My cry for a drink to escape the family was more than answered at the Continental last night. I think in total we had close to 18.. who knows.. i lost count after drunk. I've been coming to the Continental for close to a decade now.. when I lived in Fullerton it was a staple. I can't stand Heroes, I can't stand The Rockin' [Taco] Hallway, for the most part, I can't stand OC nightlife. The Continental is the bastian of loungy cool. God bless it. The Continental is definitely coming up, too. Last night I was informed that you can no longer just grab a table. You have to have bottle service to keep one. It's understandable.. the booths are big and can fit at least 8 comfortably, and a lot of times you'd see groups of two taking up all that real estate. Table service starts with a bottle for $150. Get enough heads in one and it's a great deal. We had the private room.. a first for me. At $250 that still turned out to be a great deal. I love this place, and the fact that it was Wednesday and Elvis night only perpetuated our good time. I, as usual, was very drunk but I had a blasty((tm)), made some new friends, created a few new crushes, and got a chance to hang with some of the coolest Yelpers that Yelp has to offer. It's been a great O seven holiday and the dark, oaky, velvety goodness that is The Continental made it even that much better. To another successful 50 years, Continental; we love ya! Using subtle figurative language, I will now parallel the continental room with the early 00's British pop trio BB Mak. Both harmonize fairly well and perform for a captive, yet easily definable (albeit disposable) audience: a select clientele outfitted in leather jackets and/or blazers, neat hair styles and fancy shoes. Both equally function within a "vision of grandeur" vein that may just come back to bite them in the ass one day. While addressing such a crowd, they become stereotypical, archaic entities; Both will gladly thin your paycheck while serving inferior talent, beverages (I am not sure how this applies to the mak...perhaps crazy groupie gatherings) and a pseudo-comfortable, mind-numbing atmosphere. Okay, I really don't get the parallel either...I guess I just don't like this place very much. "Back Here" was a killer song though. Them boys could sing. read more

The first time I came here (for Dave S.'s bday) I was instantly jealous that Fullerton had such a cool spot and not the Westside. We had a big group and were taken care of by our cocktail server (hell she even kicked people out of a booth so we could take over). The second time around it was a smaller group and not as comfortable since we couldn't sit down. If I were on the prowl, it wouldn't be so bad, but I just want to chill with friends and drink. I still like the place cause there's no cover, not really a dress code (I walked in with shorts and slippers on), the drinks are hella cheap and the live music has been good both times. Located in the Soco District of Downtown Fullerton, The Continental Room was the perfect spot for a great night out with friends! This was my first time here; I came on a Saturday night for a birthday party. We hung out in the back room, which is an awesome back patio area with plush sofa seating. It's away from the main area which was perfect for us, because our crowd was so big; we totally took over that back room! This is a smaller venue, so the place gets packed quickly once the night gets started!! The venue itself has a lot of cool history to it! I love history; the building design and deco have their own story. It opened in 1925, and is known as the oldest drinking establishment in the city! It really has that 60's lounge feel, and I enjoyed the dimly lit, plush velvety red and dark wood colors. They have a small stage where the DJ performs and great portraits of stars like Elvis and James Dean hanging on the walls. No Cover to get in which is nice and the DJ was awesome! The cocktail waitresses were very friendly and attentive. The bartenders also rocked, giving my friend a free drink for her birthday, which was totally awesome! Great place for lounging and dancing (although the dance floor gets pretty crowded.) We partied in that back room, which was perfect for me, because I was just happy having a good time with my close friends. The crowd was diverse, from 60's themed rockabilly to caps and t-shirts. Each night offers something different. I would really like to checkout Elvis night here, it seems like that would be totally cool! WATCH OUT THE BOUNCERS WILL HIT YOU!! I was walking by around 1:45am and noticed the bouncers talking to a few people, out of no where the bouncer actually SWINGS and hits this guy! I have no clue what the scenario was but someone working for a company should never lay hands on a customer and this is what I saw FIRST HAND! 15 min later another fight broke out! Literally about 10 min apart this one was probably just about 10 feet away from the original one, this time there was about 6 people involved in the fight! With people kicking and stomping eachother out...it was sad sight... If your trying to NOT get hit by a continental room employee I best recommend to go elsewhere...as this, IS NOT A SAFE PLACE to spend your weekend unless you want to get physically hit by one of their "bouncers" This is very disappointing in in the continental rooms staff about how unprofessional they are, I will NEVER recommend this place to anybody unless they put a big change on their employee staff Nobody wants to go to a place where they have extremely rude employees that pay no respect to you In short, to save everyone some trouble, steer away from this place on your night out, it's not worth the disrespect they give you. read more

Depending on the night you go the music, the crowd, and the vibe can accommodate which ever one of your personalities is currently present. The first time I went (Wednesday), it was Elvis impersonator night. You bet your little tight ass in that rhinestone jumpsuit, my white-middle aged-beehive hair -hawaiian shirt wearing personality was in full bloom. I was screaming like a teenager in the 50s to the "king!" I was so excited I didn't realize someone bumped into me, which made me bump into someone, which made them drop their glass. But who cares!! It's ELVIS!! Yeeeeeoooowwwwww~~~ We got the tiny room (bottle service - shout out to DS!), which looks like a telephone booth, and packed... ohhh... 30 people in there? OK, not 30... maybe 15? Either way, it was cramped, possibly due to my big butt, but it was fun~ The second time I went (Monday), it was electro-hiphop-funk or something night. Can you guess which personality made its appearance? Wrong! It was my rare-mellow-who cares I'm in my work clothes-I just wanna hear good music-silly-because I haven't had enough sleep personality. Yeah, that caught me by surprise too. The DJ's in the beginning sounded like amateurs or they must've been f*ckin around because the transitions made me stop mid-sentence and look into the distance *like a deer that senses danger* .... wait for them to quit that shit... then resumed my conversation with my friends. Note: When you walk in, the stench of eau de "toilet" will sock you in the face and make you cross-eyed. It's weird because the bathroom is all the way in the back. And when you walk to the bathroom, it actually smells nice. So it turns out... you want to get away from the bathroom smell by... going into the bathroom *scratching temple* (-_-)??? Drinks are decent and averagely priced. The decor is reminiscent of an old smoking parlor with red lights, wood railings, and pleather booths. There is a small stage, where the night's entertainment is held and a tiny dance floor. There is always yellow caution (or construction) tape in the back. I didn't ask why. The staff is friendly and the doormen are cool. Definitely my new go to spot on Mondays (aka the new Fridays) for my ADD personality. read more

The Continental Room is a great place to go if you don't want to be seen. It is always very dark inside so if you are looking for a place to hook up and don't want to know what the troll you are taking home looks like, I suggest you come here. The girls that frequent this place are more of the tattooed, rocker types... not really my style. The bartenders are great, especially Dan. He always takes care of us with strong drinks and is super friendly. They always have some live DJ or live band, but they are very hit or miss. DJ Whitey White is not bad, I just wish he would stop the stupid "DJ WHITEY WHITE" call out through the speakers in the middle of everyone of his songs. Nobody really cares that you are DJ WHITEY WHITE, just play some damn music. The best part of the Continental Room is the secret VIP room. It is on your left right when you walk in and you would pass right by it if you weren't looking for it. We rented out this room one time ($200 minimum for a Saturday, not bad) and it was amazing. It is so secluded that my friend managed to get a happy ending without anyone knowing. This is the worst bar i have ever been to, the service was horrible. They don't know how to mix drinks and the bartender kept my friend's money without even asking. The security need to sit their asses down and stop hoovering over people who actually trying to dance and they need to stop pushing people around. Get a bigger dance floor, fix your restrooms cause they are nasty and clean your tables and floors. There was water all over the floor and they step on your shoes. I think this is the place you have to go to if you're drunk and rearin' to dance. Otherwise, stay away. It's crowded on the inside, rather dark, and oh so loud. They played a lot of EDM type music here when I went on a Saturday night around 1am. We had to wait in line since it's a small and crowded kind of venue. But overall, I didn't mind it too much since the bouncer was really nice, smart, and didn't put up with no girls' bullshi* trying to cut the line. Mad respect right there. If you're down with the crowds, then you'll be happy to come here. It just wasn't my kind of scene, to be honest. But my friend did order an AMF from there and boy, was that pretty dang strong, even for me. I could feel it kickin' in while we were leaving. WHOA! read more

It's a good bar. Free parking across the street. There's a small mini dance floor towards the back. Drinks are decent pricing. Two cocktails came out to be $16. There's a pretty good crowd on a Saturday night. I would have given this 4 stars, but there was a stabbing there that very day that I went. Luckily, I left an hour before it happened, so I wasn't part of it. However, it's still pretty scary to think about. They should increase their security when letting people in. This review is for the Continental Room on Friday and Saturday nights, as the place will likely be much different on other days of the week. The Continental Room is tiny, with several booths along one wall and a long bar on the other. There's a stage at the far back where a DJ plays to an insanely crowded dance floor. Security constantly moves people along, which while necessary makes it very difficult to dance without having to stop and move to make way for those trying to get to the bathroom. Just not a great setup for a dance floor. Drinks are moderately priced, and the service is good. However, if you're looking for a fun place to dance, you're better off elsewhere, as at this place you will 100% be covered in other people's sweat and spilled drinks by the end of the night. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! Manny, the bald, brown, bartender, who also looks like Reggie Watts greeted my sister and I promptly and with a smile. We immediately felt welcome and at ease. Coming from a customer service/hospitality backround we can be very tough critics, which is rightly so. We expect stellar service because that's what we give right? Not only did Manny exceed our expectations, he is a very skilled mixologists . We tried organic vodka and tequilla for the 1st time, which was very cool! If you want a modern, new and simple bar.. this is not the place for you. GO TO Dave and Buster's or something. The Continental Room, AKA The Conti, AKA Oldest drinking establishment in the city is the first place I take my friends if they've never been to Downtown Fullerton. This place epitomizes the night culture that lacks in most of Orange County. I'm not going to describe this place.. you can scroll to other reviews for that. I will however, will outline three important things... History: Check! This place originally opened in 1925 and was a pool hall / speakeasy at one point. One thing you might not know, one particular booth was purchased from an old Italian restaurant in LA and used to be Tommy Lasorda's personal booth. This is true. Good music: Check! Visit their website or facebook page to see who's playing that week. They have DJs but it's really the live music nights that I love checking out. I had a chance to check out a Beatles cover band here this week.. and they effen rocked! Drinks+Cocktails: Double Check! Stiffest drinks in DTF. No joke. And cheapest too. One night, I had 4 Jameson + Gingers here. So good. Heads up if you're a beer drinker.. no drafts here. All bottles. Side note..They don't serve food here. But who comes here to eat? The live band on the weekends is interesting. It gives it a different twist compared to the other places around downtown Fullerton. It looks like you've stepped back into the 50's with the vinyl booths and red velvet decorations scattered around. The drinks are cheap and not watered down, yay! I usually stick around my hood, but this particular Friday night I ventured out to the always crowded and anticipatingly drunken debauchery that is downtown fullerton. Or as the kids say "DTF." Since I hit my 30s, I've definitely become a fan of lounges and dive bars. I realized every time I go to a club, I always say to myself "i'm too old for this shit." So I know my place. . . I don't do trendy clubs and I'm not yet a total wine-o, so what do I look for: cool, dark, chill lounges that serve a stiff drink. Suffice to say, the Continental Room satisfies my short list of requirements. We ventured about 9:30 to fullerton and found a parking spot instantly, bing! We walked into a fairly empty Continental Room that had a mixed crowd of people who just got off work and those doing a pre-party before a big night out. We grabbed a booth near the stage and were pleasantly greeted by a server quick to take our drinks, bing! I heard they served a mean martini here so I tried a mango chambord libation that was a perfect start to the night. It was a bit too sugary for my liking, but nothing a few beers can't cut the taste of. The atmosphere is exactly what everyone says, which is perfect, bing! But the most pleasant surprise was the music. The dj played everything that we grew up on, hip hop from the late 80s throughout the 90s. Not the pop music stuff, but the good old meaningful hip-hop that today's music has sadly lost. We heard epmd, dj quick, tribe called quest, common, and many many others, bing, bing, bing! Cool but casual place to hang out on weekend evenings, but prepare to sweat from all the bodies crammed into this place! DJs are spinning good music, but your space to dance is VERY limited. Mostly likely to happen here: a) get a drink spilled on you b) get your toes stepped on c) spill your drink somewhere, possibly on someone d) push or get pushed by a guy or girl who is also trying to enjoy themselves e) get grazed by some girl (or girls') sweaty back Drinks aren't to pricey, but with such a long bar and busy crowd, you can find yourself waiting for a drink. Bartenders are as quick as they can be with all the customers howling at them for service, so they may seem curt when serving your drink. I think they do a good job - just tip them already. You will also find yourself waiting in line for up to an hour, since Continental Room tends to reach capacity quickly on Friday-Saturday nights. At least there is no cover charge to get in, hooray! There's a smoking indoor/outdoor patio with some seating out back, if you choose get some polluted air for your lungs, hair and clothes. Mixed crowd and definitely not a pretentious place. Also, free and plenty of parking in the structure right across the street. And this is a bar only, so don't ask for a food menu. read more

I love the Continental Room. I remember the first time I came here back in college; the red lights, leather booths, stage with a red velvet curtain...this place was unlike anything else in OC and a true historical landmark. My friends and I used to frequent the Continental Room while in college and although I still love this place, the last few times I have been there were on the weekends and it was a little too crowded for me. I prefer off nights during the week when it is mostly locals. The whole retro/60's/beatnik vibe is what I love about this place. It is the type of bar that makes you want to have a REAL drink. I like this place! No cover, current music, and the girls are all right looking here. It's kind of small so come early. You can dance, get drunk, or hang out in one of those cool booths with your buddies. There are some busted girls here who think they're too good to dance with you. Lady, you don't even speak English, check yourself. Otherwise it's all good fun. The waitresses are nice, we were recommended a Washington Apple which tasted all right. Drinks are like $9 each so... come drunk. That was probably my biggest gripe. There is a separate room, not quite outside, where people smoke and smoking's bad. I didn't expect to find such a grown up place in Disneyland. I really try not try to venture out to Fullerton any day of the week, but a friend from Vegas, who I first met in Jersey, was in town. We hung out the previous night at Crocker in LA, so this was definitely a change in moods. I was really surprised with the decor, but I detected a weird odor hovering around our booth. It kind of smelled like a urinal, but our booth was 3 away from the entrance. It definitely put a weird vibe on the night, only because I couldn't figure out why it smelled so strangely. I was here with my cousin also, who happened to make a buddy at the bar. She ended up being pretty cool and funny. The entertainment for the night was none other than Aceyalone. He killed it of course. I couldn't believe he was playing at Continental. There's a little smoking hallway in the back, for those that need to indulge. And yes, it is a hallway but there isn't a roof so I guess it can be called a walkway? I was also surprised with the drink prices. Since I'm a man, I don't fiddle with mixed drinks. At such an establishment it's either Crown Royal or Chivas Regal on the rocks. But the bartenders poured heavy here, which called for me to tip heavy. Such a transaction is never a problem for me. Would I come back here again? I don't know. That would mean I would have to go to Fullerton. I think if I were to be abducted and taken here, I would have a good time. I mean I guess this place is cool..if you're a vampire and like to hang out a lair with your kind. That's the vibe I get at least. It's very dark and looks sort of like a scene from Nancy Drew in an old abandoned theatre. Lol. But other than that I guess it's ok, just nothing special. OH. This used to be my favorite bar. Key word USED to be. I was always ready to forgive some of the sub-par DJ's, over capacity dance floors and the usually dirty restrooms, but not anymore. Seeing that our waitress repeatedly forgot our drinks and charged us for bottled water without informing us she intended to do so, 1 of the 3 paying guests at our table decided not to tip the waitress. 2 of us then decided to tip her a small amount. Upon seeing this our waitress yelled at us about not tipping her enough. At least she tried to yell, we told her it was too loud and we couldn't hear but she continued to wail away with no one understanding her. She then complained to one of the bouncers who immediately told us to leave the building, which was fine by us since it was closing time anyway. But our woes did not end there. The following day lo and behold, the bill of one of our party members, the one who decided not to tip, suddenly went from $76 to $91, even though the receipt had been signed, and a line drawn through the tip line. Upon seeing this, i checked my account to see that my bill which had been $55.50 including tip the previous night was suddenly $60.50. We are still waiting to see if our third party member has been fraudulently charged. Some things are forgivable, cussing at customers, throwing the receipts in their face and then adding at least $20 in tips to the bill is inexcusable. So long Continental Room, you have lost any and all further business from me, and I will be getting all the money that you have taken from us back. read more

I will go ahead and start off with what I didn't like. Although the the bartenders were very charming in their vests and bow ties, the one on this particular night was pretty slow. We also had to put up with Miss Titty City as our waitress with an attitude the size of her implants. We also go moved from our booth with a great view of The King to a booth way in the back because the owner and his friends showed up. LAME! Ok, with that out of the way, overall I had a great time. I kind of felt like I stepped into the red room from Twin Peaks minus the checkered floor and he midget talking backwards. Elvis was great! They have a service button at the booth not unlike the buttons on airplanes that call your stewardess. The carpeted floor kind of through me off, but in a good way. The smoking area is just a long green hallway, I dig it! If you're ever in the area, check it out. It's pretty swanky! read more

Stopped by with a few of my friends on a crowded Friday night. Great music, great friends, great decor....should have been a recipe for a great time. However, there was one waittress who may have been having a bad day but she was consistently mean and curt with us the whole evening. Maybe she was having an off day but if you are working at a bar, you might either want to change your attitude before you come in or just call in for your shift. Drinks are strong and affordable. Take stroll down Santa Fe Avenue on a midsummer night to Orange County's oldest drinking establishment. The Continental Room is hidden on a side street away from the loud obnoxious downtown Fullerton bars. The 1960s type lounge offers an array of nightly entertainment and live music where you can enjoy a cocktail on a more intimate level. The Continental can be easily spotted from the street with the vibrant canary yellow paint, rich burgundy awning and the lighted arrow neatly placed above the entrance. Once inside the décor is warm and inviting. The walls are plastered in a crimson patterned tapestry and perfectly adorned with dim candle type lighting providing just enough light to make out the figures sitting on the half moon shaped booths cushioned with red leather seats. Directly across is an "L" shaped bar the length of half of the venue lined with bar stools and fully stocked with a mixture of colorful bottles. The carpet is reminiscent of an old Vegas casino and there is an antique cigarette vending machine giving the whole place a cabaret feel. Towards the back of the room there is a stage with red velvety drapes hanging in the background in a very theatrical way. There is a wooden piano, the kind that would be played in western saloons. On this particular night there is deejay spinning northern soul and funk on stage surrounded by a mixed crowd in their young twenties showing off their fancy footwork. The patio set off with a pool table in the center has a pungent tobacco fragrance. The continental room's vintage décor and classy atmosphere transports anyone to a time where bar hopping was a lot more than downing a quick shot and more about savoring a good martini with old friends. read more

This is my favorite spot in all of Downtown Fullerton. There's never a cover to get in, the crowd is really really chill and down to earth, the atmosphere is extremely mellow, and the drinks aren't bad! I love that there are booths to sit in if you don't feel like standing or dancing. I love that there's a dance floor to dance, so it's not just a boring old bar. I love that they have a stage for musical performances or for the DJ to spin. The music is great. Especially on Thursdays. The crowd is diverse and I love that. It's not the same group of people every week. The bouncers are really cool and the bartenders are really friendly. I always have a great time here! Drinks are good and the bartenders are very generous with the amount of alcohol they pour you. I definitely get my money's worth. I came here on a Wednesday night and an amazing band was playing. The four of them dressed up like the Beatles (suit and tie) and sang all Beatles songs! The band's name was "A Hard's Day Night". Super fitting if you ask me ;) it was really fun to just dance to their music and it wasn't even a crowded sweat fest. WOW. I was 21 years and 1 day old and I found myself here, giddy like the little tard that I am. It's dark, railroad style, really mixed crowd, but all I cared about was sitting at the mahogany bar and gettin my drink on. The bartender (whose name I regretfully cannot remember...well, understandably so) was this older, balding dude dressed like an old 1930s style bartender. When he asked what I wanted, instead of acting like I knew what drinks existed I told him straight out that I just turned 21 and was there to explore everything on the shelf. He was awesome. Gave me one cocktail after another, teaching me what's what, how you can mix it up, try this one with a lemon twist, now try this with an orange twist you'd like it...etc. Let's just say I fucked up my cerebellum that night and did the whole zig zag walk out for the first time. read more

Stumbled here on a Saturday night while trying to prove to my little brother that I'm still cool, can handle my liquor, and can stay up past midnight. I'm proud to say that I was able to make it past midnight!! I'm not really sure about the other two things though... There was no line and no cover which was just dandy. From what I remember it was pretty crowded and in my drunken blur I also remember red leather couches. That's pretty much the extent of my memory. My only reason for hanging out in Downtown Fullerton. You have to get here at a reasonable time, i.e. before 10pm, to mozy your way toward a seat at the bar. Don't even bother waiting on a booth if you and your posse haven't been stalking one since 7-8pm. I love this place for a number of reasons; one, the music is completely geared toward my age demographic. At more than one point I would turn to my bestie and me like "OMG! AWESOOOOME!!!" because a song would come on that we hadn't heard since junior high dances. Sure they pop in a Top 40 every now and then, but generally speaking the music here rox my sox off. $8 Ketel One tonics, which seems about average. The pour definitely gets stronger as the night wears on. If you're lucky enough to be seated at the bar, be prepared for people to weasel their way through you to order at the bar. The bartender is quick and equitable -- meaning, you're gonna have to wait for his rotation. SO STOP PUSHING ME, BITCH! Anyway, the back "alley" of this joint used to be soooo ghetto. Darkly lit, with an 'open' ceiling for smoking, and just a concrete floor with some random standing areas. But now they actually dolled it up and it looks great with the rest of the old school decor. The bathroom is small, relatively clean, and actually pretty cute. Chance your trip when a big group of little girls aren't all pouring in there at once. I absolutely adore the Continental Room. It still feels like a 'grown up' bar to me as opposed to the bumpin-n-grindin warehouses around the corner. Yes it does get crowded, and sure it can be considered loud, but I love coming here with my crew and just chillin. read more

Yes, finally, this is the place I came once and couldn't remember the name or where it even was (go figure). But now that I realize it was at DTF, I can officially say it's the best place in DTF. There's no other place in DTF I'd rather go because everything else is trying too hard and they somehow still are foolin people because those fools have no taste.
