but ultimately was not as impressed as with Elfa and The Container Store. The prices may have been cheaper elsewhere, but we would definitely be compromising on customization and quality -- two items that were very important. So I took the plunge! Kandace and Tiger were both an immense help when we went back to the store to place our order. Kandace spent a long time helping us tweak our original design to better suit our needs and measurements. I'm not ashamed to admit I carried around the mockup printout for a week in my purse and looked at it every day -- and showed it to just about everyone I know! Jim did our install and was amazing! He called days in advance to get information about our setup (stairs, demo needed, etc.) and showed up in the predetermined time frame, working quickly and efficiently. It's amazing how much more our closet can hold now that it's organized so well. I wasn't sure at first but we even have a couple empty shelves and extra space -- that's definitely never happened before. Additionally, as fate would have it a friend gave me a Container Store coupon for 20% off Elfa and installation just a week after we placed our order (but prior to installation). I didn't even know these coupons existed! I figured -- what the heck -- and took it in to the store to see if they'd honor it even though we'd already paid for the materials (but not installation). And they did! Not sure they would have if we'd already had the install done, but they didn't even blink at it. I might have done a little dance. This definitely made it the best deal possible of any closet system we'd looked at. Find one of these coupons if you can! We saved hundreds of dollars with it! Another tip: The only time all Elfa systems go on sale is in December (I didn't want to wait that long). Freestanding systems were on sale in April, but not the wall-installed ones. We are sold and Elfa fans for life. Every single employee we encountered (be it over phone or in the store) was cheerful, smiling, helpful, and happy to answer our many questions. We've gone back in for a few extras (shoeboxes, hangers, etc.) to finish off our closet and have the same positive experience each time.
