Came here with a group of 6 on a Sunday for lunch. First time at their Encinitas location after loving the La Jolla location for a long time. Food items are the same and we asked if they would do a split benedict since they did at the La Jolla and they were able to so that was nice. Was more of a fan of the Pork Belly Benedict over the La Jolla Benedict. The Morning Glory Sandwich was ok; nothing crazy but definitely good amount of food. Coffee cake was awesome and make sure you have the jam with it. Was seated right away despite a pretty busy lunchtime. Service was solid but they took a bit to replace our bottles of water towards the end. Inside was nice and bright. Got seated towards the back so didn't have a nice view of the restaurant though. Overall, solid brunch spot and would come back again for the Pork Belly Benedict and try more items on the menu! read more

Joe's review metrics: I do not care about the decor or ambiance or 'vibes' in my review. And unless the server directly impacts my meal itself, I do not care about reviewing service. This is purely about the food. 5: Incredible, virtually no notes, worth every penny and the wait, definitely come back 4: Great food, would wait for a bit to get in 3: Good food, about average fare 2: Fine, acceptable and edible, nothing to go out of your way for, would not wait 1: Just no, tastes bad, will not be coming back For drinks, had the Bees Knees and the Brown Magic, both of which are espresso-based and they were served in martini glasses. So not a whole lot of liquid for the price but the taste was fantastic. The Brown Magic was frothy and sweet, and the Bees Knees was light with a nice kick of cardamom, not too much to overpower it though. To eat, we had the Pork Belly Benedict and the Braised Beef Hash. The pork belly was cooked very well, as was the poached egg. Flavor-wise though, they seemed to rely entirely on the pork to sell the dish. There was no seasoning at all on the main dish, save for some sea salt. No spice to be seen, not even pepper. The hollandaise was unremarkable and the bread it came on was so soggy it did nothing to support the small amount of meat, egg, sauce, and sautéed spinach on top. The potato's were cooked well, but again, no spices. I asked and received some house made hot sauce which was mostly just chipotle pepper. Smoky but not hot at all. As for the braised beef, the meat was cooked well and most of the vegetables, however the asparagus seemed to just have been flash grilled to brown them. No spears to be seen, just very fibrous stalks. And again, little to no spice throughout the dish; the flavor of the meat was the most flavor throughout. The saving grace of this plate, and what stood out as the best part of this brunch, was their scone and homemade jam. Perfectly done, not too soft, crumbled the right amount to get some jam on it and pop into our mouths. We even asked if they sold the jam; they do not, sadly. The men's room had 1 ADA-accessible stall, 1 urinal, 2 sinks, 1 baby changing station. Joe's Score: 3 overall. If I were to base solely on the entrees, I would score 2. But if you just want some of the bakery items and coffee, this is a 3.5-4 easily. read more

The Cottage has really good food and coffee drinks, whether you go for breakfast or lunch. My favorite is the Milanese sandwich, which is always cooked perfectly and has a nice crisp to it. Three of us came for lunch around 1PM on a Sunday and there was plenty of seating both outside and inside. We chose to sit inside for a cooler temp setting and sat in the booth. The staff was very attentive and gave an awesome run down of the expansive brunch/lunch menu. We went with a Braised Beef Hash, California Omelette, and a Veggie Frittata. This cute little cottage café is perfect for breakfast brunch or lunch. We had a little bit of both . I started off with a delicious watermelon Mojito made with Soju. " very refreshing" They actually offer four or five different cocktails made with Soju . We had a very robust plate of scrambled eggs with grilled mushrooms and sausage, potatoes and a shortbread scone with fresh strawberry jam. I had a grilled sourdough tuna melt . With fresh fruit on the side . Everything was so yummy. They have House made granola which I just had to purchase . Our waitress was just the sweetest ever I believe she also made my cocktail and muddled in the fresh mint into my Mojito. She really knows her stuff . This particular location is located in a strip mall, but when you are inside, you really do not feel this way. It's a large restaurant with plenty of great seating on the inside as well as the outside. We chose to be on the inside away from traffic.. I used to go to The Cottage in La Jolla when I lived in UTC and would stop there for brunch after surfing, way back when. So I was really excited to see one open in Encinitas, now that I'm in Carlsbad. It's in the same plaza as the french pastry place and with ample outdoor seating, which was perfect since it was so nice out. I got the pork belly eggs benedict with gluten-free bread with some matcha latte. The eggs benedict was good, but it felt like something was missing. The matcha latte was ok, it didn't taste too much like anything. My husband got an omelet and he liked his, but again, he said it didn't blow him away or anything. I'm glad we tried it and maybe we just need to go back and order stuffed french toast or all the sweeter stuff instead of the savory brunch stuff, but I've always had consistently amazing food at The Cottage in La Jolla, so I was kind of hoping for the same experience here. read more

3 stars because I'm uncertain. I'm not sure if I did not get the full experience because I ordered takeout, but I was not very pleased with my order. I had the crab and prosciutto Benedict, which I was excited about, but the meal had difficulty coming together for me. I found the crab and prosciutto mixture to be extremely salty, and the bread to be hard to swallow. Though I did not have the Chilaquiles, both my sister and I considered the potatoes to be overcooked and dry. If we ever return, I do hope to try some of the other more sweet options. read more

The Cottage in La Jolla is always busy, so I was excited to check out their new location in Encinitas. I came here on a Saturday morning, and it was relatively quiet so we were seated immediately. We ordered the La Jolla Benedict and the Smoked Salmon Hash, as well as a cappuccino on the side. The cappuccino was OK; not the best I've ever had. But really, you're here for the food -- and we loved it! The portions were generous, and I thought the smoked salmon hash was unique. I also enjoyed the jam and the scone that came on the side. They also came by with three different options for hot sauce that I'd never seen before, so I'll give them points for that too. I recommend coming by if you're looking for a nice spot for breakfast and brunch! The interior is cozy, but they also have outdoor seating. My friend and I stopped in for an iced matcha while we shopped. Unfortunately, the matcha missed the mark for me. The menu claimed it was imported from Japan, but it was a muted green color and not the vibrant green of authentic matcha. It more so tasted like matcha flavored oat milk, neither of us finished it. Our experience here started off good. The staff was friendly and we got seated promptly on their lovely patio but then things took a turn for the worse. First of all, my water had a bug in it. I asked for a new one and the new one had mysterious crumbs at the bottom. I just gave up with the water at that point. Our server was nice but took forever to take our order and then took another eternity to get my drink and our food out. We ordered the avocado smash toast with salmon ($17) theres was no flavor and it desperately needed hot sauce. Definitely not worth $17. We also got the stuffed french toast and that was awful. Super soggy and berries were old and mushy. I would not recommend this. Once again over priced for $18.50. I got the lavender blackberry lemonade and that was good but not worth $9. Overall, this place has a lot of potential but our time and money here were completely wasted today. I suggest skipping this spot. read more

Have been wanting to check out the Cottage (in Encinitas) since they opened; def a convenience to have in north county without having to go down to La Jolla to their other location. My parents were visiting for Boston and we went for brunch on a Sunday around 1:00. There was no wait, probably given the time of day, so that was a great start to a very enjoyable meal. A round of breakfast cocktails got things going and while everything on the menu looked appealing we all landed on something pretty quickly. My mother had to brioche French toast and chose to top it with a bourbon pecan topping. It was a hearty portion and even though she said she could have eaten the whole thing she opted to take some home to enjoy later. My father went with a southwestern scramble plate, which was pretty straightforward. I chose the breakfast sandwich but swapped the smoked Gouda cheese for cheddar. The staff was excellent. The space was clean and inviting. And the food was great! Will def be back! read more

I ordered the leg of lamb sandwich today. To say it was horrible would be understatement. There were three things that made this sandwich such a colossal disappointment. There was barely any meat on it at all. Each piece was shaved "potato chip" thin and didn't even cover half of the sandwich. The meat itself was well done.... Something that should never be done to leg of lamb. The final issue is the price. I actually paid $20 for this disaster once you factor in the tax. The rumors are true, this place does have one of the best brunches in San Diego. This location is so much better than the La Jolla location. Lines are much shorter, much easier to get into. Came here for brunch one weekend around 11, the whole place was already pretty full, but we were still able to get a table right away. The interior is done in the style of California modern. Combination of white and blue plus some surf themed items. Order some pancakes and the egg benedicts to share. They do allow you to mix and match but, the prices for single ones, on the highest priced denomination. We did not know that going in found out only after we got the bill. The pancakes were not that great. Probably would never order those again. The walnut maple one was like a dessert, but a little too sweet for my taste the eggs Benny's were very very good, I would definitely order that again. Overall pleasant experience. Upon finding out about The Cottage's new Encinitas location, it was only a matter of time where this place was penciled in for the next Sunday Brunch opportunity. It's been a while since my last visit at the LA Jolla location and never again will I go so long without having The Cottage. Breakfast/brunch is my favorite meal of the day and this place just screams BRUNCH and the food and drinks will surely satisfy those tastebuds in an environment that's very inviting. For the three times I've been here (within a month span) each experience was as delightful as the previous. Fresh, delectable food and fresh tasting mimosas flowing nicely throughout the meals. The Omelettes and Hash dishes are a dream. Fluffy eggs and no skimping on delicious filling. The Southern California Omelette has that traditional flavor where the Wild Caught Shrimp Omelette is a bit more unique. Slight spice with subtlyb savory shrimp. The Smoked Salmon Hash is a medley and goodness in a skillet and the Crab Melt is pure culinary bliss. The breakfast potatoes and fries are really scrumptious. The fries have a crispy batter so no soggy fries here. Each dish comes with a scone and berry jam which is a fine way to close out your meal...if you have room. Speaking of room, if you love cinnamon rolls theirs is house-made and is delightful. This location is in a large plaza so finding parking wouldn't be too difficult. Lived in c'bad for 14years now. Back here for the 7th time today. Always look forward to eating here. There are very very few restaurants that are consistently amazing in San Diego, and this is definitely one of them. Had mimosa, Bloody Mary ( both our go to drinks but man their coffees and non alcoholic 'specialty' drinks are so good. Fresh and unique). Mimosa was refreshing as always with fresh oj and a nice bubbly champagne. The Bloody Mary is huge, flavorful and almost a meal in itself as it's served with olives, celery, lemon. We got the tuna melt and back to the crab cake sandwich again. I'm telling you, Consistent! Food you can count on to be fresh, w quality ingredients, unique sauces and very crunchy fries! The portion ends up being big enough to take 1/2 sandwich home too. Loved the tuna melt with soo much tuna, an abundant amount of fresh cheese and arugula-what a combo!!! Went here on 9/25/22 around 12:30pm. Barely s wait for 2 but we had 7 people in our group and the host saved us a table and waited for all members of our party to arrive. He was so patient with us since we had poor communication. I've only gone to the La Jolla location, but this location is closer to my house! Loved the fact that you can actually find parking since it shares parking with all the other stores in the strip mall. I ordered the Antojito benedict and asked for no beans and to make my eggs scrambled. The waitress said it was a great choice and we both were right! It was delicious and a lot. I could only eat half. I ordered a Watermelon mimosa and it was very tasty. I wish I ordered 2. My friends ordered their dishes but I don't know the name of them but everyone enjoyed their food except one. The pork belly was super over done and dry but the waitress bright out new meat for her. Because we waited "long", the waited brought is coffee cake with a strawberry jam which was very tasty. Didn't even know strawberry jam went with coffee cake, but they are on to something. We stayed to closing and I loved that I gotto people watch in the beginning because dogs are allowed & they are very dog friendly. They bring out a bowl of water, & no one seems resentful to do so. Now that I now that, I might bring my dog to enjoy brunch. All in all, I'd come here again. read more

We are new to the area, and were headed to Swami's (which we found just closed for good), when we met a nice guy with coffee cake samples and a coupon for the Cottage nearby (very industrious and effective!) The place is cute, clean and the service is great! The food is really good (without being too foodie (we are boomers), so we went back with our daughter's family for my birthday. We split the Lemon Ricotta pancakes and Crab and Prosciutto Benedict. Both very tasty although we did have to ask for a sharper knife to cut the bread from the Benedict. To drink I had a Spiced Lavender Mocha, loved it. Service was perfect. There is indoor and outdoor seating. In fact, the indoor seating is quite spacious. I would definitely recommend. read more

This location within the shopping center with The Gap, Trader Joe's and Ralph's has ample parking. The food is classic breakfast fare showcasing their pancakes, french toast and the lovely scones. On a rainy / cloudy day, why not drive up to Encinitas for some good food & drinks. They have a second location in La Jolla, but I heard good things about it. When I heard they had one in Encinitas & I was up here anyways. It's located in a shopping center by a New Balance store ( buying some new kicks after ). I walked in the restaurant & it has a very cute atmosphere, customer service is 100% on point, they have all types of drinks ( coffee to alcohol ). I was stoked they had Local Roots ( my favorite ), I was starving like a bear & I tried out their crab cake Melt ( Wow ). If you live in the area or looking for a good brunch place.
