This place is in a great area, so you can go do stuff before and after coming here and everything is close. First off, this place smells amazing and gives off a nice vibe, and the cashiers and waiters are nice, and want you to have a nice experience. The food is amazing, and you can tell that it is fresh, not like a lot of people's fried chicken. That for me, is an important part in chicken. The waffle was amazing, and the syrup with it was mouthwatering. My family's food was also amazing, and yes I tried theirs. This was a late night snack type stop for me. By late night, it was 830 or 9 pm. By snack, I mean another meal that I did not need but my youngest was hungry. She likes spicy chicken so we thought it deserved a try. We ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs and and order of Nashville style tenders and waffles. We chose hot as the spice level. I am not a fan of fan of walking up for the counter, ordering, then taking a seat. It's just me., but this is a informal dining place. It's a comfortable and has a bar. We sat and enjoyed our teas. A few minutes later, the food arrived. We shred the plates as this was a new place for us. My daughter found the hot chicken to be too spicy, I thought it was ok. To compare, she will eat "hot" from wings stop. This was a tad bit more. Overall, good flavor, nice tenders. She loved the mac and cheese. The waffle was not bad, but that is more my daughter's thing. The ribs were good, not great. Run of the mill non bbq place ribs, sauced. I am in my mind a rib connoisseur, or at least I know what I like and what I make. So sometimes I am tough on ribs and I usually do not order them out, but my youngest wanted to try. Real potato fries will always win with me. There were great. As a side note, they do keep you glass full! So for me, chicken, Mac and cheese, fries a yes, ribs no. I would like to try other things in the menu though so there are future opportunities. I also would prefer a bone in fried chicken. We stopped in with our daughter and her family after church for lunch and we will definitely be back! I ordered the Sleazy Chicken and it was delicious! I ordered my chicken medium heat, which was perfect with the creamy Mac n cheese. I skipped the coleslaw but my husband said it was good as well. My son in-law had the taco at Texas Heat and it made his eyes water, but he said it was excellent. He had the wrap as well and also liked it. There's only one children's meal, but my grandson enjoy the chicken tenders and fries. Our food came out hot and fresh and the manager came around to check on us. I'm not a "hot chicken guru" so it could be the way it is, but I thought the chicken was a little over seasoned, almost powdery. The best Mac n cheese I've had however BE CAREFUL! When I was eating one of their strips I bit into a bone it cracked 2 of my teeth. When I called and spoke with one of the managers to inform them of the incident she said upper management would call me back. It's been a week and I haven't received a call. This bone could have easily been in a childs strip or it could have been ingested or in my case have to go in for emergency dental repair. If you have crowns be careful. I was enjoying their good food and did not expect to bite into a bone. I'm disappointed I never received a call I think it is import for a restaurant to be aware of incidents like this. This chicken and ribs chain now has a location in Spring near us. We stopped in the other night with friends to give them a try. We got ribs and chicken at heat levels medium and Texas Hot, dragon fries, mac and cheese, and sweet potato fries. Finished with Aunt Peggy's Ice Cream Sandwich. I washed mine down with a Cock-A-Doodle Brew, a beer brewed specifically for the Cookshack. I did some online research on the beer and couldn't find info. I believe it's a nice mild IPA. Complemented the food well. For chicken they serve tenders--very large tenderloins breaded and fried, spiced to your heat tolerance. They were above-average tenders--crisp batter and pretty tender on the inside. Not quite as tender as Cane's, but the spice options make it equivalent for me. The spice is a pepper sauce with a nice bite. I consider myself below-average on spice tolerance--I ordered medium and it was almost too spicy. They have options from no heat to AMF (not sure what that stands for). For AMF you have to sign a waiver. They really do bring the heat, if that's what you're looking for. They also spice the ribs if you want, though I don't think their barbecue sauce needs it. It is a very good Kansas City/Texas blend, sweet and complements the ribs very well. The ribs themselves are everything you could ask for--perfect tenderness, not baby food but the perfect bite. It is as good a place to get ribs as any commercial bbq place, a cut above Rudy's or Spring Creek but not quite up there with Tejas BBQ or Corkscrew. The sides were more mixed but on the whole good. The Dragon Fries are visually disappointing. They look like regular fries. If you eat some before you start on your spicy tenders you will note that they have some heat. The mac and cheese was pretty good--tastes like there's meat in it. The sweet potato fries were quite good. They are waffle fries, lightly battered so they have some crispness. The ice cream sandwich is cut four ways so it is shareable. The flavors are in the cookie--the ice cream is vanilla. A nice way to end the meal. The Cookshack is highly regarded and shows the virtue of limiting your menu. They do their thing really well. Service was good, not perfect but they absolutely are making an effort. The bathroom was clean and ready. The tables are somewhat close together and it was crowded when we went, so it was pretty noisy, but overall it was a fine experience and worth repeating. read more

Went here tonight (02/20/23) and it was our 1st time going here, i got the sleezy chicken with no coleslaw or pickles and medium heat and it was so good!! my only "complaint" is that it was personally hot enough for me but that's my own fault, i got medium heat to personally be safe but if you like the tiniest bit of spice, i totally recommend getting the medium, but if you want it to be way hotter, go up in spice levels! this also sorta depends on spice tolerance, i'm sure to some people the medium IS spicy, but it also kinda gets drowned out by the mac and cheese as well.
