The noise levels in this space are quite high, and it can be hard to hear yourself or others. The staff seemed slammed - it took 15 minutes to receive my latte, and we were waiting quite a while for food too. Our server seemed very distracted and overworked/spread thin. She cleared our entire table before taking our card to get us our receipt and on our way, which was a bit odd too. Unfortunately, our food was a meh experience too. The $8 latte was the smallest I've ever seen, in a teacup almost. I got the skillet, and the potatoes weren't crispy, the pork belly was overcooked and tough, and the flavors were all the same. This is a very cute place on eat street with a lot of great options. We went here for a friend's birthday dinner. We shared the bread basket and mozzarella sticks. I felt these were a unique twist on classic apps. I didn't love the bread basket personally but those I was with did. It was a chocolate rye bread and then I think a whole grain bread with horseradish butter, rosemary butter, and a sour cherry jam. The mozzarella sticks were 3 different types of cheese, 2 sticks each, and 3 different dips. For my entree I built my own flatbread with pepperoni and ricotta. It's very cozy yacht a little industrial with the exposed brick walls. I would be cautious about sitting next to a wall when it's extraordinarily cold. But otherwise you're fine. Very good Happy Hour spot. Atmosphere is always lively yet quaint. Bar seating for Happy Hour is spacious in the main dining room and not in the way of wait staff pathways. It's nice to be able to sit at the bar and not feel in the way or smothered by being in a direct pathway. I had a wonderful experience here for brunch. The service was great, and they were willing to split checks for 6 people which I really appreciated. The best thing about our experience at The Copper Hen was our server, Dominique. Everything else at this place is a question mark, so I'm going with three out of five stars to land squarely in the middle on the experience. I tried the brioche cinnamon roll and a side of the bread pudding French toast. To drink, I went with the bottomless mimosa...and let's start there. Here's my thing with a bottomless at most restaurants--I always feel like I am getting the shaft on the bubbly. The first mimosa hit the table and it had the distinct scent of "too much OJ." There was just a hint of prosecco or champagne (I'm not sure now which one was purportedly in each glass), but not nearly enough to get even a hint of a morning buzz with the first drink. As I was finishing the first glass, I wanted to signal that I wanted a pour with something even sort of resembling actual prosecco in the glass...but Dominique swooped in with another round of the mimosa. On the one hand, love the service...a person who orders a bottomless should never have an empty glass. On the other hand, I wasn't looking to have four glasses of orange juice this weekend without any bubbly. So, I sat there in silence, drinking glasses of mostly orange juice, cursing to myself. The meal was fine. The single slice of French toast that came out initially looked like it would be too light to be called a meal, but two bites into it, the density of the slice really kicked in. It was tasty, but nothing I would order again. The cinnamon roll was also tasty but it didn't have enough frosting for my tastes--this is ironic, because I asked if the roll would have enough custard and I was assured that it would--so we left half of the roll on the plate because we ran out of frosting, leaving a mostly dry, dense roll to sit by itself. My 11-year-old got the pretzel and a side of eggs, and seemed to enjoy themselves. My other family member got a veggie omelette and had mostly good things to say about it. We all agreed that the breakfast potatoes were the best thing we ate at the meal. I didn't mind the rustic feel of this place, and again, service was great. But I'm sure there are better brunch spots in Minneapolis and I am excited to try those on future trips. read more

Ooooh. I LIKE it here. They absolutely nail the rustic chic aestetic. Picture the most Instagrammable farmhouse wedding ever--that's what it looks like. Lots of wood and stone, beautiful, warm lights, a neat dried hydrangea chandelier, and touches of vintage ephemera came together to make an extremely welcoming and comfortable space. Add in some great tunes and awesome service, and I am already sold. There's a parking lot right across the street, which makes parking easy as pie, too. The menu here is impressive. With a wide range of dishes for palates and preferences of every kind, you're sure to find something that pleases. Massive praise for the vast selection of vegetarian friendly options and the zero-proof beverage menu. Adore. While I was strongly tempted by the mocktails, I ultimately landed on the lemonade. I'm not sure if this is a new TC beverage trend or I've just gotten lucky lately, but I have seen creative lemonades appearing on menus, and I have never been disappointed. The Copper Hen has a handful of flavor options, and thanks to their complimentary refill on lemonade, I got to try two flavors--lavender and rosemary. (They're both really good, and they're very pretty.) We ordered some shareables to start, including the ratatouille and the sweet potato pierogies. They were both SO GOOD. The pierogies are fried and come served with a tasty creamy sauce and browned butter. It was pure comfort on a gray and rainy day. They were chewy and just the right blendu of sweet and savory, with a healthy dose of nuttiness thanks to the browned butter and Parmesan. Yum. The ratatouille had a beautiful presentation and was bright in both color and flavor--the squash and eggplant held their shape, and the tomato sauce had the lovely bite of garlic and pepper. The cheese on top added flavor and texture contrast and was a really pleasant addition. (I absolutely recommend them both.) For my entree, I had the loveliest Parmesan tortellini: served in a spicy vodka sauce, it was cooked to a perfect al dente. Topped with basil and Parmesan, this dish is sure to please anyone who's a fan of pasta. The presentation and flavors were just flawless. As you'd expect from a place that has "cakery" in its name, The Copper Hen does dessert, and they do it well. With a huge selection of cupcakes and mason jar cakes always on offer, it also features seasonal takes on several classic desserts, including the two that we went with: the hand pie and the crème brûlée. The hand pie is available warmed and with ice cream (highly recommend), and this evening, was berry. It was just want you want in a pie--sweet and flaky and made with love. The brûlée was maple and came with candied pecans. It was really, really good: there was exactly the right amount of brûlée, the pecans added additional crunch, and the combination of flavors made for the perfect amount of sweetness. The Copper Hen would be a great place for dinner with friends, family, or a date. It's very conducive to conversation, and it's a really comfortable space to be in. Once we were seated, our server was fantastic. The restaurant was really loud, though, it was kind of difficult to hear each other. I went here for Mother's Day brunch. The food was barely mediocre. The best item I ate was the strawberry pecan spinach salad, a couple of the desserts were good. None of the hot dishes were good. The pancakes were all stuck together, so they tore when your tried to grab one, the French toast did the same thing. I chose this of the many breakfast options in Minneapolis because I was desperate for hollandaise sauce, which is naturally gluten-free but not gluten-free in many restaurants because the commercialy produced kind uses wheat as a thickener. I ended up getting the pork belly skillet because it had everything I wanted (though i considered subbing poached eggs, which i love). My dining companion got the copper benedict, which was beautiful and delicious. My hollandaise was flavored with bacon, which made it quite salty. Somewhat ironically, my dining companion thought her sauce was bland, while mine was just right for her. This is a reflection of our preferences, not the quality of the sauces, which were both excellent. We just got regular coffee even though they sell a lot of delicious-looking coffee beverages such as lattes. The plain coffee was very good Our server, Dominique, was lovely and kind.
