Always busy, always friendly, and the food is great too. Most authentic Steak and Cheese in the area, and the Keating Salad is my favorite. Their soups are by and large really good - the pasta and beans is very hearty, and whenever they have french onion we order it. The standout is their clam chowder which seems to have very fresh clams. They've got a page on myspace where they post their daily specials so check there. If you're in a hurry, call ahead - otherwise just go, stand on line and place your order, then case the 5000 kinds of chips they have while you wait for them to call your name to check out. They're surprisingly quick turning out the food. Only drawback is that there is minimal seating and it's all bar-style seating. I always get my lunch to go, so that's not an issue for me. This place is the perfect lunch spot. Not many places to sit, just a small counter with some stools so definitely a to-go restaurant. The staff is always friendly and they move really quickly to get you in and out as fast as possible. The menu is pretty large, both salads and sandwiches, and they usually have a decent amount of specials too. My personal favorite is the Keating (both salad and wrap.) Had a grilled chicken salad from here a few days ago. The salad itself wasn't bad but the chicken was dry as a bone and had no flavor whatsoever. I used to eat here a lot when the previous owners were still running things, but it seems like lately the quality has gone downhill a bit. Bottom line is that the food is just mediocre and its a bit expensive for what you actually get. Too many other quality lunch spots around to have to settle for this place. read more

As other reviewers have noted, call ahead during lunch. That's my best advice. It's by the center of town so it gets busy with municipal workers, etc. The quality of the ingredients is really good- excellent chicken, Boars Head products, etc. I generally get a salad or a Cali Chick sandwich. You really can't go wrong with any of the choices. Try one if the daily specials- they are posted on FB every day....The service is pretty quick and friendly. Have had good sandwiches here before but extremely disappointed with my bacon and egg sandwich this morning. Very tasty sandwiches, and among the closest things to my Philly hoagies! I have had the turkey sub and a delightful chicken cutlet sandwich with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto and pesto mayo. My favorite deli in Hamden. Personal favorites are buffalo chicken sub, the cali chicken and the Chris. My only problem is that it takes a bit longer for them to make a sandwich (15 minutes) but I usually call ahead to place an order so that's its ready to pick up when I arrive. Though I'm willing to wait the extra time for a great sandwich/sub. read more

Walked in yesterday and ordered a chicken parm sub, it was fairly busy and I didn't call ahead but I waited for less than 10 mins. The staff was quick and friendly, and my sub was great! I overheard my coworker ordering a "Keating Wrap" and got one myself for lunch today. I'm not sure if that is the correct spelling. It is a very nice wrap & I'd give it 5 stars. The green-color spinach wrap is stuffed with quality grilled chicken, mixed greens, balsamic, bule cheese, and a couple orange-color & red-color fruity things. The taste to my palet was yummy & healthy. I'll certainly order it again. read more

Corner Deli has taken a sharp turn for the worse. Turns out the founders sold out and moved South. Although menu and very high prices remain exactly the same, the food has not. The salads, wraps and dressings are just not the same, and after 4 trips post-sale to try the new owners food, I am done. What a shame. Was my favorite lunch spot for 2-3 visits a week, for last 7-10+ years(since opening)? Quality and flavors were worth the extra cost, but not anymore. Every single person I have talked to has had similar experiences. Crowds have totally disappeared, so negative experiences must be common. One positive is that apparently the hot/grill food is still good(must have same staff at grill?) I think a call to Mike & Lynn for some recipes and food prep training is necessary to save this business. read more

First off, I'm going to start this post off by saying that the food at Corner Deli is of very high quality. Definitely one of the better chicken cutlets I have had the privilege of putting my taste buds upon. However, the service at this disgraceful place is unlike anything I have ever seen before. It was a Thursday night and I was on my way home from work when I placed an order for pick up for myself and my family. When I finally got out of traffic due to a nearby accident, I arrived to Corner Deli at 7:02 when they close at 7. They young woman proceeded to tell me that she would not sell me my food and that the men in the back were going to eat it. She said this rudely and directly to my face. The fact that a restaurant would treat one of their customers this way and want to LOSE MONEY on an order still baffles me. Stay away from this establishment, you can get that chicken cutlet somewhere else, my friend. read more

I just did my first review on a bad excuse for a deli so it makes sense to review what I compare all other delis to. I lived in CT for 4.5 years and I'm angry that I didn't discover this until after a year of living there. I thought for a long time it was a really sketchy place because there were always police/ambulance/state trooper/campus safety/fire trucks parked nearby. Turns out, they all knew where to go for an awesome lunch! It is good for a basic meat/cheese sub (like my husband gets) or a more special ingredient sandwich.... Oh how I miss the Cali Chick sandwich with grilled chicken, pesto mayo, red peppers and fresh (!) slices of avocado. And huge portions too, that I could eat half for one lunch and save it for the next day. One tiny negative is how popular it is and how busy it gets during peak hours. Consider Friday lunch time when all the college kids use it for hangover cures and everyone else wants to start the weekend early. Amazing and WORTH IT. read more

I give this a 5 star as the prices are reasonable, the place is clean and the quality of the food is superior. If I had just one thing to improve on that would increase the amounts of my visits would be to get spinach for the sandwiches. Iceburg lettuce just doesn't cut it for me or my girlfriend. My score is based on the customer service because the bread makes a sandwich and the bread was amazing. However, customer service determines if i will come back to the business. After observing how this business was managed, i will not be returning. At the register there is a sign that reads something on the line of: we will be happy to assist you after you get off your phone. This should apply to the employees of this deli. I had to wait for the cashier to finish texting and was not even acknowledged even though i was standing one foot in front of him. I guess who he was texting must have been really important that he couldn't pause to help his customer. Second, none of the drinks or chips are priced. When i inquired about the price i was given attitude. The employees were not knowledgeable about their product, or prices on top of everything being over priced! It took several minutes to receive an answer for the price of a soda and it was given rudely. Lastly, i was overcharged almost a dollar for my sandwich. I brought up the fact that i was over charged (going by the price listed on the huge menu on the wall) & was told that the price he was charging me was correct. If you are going to raise your prices, you need to change the prices posted also. If you are looking to get ripped off i would recommend this place. It's a shame too since the sandwich was pretty good. Had the staff been friendly, and this establishment seem honest i would make this a weekly stop for lunch and given 5 star. read more
