Jammed, dark, old decor, packed with tables, little room to move with bar food and hotdogs - ones I saw were light pinkish white boiled in basic buns. I didn't eat, I'm vegetarian. I have been a customer of the Corner Bar for over 20yrs - it has been one of my favorite places for Hot Dogs - their Chili Dog was the best !! That was then and now after the remodel from the fire who ever took over never understood what made them great was that it was placed in a wax paper wrapping that kind of steamed the bun - also WHY would you change the Chili recipe it was the best and what I had tonight was plain awful - Thanks Corner Bar you took something so simple and good and ruined it! read more

they are famous for their hotdogs, I don't really know why, they aren't all that great. the girlfriend and i go there and each get a chilli cheese dog basket and it usually comes to around $30 for hot dogs and fries :/ Not a huge fan of their chilli sauce either, that could use some work. It used to be a great neighborhood restaurant and pub but the service has been steadily heading downhill and the food isn't good enough to overcome that. Not a fan. It's a Rockford mainstay but has been slipping in the food and service area for the last few years. It's gotten to the point that my husband now calls it the "Chum Bucket," for those Sponge Bob fans...if we are going to eat bar food we'll go to the Rogue River over the CB every time. read more

After the recent remodel, it's just not the same and it makes me incredibly sad to say that. The decor is awful - way too modern, the tables and the bar are too small and there's not enough seating. We've always waited a minimum of 30 minutes to be seated, even during the day on a weekday because of the limited seating. The decor and the set up is cramped and it's so loud that it's extremely hard to talk to the people you're with. The redeeming factor is that the kitchen is very fast and the food is still good... although the hot dogs just aren't anything special anymore, they taste different now. We've tried ordering from the window a few times which takes longer than it used to but is easier than waiting for a seat in the restaurant. We keep coming back because of the nostalgia, the Corner Bar has been a Rockford staple for ages. But that's the only thing that keeps bringing us back. Honestly the rogue river tavern is a better choice these days. Hopefully they fix the issue with the noise and the seating, it would drastically improve the experience. read more

Went to the Corner Bar last night for chili dogs which are usually the best. The dogs were terrible!!! There was barely a teaspoon of chili on the dogs with extremely light toppings + missing cheese. Seriously! How can you get a chili dog order wrong? Our service was extremely slow. Our server walked by our table three times before stopping to take our drink order. The restaurant was busy but not too busy that the servers had time to walk the room. This experience was so poor that we don't plan to return anytime soon. Our next chili dog excursion will likely be to Mad Dogz in Comstock Park or Johnny B's on Wealthy. read more

Not impressed at all. Food was cold. How can 8 people order 2 hot dogs each with chili sauce and it come out cold like it wasn't even warm in the first place. This used to be my favorite restaurant. We went there 8/23/2019 and I ordered the same thing I've had for probably 30 years 2 chili dogs with everything except pickles. The service was just ok. When the food arrived they changed my order to a chili dog basket so it had fries and coleslaw neither of which I wanted, but ok whatever. Let's start with the chili dogs, they added cheese which I didn't ask for, and it tasted like and looked like ground up crayons. Maybe a table spoon of chili, and lots of ketchup. The worst part was the mold on my hot dog bun. I mentioned it to the waitress who got a, I'm assuming manager, who said "oops I'll bring you a new one," and except for being free of mold it tasted no better. The fries, that I didn't want anyway, were tasteless and not crisp. The coleslaw, that I also didn't want was 100% tasteless it had no flavor at all. I don't think I will be returning to the Corner Bar, which is a damn shame because of the tons of memories I have had in and around here. read more

First visit here. Great atmosphere and spectacular service. The only reasons I gave it 4 stars are because they only had one (real) cider on tap/in the bottle and it was a really tart, dry selection and because I felt that $9.50 was a little steep for the three puny though admittedly yummy chicken strips. read more

Oh Corner Bar. Reading reviews and seeing the amount of folks that try (and complete) the dog challenge on Facebook, I thought it was going to be a slam dunk choice. First visit was only for drinks. Walked in around 6pm to a full dining room and damn near full bar, but was fortunate enough to get two seat at the bar. The barkeep quickly approached to take our order and didn't mind when we asked for a sec to review the drink menu. They offer a SOLID beer menu, was even able to order a few MI brews I hadn't yet tried. The good being served to others customers looked and smelled awesome, but having already had dinner there wasn't going to be any hotdog eating that visit. If my visit after the one visit it would've been 4 or 5 stars for an awesome experience from a beer (and food appearance) and service. The second visit was on a much quieter night. Same bartender, same awesome service. Bad news was the dogs. The thing that allegedly makes The Corner Bar was a huge let down. They were just okay. The dogs didn't have much taste, the buns seemed to big, and the chili sauce was just bland. One positive, the onion rings were damn good. Understanding the dogs and batch of chili sauce may have been bogus on that night, I'm willing to try them again. 5 stars for atmosphere and derive. 2 stars for the dog let down. read more

Stopped by last weekend for the first time since I was a kid, which was always some place we looked forward to visiting. I am happy to report it is still awesome! Great service, the best dogs, and onion rings too! Plus we got to see my dad's name on the wall from the 70's, and hear the story about how he "could have kept going if your mom didn't make me stop" ha! read more

Great restaurant with great food. Ate here last Friday night and place was packed. We were able to get a table fairly fast. The only reason I give 3 stars because our waitress wasn't very friendly and didn't come back to the table through the meal but once and that was to bring the food and their were six of us. Didn't see her again till we had to track her down for our check. read more

Grew up in Rockford, so I've been to the CB a lot over the years. Stopped in today after a several year hiatus for a couple of coney dogs, and I was less than enthused. The buns have changed, and not for the better. CB dogs have always been skinny, and a lot easier to eat. It's what set them apart. Not sure when they changed, but the buns are larger and fluffier, making the dog harder to eat and overwhelming the other elements. It's a different product, and although the dog was ok, it wasn't great. read more

I have been coming to the corner bar as long as I know and I always have a great experience here! In my opinion, their hotdogs are the best I know! I feel like ever since this place burned down, it's gotten kind of hectic and always being worked on somewhere. It is very loud now that the ceilings are opened up. It was so sad to see this place burn down but I love it still! It is so amazing to see all of the names on the plaques that are hanging on the walls of the people who had 12 or more hotdogs in 3 hours. I think it is a unique competition, and some day I would like to see someone do it! If you ever go through Rockford, stop here, it's the best!!! read more

I want to like this place, but the food has been hit or miss. I have been to The Corner Bar on many occasions, and have had the full spectrum from terrible to good. Fun atmosphere, with plaques on the wall showing names and hometowns of everyone that has eaten at least 12 hot dogs in one sitting. Typical bar type food, with a emphasis on hot dogs. Hot dogs are average, and remind me of a dog you would get at the ballpark. They need to be upgraded to a more premium hot dog. Last visit I had a southwest style grilled chicken salad which was very good. Food was fresh, and service was good. I can't say that for every visit, but maybe they have made some improvements in the kitchen. If you are not from the area, I still recommend this as a stop if you visit Rockford. A good way to see the local flare, and a great location to walk around downtown Rockford. read more

We were in town for the olive oil bar across the street and stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. Service was great! Hot dogs were average. I wanted one hot dog with a bunch of weird stuff on it, they didn't blink (to their credit). Hubs had the chili dogs and, while they were acceptable, he said he wouldn't make a special trip for them. Overall average joint, we would come back if we are at the olive oil bar again at lunchtime. read more

Great place for standard american dining. I tried the hot dog challenge... got up to 6 and had to stop... don't think i could hit 12 even when I was 18. Great food, service was good. It took a bit longer than i would expect to prep a hotdog, averaged 8 min on hot dog delivery... what are they doing back there? A hot dog dance? No matter, great place to bring a family... and if you are hungry enough for 12 dogs then you eat free! read more
