Drinks are good here, and pretty strong. What one reviewer said to go to the bar and order the drinks there is true. The drinks at the bar are much stronger than the ones where you get sitting down. While the atmosphere of this swanky bar can't be beat, the prices make up for whatever love was left for this place. The drinks are not impossibly expensive, but I'm not sure I can jump on board with a place that sets $150 minimums on the weekend, nor would I go to downtown Fullerton for a place with a dress code. I love the place, I love the bartenders, I love the music, I haven't really liked the crowd too much when I've gone. The place has a fantastic vintage vibe. Lots of red lighting, plush booths, damask-print flocked wallpaper, cool light fixtures like the Haunted Mansion or something, and a great low stage with a red velvet curtain. I imagine awesome-looking strippers dancing on that stage in the 50s or something. The bartenders are super friendly. The first time I went there, I was the designated driver, so my friends all ordered cocktails and I ordered water. The bartender actually took the time to pour my water into a shaker with ice and lemon, and shook me up an ice cold lemony water. Who does that?! It was the best water I've ever had haha. DJ Bobby Soul is usually the guy in charge of music when I go and I LOVE his mix of 60s-70s soul and boogaloo. What I said about the people... well, I kinda like my personal space to not be invaded, and I swear every time I go there someone is all up on me, even if it's not that crowded. I will give them "the look" that says "please stop touching me" and they will give me the "oh shit I think I'm annoying that girl by touching her" look, but they won't stop. Cuz they're drunk, fumbling messes. The last time I was there, I saw a girl have to get carried out by her friends because she was so sloshed. What can I say about Downtown Fullerton, or SoCo which it's now commonly referred to, shudders. It's a little piece of hell right in my backyard?That would be very close to accurate. The Continental Room is the only reason I venture down there, and it's only if my friends are involved. Got the private room for a friends birthday once, which was fun, but costs about 200 smack-er-oos. It's kind of cool that it's not like the other bars around there, the booths are nice, low lights etc. But you still have to take into account, people from the other bars are around there and will come in. The drinks are standard price, 7 or 8 for a martini. But it tends to get packed in there and it always amazes me how loud it gets, forget about trying to talk to anyone, but I guess people don't go there for that anyway. One of the upsides is that the waitresses all look like porn stars which is pretty awesome in my book. read more

Daang Fullerton! You know how to paaaar-tay. I'm embarrassed to admit that for all the years I've lived near Fullerton, I never knew what a night scene it had to offer. I came here after a show at the Commonwealth Lounge (which is also great) and had a blast. Yes, the red lights are awesome. It makes you feel like you're in an Italian mobster movie (without Joe Pesci coming for you). I love that it doesn't have the greasy sleaze vibe most lounges have - people just want to have a good time. The BEST part of this place is open area outside with LCD monitors showing what's going back inside, particularly on the dance floor. These monitors have no mercy as EVERYONE looks ridiculous and freaky (the screens are on night vision mode or something so everyone has white eyes). Watching an unknowing guy drunkenly go after a girl on the dance floor in night vision is priceless. Oh yes! And the music! It's good too. The band playing was easy on the ears and not a disgrace to himself or the bar. I hear they have a badass Elvis impersonator on Wednesday so I'll be back for him. Well done, Conti Room! read more

My fave bar in Fullerton. Ken is probably the best bartender you could possibly have. I celebrated my brithday there and he gave me every drink he could possibly make...on the house. It does help if you go there regularly, he will hook it up. The place does get crowded because alot of groups go. The drinks are priced well. I got a booth for my birthday and there was 10+ of us so we decided to get a booth. It's a minimum of $250 dollars to sit there. We all had drinks all night and we barely met the 250 with over 10 of us!! The people are cool, had one problem with a douchebag but security took care of it quick. The music is great too. My first time here was on a monday....not the craziest experience but still decent. The night to go here, really is FRIDAY. The reason why? 90s hiphop/r&b on vinyl..... Dark and broody like a sorrowful jazz spot, this place has these great, low tables set in half-circle high-backed booths. There are different nights with great eclectic entertainment--the night my wife and I visited last their were dual Elvis impersonators. Still totally amazed that my quiet bedroom community of a hometown now boasts a billion bars. When I was in college we had two choices, Pete & Tony's sports bar or Heroes. That is unless you wanted to brave the marinated locals at Miki's. Yikes! Anyway, whenever go back to the Big F, I like to hit the Continental. It's definitely one of the coolest places in town. Being over 30, my friends and I are probably the oldest people there unless you count a couple cougars and some creepy dudes with gold chains. Still since we're "old" we don't mind risking looking dorky and coming in early. Arrive by 7pm and claim a coveted booth. Plus with age comes a tolerance for alcohol that lets you pace your drinking so you can do it for hours on end. Practice makes perfect. So by the time the entertainment starts, we're thoroughly ready to enjoy the music and have totally forgotten that we aren't 25 and don't know that you're not looking at us because we're effing hot but because my friend forgot to take off a name tag from a parents' meeting. The Conti is like that ex you just can't quit. I like this place a lot. It's small, swanky and hip. It's a good venue for bands and DJs. The dim red lighting and red drapes that hide the stage are some of the attractions and trademarks of Fullerton's oldest pub. It's been around longer than your mom has, peeps. The mix of people is good. You don't see many bros and hos here. That action stays at the Slidebar fortunately. I've always had good times here, except the one time a fight broke out when I was trying to watch Upstart play. I got elbowed in the head trying to break it up... ANd then I swear someone donkey punched me. In any case I wasn't kicked out. They are known for their martini making skills. The variety of their martini's is as long as John Holmes' wanker, so be sure to sample a few items. The waitresses are all very pretty, at least that's what I remember. I've been slapped by one (but I liked it) and went on a date with another... In general, though, everyone I've dealt with there are all very cool. read more

I don't drink...at all, so if you're looking for a review of the beverages, stop reading right now. That's the main reason I'm not giving it five stars. First plus...it's within biking distance of the house a quick trip down Wilshire and short jaunt down Highland. Second plus...the music. Friday night they were playing GOOD hip hop and Sunday some absolutely fantastic soul music. An excellent departure from the stuff we heard coming from the other bars on our way down. Third, a much lower level of douchebaggery than I have seen at a lot of other places in town, and, since I do my socializing early, there was plenty of elbow room when we were there. The bartender was more than happy to hook me up cranberry juice and didn't laugh when my sober ass ordered a shirley temple. I'm a cheap date. read more

Once upon a time this was my favorite bar. And sometimes, when I'm drunk enough and have cash, it still is. But once upon a time I opened up a tab and I forgot to close it because I was literally being pushed out of the door by security at last call. I came back the next day fearing that they would overcharge me as punishment for being a forgetful drunk. Worse. They LOST my card. They couldn't find it anywhere and called various bar staff to locate my card. I tried speaking to the manager, but he refused to speak with me, instead just whispering to the bartender and then retreating to the back room. How rude. I was pissed, but the day bartender was this cute older man with an East Coast accent and I couldn't bear to yell at him. I left after politely thanking him and giving him my number should anything turn up. I cancelled my card and went home. Right when I got home I got a call from the bartender saying that he found my card "behind some stuff". UGH. read more

Seriously, Continental Room is one of those hidden gems of the Downtown Fullerton area. GREAT music, good drinks, and a great patio area with SEATING! This is especially important for girls because we wear heels...heels for the most part are NOT comfortable! BLAH! But we wear them to please the eyes of the opposite sex...yeah you know you like a girl in some nice high heels! This place is always a great place to go to to unwind, dance a little to great Hip Hop jams, and to drink after a stressful day/week! I always recommend this place when people want to go to Downtown Fullerton. It's a must visit kinda place...if you like old school/new school hip hop! If you're into broody, dark, red light district, swanky type speakeasies or lounges, you'll definitely fall in love with this place. I know I did. Hands down, my favorite lounge/bar in the Fullerton SoCo District. Friendly male bartenders (although I did notice that they recently acquired a sexy female bartendress ha ha) and live music or good DJs. The drink prices are decent considering the bartenders have a heavy pour (and no, I'm not complaining). Best bet is to go there during the weeknights. The weekend nights are usually as jam packed as any other surrounding bars, and Thursday has really gotten very crowded as well. I suggest the 2nd Wednesday of every month for Beatles Night and the 3rd Wednesday of every month for Elvis night. Otherwise, you're pretty much stuck with a local band (which is usually a hit or miss) or a lot of dub step and electro music spun on the 1's and 2's. Also, the martinis here are off the chain. Came to the Continental for the first time last Thursday. My friends kept telling me to come down because they've all been waiting for me to turn 21 since I was 17, which I finally did this year! The place is pretty small, not much room to walk around. 1 pool table towards the back and a small skinny smoking section. Dance floor is pretty small as well. The place is pretty dimly lit with all red lights. Drinks were pretty cheap, and pretty strong too. Not sure if it was because the bartender hooked it up because he knew my friend who was on a first name basis with all bartenders. One of Orange County's gems, in my opinion. Nestled at the start of Downtown Fullterton, you'd almost miss this place if you didn't know where you were going. The place is a total blast from the past Rat Pack era, right down to the little crystal button you press in your booth for service. Classy. It's an intimate space (read: small) with booths to one side and a nice long bar on the other. Out back is a covered smoking hallway with shelves for your drink and ashtray, and even the lighting continues to the red, swanky atmosphere as well as the door to get you onto the super classy stage they have in the corner... ...did I mention that Monday nights is karaoke night? Selection is decent, got a lot of the classics (which is a must) but newer things aren't as current (which I don't mind at all). It's also right next to a Mexican Restaurant, which is always a plus if you're a bit hungry. It can get a little crowded, but that just means the place is cool. But I've noticed an increasing amount of hipsters has locked into the place aside from the the causal old chap fixin' for a stiff drink and Cal State Fullerton students...either way, I'm still coming back to this place. read more

Hands down - favorite bar in Orange County. Never had to wait in line and this place is swank. That's as much as I can say. I've seen indie kids here, I've seen 40 year olds here (one kissed my friend on the cheek - pure drunkeness at his best) and it all seems to work. I recommend sitting at the bar and getting your drinks from the bartender. You can even tell them what you like and they'll come up with something - and they won't have a typical bartender jerk attitude. Mango martini was given to me in place of a bellini and it was delicious. Even after all the other bars in the area start getting long lines ... can always count on this place. I like the music they play - not so much the djs... but had drinks with friends there and heard kind of like spitting, arcade fire and decemberists played softly through their speakers. It is more off to the side, away from the main bars...SOCO district. lol I have had the best Thursday nights here with my cousins and a few close friends! Good times and good memories! Anyway, i love the vibe and the atmosphere of this place. I love how dark and red it is in there! Reminds me of "fangtasia" (vampire bar frm one of the vampire series i have read) lol. It also reminds me of the First Cabin because of the tiny stage smashed up against the wall, the crowd is just younger, and the room is bigger! The Thursdays that I have gone, they played indie rock, 80's, dance hits, all the good stuff! The dance floor is a little small, but still fun! Waaaaaay cooler than detroit bar and free to boot. Plus their beer doesn't taste awful. old review: This is probably the hippest bar in downtown fullerton, but that really isn't saying much. Super loud, super dark, and just as expesive as the rest of downtown. But as they say, if you can't take the heat, head to the hallway behind the stage. That's where the cool kids are. This is a cool, unpretentious spot if you're looking to have some drinks, hang out, and maybe shake your thang a little. What's to love: the ambiance, the music (old school hip hop and some dance remixes the last time I went), the laid-back crowd, no cover charge...ever. And the things that make you go hmm: Why does it smell like a toilet in here?? Like in a sanitized with generic product public bathroom sort of way. Tucked behind Heroes in the SOCO District of Downtown Fullerton is the Continental Room. It's a little hard to spot since there are no signs, lit or otherwise. But the door with the bouncer let us know we were headed in the right direction. Small space, loud music and packed dance floor. It's a place to lounge and relax since it's a very chill environment. Getting drinks did not take long either. I was here for a friend's birthday and stayed in the smoking area the majority of the time which was pretty spacious. The best part? The dance floor wasn't too crowded so there was plenty if space for dancing, which was great! The drinks were nirmal priced, nothing special. I didnt particularly like the back smoke room because it was close to the bathrooms. Seemed a little sketchy. The contiental room is somewhat further from the other bars based on what I remembered.
